the church where the man and this family attended services. does this tend to politicize the issue to a level where things get out of hand? i think ultimately we get so caught up with personality that we don't focus on policy. we get so much on the idealogical that we look past good ideas. i think we have an uncivil discourse in our society. we get caught up on individuals that we done focus on the issues. there are too many black men who are being murdered by cops. that's not to suggest that all cops are bad. we don't ian need to waste time on that. you can't stha we don't have a problem that needs to be addressed. >> i want to talk about the

book. a special book indeed. this is a very special reflection about the years you spent with her and the years you shared between the two of you. >> i was 21 years old when i met her. i was a young aid. got a chance to meet her briefly when i was just a kid working for him and decided that her presence was so powerful. pregnant with such passion that i wanted to make sure that i got to spend more time with her. i had no idea that something would happen that would give me an opportunity to go africa with her at her invitation and i got a chance to carry her bags. in that two week period, although there was a huge gap between her intellect and mine, her experience and my experience, a huge gap in our ages, a huge gap in our world view, it means something that a young black man has someone in

committee is set to debate a bill that would call for congress to have a say on the new bill between the u.s. and iran. many are concerned that it could paef pave the way for islam to build a nuclear weapon. >> con dwress jest wants an outline of two big problems that they have. they still don't trust the iranianss and they don't think that the white house has the authority to negotiate with tehran on their own. so there's a bill by bob corker and bob menendez that would halt any agreement while the senate decides if they like it or not. it can't have so much support that the president could not veto away their power play. >> very, very close to where we could have 67 votes to override something along these lines. and whether or not we get over the 67 vote threshold is going to depend on details that we

>> one of the arguments is that all right he did it. it was terrible. we shil give him life in prison because it was the brother who made him do it. he just went along with it. is that something that resonates with juries and the number of lives that have been changed by the bombing? >> it shouldn't but this is massachusetts. i think the prosecution has a big mountain to climb. remember, if one juror out of the 12 says no death, then he lives. the defense needs one juror to agree he shouldn't be executed and he lives. >> do they have a long time to debate? how long do they get to debate if he lives or dies? >> as long as they want. if they can't agree, then it's life without patrol. they must all 12 agree on the

facelift. who had been managing the alamo since 1905 were fired by the texas land office. this happened after evidence that the alamo had been in desperate need of repairs and that money wasn't being used properly to care for the site. water leaks have added to cracks and rotting beams. this making for a texas sized battle that propel the legend of davy crockett, and more. welcome, great to have you here today. >> i think so many folks around the country would be surprised to know that this famed symbol has gone for decades without major repairs that have been needed to preserve the site. why has it taken so long to do something about this? >> well, we have actually recently done some significant

repairs. the roof of the alamo that was in need of a lot of help has been repaired as well as the roof of the other area. so we have been addressing some of those needs over the last few years since the general land office took over oversight in 201 20111. >> isn't it true that you have had had problems with water leaks after years and years of neglect? >> well, it's an old building and we have taken a look at that and of course been watching that since we have had oversight and have been working on all of those issues. it's a 300 year old building and it's limestone. we're in the middle of finishing up studies on conservation and preservation to help us prioritize and help us work on other things that we see in need of repair restoration and other types of really strong powerful conservation efforts as well as

preservation that needs to be done. it's actually an exciting time for us to go back in and use current technology to be able to help us find what really needs to be done, prioritize that and put some resources into that to be sure that the alamo is here 300 years from now. >> absolutely and beyond. i know you really can't comment on the daughters of the republic of texas organization due to a lawsuit that has been filed but since it was clear that repairs have been needed for some time, the repairs that you speak of about the roof have taken place. what's the biggest problem that needs to be addressed first? >> on the prerz vags what we are seeing is the need to address rising damp. that is the area around the base gets wet when it is there. there are different technologyies that are available now.

others that are helping us to discover the best process and way to stop that from happening as much. we will begin soops we understand it and we will begin working on that. >> the land commission decided to make the change with the daughters of the republic of texas, they are the ones who made the move to not renew the contract and the daughters put out this statement. for months the daughters of the republic of texas attempted in good faith over the ownership and management of the library collection. the recent actions of the state which occurred suddenly and without opportunity for meaningful dialogue left no opportunity but to file the lawsuit. going forward i know that san antonio the city of san antonio is going to put up about a million dollars to get necessary funding to move ahead?

>> yes. we announced yesterday that we're going to be working with the state of san antonio in a master planning process. there has been a revival of downtown san portion of the alamo plaza, so we'll be working together with the city to be sure that we can restore the area. what happens when you come into downtown san antonio, it's -- the alamo is in the center, in the heart of san antonio, and sometimes a little hard to find, but also a little broken up with streets and different types of things. we want to revision how we can make that area a little more sacred and really stand for the things that we've been hearing from our xhintcommunity and texans that they want to see around the shrine of texas liberty. we need the city's help and the work of our key stakeholders order to make that happen and do

it right. the last time this has been visioned from the city's perspective has been 1994, so the commissioner has made the alamo a priority for him. it only makes sense in our planning process to work with the city so we're working side by side, and not two parallel different plans. it's exciting, though, to be able to see there's this ability to do it, that there are resources. our needs are significant. we want to develop a museum and visitors center that's worthy of the alamo and its story. >> absolutely. it's a one of the site. >> we can't wait to see what will come out that. >> and something that's truly appreciates to texas. thank you so much for joining with us and sharing us the good news about the future of the alamo alamo. thank you. come see us soon. a second suspect has been arrested in connection to a terror plot in a u.s. military base here in america. the details are in the next hour of america's news headquarters.
