2:00 pm
dn't you rather have the money in your pocket when you land and spend it on a nice meal, neil? >> by the way, if they stick you in the bin, there's no room for your luggage. thank you for coming on and addressing this. see you at 8:00 p.m. hello, i'm kimberlily guilfoyle along with greg gutfeld and dan na perino and eric bolling and this is "the five" at 5:00. hillary clinton is in new hampshire on her announcement tour. her campaign is only one week old but there's already trouble for her candidacy. a new book is coming out with bombshells about donations made called clinton cash. "the new york times" got an advanced copy seas theand says the book alleges they got favors in return from secretary clinton's state department.
2:01 pm
fox news will have a special report on it this friday night. hillary was asked about it today. >> well, we're back into the political season and therefore, we will be subjected to all kinds of distraction and attacks and i'm ready for that. i know that comes with the territory. >> i'm sure she wasn't disappointed to see that the white house has her back. >> i think there's been a lot of accusations made about this. but not a lot of evidence. >> i thought it was a pretty simple question. can you assure us that there was absolutely no favorable treatment given to donors of the clinton foundation? >> again, john, what i'm saying is there are a lot of accusations about this. >> that's a pretty basic -- >> john, there's no evidence that indicates this. i don't want to be in the position of -- >> you can say it didn't happen. >> well again i'm not sure that there is anybody who has tangible information that indicates that it did. >> real question look, clinton
2:02 pm
cash goes hand in hand clinton foundation, influence pedalling but eric, tell us about the -- >> well, a ton of numbers on the -- one of the most important things that came out of that "new york times" article today, very important that "new york times" broke the story first. they quoted peter saying we'll see a pattern of financial transactions that occurred contemporaneously with policy decisions benefiting those providing the funds. now, that is illegal and already the left media matters, is trying to spin it as peter's credibility is undermined. remember the stuff with congress people that were doing stock transactions in front of legislation that were -- and the legislation was benefiting their own stock accounts? he made that stock. he's credible. some of the other books that have come out and people are pointing a finger at them you
2:03 pm
may or may not buy into the conspiracy theories. there are a lot of threads hanging from hillary's sweater and they are being pulled and there's a lot more they are going to find when we get full access to the book. >> dana perino, why is he answering those questions? >> maybe he feels like that's what they are going to do for the next 15 months, perhaps president obama has said, defend hillary clinton where you can. i just think that it is a dangerous strategy and that they ought to draw a firm and enforceable red line about not taing about the campaign. there is no reason that the white house has to be answering questions about the clinton foundation. that has nothing to do with the white house, hopefully and i think that they should make a firm line and push back to all
2:04 pm
of the reporters and say, i understand why you're asking me about hillary clinton, she's running for president, the president is not. therefore you're going to draw a firm line and not ever cross it. >> maybe a theory out there, maybe because she was appointed by barack obama they don't want that bad decisions making on obama. >> they invited this whole thing into the white house. >> they have opened themselves up. when are they going to draw the line and not answer the questions but they established a bad precedent by answering these questions as if they had an obligation to do so when these are questions about a campaign and not about her time specifically as secretary of state. >> i salute her. she's a great capitalist. are we sure it's not the republican come knee? this is kind of impressive. there's so many books. >> free market. >> on hillary right now. i can't keep up. they should do a book on bill and make it a pop-up.
2:05 pm
hillary's main issue is equal pay for women. she's campaigning for something that is already law. think about that. that's like maybe next week she will come out against the draft. what she's doing right now is so irrelevant, that's the trouble. the trouble right now isn't this book. it's that she has nothing else but perhaps her gender. >> okay. well, maybe that will be enough. you never know. >> maybe it will. >> the funny thing is now your rhyming is -- >> that was like a rap. >> thank you. >> you know, it's interesting to see if this one sticks. whether it's cattle futures or if you you know ben foster, it's a bogus scandal, so on and so forth none of them stuck and the question is, is this one
2:06 pm
going to stick or should people actually start running against her? >> it didn't stick for democrats. that's the distinction. >> let's see everybody remembers them. that's the thing. it's like best hits list or something like that. but let's talk more about hillary. remember when she made this statement last summer? >> we came out of the white house not only dead broke but in debt. we had no money when we got there and we struggle to piece together the resources for mortgages for houses or chelsea's education, you know, it was not easy. >> now, although she herself said she regretted that remark, her surrogates are still perpetuating the claim. >> i cannot tell you the distress in that family at that time with all of the issues and all the legal fees banks refusing to give them a mortgage. listen people go through tough
2:07 pm
financial times. you remember -- i mean, hillary's mother she was abandoned. that's why hillary is out every single day talking to voters about how can i make your life better. >> meanwhile, the democratic candidate attacked the wealth of the america's ceos on the campaign trail last week. >> there's something wrong when ceos make 300 times more than the typical worker. >> well, the boston examiner put together this interesting graph. per hour, it comes out to about 54000. that is one-sixth of clinton's $300,000 an hour speaking fee. can you imagine making that much money an hour? >> no. but some people were born with a silver spoon in their mouths. she happened to lead with a spoon in her pocket. >> and a few other utensils.
2:08 pm
>> again, you've got to go back to what she's not talking about. for example, she's not talking about foreign policy. she was secretary of state. that's like a doctor remaining silent on a plane when somebody is having a heart attack. you're the expert. you're supposed to be talking about this. this was your job. she's not talking about it because she's incompetent and all she has left is her gender. >> one of the things about this -- >> you're hitting that point hard lately. >> whether this sticks or not, this is going to be something that doesn't necessarily become the front page story for the next 16 months but does it continue to erode her trust and credibility, which were the numbers that we saw in the last several weeks because of the e-mail scandal and other things, she was dropping in key swing states. i think that's why they got the campaign going early. if you think about what happened to mitt romney with 47%, democrats used that to bash him and define him early on and what some of hings, like the
2:09 pm
book and the e-mail stuff does is it gives you a chance to define a candidate. that's why you see the other republicans and a lot of competition they are going to have to differentiate with each other and differentiate from her. that's one of the problems of being the only person running for the democratic nomination that you're going to get the fire power trained on you and the defining campaign early on. >> she's already defined. people love her hate her but they know her. there's very few people who -- no other candidate going back years -- >> why is she going on a listening tour then? >> because she obviously needs a reason to get out there. >> she wants to redefine herself. >> no. listen look at her poll numbers. >> to say i don't get paid $300,000 an hour? >> the whole point is this. she's already defined.
2:10 pm
the difference with her is, if i were the republicans i would tap her on the issues because you're not going to attack her for her personality. >> she's defined as $300,000 per hour speaker and also as the one who said we were broke when we left the white house and we know that number one, that's nothing to do with what she's trying to become on the campaign trail and, number two, we were broke when we left the white house. you know, the $135 million that they made from 2001 to 2012 is one thing. i'm a capitalist. knock yourself out. the problem i have with all of this is during the time that hillary was secretary of state bill clinton had the higher speaker rate and jumped over $500,000 and did 11 speeches during that time and a lot of people are saying the reason he was getting such high speaker rates is because a lot of that money was going back into the clinton foundation and there was some sort of payback going -- >> and that is -- come on they
2:11 pm
are married. let's not be so naive about this. well, a slew of gop contenders were also in new hampshire over the weekend and clinton's name came up quite a bit. >> hillary clinton must not be president of the united states. she will pursue a set of policies that crush possibilities and the potential of this great nation. >> hillary clinton is going to raise $2.5 billion, which that is a lot of chipotle, my friends. >> a little bit startled because i could have sworn i saw hillary's scooby doo van outside. >> i'm starting to worry that when hillary clinton travels, there's going to need to be two planes, one for her and her entourage and one for her baggage. >> they can take shots at her and they are going to do it very nicely with the republican base and that's nice but carly fiorina is the only one that is
2:12 pm
going to advance the cause and that's talking about the issues, not because of her scooby van or her baggage. i'm putting on my campaign hat. the way to beat hillary clinton is if you want to address the issues. you are not going to beat her by going after her personality because it's already defined. >> and it's safer for a colleague to do that because it's woman against woman. >> hookers for hillary she got the bunny ranch support. that was huge. i bet clinton was all thumbs up for that. >> i will make one point. all of the republicans that we keep seeing, they are all raising money right now. >> yeah. >> make sure all of your ts are crossed and is are dotted properly because god forbid the money come in from the wrong place, the left will destroy you. just be careful. >> well, i think that they are talking about the issues. at this point in a campaign it's basically like at the beginning of a big marathon.
2:13 pm
so they are trying to -- they are all starting from the same place. they are starting to raise some money. one guy moves ahead and another one moves forward. they are all getting a little bit of room and of course they are going to talk about her because the republican audiences, when they are talking to them don't necessarily want to know how are you different from rubio or cruz or rand paul or jeb bush or whoever it might be. they want to know, how could you beat hillary clinton? that's why they are talking about her. of course they are. >> there you go. >> i'm interested in the criticism of the critics. we predicted a long time ago there would be accusations of sexism and this weekend -- this is what she wrote. she claimed that the republican rivals will come up with every masogoneous against her. that they would think that every criticism is anti-woman because she's saying that hillary is
2:14 pm
incapable of absorbing legitimate criticism. she is too weak. the gop needs to focus on the hard left organization bent on division. you have to -- you focus on that, then the inevitable conclusion is unity and the person who can best create a message on unity will win the nominee and probably win the country. >> do all of that and take it back 2016. ahead, the fed arrested six men who were gearing up to fight for isis overseas. and later, something that you're not going to want to miss. a look at dana's time at the white house and more as her new book comes out tomorrow. she's excited to tell you all about it so do not go away. the army private shot at the recruit center will finally receive their purple hearts. the privates were injured and one was killed when radical fire opened fire on them. >> it's been five years eight

months and 16 days since my son was killed and we've been fighting this all the way. >> why did it take so long? the administration thought it didn't occur in combat. despite the shooter declaring his jihad i amism, which sounds combative to me. we have a hard time identifying evil when it wants us to. this weekend, isis beheaded more christians. and in pakistan, a woman missed her curfew so her husband burned her alive. awful stuff yet we prefer damning our own problems instead as if they were equal. i get it that stuff is far, far away except that it's really not. >> they have spent a great deal of time over the past year trying to get to syria to fight for isil. they have tried to leave the united states from our airport here in minnesota from jfk airport in new york, by bus, by
2:20 pm
car and by any means possible. they were not confused young men. they were not easily influenced. these are focused men intent on joining a terrorist organization. >> so as we catch more terrorists in america, we realize 2016 isn't about politics but priorities. the dems offer a teetering joke that at its top is climate change which is really retribution. then, economic inequality which is really retribution, and then justice which is really retribution. you might find terror next to gum disease. no longer it took long for an act of war to be deemed so. such matters are not visible until the whole thing collapses and surely it will. all right, k.g. since minnesota men charged with joining isis.
2:21 pm
i always wonder, why don't we let them join? >> that's been your theory. we should say here you go. let them go over there. keep them out of the country. the problem is, these are the people that we're catching. think about those that are here that we're not even aware of that are slipping through the cracks. those are the ones that you have to worry about because they are going to slip through the cracks. there is a serious indoctrination and problem in this country, they for sure have it there. you have teenage girls and everybody becoming eenamored with this, other sites and factions all in the name of isis. it's alarming and i want to know what we are doing about it before it's too late and pre-empt. >> my theory is the first candidate to strongly confront terrorism is going to be the

nominee but you can't be anti-terror if you're on the hard left? >> you can't be anti-terror? >> yes. >> our president is anti-terror. >> all right. excuse me. ft. hood. >> yes, boston was a different story. ft. hood i'll give you. >> little rock. >> they were terrorists but ft. hood, you're right. >> navy yard. >> what i would say to you is this. and i know 9/11 started -- george presidency started after that. >> when did it become mass. sn. >> let's move on. my point is, any president on any watch, i don't care if you're a democrat or republican will do whatever they can to try to avoid any kind of terrorist
2:23 pm
attack. whether it's hillary clinton, martin o'malley or bernie sanders or rand paul or ted cruz who is as right as it gets, all of these people will be committed to stamping out terrorism. >> you may not say it's partisan or political but that is how president obama feels. climate change is way more important than terrorism. >> how can you say that? >> he said it. >> he has not said that. >> he walked into the office and outlined what his goals were for the next four or eight years and one of them was basically saying we want to embrace the muslim community and not treat them like they are the enemy and by doing so maybe the policies over the last six years have opened the door for more terrorism. can i just point out, james comey says he has 50 states under investigation. >> right.
2:24 pm
whose appointee is he? >> i don't know. >> is he a bush appointee? >> he's barack obama's fbi director. >> he has 50 investigations and they are popping up everywhere. that's the point. >> the point is, they are supposed to be investigating them. of course they are supposed to be investigating them. >> and they are actually pursing them and actually coming to fruition. >> great. i'm glad they are. >> can i point one thing out about the christians who got beheaded over the weekend? i would love to see isis. i would love to see them killed, murdered taken apart. however, there's a christian response to it that is amazing on the internet. right now it's a group called onepeterfive.com. if you watch it you'll see the christian response to isis. >> dana? >> do you have a question for me? >> i was going to ask you about the christians that were
2:25 pm
beheaded, the eat threethiopians. >> the first thing that happened in foreign policy in 2009 was the disillusion of the global war on terror. if you look at all of the things that you just mentioned, all of the things that we could name, pretty soon you get back to a global war on terror. we just don't call it that. the other thing that is happening in the united states a lot of these people recruiting isis they are digital natives. they are faster than us and we are lagging behind. the other thing is you have to have community involvement. moms don't want their kids to fight with isis but also don't want their kids to go to jail. the immigrant refugee community is clamming up and we don't have the way to get the intel that we need. that's the problem that we need to solve. not a partisan one. >> got to go. stay tuned. next on "the five," dana is going to tell you about her new book. i've read it.

okay. this has been an exciting week for me because my very first book comes out. my only book. it's called "and the good news is." it's been called little house on the prairie meets the west wing. but it's also stories about what goes on behind the scenes right here on "the five" and more. the producers did a great job. here's a peak at what is inside my book. the day i learned about becoming the next white house press secretary was the day i decided to resign from the white house. i had been deputy press secretary for 2 1/2 years and with the bush administration since right after 9/11. i served during a time of two wars.
2:31 pm
supreme court nominations natural disasters and major financial crisis and more. i didn't want to admit that i was tired but one day that august i decided it was time. i pulled the president's counselor aside and, to my surprise, he needed to tell me something first. tony snow the current press secretary was going to be leaving to focus on his health and family. had he been fighting a valiant battle against cancer, which he sadly lost a year later. it was bittersweet but an overwhelming honor and an opportunity i knew i couldn't turn down. >> i've chosen dana perino. she can handle you all. what i look for in somebody like dana is somebody who works in that oval office and gives me sound and good advice. >> you never would have picked me out of a crowd and said, she'll be white house press secretary one day and that's what makes america so great.
2:32 pm
one day you're sitting on a barnyard fence thinking you'll never leave home and the next you're sitting on marine one with the president of the united states. god bless america indeed. there was never a day when i didn't love my job, even on those more challenging ones with reporters. i traveled with president bush at home and abroad to afterrica europe and beyond and even got a chance to meet the queen. it was an opportunity of a lifetime. >> would you do this job again? >> oh, yes absolutely. i would. but i wouldn't do it for anybody else. >> in january 2009, i felt like everything was ending and it was but so much was beginning. i was very busy in my post-white house life, launching a business and i became a contributor on fox news. then, in 2011 while waiting for my bags after a trip to nigeria, i got an unexpected call. fox was trying out a temporary

show called "the five". >> hello, everyone. it's 5:00 on the east coast and this is "the five". >> four years later and you know the rest. it took a while for me to come out of my press secretary shell to just be myself. but soon enough, i had gone from spelling out words like sex. >> sometimes you don't feel like having s-e-x. >> to becoming the first and only one in the fleet. >> you look at the justice department and the one that i inherited. >> and this message from our sponsors. >> i've never laughed so hard in a job. >> violent moms. >> go ahead, you can do it. >> i might get fired. >> or gotten so fired up. >> are you trying to protect president obama? >> no i'm not trying to protect anybody. >> i'm having a hot flash fever. >> and that's usually when the look comes out.
2:34 pm
i've been told i was born with that face. i'm so grateful to be a part of "the five". >> i got a brother i never wanted. >> she snowboards and jet skis on a seahorse and shoots with a pool stick. this is dana perino. >> and made my family pet part of the show. >> here's an example. one for you. bob for you. i thought you would like this one. >> this show has been hijacked by this dog. >> i don't know what is in store for the next chapter of my life but the great news is i'm not ready to turn the page on this one. >> so the producers put that together. i appreciate it. most of you have been able to read it. eric, you have read it over the weekend? >> yes, and this morning. honestly, it's a fantastic book. i love the book and i've made sticky notes
2:35 pm
probably one of my more -- >> right. we were on the ranch and this is a story i looked back and thought this was a defining moment for me and he was a wonderful rancher a very successful in new castle, wyoming, leo perino, and we were coming down a gravel road and a horse had fallen through the cattle guard and broken its leg and he had to shoot it and it was a moment where he tried to have me protect my sister. >> you realized life was tougher than -- >> yeah. and a theme through the book is i've learned that strength and gentleness go hand in hand. >> one more question. one of the other things, you weren't a republican your whole life but it was a process? >> yes. and i talk about how i ended up -- one of the things the book says is how does somebody like me who grew up with that background and no political connections end up working at the white house and then how i got to be here. there's practical advice in there. julia read it a while ago and i
2:36 pm
appreciate it. >> i did and it was wonderful and not only your graciousness and what makes you a wonderful person come across, it really does, but for me as a democrat, what was so striking to me all of us who are -- especially on the other side of the aisle, have images of president george bush as this guy -- everybody has a preconception of any president. this actually made me appreciate him as a human being. he comes across as a wonderful man and i think you were so lucky to work for him and i know how grateful you were. >> there's a lot of stories in there and i think it does provide a missing piece of the puzzle of a history that hasn't been written yet, which is the personal reflections of staff and taking you behind the scenes, stories you've never heard before and they weren't covered in the news because nobody was there. it was just my colleagues and i and i dedicate the book to my bush administration colleagues and i'll be in d.c. on thursday night with a party with them.

greg, you helped me with the writing which i appreciated. >> i loved the section about your time in the bengals. nobody knew that she dated in the '90s -- that whole chap sister on the relationship, it's incredible. i didn't realize what a great guy he was at times but also a monster. >> and then you killed that man in arizona because he was whistling during breakfast? >> i just wanted a really candid look at my life. >> you -- warts and all. i was shocked. >> immunity from prosecution for all of that. but i think it's great too dana, because you have done all of these great things, mercy ships minutemen forring mentoring and trying to share with women the secrets of your sucks and and not being able to get out there and do something on behalf of other people and give back, especially since -- >> you know what is great about it and i write about this, when i first was transitioning from my post-white house life to here, i was worried that i would
