speaking of which, look at the northern tier of the country. 50s and 60s. the southern half we're dealing with very warm humid air. that's one of the ingredients we need and cool across the west as the storm systems come out of the rockies and give us those ingredients for severe weather. let's talk about it. we have tornado watch here until around 8:00 p.m. for parts of the ohio and tennessee river valley and several severe thunderstorm watches in effect. where we could see hail damaging winds and yes, even tornadoes. just because you're under a severe thunderstorm watch doesn't mean you can't see rotation. we do have severe thunderstorm warnings just starting to light up the screen here in parts of florida, alabama, and georgia. large hail being reported. very damaging winds. 60 miles per hour. 70 miles per hour winds and then up across the ohio river valley toward illinois and indiana that's where we're also seeing the potential for strong to severe storms this evening. here's our future radar. we'll watch the storm exit.
3:07 pm
be aware where we could see the severe potential. keep your weather radios on and then our next storm system could bring a foot and a half of snow across the rockies as it ejects into the plains on monday. so here's your severe threat overnight tonight across the ohio tennessee river valley and mid-atlantic and then tomorrow our next system a brand new system moves in so the southern plains again, oklahoma texas, down toward austin into monday. monday and tuesday some of the same areas that were hit hard. eric this is typical for this time of the year. we have actually been on the lower side of the tornado county but it just takes one to cause a massive amount of damage. back to you. >> sadly that's so true and certainly folks should be aware. as always thank you so much. >> you got it. another big weekend event for rebspublicans getting underway. the faith and freedom coalition summit in iowa kicking off a few minutes ago.

clinton cash controversy? >> there certainly is a lot and of course we had the fox news reporting special, the tangled clinton web airing last night and again tonight at 10:00. senator marco rubio told me earlier today that if in fact it's found there was some sort of quid pro quo between donations and foreign money and u.s. policy that would be a disqualifier for hillary clinton in the presidential race. another candidate that will be here tonight has been particularly critical of senator clinton told me yesterday at an event near iowa city that what was going on with the clinton cash was very disturbing to hear to her. this is what she told me. >> this is really troubling. it's troubling because it says something fundamental about her candor. it says something fundamental about her judgment. >> so when we come back here now to the candidates who do iowans

presidency. >> how does your current job matter before you get the big desk in the oval office? we're joined by former deputy staff secretary to president clinton. welcome. >> hi guys. >> tammie one of the former governors, perry, does he have a point. do you think about the senators and do you think senator rubio has a point about the governors? >> they both have an argument. rubio is making the best argument he can to explain why someone with no executive experience with no real governing experience should be trusted with the white house. perry does have the benchmark of saying look what we have with barrack obama. on the other hand the real issue is i don't know if anybody is ready on day one for the presidency but the issue comes down to character and leadership. an argument could be made that abraham lincoln wasn't ready. he was a failed house candidate. he won one term. he was a lawyer from illinois and he wasn't even the first
3:23 pm
choice of the republican party. he became one of our greatest if not the greatest president next to president washington. so when you look historically the problem with rubio's argument is he almost sounds like he's a little bit of a desperate young man going into a job interview. his answer really should be that this is about leadership. it's about character. it's about who we are. he could use abraham lincoln example but you don't want to compare yourself to lincoln but i think in the front we're looking at job experience. that's where perry is right and then rubio will have to prove he has the character and leadership to lead. >> there seems to be a move toward the governors. chris christie predicted the next president will be a governor and hillary clinton is a former senator. >> well, i think reasonable minds can disagree about whether or not this -- he's trying to
3:24 pm
play offense and defense at the same time. he's trying to argue that he's better qualified than the governors in the race like governor walker or governor bush. he's trying to differentiate himself from barrack obama. here's the problem for the republican party. yes they want to be able to say we want a youthful candidate to contrast with hillary clinton but at the same time they have to decide whether it's youth or experience that they're after. you can't have both. so what's it going to be. there's such a wide variety of individuals. people not from the belt way like carly fiorina who is making a lot of people look twice at her candidacy. governors were experience. marco rubio who represensts somebody with a lot of potential
3:25 pm
in the future. we have had good and bad presidents that have been governors and members of congress. maybe it's time for somebody that hasn't been in washington at all. that's what is appealing about fiorina. >> i did an unofficial tally here going back to the beginning of the last century basically. you got ten governors, six senators so right now the governors are winning. david. >> well president bill clinton was a governor. president ronald reagan was a governor. john kennedy was a senator. as i say, there are reasonable arguments on both sides of the debate but i think what our republican colleague just pointed out, the issue of experience i think that it is something that americans really want to hear a lot about right now. this is a serious election about serious times and to complexity of world events and domestic mik issues american people want to

3:33 pm
thank you for being with me. i want to start here should the policy on the handling of kidnapped americans be reevaluated? >> well there's a lot of uncertainty in this policy. we don't negotiate with americans taken hostage but if you look at the wreckage you can see that's not true. we know that five taliban detainees were traded for an american soldier. we know in 2011 there were two american hikers in iran and ransom was paid to iran to release them through middle eastern country but clearly we were paying to release these americans. i think we have to have a consistent policy that doesn't give money to terrorism but still gets americans out of these situations. >> let's talk about the review on the drone program: how extensive will it be and what
3:34 pm
will they be focussing on. >> this is a popular program on the hill. it's been successful but we have always known this has a cost. there's no much thing as a surgical strike. when we do a drone strike against a target there's going to be civilian death. in this case there were western deaths. this was something called a signature strike. we struck a target not knowing who was it in because intelligence told us it was an al qaeda facility. that's something that has to be looked at very carefully. >> so you're overall in favor of the program. but is there any potential changes, fred could those changes adverse ri effect the current war against isis? >> i don't think the program is going to be reversed but there's issues concerning isis in drone strikes affecting what's going on in syria and iraq and pakistan and that's the lack of adequate intelligence on the ground. clearly these are very difficult operating areas and without adequate intelligence on the ground civilians will be

3:36 pm
they're going to try to find out what are the conditions that the obama administration is using to conduct the strikes. there's a lot of secrecy about how the strikes have been done. there's not been accountability for those launching them. >> let me ask a quick question. is it necessary? if you say we're going to send drones on this point of the map at this time of the day, i don't know should there be such secrecy involved or is that a problem. >> there has to be secrecy but there should be more accountability. we don't want our enemies to know what we're tracking. but they're going to have a better idea on what we're bombing, did we kill an al qaeda leader how many siblings were killed et cetera. >> thank you for clarifying that. good to see you. i'll see you again soon. >> good to be here thank you. >> it may be a jungle but some residents aren't happy about the new neighbors. heard about this?
