i am heather childers. >> i am ainsley earhardt. thank you for starting your day with us. for the first time in day the stores are quiet in baltimore. >> good news after it began with rioters hurting things at police and police retaliating with tear gas. >> the curfew has now been lifted. >> the curfew just a minute ago ended but you look around it is still all quiet here at the epicenter of where we have been seeing so much of the really noisy riots, so much of the clashes between police and protestors and the more violent riders. now we have just in the last few minutes seen a few people emerge. city buses are now running. but things were so secure here with the heavy national guard presence and with the heavy local and state police presence there was no police line last night. when we got here on to the

scene, media is allowed to be here. we had to show credentials. there was no line of officers stretching across the street. they were bunched at each intersection had their tactical vehicles out and obviously keepen keeping an eye on things. that's of course at the back end of the curfew. last night they were shooting pepper balls at protestors to try to disperse a large crowd of people who didn't want to go home on time. an injury of an officer with the exception of a handful of arrests for the people who did not obey as earl will i as we got here and were arrested for violating the curfew. it has been a lot more pasteful in the last few hours. >> that's good news and what everyone wanted to hear. how will the looters be held accountable? >> so there are the police on the front lines right now but

there are also people in back rooms at the police department at law enforcement agencies looking at clear video. they matched faces to names and they will be there monday and tuesday. listen to this. >> there's an infamous photo they took him into custody monday morning. >> there's a piece of footage out there every social media we will find the people responsible for the crime. we are going to arrest them. >> it is early hour before sunrise the seats at camden yards a few days away where the seats are empty. even though a game will remain there the seats will remain empty. they won't let anybody from the public watch the orioles white

open season on our police officers. >> with how much danger are officers in now and how much is being done to protect them. randy sutton is the spokesperson for american council on police and a 30 year veteran. >> a 33 year veteran, have you ever seen a time like this when it does appear to be open season on officers? >> well no. i have never really seen anything quite like this. i was a veteran of the rodney king fright night when the riots took place across the country and there was pretty much anarchy at that time. but i don't think we have seen what's taking place in baltimore in 50 years. it is an extremely dangerous time for law enforcement in a lot of different ways. >> and what can we do to counter the problem? it also seems like it is

spreading through social media. >> this is one of the greatest dangers to paceface the police is the abuse of social media. let's look at it a little closer. the seeds of anarchy, the seeds of discontentment and violence that are taking place, they prepare free fertile ground for organized attacks on law enforcement. when you look at organized gangs criminal gangs, they present a tremendous threat to law enforcement. they always have is but now with what has been taking place recently this gives them further impetus and gives them an opportunity to target law enforcement in that anarchy, in that chaos of what is taking place in the streets of baltimore ferguson and wherever the next city is that this takes

place. >> this isn't the first time we have seen this where these groups have come together said they were going to bond together. we saw it as you mentioned in ferguson as well. what can we do to stop it? >> well what law enforcement is doing is using their criminal intelligence capabilities. that means that informants when gang members are being arrested developing informants using electronic surveillance wiretaps and that kind of situation to gather information to mine information to let officers know where the direct threats are. when i saw the gang's bonding in baltimore today, i almost had to laugh because what is happening there is they are presenting themselves as civil groups. they are criminal gangs. they make their sources of income on the backs of their

victims. that is the people that become addicted to their drugs, the people that they victimize and they have for years and years and years. as they present themselves as a civic association as a group to help the community it is sickening for me to see that. last year we saw 126 officers die in the line of duty. we saw an unprecedented amount of ambush attacks on law enforcement two in vegas where two officers were targeted and gunned down while having lunch. we saw the same thing in new york city. >> it really is -- it seems to be unprecedented. lieutenant, thank you so much for joining us. we appreciate it. >> thank you so much for having me. >> it is now 19 minutes after the top of the hour. panic as passengers packed on a plane see flames shooting out of the engine. >> what happened on board that

rioterers ripping products oh of the shelves grabbing as much as they can carry smashing the door with a sludge handlinger to get inside. this is one of the dozens of examples of rioters ransacking stores. one man stayed there to protect his restaurant but his neighbors weren't so lucky. listen as he described the moment. >> at that point we would have tried to intervene had we been outside. at that point we hadit had grown dark. i was inside with the lights off in case someone broke in i was going to introduce them. i make introductions for them. to the dog and then the lord. >> business owners are feeling a little better. an attorney who represents several of the owners said despite all of the damage there is a silver lining. >> i think the rebuilding is going to take weeks if not months. many of the business owners reported to me that folks from the neighborhood came out in the morning expressed their concerns and helped clean up.
