kate middleton and prince william welcome the newest edition to the royal family. >> we begin this hour in baltimore where there is a different mood today. thousands of protesters gathered at city hall for what they're calling a victory rally. ahead of a march through downtown. the event was originally planned as a protest over the death of freddie gray. >> it has become more of a celebration for some after news of yesterday's charges. that were filed against these six police officers who were involved in gray's arrest. there may be some celebrating among those downtown. other people are picking up the pieces from the riots. mike tobin joins us live from baltimore where residents are getting much needed assistance. >> they really are. it's interesting, you'll see a lot of churches responding in the event of a disaster. you have this beautiful choir

you're seeing there h. do you think that type of spirit is spreading over the destruction and the negativity we've seen? >> one would hope. as you look at the situation last night, people said they were no longer demonstrating. you also see something that warms your heart like this with a church responding. not just a little. they put out the word over social media as you heard from many and the faithful came back and loaded this truck with so much specifically. it was like they created a bridle registry and people went out shopping for those items and filled up the trucks. now you see them getting to the people who need it until they with get to longer term solution and rebuild that cvs pharmacy. >> that is a sense of spirit of generosity and caring. tomorrow is sunday plans in churches for churches to call for healing and moving? >> it looks that way.

police officers in the death of freddie gray they're calling it a victory rally. a teenage rioter smashing a police car has turned himself on. he is reportedly being held on half a million dollars bail. his stepfather said he saw bullock on television and convinced him to turn himself in. he faces eight misdemeanor charges, including inciting a riot. he could spend years behind bars if convicted. >> thousands not only just gathered in wunt of the baltimore city hall. but others in the country marching in may day protests. some of those people threw rocks at police officers. at least 16 protesters were arrested. in oregon portland police say there was a peaceful

demonstration. that one spiralled out of control. when they say a small group started throwing chairs and other objects at police officers. police had to use pepper spray to marchers who left the purimtsed work. at least four of those protesters were arrested. more than a dozen pop were arrested in oakland, california. police say some of the demonstrators committed acts of vandalism like breaking windows and starting small fires. in new york city about a thousand people took to the streets again marching through downtown carrying banners with messages like justices for freddie gray and disarm the nypd. tensions flared earlier this year about some incidents. at the end of this march, some protesters continued on nearby streets and there were tensions with police. it was fewer than a dozen

arrests. dozens turning up under a smile reading turn up by baltimore flanked by police officers on both sides in that march in philly. no one was arrested. other news new developments in the crisis in yemen. iran saying it will not let regional powers jeopardize its security interest in yemen. meanwhile, the u.s. government is holding off on any operations to rescue americans trooapped in yemen. a state department official saying any evacuation mission in the country would put u.s. citizens and assets at high risk. jennifer griffin is live in washington with the details. >> well at least eight other countries, including russia, china and india have rescued their citizens. the united states has refused to launch an evacuation effort in yemen. right now, there are more than 700 u.s. citizens trapped in war torn yemen. the u.s. state department says it has no plans to evacuate them

because they say it is quote, too dangerous. state department officials are not planning an evacuation like it did from egypt after the arab spring broke out or lebanon in 2006 when 15,000 americans were evacuated by sea and helicopter. when war broke out with israel. since evacuating the u.s. embassy in february it has told u.s. citizens they're on their own. if they plan an air lift or evacuation by sea al qaeda linked rebelled might target them. >> i think all of us have hopes that yemen can find a path forward. now it's not going to be easy. >> with memories of the attack on the uss coal in 2000 state department spokesman marie harf has pointed victims to an online registration system. the department of defense has not carried out an operation. sea ports are closed.

those americans who are trapped are mostly muslims. three muslim groups in the u.s. have launched a website called stuck in yemen dot com and filed a lawsuit in a u.s. federal court accusing the state department and dod of discrimination. the state department has told americans to e-mail an organization and copy the state department at that following addresses. the americans that are stuck have expressed distappointment. in the movies the u.s. doesn't leave anybody behind. on the other hand the state department began warning americans to leave when they closed the embassy on february 11th. >> jennifer griffin reporting live. u.s. led air strikevise reportedly killed 52 civilians in syria. britain based group claiming seven have been killed.

filed against his former aides are not proof he was involved. new poll numbers suggest voters might not be entirely convinced. we have a reporter for the hill joining us now. a former christie ally pleaded guilty yesterday to shutting down traffic lanes in new jersey in a way that would deliberately cause huge traffic jams in ft. lee whose mayor didn't endorse chris christie. david wildstein's guilty plea came yesterday. wildstein's lawyer says that wildstein's cooperating in the ongoing investigation and evidence exists that christie did know about those closures and that wildstein is prepared to provide details. this contradicts christie's denials. he said this was all done without his knowledge. what will this dofor his fundraising and any potential campaign? >> this scandal is by no means over by governor chris christie. this is a stunning remarkable turn around from an early

presidential frontrunner for the republican party. now clearly weeks before he has to make a final decision about whether to get into an already crowded republican presidential field, you've got the ghost of bridge gate still hanging over him. it's his word against one of his former political allies in a high stakes game of political finger pointing. at the time when governor christie needs to change the political narrative, these bridge gate headlines are dogging his political career. >> the "new york post" today, bridge gate closes christie's white house road. i was seeing other similar headlines. in addition to what wildstein's guilty plea charges have been filed against bridget kelly, a former christie aide and bill baroni of the port authority. they've been saying this since 2013, even if christie didn't know the buck stops with him. it says something about his management style and culture. is that fair? >> the political culture is the

argument -- again in a crowded republican field, will hang over him if he decides to run for president. now, that being said this isn't like the democratic primary where the republican candidates are going to have to actually talk to the press in regards to all of their political culture and their management style. i talked to a lot of republican strategists swells folks that are adamant in christie world that he can bounce back from this. they say there is no one better at retail politics and interacting with voters in iowa and new hampshire. they say he's on the phone just about every other day with republican donors trying to get the republican donors still to support him. but, you know it's so crowded and you look at folks like former florida governor jeb bush, and senator marco rubio, to some extent with wisconsin governor scott walker who are also making that case to donors. very crowded field. how he's able to change that

narrative remains to be seen. >> christie's poll numbers have been dropping in new jersey. a poll taken before these latest charges and guilty plea shows 56% disapproval rate 38% approving. if he's losing popularity in his home state, what does that say about his national appeal? let's take a look where he stands in the field of potential gop nominees right now. there are six candidates ahead of him if we could show that poll of christie up against the other nominees. there he is at 6%. if christie is hurt more by the latest bridge scandal stories, which of the other candidates would probably gain the most? >> it comes down to the more moderate centrist type of republican candidate. the people like former governor bush, to some extent governor walker and of course to senator rubio who are trying to navigate that political tight rope if you will between the tea party more conservative base of the republican movement versus the

are at peace. thank you. well while some are cheering the charges brought against the six officers some critics say the prosecutor has overcharged and may ultimately lose credibility with the jury making it harder to get any kind of conviction. charles krauthammer says it seems like appeasement of the mob. what is the path forward? we have a criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor. thank you for joining us. you say two strengthened the prosecution's case one he wasn't belted and wasn't given prompt medical attention. >> i said this before that's something the prosecutor is going to specifically look at in terms of not intention or purpose to kill, whether it rose the level of recklessness. very hard road for the prosecutor to go forward on. we still don't know -- at her press conference yesterday it appeared she doesn't want to know. prosecutors don't want to try cases when they don't know

answers to questions. >> one of the things she said we don't know how or why or when or whaumdt happened. >> i thought this investigation went far too quickly. i've been involved in deaths by police officers. it takes months for careful attention. you want to have the power of subpoena and compel witnesses to come in. why this was done after 19 days and only just getting the pathologist and autopsy report which wasn't clear and not going to another expert to do check and balances. to me very political. >> speaking of the politics obviously a lot of the protests are revolving around race. out of the six officer whose are being charged here three of them are black. the one facing the toughest charges, the driver who is being accused of the highest charges, is black. does that change the dynamic at all? >> listen there is always

attention in these communities where there is high crime and police officers that are aggressively trying to intradict to make the community safe. all though police officers are diverse, in the end it's looked at the community against the police officers regardless if they're black or white. the argument that we need diversity doesn't seem to be effective. it's us versus them. these cops are put in a difficult situation to keep the community safe. when they do we're not deal ing with choir people in these scenarios there are people that do all sorts of things that are dangerous. i think they got a tough job. i think the press conference the prosecutor did yesterday put all cops on the crucible in this entire country by tying this into other narratives. >> lumping all of these cases together each one of them is very uniquing and has its own

set of circumstances, and also each one we still don't know all the facts in any of them. and lumping them together does just make all police seem bad. but now, the police though on the other hand sometimes they're admitting now they do things with a wink and nod that aren't quite policy. it is a policy you belt the suspect in the back. we've had people police officers telling fox anonymously, is that if a suspect gives them hard time during the arrest they will sometimes punish them by giving them what's known as a rough ride. >> that is a kwuminappropriate practice. had that been proved i'm sure these wouldn't be reckless charges it would have been murd murder charges. i have been out at the screen as an emt, people feigning illnesses with police officers as a game that career criminals play that are passively resisting the police officers where they go into the scenario

dramatic fashion. tell me about your wound that you suffered? >> it's a pleasure to be here. in 2008 i was in western afghanistan, we were hit with a near ambush my vehicle was hit with two rpg's. my driver was incapacitated. as i went to pull him out to safety i was hit with an rpg. >> president bush signed your tat to just now. you looked to me very emotional about it. i believe he leads by love. >> he does. he's one of the greatest men i've ever met. i was in a special forces group. this was my oda symbol team symbol. for him to sign it it means the world. i'm going to get it tat toed over. the message is resonating around the country. it's a message of optimism and hope and healing. there a lot of research going on at the bush institute and else where about how to best treat

years and in 1984 surfaced in cuba where she remains. by then, she radiated the dark glamour of fearless celebrity fugitive. accordingly, the f.b.i. added her to its most wanted list. the first woman ever to attain such status. every now and then, she writes a self-quiteious book or an open letter in which she describes herself as a 20th century escaped slave. it was probably naive to think that president obama would demand extradition as a condition of her removing cuba from the terrorist list. the cuban government knows her trade value and will use it to extract more concessions. new jersey governor chris christie is demanding she be returned to continue serving her sentence. a good campaign theme for a presidential run. in the end, a deal will be made, somehow, somewhere and the
