nt a team to investigate. they are expected to begin that investigation sometime in the morning. it was a horrific scene. you can see the train cars search of them that p went off the rail including the engine a mangled mess of metal. 238 passengers on board along with five crew. at least five killed, 6 critically injured and more than 130 hurt. many of them bloodied. many injured were able to climb out of windows but others had to be helped out by first responders some of them carried out on stretchers. here is more from the deputy fire commissioner describing the scene. >> i have never seen anything so devastating. they are in pretty bad shape. you can see it completely derailed from the track destroyed the aluminum shell.

again i don't want to speculate on the cause but it is a devastating situation. >> amtrak has suspended service on the busy northeast corridor between philadelphia and noeshlg. this will be limited service between philippe and washington and new york and boston p. any one trying to get from philadelphia to new york on amtrak it is goesing to take a while. if you have loved ones who may have been on the train there's a hot line 1-800-523-9101. 1-800-523-9191. 1-800-523-9 -- 9101. a horrific scene as the train derailed more than 100 hurt and at least 5 dead. >> talked to several people on the train. one person said they didn't notice anything differently when it comes to speed. another person did say it felt like the train was slowing down. did the conductor see something on the track that made the

conductor possibly show down? >> that will be part of the investigation. we have heard from some passengers who said they felt the train decelerate almost like someone hit the brakes and things started to shake and shutter and the car started to roll and shift and tumble off the tracks. people were thrown around inside the car in some places. a cause will have to be determined by the ntsb. rick leventhal we will check in with you later. thanks, rick. >> as day breaks and the investigation just begins we are starting to hear first hand accounts from those on board. seth davis was in that third car when she said it shifted to the right and then it turned over on its side. she joins us now by phone. bette thank you for joining us. i know you were with us last night. thank you for waking up with us this morning. can you tell us what happened? >> it was pretty standard.

i was on the phone. the phone conversation ended, suddenly it shifted to the right. it felt like it was just like a normal turn but then the car started to like go on the right-hand side. in the moment it was kind of chaos. everything was dark. there's just people and things and chairs all trembling upon you -- tumbling upon you and you are not sure when the motion is going to stop. it was the moment we stopped moving i could taste dirt and i could feel the people around me were really hurt. the person next to me trapped in their seat chair, people looking for exits. it was coming out of that moment a shock. >> beth in terms of the way people were reacting and those

that were getting off of the train tell us about that process. were they crying were they scared. >> did you just say you were tasting dirt? >> why he. my car was on the ride so it was mull tinl yards off the track. part of the windows were kind of sliding across the dirt. i was covered with it. yeah bottom windows were still there. some people were laying in the dirt. we had to actually exit the top and side. at fist we were doing it slowly because people were injured and we didn't want to hurt them. we were also helping people who were injured up but we started to smell smoke. haired somebody in the back say calmly, calmly but we need to get off this train right now. people were helping each other

kind of get off the top of the train. then you are kind of looking and you just kind of -- you look over the first two-cars they were just people weren't getting out of it. >> you told us earlier you went to the hospital. we are glad you are okay this morning. thank you for joining us. beth davis who was a passenger on the train. >> how traumatic. i cannot image. the deadly crash playing out on social media with first hand accounts of the esther fying -- of the terrifying accident. jackie i bebanez has incredible photographs. >> we are taking a look at the train after the frantic moment it flipped off the tracks. >> keep calling, okay?

>> crawl forward, sir. >> twitter and instagram lining up with photos and videos joust like these. patrick murphy was one of the more than 230 on board. he snapped this photo showing the carnage inside. >> i flew to the other side landed on my head then i checked my body parts. i was okay. guy next to me was unconscious. i slapped him a little bit and got him up. >> murphy saying within minutes first responders arrived and started fullingpulling out responders. fellow travelers chipped in to help out. one passenger who happened to be a nurse had her wrist broken by a flying suitcase. she called it a nightmare. >> i tried to help anybody. there were many injured people on the train and they were very very upset. so many head injuries and bloody

faces and people were really injured. they were thrown out of their seats. >> a lot of people coming together to help out on this this morning after they started to sort through evidence. they will be using the social media accounts and witness statements to peaceiece together the entire event. >> 20 amtrak derailments last year. according to the railroad administration there were more than 1700 train accidents in 2014 total which were not amtrak trains. some were champs in february a commuter train slamming into an abandoned truck in california. a train engineer died and 28 ears injured. in 2013 four people killed more than 70 injured when a metro north train derailed in the bronx. the crash was blamed on a sleep deprived engineer who fell

asleep during a curve. a tractor trailer stuck on the tracks in california. last month a train derailed outside of the station in maine. no one was injured in that. >> the race against time to find the crew of a u.s. military helicopter gone missing. it helped earthquake victims when it vanished from radar. david joins us live on the phone. (speaking on telephone) >> the missing marine helicopter, they haven't found any trace of if. the marine corps helicopter was carrying six marines and nationals. it was helping relief efforts in the area after the q devastated them. they report hearing the pilots helicopter warning of a fuel

during a routine traffic stop. banks is charged with two counts of capitol murder. how do protestors floold the sheets after a madison wisconsin police officer is cleared of the murder of tony robinson in march after robinson attacked him and three other people while high on drugs. they decided the use of deadly force was justified. the robinson family now plan to go file a civil lawsuit against the madison police department. >> oo the man responsible for the report on deflate gate and tom brady's suspension mrashing out at critz ticks. he said the smoking gun text messages between the two patriot employees are the direct evidence he used to reach his conclusion. >> the decision in this report was one thing, it was the evidence. i could not ethically ignore the import and relevancy of those

>> welcome back to you. more now on a fox news alertd. an absolute disastrous mess. that is how philadelphia's mayor is describing the scene of a deadly amtrak derailment. five people dead, dozens more injured. wtfx reporter is live at the scene with us. what is the latest? >> well that quote you gave from the mayor was from the latest news conference which came at 1:00. nothing official in more than four hours but i am talking to some police officers who are deferring officially to federal officials from the national transportation safety board. they said do not be surprised if that fm of five dead is a higher number at the next official update, because the wreckage is so bad.

now we are counting this in hours terms. we are talking 7 and a half hours of rescue and recovery and they are still acting like this accident just happened. they still believe there are people in that wreckage to either help or recover right now. i heard you ask before the break what kind of injuries. well i talked to one doctor nearby who came in and volunteered. he said abdominal internal kind of injuries. one of the key people he treated was an amtrak conductor who was not working but riding on the train. he heard a loud screech followed by a loud slamming noise as he describes it. he must have gotten blacked out or knocked out because he woke up with a mouth and faceful of dirt outside the train, ainsley. >> thank you for that live report from philadelphia. we will check back in with you later. >> five people are dead six people are in critical condition this morning. dozens with less severe injuries today. so how do emergency crews even start the triage process in a

situation like this with so many hurt. mark seigel is here to answer just that. we heard reports of broken bones and loss of consciousness and lacerations. how do you begin the triage? >> you have to start with what you think are the most life threatening injuries. when you heard abdominal pain you worry one of the major organs were hit. you geoff them intravenous lines to replace all blood that may have been lost. you get them right to the hospital for surgery if needed. you think about head injuries. p people flying around the cars like this you could end up with blood in the head you could end up with head trauma or spinal injuries. on the scene emergency workers will take people who they think may have damaged their spine and literally tape them down to hard boards so they can't move and get them right to the hospital. everybody at a scene like this

are going to think they are injured but you have to get to those hurt worst. underlying diseases. hurt problems. people don't always know anything is wrong with them. you have to watch out for hours afterward. >> when the reporter was saying ab abdominal injuries you shake your head that could be serious. >> that could be damage to the kidney or major organ. you have to get to triage right away. >> are you most at risk when you are in front? >> the more stress on you the worst the problem is. the faster the car was going, if those cars got crunched one of the cars hit a utility pole. so that could come right in. it is how much torque there is on you when you are thrown. >> heather over to you. the time is 19 minutes after

five people dead, dozens others injured in a disastrous train derailment in philadelphia. moments from now when the sun comes up crews on the ground will get a clearer picture of the extent of the devastation. >> let's get right to joel he's live on the scene. are there still people that were on that train unaccounted for this morning? >> ainsley and heather, by all accounts of what we are hearing everyone at this point has been accounted for. i must stress that is not confirmed by any means. we are told everyone has been taken off the trains. i can tell you we just arrived on scene a few moments ago. we have been maneuvered through a maze of police or security as well as a bevy of fist responders who are still obviously checking to ensure that there are no passengers remaining. let me step out of the way and show you you can make out one of the cars on its side at this early hour at 5:24 in the morning. couple of power poles tilted as

well because of the impact of the crash. this is 188 heading from washington, d.c. to new york city. we know that five people have died more than 50 in the hospital with critical conditions. impact mangled the front of the train while other cars were overturned. 7 cars are completely off the track at this point. the cause still unknown. the area where it happened had a big curve. passengers say when they entered the curve the train began shaking. one of those on board was former u.s. congressman patrick murphy. he described what happened immediately after the crash. >> a lot of blood and a lot of folks got banged up got hurt back. there were people who didn't care they were getting off that train they were stepping over people and stuff. >> the mayor says it is unlikely there will be any amtrak service

mentioned. some were able to extricate themselves others had to be cut out of the cars. they were here through out the night and this morning. they believe they have gotten everybody off the trains. that was a challenge as well. many of the people who were on the plain were from new york. >> a few quick things have three re they released anything about the five people who died, was the conduct tore one of them. the neighborhood the area can you describe what area it is. >> it is a mix of businesses an residential. there are a lot of homes that line the train tracks. give you a look over my shoulder we have auto body shops and also a lot of homes here. as far as we know no one was hurt in thinkany of the houses that line the train tracks.

the next several days. that is why the flood threat will continue. we have areas of rain out there across parts of western texas and through new mexico. it is unsettled out west. which will see parts of the plains producing the heavy rain and the flood potential. isolated severe weather across southern texas today looking at the risk of large hail and also damaging winds. forecast models are calling for as much as 8 inches of rainfall across texas through friday. we expect flooding to be there for the next couple of days. temperature wise across the nation here's a look at the high temperatures today 80's very warm out there still across parts of the northeast. you can see temperatures behind that system are a lot cooler. 610 for you in new york city. 50's in boston and buffalo. you are going to be in the 50's.

their experiences on social media and in person described some horrific scenes inside the train. >> it felt like it was a sharp curve like they were going around a curve. then all of a sudden my head hit the window and we were going down and just slipping just slipping chais on top of each other people thrown in chairs on top of me. that's how i got it broke. >> i was checking my body parts i was okay. so i hit the emergency seat belt. >> some shared pictures on social media to so what it was like on the train. it was disrupted in the northeast corridor.

derailment. the focus this morning, what we are not wrong. >> the only thing i can tell you is the one obvious thing or the one known fact. there is a curve. we have no idea what kind of speed we are talking about, what else happened out there. we are not going to speculate on them. >> what clues do crews need to look for. joining us to weigh in is railroad signal an accident reconstruction expert robert halstead. thank you for joining us this morning. >> good moaning. >> you have investigated over 300 railroad accidents in the last 17 years. from what you have heard so far we have had all of these passenger comments to come in first hand what they experienced. what do you think happened? >> well the forensic analysis portion is only now beginning to unearth. the

the event recorders will be located. there will be two of them on the train one on the front and one on the back. investigators are going to locate those and try to download the data from them. there's also a good likelihood this train was video equipped. if so they are going to pursue it and download the video footage. the signal system has event recorders they are going to be particularly interested in the last signal that this train passed prior. they are going to see what signal indication was displayed to the engineer determine first if that indication was proper and determine whether or not the engineer complied with the signal. >> they should be able to reconstruction the combination of colors displayed and they would tell whether it was mechanical error or engineer error and by that you mean the color p on the signals?
