9:00 pm
. breaking tonight . breaking tonight blam g raid in syria killing a senior isis commander. hello, and welcome to "justice." thanks for being with us. defense secretary ashton carter announced the raid that killd the oil and financial operation, u.s. forces also captured his wife. my exclusive with a former commander of the elite delta force in just a few moments. but, first, a fox news correspondent with the latest.
9:01 pm
. >> some members of the commando force were fighting in hand-to-hand combat where islamic mill tants were told. they went in from black hawks into syria. they approached a multistory building. guards started shooting at them. started using civilians as human shields. fox has learned that the u.s. teams separated women and k4ir7b. killed 11 other guards. a amtured wife, took laptops, phones and files for intelligence purposes and left. here's what defense secretary ash carter said about the reign. last night, at the direction of the commander in chief, i ordered u.s. special operations forces to conduct an operation in ala mir in eastern syria to capture an isil senior leader and his wife. abu was involved in isil's
9:02 pm
military operation and help ed direct e direct the organization. they also found archaeological relics such as an arksz syrian bible: the obama administration says it hopes to reunite her with her family as soon as possible. judge? >> thanks, molly. with me now, retired lieutenant and former commander of the elite delta force, jerry boyken. >> good evening, judge. >> all right. how significant a target is he? >> well, i think there's a lot more to this than meets the eye. apparently, a very high price was put on the sbel jenls value. i think that there was no question that the human sbel jenls told them that there was an awful lot of valuable information in his home there
9:03 pm
where they had hit him. >> and the fact that they chose to use boots on the ground in a very dangerous area at the border passed iraq and into syria, what does that tell you? >> first of all, kudos to the administration for aut rising this operation. it would bold and audacious. secondly, give credit to the sbel community that found this target. and finally, to the delta boys who pulled off what i think is probably a textbook operation. now, what i think this means among other things is the fact that isis can no longer consider that they have a secure rear area. stop and think about it. they're pushing forward in ramadi, but now, all of the sudden, they've got people attacking their senior leaders in their rear area. they're going to have to think what they're doing in ramadi and the rest of iraq. i think this is very significant in terms of changing their thinking and maybe changing their whole strategy.
9:04 pm
>> not only them, in terms of our thinking and our strategy, the fact that we actually did put boots on the ground, that's kind of different from what we've been doing in the past. >> it is. and i must tell you that the special operations command pushed hard for this operation. they knew the sbel was good. these people fly under the radar most of the time. but this is -- this has a human -- i mean, a huge psychological impact on isis who, again, has considered syria was their exclusive domain. and now we're taking out targets with ground forces. it's going to force them to rethink their strategy. >>. >> not a lot is known about him. we have bounties on some of the leaders in isis. why haven't we heard about this
9:05 pm
guy if he's so important? >>. >> he is considered a high-value target. why not just keep it very quiet until we're ready to pull the trigger on it. i think that's part of why we never heard a lot about imin the open media. >> the wife was captured. is she a high-value target? >> i think she's a very high-value target. you know, we lost the value of interrogation of abu zaev himself. but i think the wife is going to be a treasure-trove of information. and what is just beginning to unfold is her involvement in the slave trade and the sex trafficking. it's making big money for isis.
9:06 pm
i think she's going to provide a lot of valuable information. >> now, what makes us think that she will talk to us? by the way, who is she talking to? what are the rules? does ae iraq have her how does this work? >> i am quite sure that iraq is putting great pressure on the central command right now to turn her over. but i can assure you, she's in the hands of u.s. interrogators right now. and she will talk. eventually, she will talk. >> then why are you -- how are you convinced? >> because she is -- it is very unlikely that she's had any kind of training or preparation for how to resist interrogation. and what's going to happen is they're going to have her so confused, she'll be confused as to where she is, who's controlling her. ultimately, she'll break just
9:07 pm
from a psychological perspective, she'll break and talk. >> is the success of this mission, even though the person intended to be captured ended up being killed, does that signal -- >> this delta force was created to do this kind of thing. you can't hide. this administration maybe finally starting to break the code on what it's going to take to hurt isis in a way that is going to make them rethink how they're operating. >> all right. general boyken, always good to see you. thanks for being with us. >> thaing. >> and with me 2340u, the author of defining isis, johnny moore. tell me your reaction to the breaking news. >> yeah, i mean, i encouraged by it. i think everyone is that we did
9:08 pm
something on the ground. but being involved with the humanitarian cry sisz, i'm wondering why it took so long. here we are, nearly a year after mozul fell, there were 5,000 that he put on a slate mark. i'm choked up thinking about it. 5,0 0 women put on the slave market, sold as sex slaves. there's one inside this guy's house. >> we had a chance to help. there were 40,000, supposedly. and then they say there were 4,0 0. and then fewer and fewer. but no sense going backwards. sources say that isis tried to use these women and the children as human shields in this attack by the delta force. what do you know about that? >> the fact that they were using
9:09 pm
women and children. the fact that they had ancient artifacts. i mean, this is the most deplorable situation in the entire world. we saw today how strong we are compared to the bosnian conflict. and we're watching these atrocities happen again and again and again. i think we need to be more serious. thank god for what happened today. but let this not be the end of it. >> what we did today, there was one woman who was enslaved. and, in the end, it was really all about him getting the archives, getting the computers hopefully, as the general said, we'll be able to get intelligence and information from her. but the truth is that this wasn't intended to benefit the christians. and how does that make you feel? >> the fact is that we're sort of executing an al-qaida-type strategy.
9:10 pm
it's take out bin laden, you take care of the problem. the fact is that this is a totally different network. i mean, today, the news no one is talking about is significantly advanced. it's the gateway to the entire province. >> well, the reports aren't really clear, but it's my understanding that the isis sflag is over the government building there. so that's pretty clear. >> it's pretty clear. i mean, could it be that isis and the united states are playing a p.r battle today. you want to hear from a village with some language that you didn't speak. you had to become one of these people. but, now, the isis strategy is you sit in the privacy of your own home. you look on youtube or online and speak your own language.
9:11 pm
>> so what you're saying is if you go across the street, you can talk business on the internet. >> what i'm saying is this is a very, very good thing that happened here today. but it's indicative of the way the united states is trying to analyze this, which is not the way that isis needs to be handled. all the resources that we're spending need -- >> at the bottom level, as well. it's not just the top, it's the bottom. >> it's the day of victory. there's still thousands of people in harm's way and we've got to keep going. >> absolutely. coming up, all eyes on eye want tonight as the gop presidential hopeful speaks chls we're going to take you there next. it's national police week. how can we show our support for them? you're welcome.

welcome back to justice. the race for the gop presidential nomination is heating up. and all the major candidates are in des moines this weekend for the iowa gop's annual lincoln
9:16 pm
day dinner. take a look at some of the high lights. >> we have a lot of barbecues in kentucky. so the guy in front of me has two plates of food and he's heaping up a second plate for ace. i said look, i don't think you're going to live very long eating like that. the guy said well, my grand dad said he lived to be 105. he lived to be 105 by minding his own business. [ laughter ] some of us would like a government that's minding his own business. >> we've been through a civil war. we've been through two world wars. we've been through a great depression. we've made it through jimmy carter, we'll make it through a barack obama. trust me on this. we will. if we fix how we tax, how we
9:17 pm
regulate, embrace the energy revolution that is here instead of trying to push it down, fix a broken immigration system, fix our sbietlement system, this will be the most extraordinary time to be alive. i totally believe that. and i hope that you do, too. ur children and grandchildren are deserving of that very basic promise. >> i'm here to tell you that if i run for president of the united states and i win we're going to leave troops behind in afghanistan because it makes us safer to have troops over there so the war can't come again. everybody talks about radical islam and talks about it being a religious war. if you have any doubt, ask them. they'll kill everybody in this room. we laugh about our religious differences. but they've got three goals, to purify their own religion and kill anybody who disagreeds with them. destroy, kill, maim, krus fie every christian they can get their hands on and destroy the state of israel.
9:18 pm
and they're not going to quit until somebody makes them stop. ladies and gentlemen, if i'm president of the united states, i will make them stop. >> can we have the bill of rights? can we have the fourth amendment? can we protect your right to privacy and still catch terrorists? or must we be so frightened on what our founding fathers fought for in order to catch terrorists. >> every blue collar worker in america ought to be standing up saying i'm voting for republicans because they're going to raise my wages. every one of them. >> fox contributor, david webb. good evening, david. >> good evening to you, judge. squl who do you see as a standout among that gop group? >> probably the guy with the meat because he got all the red
9:19 pm
meat he could want in that room. this is what happens in iowa. this is what was playing out throughout this entire summit. but all of candidates have to look at their path to victory. iowa is a bedrock for many, but it's a perfect state. so now they have to expand beyond that room and beyond the red meat that fits the narrative and how they're going to get these things. they can talk about the issues. they're all important. but they've got to get beyond that room. and as for the standout, i think the standout is the diversity in the field right now. >> come on, give me a name, david. >> look, rand paul sets himself apart as more of a rational libertarian when he gets up there. he slips from time-to-time. you have to look at those that have governed a little bit more.
9:20 pm
i hate to say it, but it's just early and really hard to tell. >> so let's look at jeb bush. announcing when it really wasn't announcing. you know, i hate to say this, but is this guy ready for the mainstream media? is he rusty? what's going on with him. >> see, that's a fair question when it comes to jeb bush. he doesn't wow the people. he's trying to sell substance. strategically, he's trying to go out and see how the long, hot days of summer play out. but he's not stepping out with the energy. he's not capturing the hearts yet. he's got to come out at some point. and he's got to do battle on the main stage.
9:21 pm
he's changing his answers. those are fumbles. >> i don't know if this early on it's going to malter when we come down to june -- late june, july and into the first debate. the question is can he actually get passed this. >> hillary clinton hasn't answered a question from the media in three weeks. she seems to be in better shape than jeb bush who's talking to the media. >> she's in better shape than her competition. when you look at the democratic field, they limit themselves. yes, there's an experience issue. on the other side, you've got hillary clinton who's going nowhere. so the democrats should worry
9:22 pm
what if ill e hillary clinton imploeds. who's next? >> hunl e huge mess this week for abc. really asking tough questions. i mean, hi pock ra sill is staggering. what do these kand cats think their chances are if this is the kind of thing that's going on? >> first of all, here we have one of the biggest voices in mainstream media who doesn't disclose his level of relationship. he had a membership which required a $20,000 fee. it requires involvement. if he's just a journalist, he's not. this is someone who's been a clinton man since the early 90s. they've said they love each other as they continue this love
