suspected of wanting to go to iraq and syria to fight alongside isis. at this hour their names and ages haven't been released and no charges have been filed but their passports have been confisicated. police are keeping quiet on how they nabs the kids. they say the investigation is ongoing. we'll watch the story throughout the morning. a historic recall to tell you about over exploding air bags. nearly 34 million cars are involveicide in this. takata is expanding its recall following growing pressure from the government. there is a chemical that's meant to inflate the air bags. we are told it can explode with too much force. and they're describing it like a grenade. that faulty part is responsible for six deaths and 100 injuries around the world. if you want to find out if you're vehicle is on that list

go running. debbie lee is the mother of mark lee. he was the first navy s.e.a.l. who died in ramadi. she had this observation about how this administration is saying everything is just working out fine. >> first they were saying there was no symbolic if it did fall. then they watched as the comments from general dempsey. now it's falling they're making up excuses. we have blood on that soil. my son's blood is on that soil. so many others have sacrificed greatly for that area. there is -- it just shows that there's things we could be doing differently there. tactics that could be employed that we could make a difference over there. now they're only emblazoned to go further and go into baghdad and take that area. >> the bush years, they adjusted they make mistakes and adjusted. until they got it right. even the generals that didn't get it right, turn around and

the nation now. what about -- and what you're doing you will measure the success of this program by the number of people who realize, wait i don't have any benefits and then they wind up and go out and get a job. what about the people who for, you know circumstances beyond their control, can't work? what are they going to do? >> right. people are eligible to apply for maintenance of those benefits. so we aren't going to kick anybody off who is having a hardship. people who are taking care of a disabled relative or foster kids, those kind of things people who have problems with getting getting child care. they will be able to apply to stay on the program if they need to. >> as you were coming up with this bill you took the pulse of your constituents and people are frustrated would the way welfare works in the country? >> i think people are generally frustrated with the way government works overall from welfare to medicaid to defense.

affected. 34 million cars affected. they're not too hard to find. the problem here is that yes, the air bags work. when they deploy they can deploy with such force that shards of metal can hit the driver and other occupants in the car. let's show you a video of these air bags deploying. they've been trying to figure out why it's happening. they think it may be associated with hot, humid climates. this is part of a nationwide recall. this has been an ongoing feud between the government and takata the company that makes the air bag. >> today i announced that takata has agreed to declare that air bag inflaters are defective. it is recalling these inflaters and this recall is nationwide. >> now here's the problem, you got this one manufacturer of air

20-year-old was shot in the neck through her car window. she was driving on the highway in april when that happened. she has recovered. that shooter is still on to loose. we are told that the fbi has joined in on the case. they're investigating three more car window shootings in the surrounding area from earlier this year. we'll watch the story for you. the va hospital in wisconsin that's been nick named candyland for overprescribing strong pain medications to our veterans claims it has a plan to fix the problem in 30 days. the goals they say include better patient access for veterans listening sessions with employees and promoting better interaction between leadership is staff. not everyone is buying that. a woman whose father died while waiting for care at that hospital last january calls the plan administrative nonsense that doesn't address patient needs. police deal with new threats from the massive biker bloodbath

daughter to suffocate to death. >> so was this plea deal fair to the family of kristin? criminal defense attorney and trial attorney join me for debate on this. that was an emotional moment for the mom. is it fair? >> yes it is. this is a tragic situation. my heart goes out to the mother and family no question about it. but this is fair. this is a decision that the prosecutor has to make. and it's their sole discretion. what the mom is saying we don't agree, approve. we reject it. but the prosecutor is saying it's fair. on this charge he could have been sentenced to up to 20 years. so what they did is they came down in the middle he pled to ten years in state prison which is a lengthy sentence.

it is fair given the exposure of up to 20. >> is that ten years realistic? some saying he could get out as early as five. >> they have sentencing hearing in july. at that hearing the judge will determine whether it's going to be five or ten. what this case speaks to is the lack of voice victims really have. they can't veto a plea bargain, they can't say no, i lost my family member. i want a jury to decide this. you can do that in civil cases. in criminal cases, victims don't have that right. perhaps they should. >> in terms of when you would have a prosecutor overseeing this you said what is fair in his or her mind may not be fair in the victim's family's mind. how do you know you're being dealt a good hand here? >> the family has their own attorney which i'm sure is having the same discussions with them. listen i've been in the situation before. i'm a former homicide prosecutor. and these cases are very tough to prosecute. because you have the intentional crimes the murders, which are a different animal.

>> because of intent? >> because of intent. somebody that intended to kill somebody. versus reckless conduct. this is a reckless case. he did not intend to kill anybody. what he was trying to do was wake up a friend. >> with an alarm clock, that's how you do it. >> or a cell phone. >> true. you have to look at the intent of the individual. there's a mens rea that's required to prove murder. it's similar to somebody getting into a vehicle under the influence or speeding. these are difficult cases for prosecutors because there is no intention to kill. >> okay. >> they have to work within the statutes. >> quickly before we go. >> i think leave it to a jury. let the victim and their family have a voice. great debate here. we appreciate your insight here. intent being the key word. a dream cruise comes to a screeching halt when a ship runs aground in bermuda. we were having dinner and there was about 10 to 15 seconds of shuddering.

into that the war zone again, what do you think? >> look i think we've ran great proxy wars in the past. we've done a lot of good outside of the fray. special forces are great. they can get a lot of stuff down by not engaging directly with the enemy. we do unilateral ops and do them very well. in conjunction with some unilateral and some proxy and force multipliers with special forces. >> right now they have ramadi fallujah and they have mosul. what strategy do you think going forward would get those cities back to the iraqis? >> well it all starts at the top. it all starts are clear leadership at the top, at the top of the u.s. military and the administration. so we need to have a plan there h. we can't fumble and wait for something to happen we need to say this is what we're going to do and stick to that plan. we need resolve. we know special forces on the ground have the resolve to get the job done. we've done it before whether it's okinawa, normandy ramadi.

your vehicle identification number go down to the car and it's generally located here on the dashboard. you can go to the government website, safercars.gov and plug that in. if the website is working, it should be able to tell you if in fact there's a problem. if your car is one of these recalled vehicles get ready to wait. this vehicle belongs to our producer todd. he found out about this because this was in the first wave of recalls, six weeks ago. that part has been on back order for that entire time. now you add to that this whole new wave of vehicles it's going to take a long time to fix the cars. >> i have a quick question for you, are these -- they're going to replace the defective air bag mechanism. but are they putting something in to the cars that is new that also has the same problem? isn't there a problem with the chemical they're using? >> yeah, you know it seems as though they don't know exactly

he's 13 years old. his name is nicholas connors. he captured america's heart across america after performing the national anthem at the houston rockets game when they beat up on the dallas marvevericks. watch.
