9:31 am
dying. what's happening is they understand just like the rest of us when you raise the minimum wage it leads to more unemployment. this isn't rocket science, it's common sense. they don't care about the worker they care about making money. they care about getting money from their members. they want as many mens as possible and they want to make unions basically the cheapest labor. and have more money for themselves. that's what this is all about. >> wayne, you there as well no surprises, l.a.'s very liberal, but within days of getting their law through, by the way, if you're a business and you hire union workers, we want you exempt. >> it's incredible but i think michelle is right. this is all by the union leaders. the union leaders want this because it enhances their power. they're trying to get more members. they're not trying to better the workers plight. they think it will raise the rate from $10 to $15 an hour and then will regulate it that way
9:32 am
because they'll say we'll have an exemption for union members. it's hypocrisy at its worse. >> i remember a couple years ago, the same thing happened with obamacare. they said unions pushed for it. then there was about 200 unions that wanted wavers for obamacare. >> recycle what michelle said there is evidence as well that minimum wage is not going to hurt the economy, it's not going to hurt jobs. i feel like the union should have stuck with that argument or made it clearer sooner. >> they don't believe the argument that's why they're doing this. >> the unions talk about they want a fair market. well a fair market is a free market. employers and employees come to mutually beneficial trade on a job. i think to the panel's point, this whole, oh for the working
9:33 am
man, my tucci. i mean the union's goal here is to hurt nonunion businesses. they can't compete in that free market so they use government guns which is exactly what all these exemptions are, to shut down nonunion businesses. this is chromyism by any other name. >> i feel bad for you and jessica today to have to defend it because it's so it's so blatant, it's hypocrisy. everything we've always said about unions on the right is coming true, front and center. >> i think eric bowling is running this union, they're screwing up so bad. >> what? whoa! >> they are feeding the right wing anger at unions and giving ammunition -- it's unbelievably hypocritical and stupid. i will say somehow they think people won't notice this. it undermines the importance of
9:34 am
unions and the importance of raising the minimum wage. because i think there's no question that it's not going to damage any of the economy and it's a free market i want to remind jonathan -- >> hang on guys. >> -- of young people exploitation of -- >> all right, hold that thought. michelle this is so good why do unions want to get an exemption for themselves? >> because they understand our argument. they don't want to admit it but they know if they raise the minimum wage there's going to be unemployment their workers will be out on the streets. it has nothing to do with -- >> not true. >> it is true. that's why they're doing this. >> that's not true. >> don't talk about -- this whole talk about exploiting young people. given the violence with young people i think a lot of young people could probably -- deserve being exploited by a job. it would probably benefit them. but it doesn't even matter the notion of does it create jobs. it violates rights. an employer has the right to
9:35 am
offer any job they want. the employee the exploited individual has the right to take it. it's up to them. >> let me get wayne in here. wayne -- >> -- big history lesson here about how america has -- and the american middle class has grown as a result -- >> are you going to -- >> let's not do the history of unions in america dating back to the '30s. let me bring it to wayne. it has to pass the city council. how in the world did the city council let this pass especially noting that there was this exemption written into it? we know it was written into it before it actually passed. it wreaks of possible payiola maybe? >> you can count on it. nobody wants this except the union leaders. not the rank and file. it's the leaders who want this. it's power that they want. that's all this is about. it's about a power grab.
9:36 am
and they know this is false. how can you go out and say, gee, i'm for $15 an hour then turn right around and say, oh i want my people to be exemption from that. >> just saying the reason the unions advocate for the higher minimum wage is even though a lot of union members don't make it their salaries are benchmarked to it. >> huge hugely important point there, jonathan. a lot of jobs -- all jobs are benchmarked to the minimum wage union jobs. minimum wage times two. good point. if you think they were hired to protest were paid the minimum wage -- >> i'm not sure about that but going back to what he was saying -- >> nice, nice -- >> on my team here. i wore the right blue. okay so i what i want to say is i think we jumped to far to the 15. i think senate democrats wanted to go to $12 by 2020. over 600 economists signed a

well if you see a stranger lurking around your home don't worry it's probably the epa checking out a puddle on your property. yep, the obama administration finalizing new regulations this week allowing the epa to monitor streams and rivers and wetlands and dare i say it puddles and ditches. what do you say about ditching this epa power grab? >> look at the name of this the waters of the united states rule. it's purposely vague to your point and essentially gives government control over all water as if government owns all the water in the united states. it's going to do whatever it wants lakes and ponds and literally, you know, empty riverbeds or streams on your own property. and the ultimate effectiveness is that costs will go up for everyone when it comes to using the earth and that's what this is all about, preventing industry and mankind from exploiting the earth for its benefit. >> it's clearly an overreach.

government now is done by administration from these agencies and they have their own power. they lobby congress. they do things like that. the thing about the clean water act is all about just giving that agency more power. it has nothing to do with the clean water at all. it has to do with that agency grabbing more power so that they can regulate. >> let me guess, juan if you're against this you're against clean water and air, right? >> i'm glad you said it. that's it. i think all you guys are, like, right wing conspiracy this is a vast right wing conspiraciry. if you like clean water if you know a ditch on a farmer's property is going to be become a repository for all sorts of pollutants you want to -- >> better get a permit for the puddle on the farm. >> property rights already protected. >> tell me why they should be spending my tax money to lobby congress. why should an agency of the united states government who we fund be taking in their budget some of their money to lobby congress tell me that. >> i got to go.
