pharaoh out of the gates first and led the entire race and woundut winning by a couple of lengths to a 90000 crowd here in belmont park. there was a lot of anticipation and talking about what a special horse american pharaoh was. the trainer, bob badford was here throw times and the jockey had ridden to other horses to try for the triple crown. the owner of the horse talked to us about how excited he was and how it would make history and this was a day that his whole family and race fans were hoping for to see it broken and tonight it was american pharaoh wins the belmont stakes and the triple crown. first horse since 1978 to do it. >> amazing stuff. i can't imagine the vibe there.

and everybody started screaming and he was ahead, did you feel he was going to win? >> reporter: we did. certainly he came out of the gates ahead and he did that in the last couple of races, he looked got and never faltered. they had talked to us about how strong and healthy this horse was. it was his fifth race and he now here from louisville. and many of the horses didn't run a kentucky or in baltimore, and they rain today much fresher than american pharaoh. this is a strong horse and ruins fluididy and did not disappoints. there was a lot of people hoping for a longer shot and that taylor bird would make people money. but instead american pharaoh won
