yesterday. governor cuomo is certainly vigilant as well as vermont's governor. you can see behind me, this is the clinton correctional facility. there's still a heavy police presence behind me. and the community is without a doubt on edge. the school district has decided to close classes today for the first time since escaped killers left this prison over the weekend. escaped using those power tools. now, police here are refocusing on an area. we've got a map we can show you. an eight-mile stretch of roadway they've already searched, already combed through. they're refocusing on that area. that road is now shut down. on our drive in from new york city, we went through multiple police checkpoints. you see with law enforcement there, rifles on the ready. police have expanded their search east after learning richard matt and david sweat had recently spoke about vermont. a relative of richard matt is warning the fugitive won't go down without a fight and says he

knows how to survive on the run. he says he's a thief, conman and any woman that comes across them, he'll try to get anything he wants. >> we need to find these escapees. they are dangerous men. they are killers. they are murderers. there's no reason to believe they wouldn't do it again. they'll be more desperate than ever. >> reporter: well, all this as we're learning more about the prison worker accused of helping them escape. now offered an apology through his attorney to explain, look, he was stressed out before he got there. he had just consoled a grieving wid doef a man who shot himself in the head in front of his kids. and helped photograph his body. then he calmed down a teenage girl who threatened to jump off a parent's roof. it took a toll on him before he got there, so says his attorney. >> that's right. she said with all that happened that day, he allowed his emotions to get the better of him. that was his direct quote. his family receiving death threats. >> you see before he went out on this cool, the officer was talking about what he did. he tried to console a parent about a suicide and also with the young girl, tried to help out. also talking about -- >> there is a moment in this video where you look back where one of a fellow officer put his hand on his shoulder, saying,

supplied them with the power tools she used to pull off their daring escape and even offered to pick up the fugitives, only to change her mind at the very last minute. so, what was this wife and mother thinking? we're going to try to get inside her mind right now with criminal profiler pat brown, who joins us now. pat, thanks for being here. walk us through the profile of the type of woman or mind set that would assist someone. one shot 15 rounds into a deputy, the other dismembered somebody. she's helping them escaped. what's going on in her head? >> we have to get rid of the concept she's innocent. >> if she committed -- >> if she did, it's a crime. when we hear of a woman doing this, we say, oh, she must have fallen in love or he must have manipulated her, as if she had no mind of her own. if a man had committed an act like this, we would say he's an accessory, correct? he committed a crime. she knew who these men were. she was aware of their criminal

background. so, she chose to do this, if indeed she did. then, she had reasons to do it. the same reasons these men committed these crimes. they do it for the power, the thrill, to have something in their lives that's important and exciting. that would be my guess. you know, she might have a personality like a narcissistic personality disorder, someone who needs attention desperately, so when guys give attention, she will -- she'll eat it up. she still made the choice. she made that choice, if she did it, over her husband and her son and her freedom. >> and if she did it, it could be an unbelievably dangerous one if these two men decide to do again what they did in the first place. >> right. and she let them out. if she's involved, she let these people out into the community to commit more crimes. if she committed this crime, we shouldn't just wash it away saying she was in love. she committed a crime to put dangerous people out in the

community. they have nothing to lose. they could become spree killers. god knows what they can do. that's why it's so dangerous. they have to catch them as quickly as possible. >> is this common in prison between someone who's working there and someone who is being held there for a crime? >> i wouldn't say it's common. but the fact is that people who work in prisons aren't necessarily free from personality disorders and free from criminal thinking themselves. i mean, most of them aren't, but that doesn't mean there aren't some that are that way. if you have some among the guards in the prison, they could decide to hook up with somebody and do something. we've seen this before, women trying to spring men out of prison. it's not unusual. >> it's true. a most dangerous move on her part if it's true. pat brown, thank you. >> thanks. still ahead, they are discussing and beyond disrespectful and one vietnam veteran decided he had enough with the westboro baptist

today, it still holds up. the executive producer steven spielberg and the idea is you have 22 years after the events of the first movie. the island is now a fully functioning theme park with dinosaurs. thousands of people are going there a day. they createybrid dawn sainosaura t-rex mixed with something else i won't give away, and it escapes in the park. on the positive side of things, i thought the effects were good and i thought bryce did a good job. here's the thing, though, the '93 movie was so game-changing that those effects look better than the effects in this movie. back in '93 when the t-rex attacks a jeep, that's a 9,000 pound fully robotic t-rex. to me the effects looked better back then. on the negative side, i wish chris pratt's character was more

philadelphia? anna is live outside the clinton prison in upstate new york. anna? >> reporter: we have been working on the phones trying to talk to police officers. in philadelphia, they say a cab driver believes he picked up the two escaped killers from the clinton correctional facile isty behind me at 4:0 a.m. this morning at the corner of broad and vine streets if you're familiar with the philly area. he dropped them off at 30th station and then picked up another fare and took that fare to the airport. it took the airport driver a bit of time to call police. they're saying this is preliminary. they're doing due diligence looking through video recordings. also want to mention cops have expanded their search after the two killers who escaped using power tools apparently had been speaking about the state of

the search spans three states. good morning to you anna. >> reporter: this man hunt expands. it has not slowed the police action we've noticed along the clinton correctional facility. we're at one of the many police check points. in philly, a cab driver believes he picked up the two escaped convicts. he says he took them to the 30th street station, main train station with outgoing trains. he didn't call 911. instead he picked up another passenger at 30th street. it wasn't until after that the cab driver decided to call police. that's one of many questions this morning, why didn't he call police immediately. philly police say to certainly

she had a restraining order and security cameras but her life was taken from a bitter ex boyfriend that came to her house and stabbed her many times until she died. new jersey's 30 day waiting period had passed. did the state's gun laws play a role in her death? >> unfortunately carol decided to obey the law and paid with her life. she was in a relationship with a man named michael itell who had history of kidnapping and assault, had been in prison. took out an order of protection against him because she feared for her life. then on april of this year, went to her local police department and filled out an application to become a firearms

purchaser. in some states you have to fill out this application in order to walk into a firearms store to purchase a weapon. if you haven't been approved, you can't go in. unlike a lot of other states you go in, quick check, pass or don't, walk in or don't with a firearm. so she died in a stabbing, brutal stabbing from this guy waiting for the state of new jersey and will local police to approve the application to purchase the handgun. >> for protection, just two days before she had gone to the police department to check on the status. the lingering application. it could have saved her life in this case. >> without question, it could have saved her life. editorials said you can't speculate on that and what if. here's a person who was lawfully going about her business but
