tv   Outnumbered  FOX News  June 15, 2015 9:00am-10:01am PDT

9:00 am
>> "outnumbered" starts now. we will see you back in an hour. >> this is "outnumbered." happy monday. i am harris faulkner andrea tantaros is here with us melissa francis and jedediah is here and today's oneluckyguy is scott brown.
9:01 am
>> melissa and i outnumbered now because you three love mondays. i am changing my vote. >> that is fine. i am comfortable with that. >> let's rock and roll. politics atop the hour. the crowded republican field is about to get bigger with former florida jeb bush set to make the white house run official at 3 p.m. eastern in miami. it was announced six months ago he is exploring the idea. he just wrapped up a tour of europe and focused on russia. when asked how he is expected to break away from the gop pac he believes things will change once he goes from considering to run to asking for a vote. >> the transition will allow me
9:02 am
to be direct about my advocating and leadership skills needed to fix things. as a candidate contrary to someone listening and learning i will offer up alternatives to the path we are on and be more specific on policy. >> we are expecting that in about three hours. we have a former senator on the couch. talk to us about what we will likely see. >> i think it is appropriate he will be more directly questioned my by the media and people on the campaign trail. he spent time raising money to get his house in order. i love the republicans are saying this is shaking it up. he is not doing a reset like hillary clinton who did two months later. he will be formable. he can raise money. he is the -- the base of the gop
9:03 am
is going to be drawn to him. you have walk, bush and rubio top three and then christie, huckabee and rand paul on the next tier. it is early. >> it is interesting you say it is early because everybody isare getting in early so this is late. >> he needs to focus on being direct with people and answering the questions directly unlike hillary clinton has been doing. >> we will talk about her more later. meanwhile andrea, does he pull away from his family name? we are expected to see barbara bush at the announcement. >> i don't think he can. we know the media is not going to let him. they asked numerous questions
9:04 am
but haven't asked hillary clinton about her husband. i don't think jeb can run from the bush's name but i would not discourage him from putting his name separate from the positions. brit hume said something this morning saying i think gop need to give him a hearing and an open mind. i disagree senator brown, i think a lot of people in the republican primary have a strong opinion against jeb bush and i see the crowded field because he is formable comes
9:05 am
9:06 am
common core and we tried to do the math to go together and you have the educate me. >> jeb bush should try that. >> talk about that and whether that comes into play. >> i think it comes into play in a big way. i don't think you can be a limited government advocate and advocate for common core. when gop primary voters talk about bush the first thing is common core and the second is name. they don't trust if you have a bush versus clinton run, and all of these points melissa is making is great but bush versus clint people's mind travel to the clinton years which many were happy and their minds travel back to the bush years and many were not happy. >> you are challengeing him on
9:07 am
common core. he was the first in the nation to try to go to a voucher system. he expanded charter schools. >> that is great. and people will say if he is for choice and opportunity he should not be backing call common core because that whips all of the opportunity and choice from the classroom. >> you are doing what this campaign is hoping people will do. you are talking about him. there you go. when he makes the news later this afternoon fox news will have that live. it was a slow roll to the long awaited official announcement to hillary clinton. but did the big event live up to expectation as far as supporters? we will ask why her campaign is denying polls are showing people have a trust deficit and an issue when it comes to trusting hillary clinton. and laying off good employees
9:08 am
for economic reasons can get sticky so why is some company saying they should not say the word fire when they lower the boom. speaking of boom. it is going to be like dineimate on the web. sign in on facebook or twitter and chime in. we will be right here. benny's the oldest dog in the shelter. he needed help all day so i adopted him. when my back pain flared up, we both felt it. i tried tylenol but it was 6 pills a day. with aleve it's just two pills, all day. now i'm back! aleve. all day strong. i've lived my whole life here in fairbanks, alaska. i love the outdoors, spending time with my family.

9:12 am
welcome back to "outnumbered." hillary clinton's campaign team hitting the sunday talk shows hard the day after her big event in new york. her campaign manager fielding this question about the polling. >> the voters in the polls have shown voters do not trust her. how does she overcome that? >> no poll is showing her honest. but the central question in the race is if voters can trust hillary clinton to be a fire and go to bat for them and the answer for that is overwhelmingly yes. >> not
9:13 am
9:14 am
her time in the state department or foreign policy. i wonder why. >> and then when she did, you know, after the fact interviews, she hopped a plane and drove all that way with wings on the van, they got to iowa and did two sit down interviews but wasn't asked about the foundation or the separate questions with the reporters. one from the des moines trade deal. i want to press with the
9:15 am
polling. the washington post abc polling and cnn polling talked to everybody. but we talked specifically with democratic voters and 31% of them, a third of them, say she has a trust issue. >> yeah that is a big issue for her. it is not just trust but it is likeability as well. i think she is facing two giant hurdles. when one do you think is the biggest issue to overcome? is it trust? people know she is a shady lady by now. >> i think people know who she is and people distrust her. the question is does it matter? do voters sit and say all paul tig -- politicians are like that and let's pick the best of the litter. have they given up on politicians in general? the numbers in polling are horrible. so i am wondering if the key is they don't trust any politician. >> we don't like her.
9:16 am
we are going to bernie sanders. >> i want to ask her about her speech where she seemed to channel elizabeth warren and one she brought up i thought wow, was wealth. >> of course that language popped out she said this isn't a democracy for hedge fund managers and billionaires. she didn't say millions. she and bill are only quarter millionaires now. she really tried to sound like the front of the papers having her up as robin hood. with the move to the left now and wink wing -- wink move to the center later. bill clinton said what is on the mind of people lobby state and
9:17 am
giving money and he said how can i know what people are thinking and that reminded me of the old clinton's. they parse their words. >> i never saw her look through the donor list. >> meanwhile, the area behind clinton's speech looked jam packed and video showing her at the center of what appeared to be a very excited crowd. her campaign team even careful to tweet this photo of a seemingly tact crowd attending the kickoff. look at that area off to the side. it tells a different story. clinton's camp had had initially sectioned had off to serve as the overflow area for additional supporters but apparently there was no need. even msnbc pointing out crowd was excited but not overwhelmed
9:18 am
and not exactly, as judy miller pointed out, the obama coalition. >> she is worried voters on the left will stay home. we talked about that and i argue that would be the same if we had a jeb bush but she is worried she can not galvanize people like obama did. we were talking about young people who were not voting in those numbers. and he did have a diversity of people. all people of ages and races were in the audience. i think she is going to have a hard time with that people people are not drawn to her. look at bernie sanders rally. people are more excited about him than hillary clinton. >> in the senate you look at him like stop spinning -- >> that is harsh.
9:19 am
>> his bed head seems to be working. he had bigger crowds over the weekend. senator is it tough to sort of take hillary clinton as what is obama saying he needs that new car smell? she is on roosevelt island echoing roosevelt and calling the republicans the party of yesterday referencing the beetles song, was it a bit of a stretch for her? >> she hasn't driven in 20 years. when she goes to events like in new hampshire they are all controlled. she is kicking out reporters. they are very focused on getting their message out and not having the ability to look someone in the eye and go to their home or business and have them ask questions. open town hall. she is not doing that. it is controlled and i think it will backfire. >> there is a report that the clinton camp kicked out a record who is the bureau chief for the
9:20 am
daily mail. they say he is not part of the white house pool. but she is so paranoid and controlling doesn't it point to the fact if she can not let everybody in and take questions she really is trying to script everything because she is worried? >> just in the last half hour we saw push back from the clinton campaign. they are responding. kicking a reporter out? you better have a good reason. it is true one of the bench marks we use is who are the key white house press members? those are cleared for each campaign. some beyond that and you seldomly see them fall below that. the clinton campaign is saying no because it doesn't look like he belonged to that group but we will take another look and discuss it and get back to you. wouldn't they know that technicality before and why did they wait so long to fix it?
9:21 am
>> we know why. >> the des moines radio piece she did with local radio but the tough questions from the transcripts i am seeing were asked only about trade none about the clinton foundation. and with regard to the event here in new york did she lose the e-mail that had the list of people she could invite and only got 5500 people to invite? she needed the e-mails to invite people. >> she was a senator in new york and didn't get into that. she promised upstate new york 200,000 jobs and never delivered. to harris' point there is no question on repealing her husband's crime bill or the freedom bill. >> she is not being challenged. a family from our school wandered over to roosevelt
9:22 am
island and they walked in and were stopped when they got off the train and said are you supporters and they said no and they said you don't get a wrist band. this family with two little kids. they said it was so strange and they shuffled off to the side. i guess i could see not letting people who don't support you into your rally but that sums up the whole feeling you have. two kids made it out? who cares how they vote. go get a free hot dog you might like what you hear. >> she is not looking confidant. she is supposed to be this tough, strong woman out there being the first president and she is scared of us. she is scared to sit down with any one of us. she is scared of the gop candidates, scared of tough questions and she is not that tough, strong woman if she can
9:23 am
not sit down with harris faulkner. >> how did she win the position in offices? the victim. she is a professional victim. her husband, remember? president obama was the glass ceiling that stopped her. she is speaking out of both sides of her mouth. she is a strong woman but been a victim. i think one of the republican men on the other side will bully her. >> i think carly fiorina will have the opportunity to do that and really call her out. >> that would be great. >> i think that is going to happen. we have breaking news in a big controversy over an naacp leader accused of lying about her race. this story is bizarre. some asked for her to step down and we know her decision now. we will hash it out next.

the controversy over a washington state civil rights leader. rachel dolezal, the head of the naacp spokane saying on facebook she is resigning her post. she was supposed to answers questions on if she lied about her racial identity at a board meeting. this is after this her parents who are white said she has been pretending to be black for years. the regional director of the naacp was standing behind her saying he represent all civil rights issues regarding the race and the quality of work she has done to elevate the issue of civil rights is applaud. this is unfortunate this is a
9:29 am
conversation with a lot better things are going on in america that should be addressed. senator you have an interesting take on how they got this wrong. >> if she said i am white and put forward she is interested in helping that would be great. but she lied committed fraud, and got caught so i think it is appropriate she be fired or resign and be brought on fraud charges. the naacp wants diversity and if you had someone in the position doing a job and by all accounts doing it right it is a catch-22. she lied though and got the job by false pretense and that is where the issue is for me. >> and they missed the opportunity saying he support her no matter what. >> jedediah one of the members
9:30 am
of the chapter of washington state said this isn't about race but integrity and credibility. >> right. this is such an important and see issue and people need to believe you are who you are and you have integrity and character. i don't care about the color of her skin faking her age, if people can't trust you to speak truth about yourself, how can they trust you to speak about anything else? >> this is ironic. >> she applied for, i guess protection because she was getting threats. and they say they are dropping some of the uh-huh -- harassment cases based threat she is black. >> i want to clear up i am 27 jedediah. >> i thought you were 25?
9:31 am
>> that is right, harris. i am 25. this story is so wild. i definitely don't think she should get death threats. she has passion clearly for the black community and i think she has probably done a lot of work but the credibility issue and lying. and you and i, harris, talked about this. her family coming out, outing her and her brother talking about why she decided to lie about being black, and kevin jackson who runs the black speer says she encountered racism at howard university and didn't like how she was treated at howard university which is a predominantly african-american school she decided to hate white people and rachel makes a fine black liberal don't be mad
9:32 am
at the us be mad at who wronged you. >> we could focus on the race but that is not the issue and we could go down a road that is not helpful in this situation. this chapter needs someone to run it. if they handled this properly and she had not lied -- >> she had such a long history in the case of lying. it is not like she said it for this job. it has been many applications, it has been accepting a scholarship at school if you pretend to be any color for personal or financial gain that is fraud and lying and that is what the issue is about. i thought it was amazing her parents said of all her faults this was the worst. this isn't just a one-time thing. this is a whole field events. her brother said in reports she asked them to lie for her.
9:33 am
this has been going on for a long time. >> she threatened her brother and said don't out me. >> time for counseling. >> two things from this. her family members when you watch the interviews because they are on a media blitz, they say they haven't communicated much with her in years. and the statement she made isn't accepting responsibility just saying she doesn't want to be a distraction. >> people care about this story and deceit and it bothers them she lied. but when we talk about politicians we could talk about deceit for days and somehow it doesn't make them as angry. we are talking about hillary deceit upon deceit. does this feel more personal? does it bring in the point we don't trust politicians?
9:34 am
>> look at hillary clinton. she is 1/100th of an 8th native american? >> she is not native american at all. >> that hurt her? >> the boston globe said as long as she feels native-american it is okay. >> so if rachel feels african-american it is okay to use the box? >> that is what it is on twitter. it is the same as say a caitlyn jenner? am i allowed to feel black today? >> she didn't lie, though. >> the question is when you have these feelings -- >> i am raising biracial children and i can tell you they identify with both mommy and daddy and i don't look like my husband. >> you are better looking.
9:35 am
>> he is taller. but i guess this is something i never thought about. is there transition where you lean toward one more than the other? >> there is no portion of african-american in her blood. it is total fraud. total fraud. >> the question is you can get up one day and check off any box. >> do away with the boxes. >> let's feed the machine. mean time to be or not to be? the furious debate after a veteran high school teacher says she skips all of the shakespeare stuff because she believes well it doesn't speak to today's students. the intention reaction her remarks have stirred up.

today would be to dismiss every piece of history and everything that wasn't written in whatever time is defined as now. senator you are passionate about this topic. is shakespeare outdated? or is this is a classic that should be treasured and studied? >> of course it should be studied and treasured. how about the declaration of independence and the first amendment? of course we need to study these and weave in the new ones >> she talks about students wanting to study other things

like the african spoken word and good do those. >> african spoken word? >> i am saying it wrong but asian oral tradition as well. good go ahead. but i can what transcends time and race more than romeo and juliet. it is two groups who can't get along and two people fall in love. >> even though the language is different, the themes transcend. people can talk about love and be betrayal and they can make for good discussions. >> i had a professor say every love story you see is based on something you saw in shakes spear. those story lines were so strong they permate everything we see on the big and little screens.

you will raise kids to be ig ignorant. >> i think most teachers would hate the idea of censoring old text. you start with every text post-1990? you will talk only about things that are current and those things are based upon things that happened already. i don't think teachers would like this. >> i agree. you are a former teacher and i would be interested to know what you think about it. i loved learning about shakespeare and ancient greek history. i think the ideas transcend and the writers were genius. it seems like this teacher wants to go against tradition. i bet a lot of liberal
