8:00 am
no small coincidence it can coming from the lobby where the show is filmed. >> i will put you down for candidate? >> i will be watching. as well as a lot of other folks. we are moments away from an announcement from donald trump. i am jon scott. >> and i am heather childers in for jenna lee. the billionaire business man and host of the aprentice is going to announce if he is going to run. this is where donald is set to take the stage shortly and with him anything is possible. >> let's check in with the editor of the hill. donald trump has toyed with the
8:01 am
idea of running for president in the past. he has never pulled the trigger. it appears this time he is going to formally enter the race? >> reporter: well it is so hard to predict what donald trump is going to do. he said he is looking at it more seriously than ever doing before. he has the tv show that was renewed for another season. and he cannot do both. this announcement could be he is going to explore it he could jump in or least likely to say i am not going to get in whatsoever. with donald trump it is hard to predict. >> filming for the program won't start until the fall. he could test the waters i suppose for a time see how he does and decide what to do about whether to be on the show or not at that point. >> reporter: absolutely. and let's say he announces a bid
8:02 am
and sees how the poll numbers go. he would get into the debate. he equalifies as far as the top 10 had republican network set. he would get in the debate now and if he formally launches now he would definitely get into the debate and that has some republicans worried. he could be a side show the other republicans on stage would bicker and fight with him. some republicans are a bit nervous about the announcement this morning. >> stick with us bob. eric sean is at the scene and his daughter is on stage about to introduce her. what is going on? >> she has been talking about her father of rebuilding new york and the different projects he has been involved in employing tens of thousands of people and all indications here
8:03 am
that donald trump does want to be president or announce he will make the run when he steps out here on the podium a few minutes ago. we are told he is expected to go to new hampshire tomorrow. he has a committee looking into this and running on the theme of making america great again. he is critical of president obama and the politicians in washington saying america needs to have bold independent with a proven track record and talking about rebuilding the infrastructure of the country and likened the country to a third world nation and wants to rebuild infrastructure and build a wall in mexico in terms of dealing with the immigration system. and bob is talking about the poll numbers. he is at 3.6 and number nine right now so he would be in the debate. he is just behind chris christie
8:04 am
and just ahead of texas governor rick perry. here comes donald trump expected to announce he is making a run for the white house. let's listen. >> my father donald j trump. ♪ ♪ >> rocking the free world by neil young -- that is apparently the campaign song whether he authorized it or not.
8:05 am
we await donald trump his daughter introduced him he is not on stage yet but should be in a moment. we expect he will join the race. he toyed with the idea of running again. four years ago, suggested he would be a candidate and ultimately decided not to run. if he announces he is running today he joins a crowded republican field and has four sitting governors, four sitting republican senators and three former governors. he comes in with his business experience. bob, if you are able to hear me who does that hurt the most? i presume the carly fiorina's and perhaps ben carson? those who have joined the place not having held prior political office. >> reporter: yeah i think there is no doubt about it donald trump is going to be a big
8:06 am
personality if he does get into the race. he is going to claim the business mantle which could hurt carly fiorina. i think it depends on how he does in this launch i think it depends on how he does in the debate. it is going to be a big test for him. he certainly is not shy. he is going to challenge everybody ranging from the also lands whether that is rick perry or carly fiorina to the frontrunners like jeb bush. he is outspoken and i am sure a lot of democrats want donald trump to run because it will be a circus atmosphere if he gets in. >> as we continue to listen to neil young keep on rocking in the free world and wait for donald trump to come down it appears several levels on the escalator there in trump tower in new york city.
8:07 am
there he is. a couple kisses on the cheek for his daughter and donald trump is about to make an announcement. what it is? we don't know. >> that is some group of people. thousands. so nice. thank you very much. that is really nice. thank you. it is great to be at trump tower it is great to be in a wonderful city new york and it is an honor to have everybody here. this is beyond anybody's expectations. there has been no crowd, and i can tell you some of the candidates went in and didn't know the air conditioner worked and sweated they didn't know the room was too big because they didn't have anybody there. how are they going to beat isis? i don't think it will happen. our country is in serious trouble. we don't have victories anymore. we used to have victories. but we don't have them.
8:08 am
when was the last time anybody saw us beating let's say china in a trade deal. i beat china all of the time. all of the time. when did we beat japan at anything? they send their cars over by the millions and what do we do? when was the last time you saw a chevrolet in tokyo? it doesn't exist, folks. they beat us all of the time. when do we beat mexico at the border? they are laughing at us. the united states has become a
8:09 am
dumping ground for everybody else's problems. [applause] >> it is true. and these are the best and the finest. when mexico sends its people they are not sending their best. they are not sending you and you. they are sending people that have lots of problems and they are bringing those problems with them. they are bringing drugs they are bringing crime they are rapist and some i assume are good people but i speak to border guards and they tell us what we are getting. it only makes common sense. they are sending us not the right people. it is coming from more than mexico. it is coming from all over south and latin america and it is coming probably from the middle east. but we don't know because we have no protection and no comp
8:10 am
competence. we don't know what is happening. it has to stop. it has to stop fast. islamic terrorism is eating up large portions of the middle east. they have become rich. i am in competition with them. they just built a hotel in syria. can you believe this? they built a hotel. when i have to build a hotel, i pay interest. they don't have to pay interest because they took the oil that when he left iraq i said we should have taken. so now isis as the oil. -- has -- and what they don't have iran has. and in 19 -- and i will tell you this and i said it very strongly -- 19 years ago i said i love the military and i want to have the strongest military
8:11 am
we have ever had and we need it more now than ever but i said don't pit iraq because you will totally destables the middle east. iran will take over the middle east and it turns out iran is taking over iraq. think of it. iran is taking over iraq. and they are taking it over bigly. we spent $2 trillion in iraq. $2 trillion. we lost thousands of lives, thousands, in iraq. we have wounded soldiers who i love -- i love they are great -- all over the place. and we have nothing, we can't even go there. we have nothing. and every time we give iraq equipment the first time a bullet goes off in the air they
8:12 am
leave it. last week i read 2,300 hum-v's were left behind. 2,300 sophisticated vehicles they ran and the enemy took them. [applause] >> our gross domestic product, a sign of strength but not for us. it was below 0. whoever heard of this.
8:13 am
horrible participation rate and our real unemployment is anywhere from 8-10 percent. don't believe the 5.6 percent. a lot of people up there can't get jobs because there are no jobs. china has our jobs and mexico and they have all have a job. but the real number is anywhere from 18 to 19 and maybe 21 percent and no body talks about it. because it is a statistic that is full of non-sense. [applause] >> our enemies are getting stronger and stronger by the day. and we as a country are getting weaker. even our nuclear arsenal doesn't
8:14 am
work. it came out recently they have equipment that is 30 years old and they don't know if it works. i thought it was horrible when it was broadcast on television because boy does that send signals to putin and all of the other people that looked at us and they say that is a group of people and a nation that truly has no clue they don't know what they are doing. we have a disaster called the big lie. obamacare. obamacare. yesterday it came out that cost are going for people up to 29 39, 49 and even 55 percent. and deductibles are through the roof. you have to get hit by a
8:15 am
tractor, literally a tractor, to use it because the deductibles are so high it is virtually useless. it is a disaster. and remember the $5 billion website. to this day, it doesn't work, it $5 billion website. i have so many websites i have all over the place. i hire people to do a website and it cost be $3. $5 billion website! you need somebody because politicians are all talk and no action. nothing is going to get done. they will not bring us believe me to the promise land.
8:16 am
they will not. as an example, i have been on the circuit making speeches and i hear my fellow republicans and they are wonderful people i like them, they all want me to support them they don't know how to bring it about they come up with my office -- i am meeting with three of them -- and they don't know are you running? are you not running? can we have your support? what do we do? how do we do it? i like them. and i hear their speech and they don't talk jobs or china. china is devalueing their currency it a level that is making it impossible to compete. they are killing us. but you don't hear that from anybody else. you don't hear it from anybody else. i watch the speeches -- thank you. i watch the speeches of these
8:17 am
people and they say the sun will rise, the moon will set, all sorts of wonderful things will happen and people are saying what is going
8:18 am
ants than patients now. my paint -- patients are beside themselves themselves. we have to repeal obamacare and replace it with something that benefits everybody. something that is much less expensive for the people and the government. we can do it. so, i have watched the politician politicians i have dealt with them all of my life, if you cannot make a good deal with a politician, then there is something wrong with you and you are certainly not very good.
8:19 am
that is what we have representing us. they will never make america great again. they don't even have a chance. their controlled, fully by the lobbyist, by the donors, and by the special interest. i have lobbyist that can produce anything for me. they are great. but you know what? it will not happen. because we have to stop doing things for some people but for this country it is destroying our country. we have to stop. it has to stop now. our country needs a truly great leader. and we need a truly great leader
8:20 am
now. we need a leader that wrote the art of the deal. we need a leader that can bring back our jobs. can bring back your manufacturing and military and can take care of our vets. our vets have been abandoned. and we also need a cheerleader. you know when president obama was elected i said well the one thing i think he will be a great cheerlead for the country. i really thought he would be a great cheerleader. >> he is not a leader! >> he is not a leader that is true. you are right. but he wasn't a cheerleader. he has been a negative force.
8:21 am
he was the opposite of a cheerleader. we need somebody that can take the brand of the united states and make it great again. it is not great again. we need somebody that literally will take this country and make it great again. we can do that and i will tell you you, my kids are saying dad you are going to do something that is going to be so tough. all of my life, i have heard a really successful person and even modestly successful, cannot run for public office.
8:22 am
just can't happen. and that is the kind of mindset that you need to make this country again. so ladies and gentlemen i am officially running for president of the united states and make our country great again. it can happen. our country has potential. we have tremendous people. we are people that are not working. we have people with no incentive to work. but they will have incentive to work because the greatest social
8:23 am
program is a job. they will be proud, they will love it and make much more money they would have ever made and they will be doing so well and they will be thriving as a country. thriving. it can happen. i will be the greatest job's president that god every created. i tell you that. i will bring back our jobs from china, mexico and other places. i will bring back jobs and our money. right now think of this. we owe china $1.3 trillion dollars. we owe japan more than that. so they come in take our jobs take our money and loan us back the money and we pay them in
8:24 am
interest and the dollar goes up so the deal is even better. how stupid are our leaders and paulolitician politicians to allow this to happen? how stupid are they? i will tell you a couple stories about trade. i am totally against trade for a number of reasons. the people negotiating it doesn't have a clue. our president doesn't have a clue. he did bowe bergdahl. we got bergdahl a trader, and they get five terrorist they wanted. we get a no-good trader and they get the five people they wanted for years and those people are back on the battlefield trying
8:25 am
to kill us. take a look at the deal we are making are iran. if he makes that deal israel maybe won't exist very long. we have to protect israel. [applause] >> i am a free trader. but the problem with free trade is you need really talented people to negotiate for you. if you don't have talented people if you don't have great leadership, if you don't have people that know business, not just political hacks that got the business because he got the job for making a political contribution to a campaign which is how about all jobs are gotten, free trade is terrible. free trade can be wonderful if you have smart people. but we have people that are stupid and not smart and we have people controlled by special interest and it is not going to
8:26 am
work. here is a couple stories that happened recently. a friend of mine is a great manufacturer. china comes over, dumping their stuff i buy it because i have an obligation to buy it because they devalue their currency so brilliantly. they just did it recently. with all of the problemwises with russia and everything they got away with it again. it is impossible for our people here to compete. i want to tell you the story. a friend of mine is a great manufacturer and calls me up a few weeks ago and he is very upset. i said what is your problem? and he said i make great product and i said i know that. he said i cannot get it into china they will not accept it i sent a vote over and they will not accept it. they talked about environmental
8:27 am
and other crap that has nothing to do with this. i said that is terrible. does anyone know? and he said yeah, they do it all of the time. i got it over there and they charged me a tariff. they charge a tariff on trucks and other things. ask bowing they wanted bowing's secrets before agreeing to buy planes from bowing. i just sold on apartment for $15 million to somebody from china. am i supposed to dislike them? i own a big chunk of the bank of america building at 1290 avenue of the americas that i got from china in a war. very valuable. the biggest bank in the world is
8:28 am
from china. their head quarters are located in the building. in trump tower. i love china. but their leaders are much smarter than our leaders and we cannot sustain ourselves with that. it is like take the patriots and tom brady and have them play our high school football team. that is the difference between china's leaders and our leaders. we are rebuilding china. you go to china now, roads bridges, schools and you never saw anything like it. they have bridges that make the george washington bridge look like small potatoes and they are all over the place. we have all of the cards but don't know how to use them. we don't even know we have the cards because our leaders don't understand the game. we could turn off the spigot by
8:29 am
charging them tax until they behave properly. now they are going militarily. they are building a military island in the middle of the south china sea. a military island! our country could never do that because we need environmental clearance and the environmentalist would never let us. they built it in one year. this massive military port. they are building up their military to a point that is very scary. you have a problem with isis you have a bigger problem with china and in my opinion the new china believe it or not in terms of trade is mexico. this man tells me about the manufacturing and i say that is a terrible story. i hate to hear it. i have another one. ford. mexico takes a car company that was going to build in tennessee,
8:30 am
ripped it out, reported in the wall street journal and everybody thought it was a done deal. it is going in and that is going to be it. going into tennessee, great state, great people. all of a sudden at the last moment this big car manufacturer announces they are not going to tennessee they are going to spend their billion in mexico instead. not good. now ford announces a few weeks ago that ford is going to build a $2.5 billion dollar car and truck and parts manufacturing plant in mexico. $2.5 billion. going to be one of the largest in the world. ford. good company. so i announced and one of the early things i would do
8:31 am
probably before getting in and i would not use i know the smartest negotiators in the world, i know the good ones, bad ones and you have a lot that are overrated. thiget -- we will do very, very well folks believe me. i would not waste my time with this one. i would call up the head of ford, who i know if i were president and i would say congratulati congratulations, i understand you are building a $2.5 car manufacturer in mexico and sell them to the united states with zero tax. and how does that help us? how is that good?
8:32 am
it isn't. congratulations is the good news. bad news? every car, truck and part manufactured in this plant that comes across the border we will charge you a 35% tax. okay? and that tax is going to be paid at the same time of the transaction and that is it. here is what is going to happen. if it isn't me in the position it is one of the politicians we are running against, you know the 400 people that were already there. here is what is going to happen. they are not stupid. they will get a call from the donors or the lobbyist for ford and say you can't do that to ford. because ford takes care of me and i take care of you.
8:33 am
under president trump here is what would happen. the head of ford would call me back and i would say within an hour, within telling them the bad news and he could want to be cool and wait until the next day. he will beg for a little while. i will say no interest. and he will call all sorts of political people and i will say no interest because i don't need anybody's money. it is nice. i am using my own money. i am not using the lobbyist, donors, i don't care. i am really rich. i will show you that next time. and by the way i am not even saying that in a bragging way. that is the kind of mindset and thinking you need for this country. because we have to make the cut.
8:34 am
it sounds crass. somebody said oh that is crass. it is not crass. you have $18 trillion in debt. we have nothing but problems. a military that needs equipment all over the place. nuclear weapons that are obsolete. we have nothing. we have social security that is going to be destroyed if someone like me doesn't bring money into the country. all of the other people want to cut it. i am not going to cut it. i am going it bring money in and we will save it. here is what is going to happen. after i am called by 30 friends of mine who contributed to different campaigns all of the special interest and by the donors and the lobbyist, and they have zero chance of convincing me zero i will get a call the next day from the head of ford to say please reconsider and i will say no he will say mr. president we decided to move the plant back
8:35 am
to the united states and we will not build it in mexico city. they have no choice. i will give you another example. saudi arabia they make a $1 billion a day. i love the saudi arabians. many are in this building. they make a billion a day. whenever they have problems we send ships and protect them. they have nothing but money. if the right person asked them they would pay a fortune. they will not be there september except for us. and you looke border with yemen and remember a year ago obama said it was a great victory and two weeks later it was blown up and they kept our equipment. they always keep our equipment.
8:36 am
saudi arabia without us? they are gone. i am the one who made all of the right predictions about iraq. all of the politicians i am running against now -- it is so nice to say i am running as opposed to if i run -- but all of the politicians i am running against are trying to disassociate. it took bush five days to answer the question on iraq. he could not answer. he didn't know. i looked at rubio and he was unable to answer if iraq was a good or bad thing. he didn't know. he could not answer the
8:37 am
question. how are these people going to lead us? how are we going back and making it great again? woe can't. they can't lead us. they cannot answer simple questions. it was terrible. but saudi arabia is in big big trouble. now, thanks to fracking and other things the oil is all over the place. and i used to say it. there are ships at sea and this was during the worst crisis that were loaded up with oil and the cartel kept the price up because, again they were smarter than our leaders. there is so much wealth out there that can make our country so rich again and make it great again, because we need money. we are trying.
8:38 am
ford will come back. they will all come back. and i will say this it is going to be an election in my opinion that is based on competence. somebody said to me the other day a reporter, very nice reporter mr. trump you are not a nice person. >> we don't need nice! >> that is true. but actually i am. i think i am a nice person. does my family like me? i think so. i am proud of my family. by the way, speaking of my family all of you tiffany, vanessa, and jarred, and laura and eric -- i am very proud of my family. they are a great family.
8:39 am
how can you get people to vote for you someone said? i said i think i am a nice person. i give a lot of money away to charities and other things. i think i am a very nice person. but i said this is going to be an election that is based on comp competence. people are tired of the nice people and they are tired of being ripped off by everybody in the world. and they are trying -- tired -- of spending more than any nation in the world per capita and we are 26th in the world. 25 countries are better at us than education. and some are like third world countries. but we are becoming a third world country because of
8:40 am
infrastructure and roads. i said i will do it. a lot of people said you will never run. he will not want to give us his lifestyle. you are right about that. but i am doing it. number two i am a private company so no one knows what i am worth. and one thing is when you run, you have to announce and certify, to all sorts of governmental authorities, your net worth. so i said that is okay. i am proud of my net worth. i started in a small office in brooklyn and queens with my father. and i learned so much sitting at my father's feet playing are blocks and listening to him negotiate with subcontractors. he used to say donald don't go into the manhattan.
8:41 am
that is the big leagues. i said dad, i have to go. i have to build the big buildings. and after four or five years in brooklyn, i ventured into manhattan and did a lot of deals. the grand hyatt hotel, the convention center on the west side. now i am building all over the world. i love what i am doing. but a lot of pundits on television said donald will never run and one of the main reasons is he is private and probably not as successful as everybody thinks. so i said to myself you know, no one is every going to know unless i run because i am proud of my success. i have employed tens of thousands of people over my lifetime. that means medical, educational,
8:42 am
that means everything. so a large accounting firm and my accountants have been working for months because it is big and complex and they put together a statement. a financial statement. this is a summary but everything will be filled eventually with the government and we don't need extensions. we will be filing it on time. we don't need anything. and it was even reported incorrectly yesterday. they said he had assets of $9 billion. that is the wrong number. that is the wrong number. not assets. so they put together this and before i say it i have to say this. i made it the old fashion way. real estate. it is labor and union is good and some bad and lots of people not in union and it is all ovthe place and building all over the
8:43 am
world. -- over the -- and i have assets big accounting firm one of the most highly respected, $9 billion and 240 million dollars. and i have liabilities of about $500 -- that is long term debt very low interest. one of the big banks came to me and said you don't have enough borrowing can we loan you $4 million? i said i don't want it. but in two seconds they would give me whatever i want. i have a total net worth and now with the increase it will be well over $10 billion. but here a total networth of $8 million. after all debt. all of expenses. the greatest assets like the
8:44 am
trump tower, 1290 of americas bank of america building in san francisco 40 wall street sometimes referred to as the trump building. many other places all over the world. so the total is $8,737,500 dollars. i am not doing that to brag. i don't have to believe it or not. i am doing that to say that that is the kind of thinking our country needs. we need that thinking. we have the opposite thinking. we have people selling the
8:45 am
country down the train. if we have another three or four years, we are soon going to be at $20 trillion. according to the economist. $24 trillion is the point of now return. $24 trillion. we will be there soon. that is when we become greece. that is when we become a country that is unsalvageable. we will be there very soon. i would repeal and replace the
8:46 am
big lie obamacare. i would build a great wall and no body builds walls better than me, believe me, and i will build it inexpensively, i will build a great wall on the southern border and i will have mexico pay for that wall. mark my words. no body would be tougher on isis than donald trump. no body. i will find within the military, i will find the general paton or i will find the right guy, the guy that is going to take that military and make it really work no body will be pushing us around. i will stop iran from getting nuclear weapons and we will not be using a man like secretary
8:47 am
john kerry who has absolutely no concept of negotiation who is making a horrible deal and being tapped along as they make weapons now and goes into a bicycle race at 72 years old and falls and breaks his leg. i will not be doing that. and i promise i will never be in a bicycle race. that i can tell you. i will immediately terminate president obama's illegal executive order on immigration. fully support and back up the second amendment. through stupidity in a hard core prison interestingly named clinton two vicious murderers two vicious people escaped and
8:48 am
no body knows where they are. and a woman was on television this morning and she said you know mr. trump she was telling other people and i actually called her, she said you know mr. trump, i always was against guns. i didn't want guns. and now since this happened it is up in the prison area my husband and i are finally in agreement because he wanted to gun. we have a gun on every table. we are ready to start shooting. i said very interesting. so protect the second amendment. end common core. common core is a disaster. bush is totally in favor of common core. i don't see how we can possibly get the nomination. he is weak on immigration and in
8:49 am
favor of common core. how can you vote for this guy? education has to be local. rebuild the country's infrastructure. no body can do that like me. believe me. it will be done on time on budget way below cost and way below what anyone thought. i look at the roads being built all over the country. i say i can build them and what they do is unbelievable how bad. you know we are building on pennsylvania avenue, the old post office is being converted to one of the world's greatest hotels. we got it from the general services administration in washington. the obama administration we got it. it was the most highly sought after, or one of them, but i think the most highly sought after project in the history of general services. we got it. people were shocked trump got
8:50 am
it. i got it for two reasons. we are really good and we had a good plan and i will add in the third. we had a great financial segment because of the general services woo are terrific people and powerful people wanted to do a great job. and they want to make sure it got built. so we have to rebuilt our infrastructure. you come into laguardia airport and it is looks like a third world country. you look at the airport and we are like a third world country. i come in from china and qutar and different place and they have the most incredible airports in the world. you come back here and have lax -- disastrous. we have to rebuild our
8:51 am
infrastructure. save medicaid medicare and social security without cuts. have to do it. get rid of the fraud, get rid of the waste and abuse but save it. people have been paying in for years and many of the candidates want to cut it. you save it by making the united states rich again by taking back all of the money that is being lost. renegotiate our foreign trade deals. >> yes! [applause] >> reduce our $18 trillion in debt because believe me we are in a bubble. we are artificially low interest rates we have have a stock market that is has been good to me but i hate to see what is happening, we have a stock market that is so bloated be careful of the bubble because what you saw in the past might be small potatoes compared to what happens. so be careful. and strengthen our military and
8:52 am
take care of our vets. so so important. >> yeah! [applause] >> sadly the american dream is dead. >> bring it back! >> but if i get elected president i will bring it back bigger and better and stronger than every before and we will make america great again. thank you. thank you very much. thank you. >> donald trump wrapping up the almost hour long talk. he said he will be president and
8:53 am
he said he alone can do many of things he talked about. how he will be received in the other core of gop contenders is interesting to know. donald trump, the business man, the real estate tycoon and self-proclaimed best negotiator says he is running for president. we have been talking with bob cusack from the hill who is joining us. it is official bob he is in. you know he brings obviously a lot to the table including fair amount of hubris but i wonder about staffing. you have to have political operatives to run a campaign. there are a lot out there who have been snapped up by other campaigns. how does donald trump go about building a campaign organization? does he pay more? >> quite possibly. he certainly has the resources.
8:54 am
