we thank you very much. >> now everybody is talking about what it means, you talk about racism. they are also talking about the confederate flag and the role it plays. in the northeast, you don't get up and think what are they doing in south carolina what are their traditions and why are they keeping it alive but i was shocked to see the confederate flag was still flying there. >> interestingly enough the bridge they walked over that bridge is named arthur ravenal bridge after a lawmaker who was a vocal confederate flag sporter, so it's really sparking a debate there. you have joe riley, the mayor of charleston says the confederate flag needs to be removed. politicians are forced into the debate voicing their opinion.

cabin. that could indicate that richard matt and david sweat were in the area we're told within the last few days possibly. in the meantime officers are still out in full force. 300 miles away in southern new york where someone called in a credible sighting of those inmates over the week. we will follow the story throughout the morning and bring you the latest as we get it into our newsroom. another fox news alert right now, breaking overnight, the taliban launching a major attack on the afghan parliament in kabul. take a look. what happened at that moment was a car bomb exploded right at the entrance of that building. that set off the chaos inside. gunmen then tried to storm the building. security forces were able to push them back. eventually killing them in a fire fight. lawmakers inside parliament were confirming a new defense minister when that bomb went off. all inside we're told are safe.

and secretary bob mcdonnell that things were going to get better for veterans a year later, veterans are actually worse off than they were a year ago. they are now having to wait 50% longer for medical appointments and that's absolutely unacceptable. >> amber, don't you agree that there could be things we could have immediately have done? extended try care or extended for additional period of time or could have given the men and women who serve a chance to use the same thing, almost coupons to go to their own doctors, those are things that would have alleviated those long wait times and at the same time dealing with the problem that needed attention? >> yes. that's exactly why the v.a. reform bill was 2014 was passed last year. they were given 16 billion dollars to give them the choice. >> and a big picture question.

but there's no real evidence that he had mental problems per se but when it comes to evil richard, something was just wrong with this guy when it came to his world view. >> that's completely correct. it's very obvious that this individual was just as racist as the folks 16 years ago who bombed the church in birmingham. it's down right wrong and evil and we got to have a conversation about how we deal with this form of racism. that's the bottom line. >> i think we do have a conversation with that. the problem is you look how the conversation immediately went. it went toward gun control, it didn't go toward gun control, not mental health. we went to political answers and government solutions. no one wants to discuss mental health or evil in this case. the guy is evil. >> here's the distinction. i think people are willing to have a conversation on mental health how are we going to solve

mental health without putting more money in the system for mental health care. this is just racism. i don't think that's mental illness. we've got to have a conversation on how we can provide these individuals mental health care they need right away. >> eric one of the problems was the fact that there were people out there this guy had talked to and nobody did anything about it. it seemed like his family turned their back on him and it sounds like he was involved in one of those racist organizations he saw on the internet and for stuff like that you know there is no red light that comes on the -- warning on the dashboard where you can say, look at that guy because he's going to be a problem. >> right. and this goes to the other -- it's a broader discussion but look you've got people around the country now. getting on line, wanting to join isis. you guys like this wanting to join racist white supremacy groups all of which are evil. why are people doing this?

we live in a society we're told we don't have a higher and best use. we have an innate lock -- longing to recognize we do. we go out and explore. some kids get led astray and they wind up in these groups. everybody wants to talk about valid life choices and he made a very bad, not valid choice and no one wanted to raise a red flag about it beforehand. >> i think he made a very bad non-valid choice. and that doesn't escape the fact that he's still a racist. i would go further and say beyond being a racist he's a terrorist. he moved a political motivation to kill nine innocent lives and that's a huge problem. the only way we're going to eradicate racism is by having a larger broader conversation on how we deal with race in this country and how we isolate those individuals who are racists and call them that. >> you know richard, you are right. he is a racist. he is a hater, and he is a

terrorist, eric. >> yes. oh he's absolutely a terrorist, regardless of what the fbi says he was politically motivated. he wanted to cause fear and intimidation. he went in and did this. the problem i've got with the larger conversation on race though is it has become so politically motivated. let's be fair people on both sides of it profit by keeping racism alive in this country. people both sides profit by calling people racists. when you run for the republican party, democrats presume you are racist. they devalue the word. >> i do think that we have to have a larger conversation. this is not a democrat conversation or republican conversation this is an american conversation. we saw the courageous conversation happen in the 60s under lbj's leadership and now it's time for us to see that conversation again. how do we solve racism and end poverty and how do we make sure

good morning to you. >> good morning. >> you know in that trailer we just showed shelden, it showed the funeral of one of the dog handlers from iraq. the military dog in the church jumping up on the casket. did that actually happen? >> it's happened a number of times, actually. that's where we got the idea. we took that from real life. it's happened with military dog handlers who died police that have died. there have been a number of different reactions from dogs. they bring them to the funeral. the dog sees the casket and the dog knows who is inside the kask and they have various reactions. sometimes they flip out, like we show in the movie. sometimes they're very remorseful and subdued. and, yeah this is a real phenomenon. >> i'm sure it's a meaningful relationship. you were a radio operator in
