tv Americas Newsroom FOX News July 1, 2015 6:00am-8:01am PDT
6:00 am
great. tonight we'll be in long island. not sure where. >> could be in my backyard. >> yeah. >> you sound fantastic. >> once again the new album is called? >> "about to get real." bill: multiple explosions near the gaza strip terrorists draw blood close to israel. they claimed the lives of 50 egyptian soldiers. brand-new details revealing the controversial relationship between hillary clinton regarding an aide the president refused to hire. hillary clinton was getting advice from said blumenthal much earlier than originally thought.
6:01 am
i'm bill hemmer. martha: i'm martha maccallum. the state department releasing 3,000 emails showing the former secretary of state got a lot of advice from her old friend said blumenthal and they were talking about state matters until 2009. it showed blumenthal passing out information about a personal phone call he received from then prime minister gordon brown. >> here is why this is a big deal. the obama white house in 2009 banned said blumenthal from becoming an employee because of the dirty tricks he did on behalf of the clinton campaign against president obama.
6:02 am
robert gibbs blocked blumenthal saying we don't want this guy inside the administration. these emails reveal said blumenthal was advising the then secretary of state. helping her put together speeches for a trip to germany. very sensitive information. so it raises questions about whether there was a secret intelligence channel for the then secretary of state with said blumenthal around the white house. one of the most fascinating emails is p.j. crowley sent an email to hillary clinton's chief of staff saying said blumenthal just ran into an associated press report saying i'm around this building all the time. why was that such a big secret? it raises questions. bill: the president's top aides
6:03 am
did not want him hired and did not have hillary clinton's email account. >> reporter: one of his aides said he's on the phone right now with the secretary of state and she is saying she wants rahm to email her something. what's her email. this was nine months into the administration the white house chief of staff did not have her personal email address she was using for official business. david axlerod in june of 2009 asking for her email so he could send her a friendly message because she had gotten hurt. a couple weeks ago david axlerod said he didn't know she had this personal email. now it turns out he was emailing her -- nothing sensitive. but it's raising questions about
6:04 am
what was going on in this building and what the white house knew about it. bill: is it clarifying matters or raising more questions? >> we are just seeing a snapshot. this is 7% of the emails. hillary clinton has a lot more answers she has to come up with in the days ahead. >> it looks increasingly like hillary was running her own show. that's what's so fascinating about all of this when you think about the independent server. we'll talk a lot more about this. bill: i printed earlier today it was 10 pages. martha: you have to go back to the election. hillary clinton and obama were
6:05 am
not on the best terms. it was surprising when he hired her to be in the middle of his administration in a high-level position. we are going to learn a lot more about this as we continue this morning. this fox news alert. greece has defaulted on the international monetary fund. finally the gig was up yesterday. the greek government failed to pay back $1.8 billion to that fund they bor overred. the largest single payment in ims history. questions remain over greece's future. jerry, good morning to you. what are the ram if ramifications of this globally? >> reporter: we got news from
6:06 am
the imf greece was in arears. now reports the prime minister of greece alexis tsipras now saying he will accept the terms that he first stead were too onerous for the greek people. good news if this is true. but those are the reports. remember that greece received two bailouts. $240 billion, and $1.8 billion you are describing. greece becoming the first developed country to default on a loan from the international monetary fund. the last one was zimbabwe. this has more plot twists and a russian novel. this story about the greek debt.
6:07 am
martha: do we have similarities? we'll pull up a chart in our stone situation here at home. >> there is no imf for to us turn to. our debt is projected to continue on a trajectory similar to the greece debt. you can see in this chart here. this is a warning sign for all developing countries with entitlement programs that are out of control spending. martha: the question is down the road can we fulfill those promises. that's what greece is dealing with. bill: we have the next step in the thaw of relations between the u.s. and havana, cuba. the two countries agreeing open embalancessies in each other's capitals.
6:08 am
steve harrigan reports. what hatches next here? >> this is quite likely the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between cuba and the u.s. it comes after a 50-year breach in those relations. we expect president obama to announce we'll reopen our emb havana and cuba will reopen its embassy in the united states. the white house has to give congress 15 days notice before it reopens that embassy. so we could see the u.s. flag flying over the u.s. embassy that was shut down in 1961. bill: what are the main objections? >> reporter: critics say this
6:09 am
reestablishment of relations will help a dictatorship hang on to power. >> in cuba everything is state owned and state controlled. so all of that money will not help the cuban people get free. >> reporter: opponents could try to block the $6 million it will take to refurbish that intersection in havana. and they could block the appointment of an ambassador that has to be approved by the senate. bill: it will be interesting to see how the republican nominees respond. martha: more on the hillary clinton email dump. the flood of email releases has begun. it will be a drip, drip, drip that goes all the way to the election period. bill: an historic
6:10 am
african-american church? south carolina goes up on flames. we are waiting to hear from police if it's arson. martha: jimmy carter says the president's accomplishments have been in his words minimal. >> on the world stage to be as objective by the as i can. i can't think of many nations in the world where we have a better relationship now than we did when he took over.
6:14 am
martha: a federal official says they do not suspect arson after an historic church burns to the ground in south carolina. crews responded to that scene at mount zion in 1994. at that time two members of the kkk fled guilty. they say that least two churches were set intentionally. officials will be holding a press conference on that at the top of the hour. bill: the state department making a dump of hillary clinton's emails. washington has been waiting for
6:15 am
this. ed henry says 7% have been released. people are thinking about finding a smoking gun here. are they have going to find that? >> no. i was fleash gafted give the coverage "no smoking gun." because there wasn't an email hillary clinton wrote that said be sure to fake the benghazi riot so we can get away with it. as we have seen so far as you start to take testimony from people investigators are able to look for discrepancies. you are looking for differences between one witness and another. the other thing we got was a fascinating snapshot inside a dysfunctional obama administration as they were trying to deal with hillary clinton, the woman obama
6:16 am
defeated for the democratic nomination. >> it was like a government into a government. not only -- and david axlerod needs to get back on msnbc to clarify. he says he didn't know anything about the server. we have an email where he asked for her email address. we have the same thing from the white house chief of staff. he's saying may of i pretty please have the email address for the secretary of state? that's not the way it's supposed to be happening. we also see her traffic sidney blumenthal and her campaign strategist basically bag on obama. here is a bad poll for barack obama in ohio.
6:17 am
it sounds like somebody who is thinking about running for election in 2012. bill: our audience will hear a lot that the obama team did not want sidney blumenthal around while she wanted to hire him at the state department. >> he was the guy who came up with the most withering roughest toughest stuff about obama in the 2008 primary campaign. he was famed for his willingness to do, say go, and be. he has an ax, and a sharp one. presumably the president himself said i don't want this hatchet man hanging arounded the administration because he's bad news. bill: let's circle back to
6:18 am
benghazi. hillary clinton said this to cheryl mills. i just heard an npr report about the station chief in tripoli sending a cable on 9-12 saying there was no demonstration et cetera. do you know about this. cheryl mills response, have not seen, we'll see if we can get it. that was october 19, more than a month after. what does that tell us? >> part of what you see in these emails is somebody who is disconnected. there is a hilarious exchange where she can't figure out how to work a fax machine. she shows up for meetings at the white house that aren't scheduled. there is a radio report there is supposed to be a cabinet meeting and wondering if it exists. you have this person who says i just heard this on the radio.
6:19 am
and you think surely you were more intimately involved in something that stems from the death of one of your ambassadors. bill: i asked ed henry this 20 minute ago. does this clarify things or just raise questions. >> it clarifies that hillary clinton was not being honest when she said, oh, they were unsolicited emails. made it sounds like he was some old friend. this is a person who was in the employ of the clinton industrial complex and feeding her information, helping her write speeches. so she strenuously misrepresented his role in her organization. in terms of what we'll find out later. we'll have to keep tugging on thread here and see what's
6:20 am
underneath. bill: by the way i can't work a fax machine either. get back to the emails. mash * a controversy over the ten commandments. why the religious monument is being removed from state ground. >> after seven years of a weak and feckless foreign policy run by barack obama we better not turn it over to his second meat, hillary clinton.
6:24 am
141, plowing into a crowded neighborhood in indonesia. the pilot apparently trying to go back to the airport because of a problem with an engine at the time. >> america is tired of hand ringing and indecisiveness and weakness in the oval office. we need strength and decision making and authority in the oval office. that's why i'm proud to announce my candidacy for the republican nomination for president of the united states of america. martha: chris christie is already out on the campaign trail in new jersey in his hometown. but now he's already in new hampshire where he will be it appears for some time. as we do always when somebody makes it official we try to
6:25 am
figure out what their chances are. how do they stand out? what do you think? >> i think chris christie has a deeper -- steeper and narrower path ahead of them and the other candidate. i think he's solidly in the second tier. i think he's trying to emulate the john mccain strategy. he was so unsettled about giving it to you straight. i'm going to tell you the truth. and he's going to live in new hampshire for the next six months doing town hall after town hall thinking he can win over the 1 million registered voters in the state of new hampshire. martha: the thing that attracted
6:26 am
people to him was he's direct, even rude at times. john mccain tried to remold his personality on the campaign trail and it ended up not working for him. new hampshire. a close adviser and supporter of chris christie said forget iowa. it's all about new hampshire. >> i think he's essentially writing off iowa. it's like two leagues in major league baseball. there is the fight iowa, and there is a fight for new hampshire which is a chris christie jeb bush, marco rubio kasich fight. the winner of iowa will probably have some role in new hampshire.
6:27 am
he has to win in new hampshire or come in with an impressive second. john mccain wasn't the nominee. this is an old model of american politics. paul songas ran this tell it to you straight kind of guy. and that act became old and lecturing rather than uplifting. christie is a good speaker but there are a lot of good speakers out there. martha: thank you very much. bill: talking about bomb throwers, donald trump is not backing down over his comments on immigration. >> i have people complain being
6:28 am
my rhetoric. i have had the same rhetoric for years, you know that. i have been fighting border security and trade. bill: donald trump is suing univision for half a billion dollars. martha: team u.s.a. punching a ticket to the world cup finals. we have the highlights for you. but who will they play for the gold?

using car bombs to hit 15 submit outposts. minutes ago more explosions were heard on the gaza strip. things are blowing up. martha: donald trump is doubling down on his controversial immigration comments. he filed a $500 million lawsuit after nbc cut ties with him. >> i have a signed contract for five years to the pageant. they have no right to terminate and they terminated. and they didn't even send me a letter. they terminated with a p.r. statement. we have 50 of the loveliest women you have ever seen in louisiana who have been abandoned by nbc and abandoned
6:33 am
by univision. martha: we are joined by republican presidential candidate -- joined by former republican candidate george pataki. >> if they have a contract, they have a contract. but his comments about mexicans i think were unacceptable. he said they are sending drug dealers and rapists. his exact quote is some i assume are good people. this is 100-year-old rhetoric that is completely wrong. my grandmother came from ireland. 100 years ago they were saying they were all drunks. my grandmother came from italy they were saying then that they were all from the mafia. martha: let's rinse to one other
6:34 am
sounds bite. it goes to issue of trade on the border. >> what they are doing to us in trade is unbelievable. they are take our jobs, they are take our manufacturing and they are taking our money. i'm not angry at mexico because their representees and leaders are smarter than ours. i'm angry at our country for having such bad negotiators and bad leaders. >> he's right about that. it's our fault that we have taxes and regulations that drive american companies and businesses overseas. we have the worst taxes on corporations in the world. we have to put in place regulations and taxes that encourage companies to build here. he's wrong about the mexicans. he's right about closing the border. he's right about having to compete in trade. but he's wrong about the
6:35 am
mexicans who are here to build a better life. i have know a lot of my fellow republicans say we have to appeal to the latino vote of butter in after he frayed to say donald trump much is wrong. we cannot allow the american people to divide ourselves. the mexican marriage cans are here to stay. they came here the same reason my grandparents did to build a better life for their children and families. sure there are criminal elements and drug dealers. but it's not some mexicans who are good people. the vast majority are good people making this country better. martha: chris christy got in yesterday. he had his ups and downs in his popularity the last couple years. what do you think about him being in? >> there are a lot of good candidates. there are a lot of good governors.
6:36 am
harry truman said i'm whimming to look at my record. i'm whimming to look at my record against those of any of the other governors. but it's not just about what you have did and i believe in my vision to bring americans together and be strong against terrorists and take our country back for the people instead of the powerful elites in washington. martha: you look at the list of 14 and it will be 16 before you all are done. you have got a lot of we'll where you are 1%, 2%, 3%. what are your thoughts about that? are you okay with that? do you think everybody should stay in through that process? >> i do think everybody should stay on. of course, donald trump much is
6:37 am
second. he has incredible name i.d., he gets enormous press. but i don't think there are a lot of people who think he will be president of the united states. you work hard and make the case. i have to tell you have it reminds me about when i ran for governor of new york the first time i was nowhere. people were saying who is this guy? can't the republicans come up with somebody better to run against mario cuomo. bill: the u.s. women's soccer team playing germany in a great game. two players leaving the game momentarily after colliding and smack their heads together. one player from germany bleeding from the head. both women played on. the germans missing a key
6:38 am
penalty kick. the u.s. taking control in the second half. carli lloyd named the penalty kick. then kelly o'hara sealing the game. the u.s. women will play on sunday night on fox for the final. they will play the winner of japan and england. martha: these young women are representing us so beautifully. they are poised. they have a slot of character and they are a fun team to watch. fantastic athletes. congratulations. this story now. a frightening scene at the beach. a swimmer catching more than just a wave.
6:39 am
a bull shark in shallow water. why this is causing serious concerns today. bill: the worst foreign policy president in 40 years? jimmy carter makes the case that the president has failed on the world stage. ralph peters will react to this comment next. >> on the world stage just to be objective by the as i can i can't think of many nations in the world who we have a better relationship now than we did when he took office. i love the outdoors, spending time with my family. i have a family history of prostate cancer. i had the test done and that was when i got the news. my wife and i looked at treatment options. cancer treatment centers of america kept coming up on the radar. so we flew to phoenix. greg progressed excellently.
6:40 am
we proceeded to treat him with hormonal therapy, concurrent with intensity modulated radiation therapy to the prostate gland. go to cancercenter.com to learn more about our integrative therapies and how they're specifically designed to keep you strong mentally, physically and spiritually throughout your treatment. i feel great today i'm healthy, i have never been in a happier place, i can't imagine being treated anyplace else. fighting cancer has given me opportunities to live. i think i chose extremely well. call or go to cancercenter.com. cancer treatment centers of america. care that never quits. appointments available now.
6:42 am
6:43 am
the children were all over that beach swimming in that water and that predator was right there. they released the predator back into the ocean. but there are six shark attacks in that area alone. bill: i'll bet that -- martha: there are sharks in the ocean. what's happened to these young children. this is a very serious situation. bill: president obama's foreign policy getting a harsh critique from what might seem an unlikely source. here is jimmy carter with a
6:44 am
question from the moderator. >> what about president obama's success or failures on the world stage? how would you assess that? >> on the world stage i think they have been minimal. i think he has done some good things domestically. but on the world stage just to be objective about it as i can. i can't think of many nations in the world who we have a better relationship now than we did when we took over. bill: wow why is he talking like that? colonel ralph peters, good morning to you. >> there are a lot of ambitious young journalists who would like to go swimming with the sharks. bill: maybe they won't get their chance just now. back to the issue at hand. why is president carter talking
6:45 am
like this? >> carter is a hard and honest man and he has blind spots but he's sincere. and he said quite honest live. if you hear what he said, it amounts to george w. bush had a better foreign policy and better relations with every country in the world. there is one country where he has improved relations cuba. but carter is often misread. he has a reputation for being the foreign policy president. but there is a difference between carter and obama. carter was very sincere and most importantly in the course of his presidency carter learned he wised up. by the end of his presidency he was going after the soviets in afghanistan. increasing military budgets. the thing about president obama
6:46 am
about whose i.q. we hear such wonderful things, in 6 1/years he appears to have learned nothing about foreign policy, military policy and human nature. carter again by the end of this presidency he was a chastened man trying to do the right thing. president obama is staying the ideological course. carter -- we are all imperfect human beings. carter did give some praise to john kerry. i think that's because he's perceived as pro palestinian. bill: he says america's prestige in the world is probably lower than it was six or seven years ago. >> i think at heart carter is an
6:47 am
honest man. he gets it wrong but he gets it honestly wrong. president obama i don't think many people would accuse him of having deep integrity. he's a hardliner when it comes to theology -- ideology. all partisanship aside. had president obama been an average president or low average it could have been a great thing for this country a unifying force. instead we are so divided on so many issues from foreign policy to race relations that this failed presidency is going to cost us for decade to come. bill: let's keep it on foreign policy. perhaps something changes with this iran deal. yesterday the president said if it's not a good deal he will walk away. he made that clear. do you believe it? >> i think he's hearing from
6:48 am
kerry the hard liners in iran won't budge. so he's preparing the ground work if the deal fails he can say we walked away so it was his decision. he was strong. it's a curious situation where you have to root for the iranians to hold the hard line. iran is of course somewhat fractionalized. they have their internal arguments. there are hardliners who don't want a deal because they like the way things are. at the end of the day the best hopes is the iranians overplayed their hand and demand a deal that kerry and became qunlt accept. even if the talks collapse next tuesday, they may or may not. we may get more extensions. but even if they briefly collapse it will be a brief collapse and we'll be back at the negotiating table. the iranians know how to play us, they are masters.
6:49 am
bill: we started this conversation about jimmy carter. >> i think he's being objective. >> thank you we'll keep those young journalists at bay. ralph peters in washington. martha: a state supreme court rules this monument has to come down. we'll tell you what's coming -- going on there. bill: new concerns about isis trying to radicalize americans and communicate with them at home. >> there is no doubt in anybody's mind that i know of that's smart that doesn't believe they are planning and would want to attack the united states of america. that's what they say. i take them at their word.
6:53 am
bill: one of hollywood's power couple splitting up. jennifer garner and ben affleck are getting a divorce. they have been living separately for several months. they are asking for privacy. she seems like such a sweetheart. martha: it's a shame and we wish them well obviously. in the meantime there is a fight going on over religion in oklahoma. the state supreme court ruling a monument of the ten commandments has to be removed from the capitol ground because it violates the state's constitution. stacy, what prompted this ruling? >> reporter: this is based off a lawsuit filed by the aclu.
6:54 am
they say it's a violation of the state constitution because it is placed and it's considered use of public property for the benefit of a system of religion. in a 7-2 vote the oklahoma supreme court justices ruled after a lower court said the prominent fixture to stay on the capitol ground. >> the u.s. supreme court says to state you know what? if you are not violating the u.s. constitution we are not likely to second guess how you interpret your law. >> reporter: that monument was put up in 2012. it had to be replaced after a man drove his car through the original one destroying it. the attorney general of oklahoma
6:55 am
saying he believes the justices got this wrong. he asked the high court for a rehearing of the case. scott prove it says in the interest -- scott pruitt says in the meantime the law cannot be even forced. >> i find it odd at the eve of the birthday of our fowrnlgd of our country coming up this decision coming out is a slap in the face for all of those who fought for freedom. >> reporter: a spokesperson for the oklahoma governor says she, too is disappointed by the court's decision, martha. bill: was it arson or something else? an historic black church is burned to the ground. what was behind it?
6:56 am
>> lots of reading going on in washington. 3,000 pages of hillary clinton's emails have been released shedding light on who in the white house knew she was using a private server. there's just one last thing to do: check with truecar. car prices change all the time for all kinds of reasons. but truecar pulls in the latest, most accurate data so i can be sure if i'm getting a great price. this is truecar.
6:59 am
>> we are waiting to hear from president obama about a major diplomatic development with the u.s. restoring full relations with cuba after more than 50 years of hostility. the u.s. is opening an embassy in havana and cuba setting up shop in washington as well. the president expected to make an official announcement in the rose garden where he has been spending quite a bit of time. we will bring you live. and a news conference set to get
7:00 am
underway in north carolina where a historic black ame church burn today the ground. welcome to a brand new hours of "america's newsroom." i am martha maccallum. >> and i am bill hemmer. federal officials say they don't suspect arson. >> john is live with more. >> reporter: this town is about 50 miles due north of charleston south carolina. the church burned to nothing more than a shell last night. this same church because burned to the ground in 1995 by two former members of the kkk and president clinton attended the
7:01 am
reopening of the church the following year. a press conference is going to be held to discuss what was found. the fbi firearm and tobacco organization and south carolina law enforcement are looking into this. at this moment it doesn't look like it was arson. there were a lot of storms and lightning strikes between 6:30-7:30. it could be the church was hit by lightning or electrical fault triggered the fire. as you can imagine the charleston shooting and taking down the confederate flag and the string of church burnings any time anything like this happens people want to know if this is a hate crime. >> it is very strange. we have seen a series of these fires. what do we know about the other
7:02 am
cases? >> reporter: we know there have been six others that have been set or happened accidently. one year agusta georgia has determined the cause and others in knoxville, charlotte north carolina, and tallahassee but two of the fires in gibson and tallahassee may have been sparked by storms. >> investigation is ongoing. thank you very much. >> this news is breaking. president obama threatening to pull the plug on the iran nuclear deal. here is what the president said yesterday after about this: >> i will walk away from the negotiations if in fact it is a bad deal.
7:03 am
if we cannot provide assurance that the pathway for iran to get a nuclear weapon is close and we cannot verify that if the inspection team is inadequate we will not get a deal. >> james rosen is live. what did he say today? >> reporter: if it were true the critics word would be true saying there is no deadline. during the afternoon sit down with secretary of state john kerry extending to eight hours, the face time the men enjoyed since commencing this round of talk, iran foreign minister was asked why the new deadline was set and if it can be met.
7:04 am
he said we didn't set any deadline. we will continue to make progress and have made progress. he confirmed the director of the international atomic agency whose technicians would perform the inspections and monitor the cameras will be visiting tomorrow to meet with nuclear officials quote on how to proceed. does that mean the talks closing in on many inspection-related issues? he would only way let him decide. >> why did the u.s. walk away at midnight? the president was willing to do that. but why not? >> reporter: that is a fair question. here is the reply reporters received yesterday from state department john kirby. >> it is extending the joint
7:05 am
plan of action. it is a technical extension. it is like going into extra innings in the same game. what i can also say thirdly is that our focus remains on trying to reach a deal. >> reporter: on an unrelated note we expect to see statements on the opening statements about the embassy in cuba from john kerry followed by president obama commenting on it. the state department released new e-mails from hillary clinton and they are looking into the benghazi scandal and her relationship with sidney blumenthal.
7:06 am
i talk to a congressman about this. we are getting a sense of the e-mails being released. what is your reaction to that so far? >> it is very interesting the first batch of e-mails we get released is from march of 2009 to december of 2009. i don't understand why they didn't do march of 2012 to december of 2012 because that is certainly where our most in the is. they say they are having a problem producing the documents. why couldn't they have set the sort to be the year 2012. it is just another delay in tactic. >> it sounds likes it is chronlogical order but there are 35,000 documents with benghazi e-mails to susan rice, and
7:07 am
sharon mills and jake sullivan as well. are you familiar with that separate set? when do you expect you will seeinose? >> i don't know if anyone has seen them thon committee but they will be interesting. >> what do you make of the ship relationship with sidney blumenthal? it appears it went back to 2009 and he advised her on a number of state issues even though he was told not to hire her. >> i would certainly vote to release that transcript that we have. but i do understand that the chairman has concern that you know, other witnesses we are going to be coming in to interview, might have their memory skewed a little bit by what somebody else remembers and might get information about what
7:08 am
somebody else reveals. i understand the chairman's uncertainty in doing this. >> this is kirby. >> there has been nothing but non-stop work on this. you have to understand the enormity of the task. it is a lot of stuff to go through. >> what do you make of the state department dealing with iran russia and is describeing non-stop work dealing with e-mails that should have been turned over by hillary clinton years ago? >> we don't know if hillary clinton has turped over all of the e-mails yet. as seen in the fact there were 60 new e-mails that we got that we had not previously had. 15 of them had never been turned
7:09 am
over by ms. clinton to the state department and the state department was holding some of them. why didn't we get those? >> thank you very much for being with us. they are busy at the statement department with thousands of e-mails to go through. they are doing them in pieces and drip drip drip. >> fox news alert. more to come on this. there have been multiple explosions and attacks overseas and egypt is blowing up in parts. that is this. plus there is this: >> we have to fight like hell. but we are going to make the country great again. if i get elected i will make this country great again. >> big promises from presidential hopeful donald trump but are his words having an impact in iowa where it will
7:10 am
count? >> and why this selfie could get this tourist in serious trouble. i have lung cancer. and i've heard it all... the well-meaning advice of friends... the guarded words of doctors... the brave resolve of loved ones... what i haven't heard... what a lot of us haven't heard nearly enough... ...is new news. over 430,000 americans are living with lung cancer today. in fact, every two and a half minutes another person is diagnosed. although there are known risk factors anyone can get lung cancer. and every case is different. but now patients could be hearing some unexpected news. this news goes beyond what you may know today. research is leading to scientific advancements... that could offer some patients the potential of longer life... and the chance to share more moments and memories. news in lung cancer? now, i'm listening. if you have lung cancer, you haven't heard it all. yet. talk to your doctor today for more information on lung cancer. and call now...

no-no. he is a tourist in tennessee and police say he was trespassing. not clear if further action is going to be taken against him but friends and family know now. waves of attacks in egypt killing at least 50 people today. all of this as terrorist are pledging their allegiance to isis and targeting hamas even. pete is here with us to discuss this. you see the president of egypt who spoke out strongly against isis and wanted us to respond to these islamic militants and now has serious problems at home. >> reporter: he did. it got worse and now they have a
7:15 am
fight on their hand. they have an all out internal war with remnants of the muslim brotherhood, and isis trying to roll back the egypt military, and now you hear reports of isis-inspired. not necessarily isis branches but isis-inspired attacks on hamas in the gaza trip. this ties back to syria, isis and the bleeding heart of hate that is beating from syria and the momentum is building and you have bold islamist taking on hamas; the group that wants to wipe israel off the map. >> what are we doing? >> not a whole lot. every since morrsi was removed
7:16 am
we have had a hands off policy. obama has held back in the support of a guy who is clearly declaring war on isis islamic just like other moderate muslims in that region who may not be democrats who love freedom but you know what they hate? the idea of radical islamist running that area. >> you have iraq syria egypt and libya. if this were going around the curve here you look at jordan our ally and israel our ally. if they are going after hamas, these are islamist who feel other radicals are not quite tough enough not quite brutal
7:17 am
enough to be in their club now they are going to go after hamas and say you are out of here. we are the top islamic group and you better be as brutal as we are. what happens when something hits israel in the course of the battle? >> i think the hamas groups want that. they are not at risk of being removed but there is a risk of isis-affiliated folks firing hamas and firing rockets and instigating that battle. you have folks that don't recognize the modern nation state, they don't recognize all of the formations. they believe in a worldwide caliphate. our allies in egypt and jordan, you know why they are not banding together to fight isis? because we are at the table
7:18 am
trying to negotiate with iran and codify a bomb with their enemies without understanding the consequences of what that is doing to our ability to fight isis. why don't we have arab armies taking on isis? because they are worried about our relationship with iran and they are preparing for a civil war with the shiite as opposed to dealing with the threat of establishes a caliphate across the middle east. this is a problem in many ways of our own doing and lack of leadership is pulling the cover off the power keg. when hamas is being challenged by isis you know how bad it really is. >> when you see the people who killed the people on the beach and the museums were trained in libya you have to wonder when that is going to be exported god forbid, to our shores. and those who think this is a problem over there may feel
7:19 am
differently about it. >> unfortunately on high alert days before the fourth of july holiday worried about isis reaching lone wolves at home. >> every day there are twitter messages coming out directing americans to kill the infidel. there are so many of them and it is hard to stop. >> the fbi is setting up command centers and we will talk to a former cia director on this. and there is this: >> yes! world cup final for the us woman's national team. can they win it all and make history in the progress? brian is here and will be with us coming up.

>> heightened security at home before the fourth of july weekend. a new jersey man arrested suspected of supporting isis. this is more proof the analyst say the terror group is trying to radicalize people living in the u.s. former cia director and chairman of the foundation for defense for demomeracy is here. thank you for coming in. mike mccall house chairman from yesterday said this on "america's newsroom" yesterday about the threat: >> yesterday was the one-year anniversary of the caliphate and the fourth of july we know there are possible targets for 4th of july parades. all of these things create a scenario that is almost a
7:24 am
perfect storm that we are concerned about. >> they all seem to be talking about the same thing at the same time and on the same page. what do you make of that? >> i think it is really risky over the 4th. because it is the 4th and they like to go out their enemies on holidays they have special instructions during ram to kill people and you have the year anniversary of the caliphate. things are coming together. but the most important thing is not tied to at a date but what is happening with social media. isis yesterday put out 90,000 messages of one kind or another. >> 90,000! in one day? >> that is what the press said
7:25 am
in one story. it is a different mode of communication. an analyst wrote a piece called the facts will make you free addressed to the people of eastern europe and the facts help undermine the polish patriots and undermine the soviets who didn't know how to deal with it. communication changes can often have a major disruptive affect on things and i think that is one thing you are seeing here. they don't have to have meetings, they don't have to travel they don't have to do anything to get together or radicalize young americans or
7:26 am
brits. >> when it comes to chatter you are not following a phone conversation. this chatter pops up from anywhere. they are getting and tracking isis threats out of syria, through social media into the united states every day and that is what concerns him. >> and the combination of the social media changes and the anniversaries make this a dangerous time. i, like everybody else am not going to say stay home from the fourth of july parades but we watch full. >> the police commissioner in new york city said we are not always worried about what we know but it is what why don't know we are chasing. >> and different people can find things. i think a food vendor on time square found the time square

bomb. the american people will help on things if they are given an opportunity. and what we have to hope is we don't have something disgusised in a knapsack like it was in boston. >> thank you were coming in. thank you for your time. >> lots to think about there. for 2016 the leader of the pack could be looking over his shoulder. governor scott walker has someone in iowa at his heels. >> and sery is getting snappy. the rather interesting answer to
7:31 am
president obama about to head back to the rose garden and will announce a major shift in u.s. diplomatic policy. the united states is ready to restore full diplomatic relations with cuba 54 years after breaking the ties opening an embassy in havana later this month and cuba will have an embassy in washington. the president making the comments moments away in the rose garden. >> now to a brand new poll having scott walker leading the pack of republicans in the state of iowa. walker has not declared but he is polling at 18% ahead of trump and carson at 10%. we have howard dean's campaign
7:32 am
manager and gentlemen welcome back. you have walker at 18%, and trump and carson at 10%, and ted cruz and paul at 9% and jeb bush at 8%. how do you see this poll? >> iowa is all about organization and polls at this time, i think walker made a favorable impression. the two guys who are not paul politician politicians are in second place. i don't know how long they will last. people like mike huckabee who won the state six years ago are not doing as well as people anticipated. walker has a good ground organization i would not be displeased if i was there. it is a couple point different and that is margin of error >> joe, what do you see?
7:33 am
>> you would rather be walker where he is. but ed is right. it is all too early and all organizational. things change dramatically in iowa. i was in 1988 last place three weeks out and won it three weeks later. don't count anybody out but anything can happen. >> ed pulled it out for huckabee. >> he pulled it off himself. i take no credit. he was at 1% when starting. so joe's point is valid. there is an anti-establishment current there when you see carson paul trump at the front of the pack. they may chose one candidate later that knows forward and the guy not doing as well as people thought is bush. >> walker is at 18% now and 21%
7:34 am
on may 6th and 25% before that. that is probably a result of others getting in the field? >> you have a larger field and it does possibly show slippage but 21-18 are the same number. >> he was born in iowa wasn't he? >> yes i do believe. >> gentlemen, cnn came out a poll earlier today. across the country this is watt cnn found. bush at 19 trump at 12 huckabee at 8 paul at 7 and hillary clinton had beat all of them. >> national poll doesn't mean anything right now. that is name id. and some support. again trump for the last weeks had a lot of publicity.
7:35 am
some good some not so good. but at the end of the day he is the most widely known candidate. but a national poll doesn't mean a lot. >> what about jeb bush coming out with 33 years of tax returns? >> everybody is going to have to deal with that. i think it is smart for him to do. it puts the pressure on everybody else including hillary clinton at some point. i think it was smart for him to do something like that. >> no one has gone back that far. >> you saw a few headlines not but many. >> i kind of think it is amazing that somebody went 33 years back. i don't know about any of you but i would not know where mine were after five or six years ago. it proves he has more money than the vast majority of consultants. bush wants to be the full disclosure e-mail.
7:36 am
he put out the e-mails as governor. there have been stories of him making money early on and he is putting it out there. >> 33 years. that is an organized human being. >> yes it is. >> thank you ed and joe. good to see you fellows. how do you get along with siri on our phone? actor aaron paul was one of the first to bring it to everyone's attention tweeting ask siri what 0 divided by 0. right now. here is the lady who lives in your phone's response. >> imagine you have zero cookies and split them evenly among zero friends. how many cookies does each one get? it doesn't make sense and cookie monster is sad you have no cookies and we are sad you have no friends.

>> she has several smart answers for questions that deem are below than her. kids say who should i marry and she has answers like that. my son can ask siri anything and she has the perfect answer. >> i think she is starting to warm up to me. a college students accused of rape is fighting back claiming the girl intentionally destroyed his reputation. does he have a case? >> and us celebrates a major victory against germany and they were number one. now our team gets to go the to world cup finals. >> bring it home, ladies.

7:41 am
>> a worker killed on a job after sand collapsed on his bulldozer. he died at the scene. he was 66 years old. an investigation into how that happened is now underway. >> this is quite the piece. a college student accused of sex sexual assault in 2012 is suing his school and the person that accused him. claiming that columbia university allowed his accuser to publically destroy his reputation even after the school cleared him of the charnels in two separate investigations one at the school and one at the city city city
7:42 am
city level. his lawyers are saying columbia should have stopped the accuser from promoting fake rape allegations according to them, she was often seen and you probably heard about this case she carried as her art project under the direction of her art professor she carried the mattress from her dorm room which she claims she was raped on all around the campus over the course of the year and even carried it up on to the podium at graduation eb. joined by heather hanson and eric who is a criminal defense attorney. any rape case is one too many that is proven against anyone. but it appears that we are now in a situation, a territory in this country where we have a lot of young men who are being
7:43 am
accused and then being exonerated but these charges keep hounding them and hounding the. he is fighting back saying columbia did her wrong by allowing her to make this huge display. she did a video in which she re-creates and i don't recommend you watch it because i have she and a friend re-create or rape. heather, does he have a case he is being discriminateedppleminatediscriminated because he is a male? >> i think it is because he is an alleged perpetrator and if the victim was male they would have to face the same thing. the easier case is the school violated their own policy and procedures. they said when this happens they will protect everyone's
7:44 am
privacy and instead they allowed this woman to go out and do this very public display of what she alleged happened. they allowed her to bring the mattress on the stage despite the fact they told students not to bring large objects to graduation. so they put themselves in a tough place. >> she has been herald as a champion for people who have been attacked. this is obviously a complicated story and we are not here today to establish the truth of the story itself. but the fact is columbia in some ways is potentially liable here eric, because he wasn't allowed any representation. he wasn't allowed to have a lawyer in the room. >> correct. but he was cleared. >> and then he was cleared. >> this young man was cleared of
7:45 am
the charges and this young lady is attacking her through her thesis and that gave her an enormous platform to attack this man. in the uva case it reminds me of that their lives were destroyed. >> they were not named specifically. this person is suing under his own name. and you know just so people know she did an exhibit at the end of senior year and posted articles with his name in it accusing him. >> and to your point, the problem here with these cases is from our administration. our administration has sent out the colleague letter saying the campuses should be handling these things. the accused don't get representation. >> how can that be?
7:46 am
>> that is the problem with handling this on campus. it is difficult to deal with the criminal system but it gives everyone on both sides due process. >> a rape is a crime so why is this being handled in the college courts? >> colleges are taking them under their wing deepkeeping them secret, the cause is not a criminal trial. >> it is not up to the college. it is up to the administration. >> and the department of education. >> that is right. under title 9 which says you cannot discriminate and suddenly it has become a whole thing about campus rape and campus assault. >> the other reason to bring up the story is this is a high profile one but these cases are happening all over the country. what would you advise a parent whose son is accused?
7:47 am
do you say we're not going into the campus court system without representation. >> there are a number of groups that bring together boys/men who have been accused of this and their parents to find appropriate representation and get someone to handle their interest and make sure even if you cannot have a lawyer represent you you can have someone consult with. >> this type of allegation last forever. >> because it is only fair. they need lawyers because it they need fair representation. like i said no body is trying to protect anyone who is assaulting anyone be it a male or female but there has to be a fair process and that is not happening. >> must be fair on both sides. a person can lie and say they have been raped and a person who has been lied on needs representation representation. >> i have a daughter and two
7:48 am
sons and want them all fairly represented on both sides of the equation. good to have you both. >> we are waiting an announcement from president obama and the white house said that will happen any moment. the u.s. and cuba about to do something we have not seen in decades. we will bring it live and look at what it means to us here in america. whoa whoa whoa! who's responsible for this?!? if something goes wrong, you find a scapegoat. ...rick. it's what you do. ahhhhhhhh! what'd you say? uh-oh! kelly! if you want to save fifteen percent or more on car insurance, you switch to geico. it's what you do. rick. don't walk away from me. ahhhhhhhh!

trump and macy's parting ways. >> just a beauty. the united states on the way to the woman's cup world final. the us faces japan or england for a shot at history. brian is here from the fox news radio. i thought that early in that game the header i think we have video of it where these two women collide with such force it is hard to watch and the german player came up with her head bleeding, i thought that dictated the game for how aggressive the american women would play. >> the germans are aggressive and at the end morgan brian got on the cross and the german had her eyes closed and smacked her
7:53 am
on the side of the head and it cut her head open. you can see her head gushing with blood like you would at a championship boxing match. in the end they both stayed in the game. and the german would wear what looked like a chin strap around here. when she took it off you saw all of the blood in her had hair. people think female sports are played differently and maybe slightly but in terms of aggression that is not the case. you got hit in the back, side tackled and hurt. >> we win, we advance. what do you think is going right with the women's team when you look at the last three games they have played? >> from a soccer perspective they have looked like great athletes and fit but totally disjointed until the last games. they changed it the formation.
7:54 am
>> why does that matter? >> because if you want to line up more defensef four back and four mid field. more flexibility to get at the offense you make four mid fields four backs followed by four mid feelers and three forwards. that is the way the women prefer to play. and the coach said finally i will let the pros do what they are supposed to do. you don't have to be a soccer expert to know this team was fantastic. they have one more win and it will be sunday in the finals against japan. >> 7:00 prime time on fox broadcast. who do you want to play? >> england is the upstart. much rather play england. japan is the foot skills. >> you definitely want to play
7:55 am
england but i think japan wins 3-0. and then sunday it will be wild. 15 million i think watching last night and 8 million watching the quarterfinals so fox is doing a good job. >> i don't care who we play i am watching and we are winning. >> and i heard martha breathing so tell her hi. >> see you, brian. president obama making another move in restoring full diplomatic relations with embassies in havana and one in washington opening up as the relationship is beginning to thrive. his remarks coming up at the top of the hour.
7:59 am
>> we begin with a fox news alert as we await a major announcement from the president establishing full diplomatic relations with cuba. i'm jenna lee. >> i'm eric shawn in for jon scott. the ties between our two countries were broken off in 1961. the president is expected to speak at any moment in the rose garden. the communist nation is only 9 ought miles from our shores. but many are wondering if the castros will release their

political prisoners. and finally stop their despotic grip on their people. >> reporter: the u.s. embassy in havana was closed january 3 1961. it could be back open for business by the end of this month. president obama expected to make this announcement shortly. cuba will reopen its embassy in washington d.c. these announcements come after months of heavy negotiations, four rounds in cuba and the united states. the argument being made that cuba has not made enough concessions towards democracy in these negotiations. what will hatch by opening relations with the u.s. will simply enable a dictator to
