what do you think about these terror warnings? will they stop from you doing you will do? happy independence day, land of the free, home of the brave. welcome to hannity. i'm tucker carlson. americans have been warned to be extra vigilant this holiday weekend. the fbi and homeland security are warning of possible terror attacks by isis. isis used this holiday as a key target. what exactly is the federal government doing to ramp up security and keep the rest of us safe? the latest details, fox news' chief intelligence correspondent. >> reporter: an investigative source who tracks terrorist social media tells fox news the chatter has ramped up significantly and they have not seen a more severe threat environment leading to the

fourth in the last decade. that's because of a growing number of cases kit take only a matter of days for a home grown recruit to make contact with isis and then go operational. earlier today state department spokesman said the threats for the time being are not credible. >> no specific credible threat that has been identified. i think it is good common sense when you have large gatherings. get out and enjoy holiday. it is an important date in our history and he know i speak for secretary kerry when i say americans should go out and enjoy that. >> separately fox news has learned the most common link between terror arrests is an isis operative who goes by the handle. the same on that traif was in contact with the two shooters in garland, texas, and appears to have the plot. earlier it was a massive police presence at the washington navy yard on the eve of the july 4 weekend after reports of shots

being fired. that base as you'll recall is where 12 employees were gounld down in 2014 by a mentally ill military contractor and for much of the morning it was a lockdown. be federal and law enforcement responded as if the threat was credible. after searching building 197, the same scene as the 2013 incident and questioning the person who raised the alarm, police confirmed there was no active shooter and gave the all clear. >> we have no concerns whatsoever. i think this is an employee that did exactly what we ask employees to do. >> the d.c. police are emphasizing the heavy display of force in the capital was not a reflection of the heightened threat environment. fox has learned the fbi has recently shifted tactics. to get suspects off the streets to make a case against them while they're in custody rather than taking the risk of leaving them under surveillance. thank you. joining me retired special

forces officer to dick cheney on counter terrorism. as well as deputy assistant director of the fbi, danny coleson. thank you. how seriously should we take these warnings? >> very seriously. there is the most energetic series of warnings that i've heard coming out of fbi for a long time of even members of congress are given warnings. i think it is because of the high volume of social media traffic coming into the united states from overseas. and i know they believe somebody will pick up on one of these messages to make jihad on the united states that and i think that's why they're so concerned. rightfully so. >> so why now. you've seen a couple of reports in the last few weeks that have shown a demonstrable rise in terror across the globe. why? >> rather than defeating and degrading isis they're growing in capability. just a week ago they coordinated three attacks across three continents france kuwait and

tunisia including murdering 30 british citizens on the beach. i'm convinced another attack of that type is imminent. it will be a lone gunman. a soft target in a fourth of july celebration or a suicide bomber in a shopping mall. >> it seems like we have a pretty passive position when it come to isis. they've taken over lots of iraq. we don't seem to be doing much about it comfortable we rest assured the united states is doing all it can to protect united states citizens? >> i don't believe we are. success breeds success and success breeds converts. i think that's the why you see so many join the movement. they're successful. they've turned armies against

from the rear. >> so you're planning on enjoying the fourth of july. should you think twice before you do that? >> i wouldn't. i would go. if i want to go celebrate the fourth of july i'm going to do it. i'll be aware of exits, look around somebody that doesn't look right. somebody is walking around a hoodie sweatshirt in the middle of july. that's a key. if you see something, say something. that sounds very trite. we saw in regard to the shooting in north carolina that individual was captured because of a concerned citizen. and most of it comes from people who see something and say something i can't. say it enough. it doesn't sound important but it is the most important they know. >> so it sounds like we're making at least common cause in iran with our fight against isis in iraq. is that happening? or am i misreading accounts? >> no. i don't think so.

i think this administration wants a nuclear deal so badly that everything including the red lines against syria and the assad regime is falling into third or fourth place. and iran knows it and is taking that position and running with it. whether it is pushing in syria, pushing in iraq pushing in yemen, it is starting to push in afghanistan. so our negotiating position has become so weak and iran realizes an opportunity, that they're running as hard as they can. >> it sounds like iraq is controlled by iran and isis. a bad combination to me. the fbi right now is obviously aware of this threat and they're working to prevent attacks. it is such a massive country. 320 million people in the country. what exactly are they doing? to the extent you can divulge that? >> a lot of what they do involves cooperation of local police. the first line of defense in a terrorist attack is the local

police department. the local security agencies. and putting them on notice using the joint terrorism task force as a pass on intel. facial recognition cameras at major events. they're hugely ime's a lot they do and they do it as a partnership. the fbi doesn't do it by themselves. it is the partnerships that are effective. and that will save us. >> how frustrated is the fbi and other law enforcement? by the fact federal government continues to resettle refugees from countries where islamic the is the norm. you're seeing it in the communities and law enforcement has to deal with it. does that upset them at all? >> i think it does. i think immigration is very important to the success of our country. who we allow to come in here. you've seen some you're penal countries cut off immigration.

in the outer banks, a man was bitten in waist deep water. made it back to shore. he is recovering from his injuries. but scary any way. that state has seen seven attacks since memorial day. meanwhile, in south carolina, a 12-year-old boy was bitten on his leg and suffered nonlife threatening injuries. what is going on? joining me with reaction is outer banks executive director lee. appreciate you joining us. >> this does sound real. >> there are shark attacks taking place. and more than in memory. why? >> it's extremely unusual. in a state that is used to seeing only one or two attacks a year. it is just unprecedented. we think that it has to do with the higher water temperatures. sharks live in the ocean and they have to eat so they're coming in. they don't typically eat

peel. that's what we've been assured by the experts. sharks don't want to eat you as long as you don't dress like a seal you're okay. should we rethink that? maybe they do want to eat us? >> the shark attacks by and large are accidental. sharks are going after other food supplies. and it is important to remember that the three incidents we've had on the outer banks are over a 40-mile area. and the attacks that have happened along the north carolina shore over 300 miles. meanwhile, the outer banks alone has estimates, 5 million visitors annually. so it is an extremely rare incident. we of course want our visitors to be safe. we want folks to be mindful and to take precautions and to be vigilant and beware of surroundings. there are some simple things you can do. avoid swimming in the early morning, the late evening when sharks timally feed.

don't wear jewelry into the water. swim in groups and in particular be aware of your surroundings. >> yeah. don't thrash around like a wounded sea that lion. thank you for joining us. joining us now, cinematographer and at the marine laboratory dr. bob. thank you for joining us. so bob, we're trying to get a handle on what we can do as in the ocean to not get attacked by sharks. what's your advice? >> actually he just summed it up very well. the only thing i would add to his list is don't swim where people are fishing. i've noticed in these cases, in the carolinas, these recent cases, in most of the cases, there's a fishing pier not far from where these people have been bitten. and no doubt people are fishing off the beach. so we don't want to mix fishing which tries to draw large fish.

we don't want to mix fishing with swimming. so don't swim where people are putting bait in the water that could attract sharks. >> don't drive into the chum slick. good advice. what kind of sharks are these? all of russ fixated on great whites because of "jaws." is that what we should fear? >> no. not in north and south carolina. the white sharks have arrived early. but these sharks are tropical sharks. i believe about seven to eight feet in length. possibly a bull shark, a sand bar, possibly a lemon shark from looking at the bites. they were definitely releases. they were investigating what their subjects were probably in bad visibility and released right after biting. >> in bad visibility. everyone wants to make excuses for sharks. every time i talk to a shark experts, oh, they didn't mean to do it. maybe some of them have gone rogue. >> we're very fascinated with sharks. we have to remember that there are ten drowning death as day

worldwide. and there are many things out there that could get you before a shark does. it seems to be very unfair. such low statistics to point out this animal and somehow kind of demonize it. >> i'm kind of comfortable demonizing it. if you are grabbed by one, what should you do? punch it in the nose? >> you can try that. hitting it in the nose or in the eyes or around the gills. this is not something you need to write town and remember these rules. if it happens, you're going on react naturally. this is a one in 20 million chance that this would happen to you. i wouldn't worry about it. more vigilant about your surroundings listen to the local authorities, get out of the water if sharks are in the area and stay safe. >> is being on a boogie board or a surfboard? is that a risk?

>> if you're surfing where black tip sharks are feeding, then they can see your hand or foot and possibly confuse it with what they're really looking for which is a small fish. and i want to say that to go to your question, why do we defend sharks? it is because people think of "jaws." they have this image of these huge sharks eating people. that's not what we're talking about. in most of these cases, i prefer to call these bites and not attacks. >> that's an interesting point. when sharks do attack they typically take a bite and pull back? do they keep chewing? describe the mechanics of a shark attack? >> well we're really not on the sharks' food chain. right now they're corralling a lot of food near shore, sea turtles. but people are walking out into the water. the sharks are looking for their bait and they bump into something. through their competitive
