since isis overseas and social media have been urging sympathizers to do whatever they can whenever they can officials are very concerned. to try to minimize any official threats at events today. authorities have been rounding up people that they suspect of having terror connections even on lesser charges because the most important thing from law enforcement is just keeping them off the street on independence day. >> a lot of arrests as you saw the previous weeks of threats that were being directed against us. but at this time, again, we are relying very much on the see something, say something to the public. we are viewing and monitoring social media and other avenues. i'm in town having a good time myself. >> in new york there where missioner bratton is both to see radiation detection surveying the hudson. helicopters overhead. 56 command centers spread out across the country. they are ready to monitor

big events like parades and fireworks and respond if necessary. back to you. >> all right. peter doocy in washington. thanks for the update, peter. meanwhile there has already been a fourth of july tragedy it took places in san francisco right there on the water. tours know exactly where that is and resulted in the murder of 32-year-old catherine steimel. >> this isn't a normal murder though. the accused murderer is an illegal mexican immigrant who is a seven time felon. his name is francisco sanchez. he has a deep criminal past and by the way he has been deported five different times with those seven felonies. >> he was actually arrested back in march for outstanding drug warrant. he was released from san francisco jail despite immigration authorities asking to be kept in custody. so there is a disconnect between ice and also the local authorities there. he said he was shooting at the sea lions and accidently hit steinly. i know reading some of those

reports the father was trying to administer cpr. >> horrible. >> gruesome scene. >> he threw the gun over the pier, ran off. a bunch of bystanders took photographs of him on their cell phone. sent them to police. hiding under another pier 20 minutes later there was a reason he was relacy wanted. it wasn't an accident or snafu. it's the policy of the city of san francisco which is a sanctuary city. it's city that disobeys intentionally immigration law. >> they can't hold them even if border patrol asks them they can't do it. >> this is one of the most popular tourist destinations in san francisco. you have the warp, oyster bars, wine bars. you have tourists all over the world who come down there to san francisco bay and see the beauty of that. this was in broad daylight. he was standing there with illegal gun by the way which is another part of the story and firing off and saying is he shooting at sea lions which accumulate on the

the accident stopping the show entirely. it's not clear what caused the accident. we have fourth of july safety tips coming up this morning. also in colorado. a medical chopper crashing to the ground and bursting into flames. leaving behind a devastating scene. the pilot decorated vietnam veteran patrick that heene was killed. extwo others pulled from the inferno and they are expected to survive. no word yet on what caused the crash. >> and a sky high stop for thrill seekers in orlando. 66 people had to be rescued from the orlando i ferris wheel when the 400-foot ride grounded to a halt. it automatically shut down because of the wheel position. riders had a birds eye view of the coast line while they

take a look at this, it's the fourth of july and these temperatures are 60 degrees in chicago, 58 in cleveland. really not that bad. could be so much worse. it's certainly been hot across the west. that's going to continue. flooding concerns across areas of the southeast. flood warnings, flash flooding going on right now across parts of arkansas in through mississippi and alabama. this is going to be our target spot for the day today. we have been dealing with this front that hasn't been moving much and bringing persistent rain. sagging a little bit to the south and right here along the interstate 2 o0 line today is where we are going to be seeing the severe weather and also watching for potential flooding. rain showers across parts of the northeast. in other words, we have some scattered showers and thunderstorms that are going to cause some problems today for your barbecues and tonight for your fireworks. it's pretty spectacular. see plenty of sunshine there. out across the west and get ready in the four corners more monsoonal moisture. overall not a bad day for the fourth of july i will say.

>> i was at my job and several people had been trying to call me. and numbers i don't know i don't answer. and my brother not the one that i live with he finally called and told me brenda, you need to come home the house is on fire. and when i you did i went to mr. gordon. i burred of -- buried my head in his chest. which i got there it was gone. >> this home had been in your family since the early 1900s, right? >> yes. it was great great i think it goes back to great grand parks yes, sir. >> why are you so -- drew, i want to find out owhy she is so special to the school. >> well, ms. brenda is really special to the school because she always has a smile on her face. she is always that caring person, you know, when somebody is just having a bad day she is always the first person to run up to

candidates to speak out against you to isolate you. what's is your reaction especially on the heels of the murder in california. >> i know pataki, well. he was zero numbers. he was a terrible governor of new york. terrible. if he would have run again he wouldn't have gotten anything. he was a failed governor. and, you know, as far as rubio he is very weak on immigration and he i have been saying that for some time. i respect ted cruz. he was out there and strong on it i shouldn't say this because i assume is he opponent. the fact is he was very brave in coming out. when i i look at somebody like perry who was the governor there for a long period of time, well, he could have done something a little bit maybe a lot more in terms of protecting people because again the crime is rampant. this isn't a mexico thick. i have great relations with mexico and i love the mexican people and the spirit of the mexican people. these are people just

welcome back. getting ready to fire up the grill for the barbecue today? >> if you don't consider yourself a grill master, we can help you out. >> josh evans, executive chef of long horns steak house is here, to get you ready. nice to see you. >> nice to be here. happy fourth. >> say that you always have a problem with the meat sticking to the grill. >> easy thing you can do is i have two method. you can fill up a spray boat l with a lit cal nola oil or take a hand towel, rolled it up soaked in oil, and you take that and you want to soak the greats with it.

this will help prevent the meat from sticking. the other thing that will help is you want to make sure that the grill is smoking hot, like 500, 550 degrees. all the of that will help. >> wonderful. the key to getting the perfect steak and cook on a steak is to do what? i mean you want to put the meat out about an hour ahead of time out of the refrigerator so make sure you're not putting a coal slab of meat on the grill? >> like a frozen one. i know you're not supposed to do that. >> it all starts with the beef. go for the best quality you can find choice or prime, at your local grocery store or specialty market. you always want to go with fresh beef never frozen. it gives you a nice tender flavor when you cut into it. >> kyle carpenter joined us earlier. we asked him to stick around because, obviously this looks delicious, but if you have any grilling questions, we have an expert here because i assume you'll be doing a little grilling this fourth of july. >> you're not doing the black bean burger. these are real burgers. >> not the bean burger. i don't want to sound like a rookie in front of the

professional glad you're here but my thing would be always got to really focus on getting that temperature perfect. i like my steaks rare so -- >> rare. >> i do. >> still walking? >> still moving. no just to get that but you did answer that. 500 to 550. >> 550, helps make sure it doesn't stick. you can pick up a digital thermometer. they're relatively inexpensive. medium steak, about 140, rare probably about 130. it helps that you don't have to take the steak off an and let all the juices run out. >> which meats should go out of the refrigerator or should all be room temperature? >> a lot has to do with the thickness and what temperature you want. for a rare steak, i would actually recommend cooking right out of the refrigerator but a it's going to be a little cooler so it's going to take a little

longer. it give you a bigger bull's-eye. for a well-done steak, absolutely well done and thinner is better because it will be faster on the grill, not going to be as long. >> what about what are common mistakes when grilling fruits and vegetables? >> sticking is one, because of all the sugar and stuff in it. you want to make sure that it's hot. we did a grilled strawberry and pound cake dessert. >> look at that. >> so we soaked the strawberries in a little balsamic vinegar and sugar, then the pound cake and skewered it. that sugar on top gives you almost like a creme brulee texture. >> oh now we're talking. >> what's your best advice to keep chicken thighs on the grill and get them evenly cooked? >> chicken takes a little longer. you want to cook 165, so definitely a lower temperature for those because it is going to take longer and you want to make sure you don't burn the outside of the chicken. marinating helps. it helps provide more moisture

events. there are no specific threats targeting any location. >> but in new york boats will patrol the hudson with radiation detection equipment on board as surveillance helicopters hover high above. and in boston special attention being give on the banks of the charles river where several hundred thousands people are set to turn out for fireworks. in chicago, officers are working 12-hour shifts to protect all that city's events including a big grateful dead concert at soldier field. and in small towns across the country, the fbi is monitoring festivities minute by minute from 56 command centers that have been set up just to deal with this isis threat. one of the main reasons that isis has authorities so rattled this independence day is because its leaders are urging followers just to do whatever they can where they are. so instead of trying to detect a large-scale plot intel officials must widen their focus to try to find lone wolves like the one in boston who was killed when he lunged at officers with

a machete or the pair that tried to attack the mohamed art show in gar land texas. back to you. >> happy fourth of july. >> thank you, peter. now to your headlines starting with a "fox news alert." a fireworks show in colorado goes horribly wrong. ♪ nine people were hurt when that fireworks shot straight into the crowd. all of them with minor burns. but they're expected to be okay. the accident stopping the show entirely. it's not clear what caused the incident. and too close for comfort. two fishermen caught a nearly seven-foot-long shark on a north carolina beach. the predator pulled from the water by its tail at kill devil hills stunned vacationers gathering around snapping pictures. since the shark did not meet the state guidelines to keep it the men were forced to release it back. the catch coming after nine attacks along the carolina coast over the last month including

two teenagers who lost limbs. an incredible police dashcam video this morning out of florida. a highway trooper rushes to stop a rolling car with a 2-year-old girl inside. the trooper pulled the girl's father over for drinking and driving. he got out of the car, left the car running, sending it rolling. he chased down the car, stopped it from heading straight into a ditch. >> people are saying i saved a life and if that's the aspect that everybody wants to focus on if i did save a life i'm glad it's one that is hers. >> the girl was not hurt but her father dominic thompson, is now charged with dui and child neglect. and a wild scene at yankee stadium. rays outfielder kevin keymire hits the deck after a pigeon flies over his head. he just hit an rbi single to give team the lead in the 12th inning. other than a bruised ego, the rays lost the game in the bottom

and seeing how many people posting their proud american photos this morning. it's kind of sxlit. people are posting those and also people fired up about the story around donald trump this week and of course the back and forth between marco rubio and donald trump being the late nest this saga. marco rubio saying donald trump's comments are offensive and inaccurate. but we just heard donald trump on our show a few minutes ago responding to his statement. here's marco rubio's statement first and we'll play donald's response. "trump's comments are not just inaccurate but divisive. our next president needs to bring americans together not someone who continues to divide. our broken immigration system is something that needs to be solved. comments like this move us further fro, not closer to a solution." donald trump says illegal immigration needs to be talked about and marco rubio is not doing it well. >> we have many cases like this. nobody wants to talk about it. it seems like i'm the whipping post bringing it up.

i don't understand. whether you're liberal, conservative republican democrat why wouldn't you talk about a problem? there's tremendous crime and illegal immigration is just incredible. as far as rubio, he's very weak on immigration. i respect ted cruz for the view he's got. he was really out there and strong on it. i shouldn't say this because i assume he's an opponent, but the fact is he was very brave in coming out. >> your thoughts on donald's response to marco rubio, dana. >> reporter: well of course look immigration is going to be an issue, not the biggest issue. what's interesting is i actually think by the time republicans get into the debating season, which is just i think a month month from this thursday, the first fox debate you'll have a chance for each of them to say this is what i think. even donald trump, however, has waukd back his broad brush comment where is he said something a little too broad. he even alleged mitted that saying they're all criminals and

racists. but now we have this horrible senseless murder in san francisco illustrating his point. the right doesn't like it when the left takes one shooting and says see, everybody that has a gun the terrible. on the left i can imagine they don't like donald trump saying see, this prooufs my point. but actually he has a point. so he'll try to make it. i think marco rubio won't be provoked into saying anything more. he's looking at it from a longer haul stand point. >> the establishment hates donald trump. but a new poll this morning, an aggregation of all the polls in the race show he's leading, by a small margin, but still. here's my theory. it's not necessarily what the substance of what trump is saying but the fearlessness with which he's saying it. everybody is terrified to give their opinion because we're in witch hunt season. he doesn't care. he's saying what he think, and there's something thrilling about watching that even if you disagree with what he's saying. >> reporter: so if you're a republican and you're out talking to people like i do and find out who do do they like in the race for the last year and

a half they say we just want someone whob who will win, someone willing to fight. that is appealing on some level, but it also doesn't necessarily get you to 270 electoral votes nap's where i come back to tucker over and over again. i'm practical and realistic on this. if you take away california and new york because those go to hillary clinton no matter what if you're republican, you have to run the tables on the rest of the country, it's going to be very difficult to do so especially as the latino vote increases. it will be about 16% of the volt in 2016. so i think that everybody has to take a look at this mathematically as well as the desire to want to win, but you have to win in a persuasive manner. i think everyone is going to have to take a step back and bring their "a" game for the next four weeks. there is no margin of error between now and august 6th when the first fox debate takes place. >> dana perino live at patriot point. have a great speech. i wish we were there. have funnel. >> reporter: i'm so glad we didn't really lose power. i would have been heart broken. >> we persevere anyway because

there's truft r truth in that but we know for a fact there are more attacks this year than last year. why is that? >> anything you do to increase the likelihood of a shark and a human encounter is going to potentially increase the number of shark attacks. so it may not be that there are more sharks in the water. it may be that there are more people in the water. we've had a lot of really nice weather, dry weather, good beach days so you're increasing the likelihood of human/shark encounters by having more people in the water on more days. >> shark biologists always say sharks don't want to bite people, yet the evidence seems to suggest they do. why are they going after people? lots of baitfish in the ocean. what about americans is so appealing? >> sharks don't like to eat people but they don't have hands to pick something up and gave little sniff and a bite. all they have is a mouth. they come up sense something, take a little bite. by the time they decide this isn't for me you've lost a limb. >> did i feel to make a rational

there's a california bill that would require pro cheer leaders to be paid minimum wage. sometimes they're making as little as $5 an hour for appearances, not anything you can live off of. what do you think about this. >> i think it's just another pointing to the theme of women being taken seriously and women putting themselves out there and what happens when they do try to put themselves out there. this is a $45 billion industry -- >> football. >> and they're athletes and absolutely contribute to that culture and excite excitement. the very minimum the league can do is support them. >> we've seen a number of lawsuits. make dlrg 125 per home game so, about $1,200 per season unpaid rehearsals and appearances. what do you think they should be getting? >> i think minimum wage is the perfect thing to fight for initially because that will show them they're hourly workers and that gets them paid for practice and appearances. but i think it's another example of objectify case and financial treatment often go hand in hand.

the discovery could raise new tensions after the death of freddie gray who died from a severe neck injury suffered while being transported in a similar van back in trill. new clues in that prison break upstate new york now we know one of the suspects wrote a letter before breaking free. police killed richard matt after three weeks on the run. now we're learning days before his escape he wrote to his daughter in part "i always promised you i would see you on the outside. i'm a man of my word." police say matt's daughter never saw him and had no idea he was breaking out. meanwhile, investigators are trying to find the owner of a backpack david sweat was carrying when he was captured. police say it was stolen from a camp while the inmates hid in the woods. and a little boy makes a very big catch. 9-year-old keegan rahman from new jersey reeled in a 600-pound sturgeon during a fishing trip in canada. he's four feet tall. the fish is ten feet long. it took him two hours to catch the fish with the help of his dad. he then released it back into

welcome back. sadly, an isis threat on the fourth of july has put america on high alert. our next guest has some messages for terrorists trying to ruin our holiday weekend. >> the author of "american boomerang" and the biggest fan of from the land down under. >> nick adams, good to see you. >> july 4th how good is this? can you feel the energy? >> we just had a poll recently that showed like an all-time low, americans feeling patriotic about their country. goes back to pre-9/11 numbers right now. 54% of americans identify themselves as patriotic. what is an australian doing more patriotic than some americans? >> well it's just so important for you guys to be patriotic. i want america to be self-confident. i want america to love herself

again. and one of the reasons why america is struggling right now is that political correctness is killing you guys. you shouldn't be concerned. america is a bad country, hasn't done the right thing here or there, and the truth is that america is the greatest country in the history of the world. i think you guys have everything to be proud of and nothing to be ashamed about. anybody who tells you otherwise, you should just not even listen to them. >> how can we change? how can we turn it around and get those numbers up? >> elizabeth here's the great thing. you don't have to reinvent the wheel, don't have to do something new. all you need to do is go back to what you've always done and that is exercise your constitution and the values people social security with america. i want you guys to be optimistic. i want you to be patriotic. i want you to believe in limited government not the nanny state. i want you to have faith, not be secular. i don't want america to turn into europe. i want america to be america.

i think that is just so critical because the world's fortunes travel with america. if america isn't herself, then the world is a dangerous place. >> what's so interesting is you didn't go through american schools so you didn't spend 16 years learning about america. maybe that's one of the reasons you're higher on america than a lot of americans. >> absolutely. i think that's a big problem you're facing. you need to reclaim the classrooms from the left and politically correct agenda. right now that is diminishing america. and we're seeing real time what happens when you diminish america. there are fires all around the world, and those very people that are running the schools and the universities tucker they have more blood on their hands than abattoir worker who is just finished a 12-hour shift slaughtering hemophiliac cattle. >> and they're better paid unfortunately. nick great to see you. hope you stay in this country. >> land of the free home of the brave. >> happy fourth.
