spokesman said there was no evidence the events were connected or in any way malicious. listen. >> there is no indication that malicious actors were involved in the technology issues. >> the same goes for united airlines and new york stock exchange. united blamed it on a router yirn issue, the second time flights were delayed due to a computer glitch. and the stock exchange blamed it not on a cyberbreach. but some security analysts aren't so sure. >> i would love to know what kind of computer glitch would take down the entire new york stock exchange in conjunction with all of the flights from united that they declared it was a routing issue. something is just not adding up. >> and at the end of trading yesterday, the dow closed down 261 points. back to you. >> all right, kristin, thank you. i understand the international hacking community is anonymously

different times. san francisco mayor ed lee now blasting sheriff for not notifying the feds when alleged killer francisco sanchez wound up in his custody. >> a simple phone call from the sheriff letting him know we're about to notify them of a release of someone they gave us custody off would have been preventive of this. >> the sheriff firing his own shot back saying if he called ice, he would have been violating the law mayor lee signed into effect in 2013. we're now learning more about the gun used in the gruesome murder. the bureau of land management confirming it blopged edbelonged to one of their agents but was stolen out of a car last month. it is unclear how sanchez got his hands on it. he now sits in jail on a $5 million bail the extent of the criminal history is coming to light. listen to this sanchez has a rap sheet too long to list. several of his felonies included heroin possession manufacturing narcotics, and felony re-entry

into the u.s. california state senator jeff stone is now trying to fight those controversial sanctuary laws that don't require local officials to enforce federal immigration laws. >> i want to make sure this type of senseless murder never happens again. and so i've initiated some legislation that is going to require any public safety official from a county or city that has a felonious illegal immigrant in their custody they want to release, they have to contact ice and let them know they're going to release that convict and they have 48 hours to pick up that convict. >> stone adds if a law like this was already in place, kathryn steinle would still be alive this morning. >> jackie thank you. now to extreme weather. millions of people across 18 states bracing for severe storms today after heavy rains hit the midwest. >> in branson, missouri a woman is rescued after her suv is swept away by rushing waters while trying to cross a flooded

roadway. let's check in with maria as the storms now head northeast. >> we could be seeing some severe storms here in the northeast. but that's a perfect example of what you mentioned there of why you should not be driving through flooded roadways just don't know how deep they are, sometimes you can't tell. that's something to keep in mind across many states today, anywhere from parts of texas to parts of the northeast. we do have that potential for flooding. early this morning, we already have some heavy rain across texas panhandle. there was severe weather with that. and a confirmed tornado out there across portions of -- as that storm system moved through new mexico and texas panhandle over the past 12 hours. a lot of severe weather out there. otherwise, a very widespread area dealing with that rain early this morning, across parts of the midwest. we'll keep a close watch on many storm systems as they still have that potential to produce more flash flooding across the area. here is how much additional rainfall we're looking at. we could be looking at as much as 2 to 3 inches from the northeast back to parts of western kansas and the texas

panhandle. we have a number of flood watches and even some warnings where flooding is currently ongoing out there, places like illinois and indiana and here is a look at the severe weather risk for today. we have one area of concern across parts of the rockies, into the plains but in the northeast, we have a slight risk for severe storms including the mid-atlantic and there is also a tornado concern out there. we could be seeing a few tornadoes out there in parts of eastern pennsylvania and temperaturewise, ahead of that front, still very warm 97 degrees for your high temperature in the city of raleigh, north carolina. you factor in the humidity and it will feel hotter than the midwest, relatively cool temperatures in the 70s. anna and ainsley? >> thanks maria. she openly bashed the country that made her famous but now pop star ariana grande says it was all a misunderstanding. >> what the [ bleep ] is that?

bank in knoxville, tennessee. the family says tanner harris his wife abbie and 5-year-old son were hooded and forced into their car by two masked men. the suspects made tanner drive to the bank where he works, go inside and rob the bank. all while his wife and child were held hostage in the car outside. once he handed over the money, the suspects drove away with the wife and child and eventually left on the side of the road unharmed. a witness says she ended up in a car and then drove up to his business honking and screaming. >> she was crying really bad and shaking. we tried to open the door. she didn't know how to open the door. she didn't know where the lock was at. i had to open the door for her. >> the suspects are still on the loose. a lover's quarrel causing a transatlantic flight to change its course. a plane forced to land in boston after a man took his shirt off and began assaulting his wife in

the middle of the flight. other passengers got involved and restrained the man. the police then took over. comments about the american workers are getting some people all worked up. in a recent interview, the gop presidential candidate -- people need to work longer hours to grow the economy. now bush is saying his comments were taken out of context. what he meant was some workers can only find part time jobs and he intends to change that. and donald trump's immigration controversy is not -- in north carolina. a new poll is on top of the republican field in the tar heel state, earning 16% of the vote in the public policy polling sr veigh survey. jeb bush and scott walker are tied with 12% and mike huckabee with 11%. it is time to brew on this.

city council members are voicing their support for legislation that would allow noncitizen legal residents to vote in local elections. councilman david grasso saying residents should be able to have their voices heard. but opponents say the citizen and noncitizen registrations would cause confusion at the polls. forget one less problem. ariana grande has one big problem this morning. ♪ the pop star cooking up a lot of controversy when she visited this california doughnut shop. workers say she was rude and caught -- look at that on camera licking one of the doughnuts on top of the counter. that sparks a police investigation. but even more disturbing is how she reacted when a worker brought out the oversized doughnut.

>> here is maria in the weather center. you're tracking it all for us. good morning. >> good morning, that's right. we're tracking several areasrstorm activity early this morning, a pretty busy radar cross the nation. you have showers out west in places like new mexico very heavy rain across the texas panhandle and showers and storms pushing through parts of the midwest. we have that flood potential throughout the day today. we're talk about several inches of rainfall from texas all the way to parts of the northeast. we have a number of watches that have been issued because of that flood concern across many of the states. now, the other concern with these storms is the risk for severe weather. just a marginal risk across areas in the west and rockies and plains. but across the northeast, we have a slight risk issued across places like maryland pennsylvania and also a tornado risk out there. make sure you have a way to get the warnings out there, northwestern new jersey you're included in that area. high temperatures ahead of the system so very warm and very muggy out there, temperatures well into the 90s and the carolinas, behind that system a little cooler highs in the 70s
