hills, california. the headlines continue for donald trump. he was out there at the beverly wilshire hotel. and he is talking about immigration. he had a chance to meet with some of the families of victims of violence caused by illegal immigrants. he said, look, no one is talking about this. no one wants to talk about it because it's uncomfortable. here is what he said yesterday at the beverly wilshire hotel. whenever somebody hears that it was an illegal that was involved with the death of their children, it becomes politically incorrect for a politician to help them. that's how messed up our nation is. the problem is the country of mexico has leaders that are far smarter than ours. they are sending people in to our country that we don't want but we take and they don't want. >> he goes on to say not just smarter but more

cunning. in that mexican leaders are taking advantage of the american immigration system systematically. what he is doing has been calling it out and obviously getting a huge reaction. >> he is saying this political correctness is something that shouldn't be stood for when people are dying in some cases at the hands of illegal immigrants who in this case that we had out in san francisco. this guy had been deported five different times and had seven felony convictions. >> unbelievable. he didn't walk those earliest comments back yesterday. he said some of my earlier comments were taken out of context. and asked whether rnc chair rine priebus asked to tone down his rhetoric. he said he called. we had a good conversation can. it's you it's your personality. it's big it's bold. no one is going to tell you how to run your campaign. >> rallying effect. families who have felt marginalized so lock. victims of violence. someone is speaking up for them. whether it's inartful or too brash sometimes.

first which i guess we shouldn't be doing anymore in light of this segment. let me ask. tell me about the law you in if i . let me ask about the law. >> it doesn't start about churches as implied by the earlier segment. you are still going to hear i now pronounce you husband and wife at every marriage so we can still look forward to that. it certainly doesn't extend to the privacy of your own home or the work place or anything like that. i am married. i love my husband very much. i certainly continue -- plan on continuing to call him my husband, et cetera. we are just talking about in the eyes of the law. here is why. because, now that same sex marriage is legal the government no longer has to make the distinction between same sex marriage, traditional marriage, whatever. it's all the same in the eyes of the law. that's why the language reflect that. >> it's the law and the language should reflect

that. the author of this bill she says our values as a country are reflected in our laws just as christie is arguing. i author this bill because it's imperative that our federal code reflect the equality of all marriages. is this not inevitable because of what the supreme court has done husband and wife are going to leave our federal code? >> yeah. i mean, my question is how far are we going to go as a country to stand back and say look we are politically correct. here we are. lots of people that are married enjoy the title husband. enjoy the title wife. i don't know what's next. how far are we going to go. and is this really what congress should be doing right now? >> that's a great point. christie, is this something congress should be spending time on and where does it end? not just with that but why gender at all? why gender at all in federal code if it's not husband and wife? why male and female? does it eventually go there? >> well, i think we make a lot of traditional gender based assumptions in our

morning. let's dive into this sohio. getting some controversy and mtv says look the show aims to challenge whiteness and help address racial bias. is this the start of a good conversation? >> i doubt it very seriously. i think there ought to be a conversation. i think most people have the conversation in the wrong way. if you are going to talk about race we have to start with what you know to be a fact this t. is a crude delinquent yart of people that doesn't have a biological basis at all. when we talk about white people in a generalized way what are we really saying we are not saying anything at all. all sorts of white people as there are all sorts of black people. to talk about any issues in a racial context generally just confuses things. >> discussing whiteness and figuring out what it means to be white. is mtv striking a cord here? >> i doubt it. i also think it's a good conversation to have. but everywhere else i have seen this particularly college campuses those kind of things. it doesn't seem to be productive. it seems to be counter productive if you look at all the training about microaggressions don't say

law are on the books and they're being ignored. how is this different? >> they're really not on the books. this is mandatory. this takes discretion away from the judges who don't want to enforce, the d.a.s who don't want to enforce. they don't have any discretion. part of this law was if you're a state or local official and you don't enforce kate's law, you get arrested. and now we'll see, now we'll see the enforcement level. it will go up. and believe me word will get down to mexico and those criminal aliens won't come back because the cops can pick them up. the cops know who they are. and bang they're in federal court anl here we go. so it will be a lot harder for criminal aliens all over the world to come here. >> kate's law needs your help. it's getting your help and needs everybody's help at home. of selecting the gender of their next child. do you see any problem with that? >> i see no problem with it at all. again, in addition to selecting the gender of the child, what they're really doing is balancing their families. it's rare for a cup toll show up for a first baby wanting to choose the gender. they come in with three boys at home and they're after a girl or three girls at home and they're after a boy. >> balancing the family. dr. simonian balancing their family sounds a bit like inknock louse language. you call it a slippery slope. what do you mean by that? >> i think it's a slippery slope. i don't think that balancing the family is a good enough reason for picking the gender of the child. this is something, you know, which is available now, which is wonderful. we have choices. but as physicians we're obligated to limit our patients' choices. certain things are not ethical, and i think that choosing our child's sex is unethical unless it's for medical reasons. >> doctor what do you say? what do you say to this ethical

argument as opposed to the medical argument? is there any merit to it? >> i take absolute dispute with that. as physicians we are not obligated to limit our patients' choices. if anything we're supposed to expand our patients' choices. regarding ethics, these are reasonable arguments made by reasonable people. the problem is there's a disagreement. what do we do when there's disagreement? respect each other's opinions and choices and liberties. there's a liberty of reproductive choice in the united states. and every time someone's tried to tread on it it's been a disaster. >> dr. simonian you mentioned china as an example of the type of slippery slope where there isn't this choice. you see this gender selection could lead to unintended consequences down the road. what do you mean by that? >> i do. i don't think it's going to be quite as severe as what happened in china where now at a certain age group there are about 80 million more men than women. but i see it happening perhaps

in serp groups, certain ethnic groups perhaps who desire the male fetus more than the female fetus. i don't want to see this kind of thing happen here in any way or form. >> so dr. steinberg, some call these designer babies. i have two little boys myself right now. we've got a third on the way in just two months. we don't know the sex of that baby. and we sort of like the idea of not knowing. does this take away the mystery? how much of this does this lead to sort of a dystopian view that we're selecting male/female and could it leave children that the two buys that i have saying why don't you want a boy? why do you want a girl? am i not good enough for you? >> oh of course it's possible but the reality of it is -- i'd like to go back to the china instance, for example. china just allowed people to have second babies. so they were all having boys. we're seeing a flood of chinese patients coming in with a request for females. so as human beings we've got

this built-in need for balance. women are very important. men are very important. and there's something built into us that says we should be balanced. that's really what's driving all of this. >> certainly a lot of gender topics today. you mentioned the word balance. as you talk about balancing in selecting kids we seem to be going away from balance in celebing our partners as the federal government is moving towards -- recognizing all forms of same-sex marriage and same-sex relationships, a different form of balance there. i thank both doctors for being with me this morning, one who practices it one who brings up the ethical argument. a great debate we'll continue. thank you for joining us. up next, the moment you've all been waiting for. i've been waiting for. we'll take a ride on that giant water slide like adult man-kids. the great big plunge is next.
