morning. >> let's get to that fox news alert this morning. this morning as chattanooga and the nation mourn the loss of four great americans we are learning more about the gunman abdulazeez and why he murdered four nehemiah cold blood. >> good morning ainsley. >> good morning anna. let me tell you the latest. the gunman was heavily armed at the time of the shooting. he had three guns on him at the time of the shooting two handguns and long gun. load bearing vest which allows him to carry more ammo. police seized from his house, a rifle a cell phone and a computer. they have not found an extensive online presence. last year he traveled to jordan and spent seven months visiting an uncle. friends say when he came home he was distant and changed. he visited kuwait and jordan as well with. his father was also investigated and cleared twice for financing terrorism. here is a picture of the four marines that the fbi says that he shot and killed.

' the governor is still calling for all of the flags here in the state of tennessee to be flown at half-staff back to you. >> heart felt ways in which people are memorializing in just a moment. being radicalized overseas.

it was long thought that he was sitting in the basement on the internet it may have been much more nefarious spending time in jordan for seven months. >> possibly in yemen. this is a theme in many shootings we have seen over the past 10 years. traveling to yemen. a hot bed of islamic extremism. >> this guy is bright, right? he is educated, electrical engineer. went to the university of at the present see at chattanooga. and somehow he was radicalized. we know that his father was on a watch list at one point and was taken off. accused of funding terror. >> we're also learning some remarkable facts this morning that he was employed at a nuclear power plant facility. now, he didn't have direct access to like the core or anything like that but for a short time he was employed at a nuclear power plant facility. imagine, and this was before his trip to jordan, imagine what would have unfold would

if he had direct access. >> that was a short time. >> a total of 10 days. in the first hours after this tragedy occurred, many news organizations described this as a lone wolf attack. meaning there was not an obvious conspiracy to murder these four marines. last night though on the megyn kelly program brad thor a novelist and security analyst made the point could this really be a lone wolf attack? watch. >> i'm not a big fan of the term lone wolf, how many lone wolfs does it take to make a pack? went through the whole list fort hood, the boston bombers, the two tsarnaev brothers. these guys are not self-radicalizing. the internet is a global community. they are finding like minded people out there who are encouraging not even radical, fundamentalist interpretation of islam. this administration is not able to counter that threat unless we are ready to counter the ideology. >> it's an interesting point. i guess really can't have

lone wolfs anymore. not like 1850s all connected constantly by the internet. this idea that even if you are by yourself is you are still connected to that community. >> endless stream of propaganda emanating from your laptop. >> they are all reading the same doctrine, the psalm sorts of things we saw. cryptic messages on a couple of blog posts that mohammed abdulazeez put on a newly posted blog. also in his high school yearbook there was some quote that said my name throws up national security ar letters. what does yours do? gloating about it. >> that close up picture right there where he is smiling with the beard on. that has become the "avatar" of thousands of people across the world. isis twitter accounts linked to isis tweeting out this picture changing "avatars" as this guy has been martyred. >> this has been going on an awful long time the united states facing the scourge of islamic extremism for 15

years now. you think the news coverage would get smarter and better. in a lot of ways it has gotten dumber. two sound bites from a cable news network. this is how they covered this. watch this. >> i know what the name sounds like but we don't know it's a muslim name. we know it's arabic name. we don't know what this individual was believing in. that's what they are going to try to be be determined. >> what worries me is how it will be perceived by the public is a muslim militant attack. i'm already seeing among friends in the national security community a rising sense of anti-islamic sentiment. i'm worried that that will feed into more attacks like this and undercut the efforts to reach out to the american muslim community. >> so the average american can't call them muslim extremists and terrorists but they can call each other that in fact abdulazeez is becoming an internet idol among these jihadis. they are all changing their profile pictures to his face. >> the name mohammed is an islamic name to throw it out

there: and secondly, something horrible like this happens and the very first concern is not for the victims or their families or for the threat that we face from islamic extremism but that america itself will somehow turn on its muslim population. they really believe that america is filled with, you know bitter, anti-muslim racists who are going to rise up and start race rights. that's exactly the sentiment you saw on cnn. >> target looking more closely surveilling mosques across the country. charles krauthammer says it's time to stop being politically correct. listen. >> there is a phobia about targeting mosques as places where we get information. but that's exactly where you have to go. i mean, it's so politically correct. it's so insane not to do that. because you would be afraid of a bias or a prejudice. these shooters are not randomly chosen from the population. you don't have infinity

resources. you have to target where you are looking and you will get the information from the mosques. >> i think the word targeting though is misused. it's not like abscam we want fbi guys in a van with satellite dishes sitting out in a van targeting mosques. it's the idea with building relationships with mosque leaders. you see something you say something. developing relationships across the country with these mosques so if something stands out to you as a mosque leader, you discuss it with the fbi you tip them off about something. not sitting out there targeting them. >> we are not powerless here. we have had increase in muslim terror because you have had increase in muslim population. this is result of our immigration policy. i don't know why somebody doesn't say that outloud but it's true. >> de blasio has handcuffing local law enforcement against that here in new york city and to your point clayton, you know, we do need moderate muslims to speak out and make the distinction between their

of another deadly rampage not so long ago. in 2009 major nidal hasan opened fire at fort hood military base in texas. he murdered 13 people and injured dozens more. the next guest narrowly escaped being shot by hasan. he said he might have been able to stop him if fort hood wasn't a gun free zone by federal law. have we tied our military's arms by not allowing them to defend themselves state side. sergeant joins us now. thanks for joining us this morning. >> thank you tucker. >> you believe if this law had not been in place in 2009 you would have been able to stop the rage at fort hood. >> that's a fact. countless hours of training inside and outside of the army and the truth of the matter is every time we find ourselves in these situations, we are without a doubt going to be victimized every time. >> so i'm confused by this policy. the military, by definition,

are trained to use firearms. that's what they do, that's their job. why would they not be allowed to carry them on a military base? >> you know, honestly, for me it's unbelievable that this policy even in place. i am sure it has to deal with some kind of politically correct way of appeasing somebody. but, let me rest assured or let me assure the public here of one thing. that is between the first fort hood shooting in 2009, the second fort hood shooting in 2014 and the subsequent shootings that have happened at recruiting stations. we have almost 100 people dead or wounded. now, i have heard the president and other people, high brass and military say we are sorry. let me tell you something from all of us victims the victims' families, the survivors, we are tired of "i'm sorry." i'm sorry has cost the lives of some people and hurt some

families. it's time to change this policy. it's ridiculous and it's absurd. if you can't trust your soldiers then why do you have an army? >> that's exactly right there. is one group you would want to have firearms really at all times it would be your professional soldiers. so, i mean, after the fort hood shooting took place you were there you survived it. i mean, people made this point, did they not? >> absolutely. and each time something similar to this has come up, it is mentioned over and over. again, starting with the white house and on to the pentagon, each time it's brought up it's well, we are not going to discuss this. well, why not? for me and for the other people that i have talked to regarding this issue are you telling us that you are okay with our men and women dying the way they are? because, frankly unless you change the policy, that's exactly what you are telling the family members of the fallen and those that are wounded in each one of these

tops the latest fox news poll with 18%. how long did he hold on to this momentum here to debate communications director amanda carpenter and democratic strategist steven cob. nice to see both of you this morning. >> thanks for having us. >> is this infighting among republicans good for donald trump? >> well, certainly not good for donald trump the more they attack him the tougher he is going to have to find his way to success in the primaries. but i think first and foremost donald cares about donald trump and the more he is in the headlines and the more attention he has the happier is he going to be. >> infighting is he rising in the polls. so to steven point have to claw his way through the primary is he leading in primary voters right now. >> if you look at the way the race is being covered right now. most of the press is covering trump from entertainment perspective. listen, he spent billions of dollars building his personal brand. he has the best name id that money can buy. he is doing well and almost a reality atmosphere format. but with 10 republicans in

the field. he is going to have to eventually prove that he has what it takes to build a real presidential campaign. if you look at what he is doing in terms of money raising. he has only raised 1. the $9 million. i think $1.8 million of that was a lone -- loan to himself is. not building email lists and getting donor donations. for that reason i don't see a long term viable candidacy for donald trump. >> we did a number of polls here unofficially last weekend we had thousands and thousands of people writing in last weekend saying initially they were skeptical. as donald started talking more and more about the issues that were effecting them, most concerning for them around the dinner table that they started to pay attention and now they are starting to support him. so, this talk, him being out there in the media showing his policies, having him in front of the microphone is really helping him. >> it is. well and again, the biggest thing he talks about in any of his interviews is the fact that he is able to get all of these free media

coverage so he doesn't need to raise as much money. herman cain or michele bachmann history tells us early flashes in the pan are not necessarily indicative of a successful future campaign. i think time will tell and it's going to be very interesting to see how he holds up against some of these more seasoned debaters when they get on the debate stage together and really start talking about policy and their vision for their future presidency. >> the behind the scenes organizing that you guys are talking about here, you are talking about building the email list and having that structure is obviously so important to these campaigns. we certainly saw that with barack obama. and what it didn't -- i mean what didn't happen on the republican side last time as far as online organizing. but you brought up a great point, amanda about the way in which the media is covering as a side show, a circus can. the huffington post political page has decided to not cover donald trump's campaign in the politics section instead of moving it to the entertainment section. here is ryan brim a quote

from him we decided not to the huffington post basically saying amanda we don't like the news so we are going to move it off of this page because we don't agree with it. >> i actually think this is a brave stance by the liberal writers at the huffington post there are a lot of people in the liberal media who are interesting in building up the candidacy of donald trump because they think that he is the ticket to sabotaging the g.o.p. primaries. so while this isn't s. an unexpected move. i may not agree with of it. i do think it's courageous. let's not forget there is a long history with huffington post. arianna is unattractive and can understand why her husband left her for another man. that has no place in the political debate. i'm okay with their

here is the problem i have with it. a if you do it you shouldn't talk about it in public because your kids are going to read about it later. b as the father of i don't remember a lot of their young childhood it's stressful and so much going on. anything that eliminates your memory any more is gressing. you want to look back and remember it. >> how about all the parents. >> help yourself sooth, i can't communicate with my kids and have a discussion about what's bothering you you are yelling. the kids are trying to send a signal. instead of communicating with you i'm going to cloud that by smoking pot every day or drink myself into a stooper. >> find a better way like knitting or cleaning or exercising or something else to deal with your stress or talking it out. how many parents though are on prescription medication and just because a doctor was the one who wrote them a prescription for xanax. >> a lot of them. but when you look back and all you can summon in this your memory is this haze you are going to regret that big time. >> that's a good point. >> let us know your thoughts

ff weekend and weigh in on this story. >> some the making headline, a day after the deadly attack in chattanooga. these pictures putting staten island on edge. a retired police officer spotting a family appeared to hold a semiautomatic rifle. police locking down a nearby coast guard station to track down the family. turns out the weapons were paint ball guns and the family was loading them up to go play with friends. and now to another terrifying moment caught on camera. a woman captured this hooded man on video trying to break into her home while she and her kids were sleeping upstairs. lisa mckenzie of wails saw the camera one week earlier after she noticed scratches on her back door. the man had a torch and a wiper blade bent into a hook but did not get. in police have increased patrols around her home. talking about a diamond in the rough. a florida dog ate her engagement ring. she was relaxing on the couch and noticed her french bulldog named tux was biting

and i said it was pretty tough. and he said, you know, i had been injured and wounded and it was pretty tough. his response was well, if you had gotten out of the reserve like i had told you to, this wouldn't have happen. you pretty much deserve everything you got. which was obviously a stunning and shocking response to me since, you know, i had just gotten back to work. yeah that was pretty shocking. >> and you are not the only one, more than a dozen others are you on this. what were some the terrible names you say you were called and give us some other examples. >> well, for example one of the emails, my different supervisor had sent me called me a poisonous pansy. we just recently had my current or just previously on memorial day my assistant special agent in charge sent emails to the other complainants in this calling them cowards which we

thought was just absolutely incredible. and they just do an asundry of things over the course of years that, you know, we don't get -- we get kind of demeaning assignments or they won't send us to training. or we will get noncompetitive scores for promotion. things like that. >> wow so subtleties in some cases. our producers found some examples from inside that complaint file. here is one. they told a navy officer you may be commander in the navy but you are not explicative here, another one they told a green beret to stop playing army. told a marine corps reservist to choose one job or the other. finally two marines were called cowards and ordered to never speak to their superior again. how does that make you feel after serving your nation? >> it's infeweriating. i would have never thought in a million years that you would come back from deployment and this is the

treatment that you would receive. and what's really disturbing, you know, we are all federal law enforcement officers expected to uphold the laws of the united states. and, you know, the uniform services employment, and reemployment act covers these matters of discrimination yet t dea in this case is the worst of the offenders and believe me, i have spoken to probably near 50 agents now. and a lot of them are not just from dea. from all over the globe and other agencies, expecting the same concerns. but, several of them, most of them have not come forward just for the fear of the retaliation that come from this. >> colonel you say you only have about six months left in the job that you are doing this for the future. of folks who may be put in the same predicamentment. we do thank you so much for your time and we wish you well. folks at home. of course we did reach out to the dea for a statement. they said that they could not comment on the situation

killed in deadly attack in chattanooga. >> federal investigators pouring over the pass to find out why he murdered those marines in cold blood two days ago at the center of the investigation his trip to jordan. >> ainsley hair hart live with the new details this morning. good morning ainsley. >> good morning clayton tucker and anna. we know he took four trips to jordan. as recent as last year coming home in november of 2014. muslim majority country as you know. investigators are trying to determine if he had any contact with radical terrorist groups or any extremists there. police did seize a computer, cell phone and other electronics from his house. they have been flown to washington, d.c. for forensic analysis. the fbi is following up on 70 different leads from local law enforcement about the suspect's actions. at the time of the shooting, he was heavily armed had three guns, a handgun and two long guns. he was wearing a load bearing vest which allows him to carry even more ammo. the vest was not

chattanooga, they are all connected by the ideology, by the stuff they consume on the internet. this is a global network of jihadi activists and we are only going to beat it if we attack it as a network. >> yeah, they are all submitting to the same doctrine call them lone wolf and call them what you want. they all have the same goal and it is working as we mentioned. isis their media posts per day, we have numbers upwards of 90,000, which just seems absolutely wild. what do we need to do? do we need to take down these social media accounts? >> no. we can't really do that, because as soon as one is taken down they will create another one in a region that we can't control. we have to use social media to attack their ideology to make it seem illegitimate and to talk about the things that make them vulnerable. make them us is susceptible. we have to go on the offensive. exactly as we did during the cold war, we have to support the reformers. the way the reagan

work closely with the obama administration that have been pushing and pushing and pushing and objecting to have having any kind of detention of families. they have added more and more amenities. you wonder why more and more people keep walking across that border from central america and other places. the whole conception of detention is deterrence. the administration has conceded in a court they are not going to use it for deterrence. only detain people if you can show they are a flight risk. well, they are not going it find people any way after they release them. a backlog of half a million. millions of other illegal aliens not being apprehended. in the end the administration is probably going to stop detaining people at all in some of these centers prettien so. but, in the end it's underscores the whole collapse. i think what donald trump is saying the american people are sick and tired of pay fog dysfunctional immigration system that is a shambles, a shanel being a sham, and a shame. >> let's be completely honest here. people formulating this policy some of them don't buy in to the traditional

notion of american citizenship that is that there is a between citizens and noncitizens. a lot of these people are going to wind up voting illegally. that's going to happen if you have drivers license, if you are being treated as a protected class how are we going to be sure that in 2016 election, significant numbers of illegals aren't voting? >> tucker, in october auto years ago the democrat party changed immigration policy with a major law. 50 years later it's clear that immigration has changed the democrat party. and now you see people like jerry brown and others who are blurrings distinction between citizen and alien. they there are all these efforts to provide all kinds of benefits and incentives for those who come illegally. all sorts of ways of office skating that distinction including the people here vote not eligible. in the end what you really have are people who have pushed these detention centers who do not agree fundamentally with the idea that we should limit immigration, control immigration, or detain aliens while they wait for proceedings which take way

too long and cost too much. what they are really trying to do is called, you know, overwhelming the system. they have done a great job for six years. >> very quickly dan immigration is completely changed the nature of america, the experience of every one of us who was born here and lives here. sure. >> the average american has no way to influence the system at all. no one asks us who should be let in and the numbers. how can the average person influence the system at f. at all. >> previous campaigns in 2008 2010, and 2012. barack obama never campaigned for mass amnesty program. we have seen now republican candidates repeatedly promise, certainly 2010, 2014, we have seen promises to do something as soon as the voting booth is done and voting is done they suddenly turn around too hard can't get that done. people are going to have to what we need, of course, are presidential candidates and santorum, some extent rick walker obviously hearing robust discussion on the republican side. hillary clinton is going to have to answer basic core

sad news to report at this hour. fox news alert. the death toll in the chattanooga krorterror attack has risen to five. the family of randall smith just confirming to fox news channel that he has died from his injuries. smith was a reservist serving on active duty in chattanooga. four marines were also killed in thursday's attack. >> so now we have five. gets so much harder when you find out the victims' names and hear their stories. >> it really does. and it wasn't a cross section of america. it was the best of america. not average people who were killed it was great people. >> and you can sebringing people together in that community in ways in which the folks of chattanooga are showing their -- me moralizing those who have

officer randall smith has confirmed to fox news that he has succumbed to his injuries. >> what can you tell us? >> reporter: such a sad story to report this morning. randall smith, he was 26 years old, a navy sailor seriously injured by this gunman on thursday and has now died as a result of those injuries. he's from ohio. died this morning of extensive damage to the liver and the colon colon. he had several surgeries after being shot three times. leaves behind a wife three little girls under the age of 6. i did speak to his step grandmother. she was crying on the phone. said that he died this morning at 1:19 this morning. said he was a very fine young man, that he loved his family and that he loved the navy. also a cousin got word this morning from randall's mother telling her to please get to her knees and pray, that randall's wife had gotten word this morning to bring the pastor. the total now of the victims who

have died is now at five. police say the gunman who they shot dead killed these four marines as well on thursday. gunnery staff sergeant thomas sullivan lance corporal squire "skip" wells, holmquist and david wyatt. what do we know about the gunman, that he at least took four trips to jordan. the last trip coming home just this last november. it's a muslim majority country, as you know. investigators are trying to determine if he had any contact with radical terrorist groups or any extremists when he was there in jordan. police seized a cell phone, a computer and other electronics from his house. they've flown all those items to d.c. trying to get some forensic analysis and learn a little bit more about who he was. so anna clayton, and tucker the fbi are telling us this morning they're following 70 different leads from local law enforcement to learn more about the suspect. back to you. >> thanks so much. >> and we're hearing this morning how the family members

became radicalized. a guy from kuwait tight knit community, played with friends in the neighborhood, a normal kid. trips to jordan now the focus of this investigation. so apparently he went over to jordan. he may have also gone to yemen which has been a destination for a lot of jihadis from around the world. there were not signs apparently of his growing islamic extremism. our friend grif jenkins spoke to his neighbors, and they said he was just a normal kid. >> he was a nice kid. knew him from adolescence. and he never caused any trouble in the neighborhood. never. he was a good polite kid. and he came from a good upbringing. >> a normal guy like me and you. we used to ride go-karts and play xbox. all the kids in the neighborhood used to hang out, so it's quite a big shock. >> always playing with a couple guys across the street playing

gun-free zones. after the deadly shooting rampage in chattanooga, should it be? this picture is heartbreaking. the windows to the recruiting center shot up with a sign banning firearms. should this policy be changed to make certain it doesn't happen again? joining us now, a marine corps veteran, and the director of the accountability project. thanks so much for joining us. mickey you just heard it from a man who was there at ft. hood several years ago when a crazy person came in and murdered many of his compatriots. he said if i had a firearm, i would have been able to stop the massacre before it continued. why shouldn't he be able to do that? >> there is a directive signed under george bush sr. department of defense saying there are specific trained officers at military bases who are allowed to do so or any area where there is military presence. >> so where were they? >> that's a good question. but the reality is there should be someone there. and they're not always protecting them. just last year the first --

there was a shooting on a base and the first person to be shot was that trained professional. this is not something that's been proven to be more effective at defending people and, in fact most military personnel, experts in this have said that by making gun-free zones, you're just opening up the opportunity for massive shooting sprees because 34% of the trained individuals are shooting effectively. >> i'm not a veteran, but my understanding was that most soldiers and marines were by definition trained to use firearms correct? maybe all of them. >> that's correct. i mean marines are -- every marine is a rifleman no matter what their job is. they're all trained and experts in what they do. >> so what exactly is the point of this? why of all places would you ban a military recruiting station from having armed men? i'm totally confused. >> well they're not banning them entirely. there is an exception to this rule.

>> that's not true. >> but they're all trained. >> chris served in the marine corps. chris, your view. >> okay in the gun-free zones, what she's saying is like calling a police officer to a gun-free zone and saying you can't come in because you have a gun. but if you or your family were in there, you'd want that police officer to come protect you. so these recruiting stations are akin to that. they should have these trained officers inside the recruiting stations that are recruiters. there's a period of instruction that they could add to the recruiter school. make one person responsible for carrying a firearm at the recruiter, and that way they're not waiting to become a target. they can actually welcome in the public and if a threat presents itself they can prevent it. threat detection is key here. prevention is -- it's like reading a book backwards. these policies of gun-free zones, we're not learning from our history. in 2009, this exact incident happened. >> and the first person shot was that person. >> i'm going to give you an opportunity with just a second left to state very clearly why a

up. you forget you signed up for certain services that are $2.99 a month, but a lot of the things that we use every day, like the home phone or cell phone, have all these hidden fees that you can knock down, too. your first tip is the home phone. >> right. >> who uses that anymore? >> you know i think that we see older generations who are still reliant on phones. also new families they like the safety of having a land line. it's just good for security purposes. the average fee is about $40 a month. a lot of cable providers and wireless providers bundle that in. but that's a big expense over the course of a year especially if you're not using it. the best thing is to set up an internet home phone service which connects to your wi-fi. it's free. you just pay applicable taxes and fees. so you're saving an average of $480 over the course of a year just by doing that. the one company is ooma that you can look up. >> okay. get rid of the home phone. we don't really need that. a lot of people have them for security systems. adt. you don't need them because adt

has the wireless. excess mobile data. >> so 85% of mobile users purchase more data than they actually use. and we forget to review our bills and see how much we're using. i recommend looking over your bill or track it the next couple of months and then reduce it. you can probably reduce it by $20. the average that people pay more that they don't use is around $20 a month and you're looking at saving $240 a year. then use the 3g watchdog app, which will alert you when you're nearing that data expiration when you're about to cap off so you don't get charged fees. use that wi-fi finder on your phone. >> unused gym memberships and some useless bank fees also. >> that's right. so useless bank fees. if you're paying for a checking account fee, which is about $15 if you're not meeting certain requirements that's a waste of money. so what you might want to do is switch to your local credit union. they waive those fees so you're saving $180 almost over the year. unused gym memberships. if you signed up in january, it's seven months into the year

you're probably not going to use it. cancel it the average cost is $58 a month for a membership. you'll save $700 a year. purchase an elliptical or an exercise gadget. >> just walk. >> or go for a walk. >> food waste. >> this is big. the natural resources defense council says that americans waste $165 billion a year. you know, you buy a lot of groceries, end up tossing it. i do this. so what i recommend doing is using a meal-planning service like the fresh 20 which is a meal planning service that uses 20 ingredients. mixes and matches those for the week to give you new recipes so you don't waste food and you can save $500 over the year by not throwing away that food. >> that's great. finally, the too lazy to coupon. >> i think a lot of people look at couponing like a big task. they don't want to clip coupons. but a lot of surveys show it could save you a lot of money. in fact, an average family can save a thousand dollars by just looking for coupons. spending just 20 minutes a week.
