9:01 am
the family revealing that the suspect suffered from depression and say the shootings may have been the result that have condition, not as many point to his alleged adherence to radical islamic terrorism, all this as investigators are looking deeper into exactly what motivated that gunman and whether he had any ties to terrorist groups who was influenced by them on the internet or when he went to jordan and kuwait last year. john roberts joins us with more from chattanooga. john? >> reporter: eric. good afternoon. talk to you from the organic memorial that has emerged and grown up over the last few days in front of the recruiting center where the shooting first started. let's go into detail. first time we're hearing from the family of muhammad youssef abdulazeez since the horrible act on thurs statement expressing condolences to the families of the five members who died and the one police officer who was badly wounded saying the person who created this horrible crime was not the son we knew and loved and gave us insight into his mind. for many years our son suffered from depression and grieves us
9:02 am
beyond belief that his pain found its expression in this heinous act of violencech the fbi now diligently trying to answer the question of why all of this happened. they have agents in jordan dras tracing abdulazeez's movements and the fbi investigating a text message abdulazeez sent to his friend that said whatsoever shows enmity to a friend of mine then i have declared war against him. the man says it was simply encurrent emergency for a job dilemma and the fbi in its diligence leaving no stone unturned. let's walk you through a little bit. amazing to see the way the people of chattanooga have come together planting flags and ribbons and leaving stuffed animals, messages. thank you for your service and praying for everyone. nooga strong nooga strong, chattanooga strong. over here land of the free
9:03 am
because of the brave. people have been coming here all day every day for the last three days. it's almost a procession of vehicles going in and out. a little earlier today sort of impromptu street church emerged out of here. there were a lot of complaints. they were not showing enough support for the military and for the police officers who responded so heroically to the shooting on thursday and the man addressing the crowd pointed the finger at the white house and said the president is not enough. >> why isn't the flag on half staff right now? what isn't the white house lit up red, white and blue and why aren't we doing something? >> obviously emotions running very high here in chattanooga. a lot of talk since thursday since force protection. the governors in six states not in tennessee, taking steps to arm national guard members, but that -- while that would have probably helped here because there is a national guard reyouthing office along with the recruiting offices of the other branches of the military. it lookly wouldn't have done anything over the site where the
9:04 am
four marines were killed and then the navy petty officer was shot because that is a navy facility no national guard there. eric that would need to be addressed on a national level. duncan hunter republican of california will be introducing legislation to that effect probably next week. >> all right, john. it really was an attack on our country and so heartbreaking, that memorial so stirring. thank you so much. >> well the iran nuclear deal now on the clock after congress receives it from the obama administration. lawmakers now have 60 days to review it and either accept or reject what was negotiated. meanwhile, critics are getting ammunition from iran's supreme court leader who says the deal will have no effect on iran's policy towards the u.s. national security correspondent jennifer griffin is live in washington with more and jennifer yesterday was pretty alarming to hear the death to america chants as we try to negotiate with iran. >> well that's right, julie. secretary of state kerry will be
9:05 am
on the hill this week testifying answering questions from skeptical lawmakers and trying to sell this deal to congress. a 60-day review period kicks in on monday. meanwhile in iran as you mentioned, there are no illusions that relations between iran and the west are warming. >> translator: when the deal is approved or disapproved, we will never stop supporting our friends in the region and the people of palestine, yemen, syria, iraq bahrain and lebanon, even after this deal our policy towards the u.s. will not change. >> kerry spoke to chris wallace on fox news sunday after the arms embargo being lifted against iran in other years. >> we have many other sanctions still applicable and we can bring other sanctions to push back against any of their behavior. they are not allowed to send arms to the hezbollah. that's a separate resolution. >> on the issue of whether any time anywhere inspections will detect iranian nuclear activity
9:06 am
given that they have 24 days to protest inspections if the u.s. and others suspect a violation, here's energy secretary ernest monize one of the lead negotiators, also speaking to chris wallace. >> what will happen if the process runs the full length of 24 days the iaea inspectors will take environmental samples. when environmental samples are taken and nuclear activity has taken place, it is virtually impossible to clean up that place. you can paint the floors can you do what you want. we feel very confident that one would find the evidence of nuclear activity. >> defense secretary ash carter leaves for israel today where he will try to sell the iran deal addressing both israeli and saudi concerns. julie? >> jennifer griffin, thank you very much. eric? >> julie, less than a week after the deal was struck, they are lining up to try and make money, cashing in on the hundreds of billions of dollars in trade with iran now that the sanctions will be lifted. the german economic minister arriving in tehran today, and
9:07 am
the u.s. admits that we cannot stop iran from using all the dough to support terrorism. as you know supporters say the deal does stop iran from building a nuclear bomb though critics charge it will do just that when the deal expires in 15 years, and as for the supreme leader ayatollah khamenei is reporting, he continues to slam our country and the crowds in tehran still shout death to america. ambassador john bolton former u.n. ambassador to the u.n. joins us a fox news contributor and senior fellow at the american enterprise institute. ambassador in the end do you think we have helped or hindered our enemy? >> there is no question that we have paved the way for arm to get deliverable nuclear weapons at a time of its choosing. many of the things that you just heard from the secretary of energy and the secretary of state are simply not true. i wonder if they have read their own deal. i mean we can go through specifics, but just one point. secretary kerry saying we can put sanctions back in.
9:08 am
the deal says in its text in at least two separate places that it's the position of iran if any sanctions are put back or new sanctions added that frees iran from any further obligation in whole or part under the deal. in other words, if they are caught violating the deal and we try to reimpose sanctions, their position is they are out of the deal which, again, raises the question what kind of deal is this? >> so basically there's no penalty if they violate it? >> well the only penalty is that once they are out the sanctions that we've imposed come back into play but i'll tell you where you started this segment i think is extremely important. european businessmen and women are poised all over the continent of europe to ink deals with iran by the end of this year. the pressure on the european governments to let that commerce open again is overwhelming and others feel the same way. china poised i think to invest
9:09 am
billions of dollars in capital expenditures to increase iran's oil and natural gas production and refining capability. that's why i -- i believe that while the efforts in congress are laudable i would certainly vote to keep the sanctions in place. this deal is going to happen. >> but the president says there will be a snapback mechanism. he says there's 24/7 access and says this will prevent iran from building a bomb. in fact ambassador let's listen to what the president said yesterday in his saturday weekly address. >> we held out for a deal that met every one of our bottom lines and we got it. does this deal resolve all of the threats iran poses to its neighbors in the world? no. does it do more than anyone has done before to make sure iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon. yes. >> well there's no mention that i saw in that address of the intercontinental ballistic missiles that they can start developing in eight years or the billions of dollars now that they potentially have to fund terrorism. >> i'm willing to take the president at his word that he got all of his bottom lines
9:10 am
which shows just how minimal his bottom lines were. the fact is the inspections regime that's been set up is simply not going to work as it's laid out. take what secretary moniz said about being able to detect nuclear activity. that may be true where there's nuclear activity but in the weaponization area you don't associate the radioactive material the high-enriched uranium, with the explosives and put it into a device unless you intend to test it because you don't want it to go off accidentally. so it means that iran's weaponization activities at parchin or elsewhere i think can be cleaned up by the iranians and they know it and their hidden nuclear facilities are not anywhere near the sites that we know about. they are in the zagros mountains, maybe they are in nk. you know this confidence about the perfection of american intelligence and international inspectors is going to go down in history i think as such a gross overstatement that it will be hard to recover from.
9:11 am
>> and u.s. inspectors are barred from those military sites. ambassador john bolton. always good for your analysis. thank you, as always. >> thank you, eric. >> much more on the deal. republican senator jerry moran of kansas will join us and we'll hear his take in just a few minutes from julie. >> donald trump heard from again, reacting this morning on fox. to his critics over his remarks over john mccain's war record. what the donald is saying now coming up next.

9:14 am
well donald trump is not apologizing after that firestorm of protests over what he said about juror john mccain. yesterday trump was attacking the military icon for being captured in vietnam and accusing mccain, he says of not doing anything for veterans. here's a portion of the comments yesterday that started this all. >> he's a war hero because he was captured.
9:15 am
i like people that weren't captured i hate to tell you. >> do you agree with that. >> he's a war hero because he was captured okay. you can have -- and i believe perhaps he's a war hero but right now he said some very bad things about a lot of people. >> well there's a lot of criticism now, a lot of disapproval from his republican rivals for the presidential nomination. mr. trump is not backpedaling and not backing down. instead he doubled down on those statements while he spoke to tucker carlson on "fox "fox & friends" this morning. >> are you saying just to be totally clear, i mean you are understanding you didn't attack all veterans i get it. >> i didn't. >> and are you saying you didn't attack john mccain. you say i prefer people who weren't caught. >> the people who weren't caught they did a great job also. they get no credit. i mean mccain gets tremendous credit and i want to give him credit but the people who weren't caught nobody talks about them. >> his rivals are calling the comments offensive and unnecessary. in fact governor george pataki
9:16 am
of new york calls them pathetic and rick perry has called mr. trump to drop out of the race which he will certainly not do. >> well we would love to have it approved and hopefully we'll be able to persuade enough people. i thrown are enough minds still open ready to consider this on its merits that could be persuaded, and we're going to work very hard both of us. we'll on the hill next week. we look forward to this interaction with the congress and we very much hope we can persuade enough people to approve, it of course. >> turning now to iran. the nuclear agreement with iran is now in the hands of congress. tomorrow begins day one of a 60-day review period. the senate will also begin hearings starting on thursday. now, both sides have already made cases for and against the agreement so what next? joining us now is republican senator jerry moran of kansas. thank you very much for talking to us senator. you know congress and the obama admi making their case for and against continuing sanctions. obama and his team believe that we've got to do this because
9:17 am
otherwise u.s. sanctions and resolutions will be ignored eventually by other countries. my question to you is that the right approach? do we lift sanctions because we're worried about how other countries might perceive us? >> julie, thanks for letting me join you. this is probably the most important decision issue that many members of the united states senate will face during their time in the united states senate and i certainly agree with what secretary kerry just said which is i hope that the decision about whether to approve or agree with the agreement will be done on the merits and what i'm fearful is that this will become a political issue in which democrats find themselves in a position of having to support what i think is a terrible agreement simply because the president happens to be democrat. i don't oppose it because the president is a democrat. i oppose it because it's bad for our country. it's bad for our national security and it reduces the stability and peace prospects in
9:18 am
that very difficult part of the world called the middle east. and what's next should be the american people and their elected representatives in washington, d.c. spending the time not on the politics of this issue but on the merits to make certain that -- to reach the right conclusion whether it's beneficial to peace and national security or very harmful. >> talk about the dangerous terms of this proposal because not only do they not enhance our national security as you just mentioned, but what about verifying accountability from iran? where will there be account ability accountability? >> that's what the sanctions were put in place to change the behavior of iran related to the development of a nuclear weapon and what we see is the sanctions going away under the agreement and what should have happened is there's no sanction relief until iran dismantles their nuclear program. i serve on banking committee that's responsible for the
9:19 am
congressionally mandated sanctions. our goal was to change the behavior of iran using the sanctions, not to remove the sanctions and hope that iran does something different, and so the -- this agreement has been negotiated agreed to in a way that the benefits come way too soon and the bad behavior can continue and perhaps most troubling is the ultimate end of arms embargo and ballistic missile opportunities for iran as well. we're headed in the wrong direction in a way that's so troublesome to the peace and security of the united states and the rest of the world. >> i'll tell you what else is troubling is iran's supreme court leader ayatollah khamenei who hailed to his people yesterday saying death to america and israel and in the vicious speech he hopes god will answer the prayers and hopes a nuclear deal won't change the support for palestine and its opposition to america. i mean this is the kind of rhetoric president obama feels can be negotiated with?
9:20 am
>> this -- we are negotiating with a country that is the leading exporter of terrorism, that funds and promotes the death to americans, to -- to attack israel. the rhetoric matches their behavior. this isn't just talk. this isn't just a leader of iran making a rhetorical set of statements. this is a country that actually practices the things that the leader is saying they will still continue to do and i guess you could argue, i mean i would make the case that even if this was a perfect agreement, is this a country that you would trust, and the answer to that is absolutely not. >> republican kansas senator jerry moran, thanks very much for talking to us. we appreciate it. eric? >> julie, thanks. have you heard the stunning testimony that was unearthed by the "new york times" from comedian bill cosby. we'll have the very latest on what he reportedly did to keep those affairs under lock and key. ancestry has come out with a new version. now they have lifestory.

city newsroom. hi brian. >> reporter: disturbing revelations are coming out of the "new york times" report after the times exclusively obtained a 2,000-page transcript from bill cosby's deposition in 2005 and 2006 how he defines himself against this woman, a former temple university employee who alleges he drugged and molested her one night at her pennsylvania home in the early 2000s. in the deposition cosby called her a liar saying the only drug he gave her was benadryl and talked about their mentor relationship and said quote, their sexual encounter was consensual because of her non-verbal cues saying i walk her out. she does not look angry and does not say to me don't ever do that again. she doesn't walk out with an attitude of a huff because i think that i'm a pretty decent reader of people and their emotions in these romantic sexual things whatever you want to call them. cosby went on to talk about
9:26 am
having sexual rendezvouses with at least five other women though he says he stopped short of sexual intercourse with the women because he didn't want women to succumb to more romance romance. he admits using powerful sedative drugs called quaaludes and insisting that he knew. cosby went at length to keep the women quiet paying them and paying for constance's education behind his wife's back. would your wife know about that? that's family. my wife would not know if because andrea and i had sex and that andrea was now very very upset and she decided she would like to go to school or whatever it is. we can get back on track. how would you explain to your wife that you were giving this personally as opposed to use the foundation is this. >> i would say to her that there is a person that i would like to help. cosby continues to deny
