community remembering the victims of the deadly shooting in lafayette louisiana. two people killed and nine others injured thursday night. five are still in the hospital. one in critical condition we are told. >> we learned this about the gunman whose name is john russell houser and he bought the handgun he used legally from an alabama pawnshop. he was from alabama not louisiana. he was a drirst drifter with profound mental illness. he spent time in a georgia psychiatric hospital in 2008. he was evicted from his home last year and evicted after giving notice he had to leave. he had wigs and disguises inside his vehicle which was parked rice outside the theater. >> we're learning more about the victims. 21-year-old maci brux 31-year-old jillian.

vigils near the theater. memorial growing outside of a local church as well. >> it's so hard when you start to he so the victims jillian johnson, you know, what about her husband who is going to have to bury her. mayci her high school sweetheart who she planned to marry and how heart broken he is. already this morning it's turning political. >> governor bobby jindal is suspending his presidential campaign in the wake of the shooting. he held a press conference the other day and he was there alongside the police chief. in a reporter asked hem about some of the gun laws in louisiana being responsible for. this take a listen. he had to fire -- we don't have the sound. >> basically a reporter said what about your gun laws? the gun did this and you are responsible. making a commonplace but cheap and stupid point and jindal said, look, settle

down let's not make this political. we are going to spend time mourning the victims of this and then we can talk about policy. this spun off a couple of overpaid foreigner who's responded frequent. one of them pierce morgan from britain who had a show. he wrote a piece in the daily mail in which he said. this jindal's rhetoric made me want to vomit. spare me all your crocodile tears, governor. you have got the blood of those victims all over your a-rated nra loving we love us some guns in louisiana hands. piers morgan. >> debate to have about mental illness. he had published online about blowing up abortion clinics. he had given speeches. >> he was hospitalized in a nut house. so yes he was by definition crazy as have been 100% of these mass shooters. i walked through midtown i

seen 15 demonstrablably mentally ill. america has a massive bipartisan problem dealing with the mentally ill. >> it's ignored by many. >> by everybody. we just take it for granted it's normal to have people barking at the stars sleeping on the street. it's not normal. >> we do have that sound bite now from governor bobby jindal. let's listen. >> what do you support as a leader to make it tougher for people with mental illness to get guns? >> a couple things there will be a right time and place. we are less than 24 hours out. we have two families waiting for to bury their loved ones and we have families waiting for their loved ones to leave the hospital. there will be a time to talk about policies. >> governor, when will the right time be. we have had a shooting? chattanooga. >> you can ask as many times as you want. i'm not answering that.

let us mourn for those who have been killed. let us take care of those that have been in the hospital. it hasn't been 24 hours. >> no one wants to be honest about this, there is huge -- obviouslyi' you don't want crazy people to have guns. the actual policy is very complex. the main question, ptsd. what do you do about the tens of thousands returning servicemen claiming ptsd getting benefits from it. they qualify as mentally ill. do you prevent them from having guns? no, they are members of the military. when you get down to implementing these laws, it's complicated and these politicians pretend it's really simple and the nra is preventing this from not happening. that's not true. it's very complex to write these laws. >> sad state of affairs. posting pictures of adolf hitler and talking about blowing up abortion clinics and he is able to walk into a pawnshop and get a gun.

>> this guy had literally i been to a mental hospital. >> the conversation may need to shift toward mental illness. we do need to switch gears. hillary clinton is defending the use of private email and that server even as two nntders general call on the justice department to launch a criminal investigation to determine if she used that server to exchange classified information. >> christa fisher is live in washington with this. good morning. >> good morning. this is a really important development. we are talking about two independent inspector generals here. these are people whose main job, their primary purpose is to operate independent of the administration and congress. they are now asking the justice department to determine if hillary clinton illegally transmitted classified information through that personal server. an inspector general for the intelligence community told congress he found four emails containing classified information. and, according to sources familiar with the investigation, another inspector general with the state department believes

clinton's private email accounts contains hundreds of potentially classified emails either sent or received by clinton. the former secretary of defense addressed these latest allegations yesterday during a speech in new york city. listen. >> maybe the heat is getting to everybody. [ laughter ] we all have a responsibility to get this right. i have released 55,000 pages of emails. i have said repeatedly that i will answer questions before the house committee. we are all accountable to the american people to get the facts right. >> many republicans including speaker boehner say the only way clinton can make this right is to hand over that private email server to an independent arbiter. but so far clinton has declined to do that back to you guys in new york. >> and the likability and credibility ratings are going down for her. >> why don't they subpoena? 10% of the emails that investigators looked at, 10% were classified, or out four

welcome back. donald trump hitting the campaign trail today in the state of iowa. the most talked about candidate, trump is banning iowa's largest newspaper from the event. the reporter can't cover him, he says, after the paper wrote this on the editorial page. quote: it's time for donald trump to drop out of race for the president. trump has been focusing himself and his brand and not on the problems facing this nation. is this a fight worth picking? joining us now to debate research cato institute. nice to see you both. >> thanks, tucker. >> i'm very open-minded about trump. i think is he very interesting and funny as hell. >> he is. >> banning a reporter, shouldn't trump and fight if he doesn't like the coverage shouldn't he stay and fight. >> they this is very concerning to me. if someone criticizes him he pushes them out? what would a trump presidency look like based on his actions today? >> interesting. steve? >> i think he is actually a very minor mistake.

especially when you compare it to what he did with mccain which i thought was going to be fatal with him it hasn't been. we have seen polls since then it hasn't hurt him at all it does sort of run contrary to this message that he is trying to put out there, that he is strong, he can handle anything. he would allow those people to come in and target that person and say a few things at one of the next press conferences. >> isn't this the whole appeal or profound part of the appeal is that trump is, as steve just said, strong. one guy who will say exactly what he thinks and totally unafraid of people who disagree with him. by the way voters like it when you tangle with the media, don't they. >> a lot of voters perceive donald trump to be speaking truth to power. to take on the elite of washington the elites in the republican party. here he is not even willing to take on a local newspaper because they disagreed with him. i mean, is he really going to be able to be authentic and speak truth to power if he can't take them on? >> it's the famous mediocre

sad paper anyway. some are saying this is bad news for the republican party what they believe. it's like watching your children argue. all children of divorce are horrified by. this isn't what they ought to do have a meaningful debate what they stand for. wouldn't the republican party be better served to have debates like. this what we learned from the last republican go around in 2012 whether you have a lot of people like this and debates it, gives you enough rope to really get bad stuff on every single one of the people running for president. >> true. >> i think it is healthy for the party. many believe it's not the right way to go. a lot of candidates for the 2016 nomination find a way not to have trump at the debates and stuff like that. >> exactly. i think you are completely right. the people who run the parties want you to shut up and obey. they don't want to talk about anything. true on both sides completely. shouldn't candidates resist that and come out and tell us what you believe? >> absolutely. trump should be allowed to

what's going on. i saw you that she was sweating a lot. so then i pulled out my phone and at the same time i'm looking around to make sure there is no parents coming back. once i noticed that there wasn't. i started dialing 11 right away. started yanking on all the doors. seeing if unlocked. windows were down. no doors unlocked. i was letting the operator know where i was. how the child's state is license plate everything like that. and then right after the 911 operator can i break the window out of the vehicle? and she stated if you feel the need, to then do it. so once i started going around to the other side of the vehicle, i was about to break the window but i seen an officer coming up on an aisle that was kind of far away so then i -- i ran over to the officer and directed him to the vehicle. he pulled up to the vehicle and took something out of his trunk. it took about seven tries to get the window open. but he finally broke the window. i went on to the other side of the vehicle. that the child was crying

because the window probably scared her when it broke. i undid her seat buckle and took her out and held her and calmed her down. the officer asked for my id and everything. i passed her to him and went to get my id. that's when other officials started showing up to do checks on her and stuff. >> tony, what an amazing story. wow. what happened when the mother eventually strolled out because there are pictures of that, too. was she concerned? was she running? going oh my gosh i forgot the? what was her response? >> it was actually -- whenever she came out she was oblivious as to what was going on. once she saw officers, you know, it was her and two other gentlemen. and they still had no idea what was going on. but once he showed are you missing something? notice something? and then she looked and saw her child her mouth dropped a little bit. but that was about it they directed her to the other side of the parking lot to talk to her about it. >> tony, we see the superman medallion on your neck. you were a superman to this child. thank you for what you did.

thanks so much for joining us. officer, tell us how this unfolded. you arrived. there is a woman trapped. how did you decide to lift a car off? >> it's kind of a rough decision. i mean, we first got there in -- when would were were running up. we saw her. i immediately started running for somebody to get a car jack, like someone just get a car jack. dfc hadn't arrived just yet. we were trying to do whatever we could at that moment. just to even see if we had any signs of life or anything underneath there. >> officer hendrix you look like you had been to the gym before. but, still lifting a car? did you think this would be possible? how did you know you would be able to do it? >> i didn't know at the time. and i didn't realize until after i watched the video that all the civilians and citizens had jumped into help. i think once the jack didn't work we realized we had to do something else. i think when everyone saw us trying to lift the car that's when all the civilians came out of nowhere and helped us. without them, i don't think he would would have been

able to do it. >> were you all afraid you might drop it? >> no, not at that point. once we started lifting i thought it was pretty easy. i didn't know all the citizens helped. but it felt pretty light so i knew something happened. we held it pretty good, like when i watched the video afterwards, i saw why because everybody jumped in to help. >> where is the civilians come from? >> there was actually a restaurant right across the street. i think it was like a seafood bar. so, as soon as we had enough people there, you know, we were like let's go ahead and lift it can you just see them from running across the street and from the parking lot to just run and to just help lift up the car. >> that's remarkable. but the most amazing part of this story i have trouble believing it actually. is apparently the woman trapped beneath the car was okay. >> she i mean, don't get me wrong, she definitely had some pretty serious injuries. she is definitely doing better. she is recovering.

obvious if you have some brown grass it's probably going to be -- you've got a drought going on but is that the true way to tell? >> absolutely. you want to get in there, see what's going on. you'll see some brown color, some yellowing. if you see some stripes in the thatch, that's where the disease comes in. >> what if you have a diseased lawn? what can you do? is it too far gone? >> you want to make sure you're not watering at night. that's a typical mistake that creates this petrie dish for the disease to thrive and spread throughout the lawn. you want to water early in the morning and raise up your mower height. don't trim off no more than a third of the blade. >> during the summer we keep it low and we're watering at night. you hear those sprinkler systems at night all over the neighborhood. >> exactly. >> what is this? i see this in the yard all the time. >> this particular weed it's going to grow at about twice the rate of your desirable grass.

so you have if nice lawn you just mowed it and you see this popping up. >> what do you do to get rid of it? >> the best thing to do is seed in the fall to create a really dense root system and not allow those weeds to establish themselves initially. once you have them you really only have a couple options. you can pull them out, which of course is really manual, takes a lot of time, no one wants to do it or put down a weed control product and make sure you're targeting that specific weed. >> in the fall when you say seed put down actual grass seed. >> exactly. >> not fertilizer but a seed. that seed will grow and crowd out the undesirable weeds. >> fall is the best time to do seeding? >> absolutely. >> what about this over here? all of our studio crew were pointing that's crabgrass! they all know what this is. we all have it right now. >> exactly. this is the bane of everyone's and when you get into the summer months you're going to see this spread throughout your lawn. you'll typically see it by walkways and curb strips and it

really starts to spread out. same thing here. you want to get that seed down in the fall make sure you crowd it out. also a weed-control product we would put down or you can to it yourself get it at a local hardware store. >> during the summer months when it's so stinking hot, do you want to put down fertilizer right now? >> you do. we're going to adjust our turf programs when we get into the summer and make sure we're not putting down too much nitrogen. if you're doing it on your own, you want the right product because you can actually burn the lawn and really cause some pretty severe damage. >> or just call lawn doctors for help. finally, the last one over here grub damage. those little -- i neve knew what those things looked like and one day i see them in this one patch of grass, all these tiny little grubs. i've always heard about that. i thought it was a mystery. >> as you get into august you'll start to see japanese beetles around the neighborhood start seeing some nibbles on your row bushes there. that means those beetles are going to fly over your lawn and drop those eggs the woorms are
