1:05 am
you are the bush who can change that. >> voters across america are tired of hearing politicians tell people who they are against and what they are against. people want to vote for someone and for something and you'll hear me what i am forgoing forward. >> jeb bush set to talk here later along with senator ted cruz. >> and so donald trump, he's not there but he's weighing in on the candidates that are. what he is saying? >> reporter: that's right. trump not here but that doesn't mean that he's not getting his word in here. he took to twitter earlier today tweeting and i'm quoting i wish good luck to all of the recandidates that traveled to california to beg for money from the koch brothers, puppets? trump is financing his own campaign doesn't have to go asking for money. i'll leave with you this. throughout the course of the day we had dozens of people come up what we're doing and who are we here for. all asked if trump was here and seemed disappointed when we told them no.

i'm julie banderas. this is the fox report. we're entering a crucial week in the race for the white house. the first presidential debate four days away. 17 declared republican candidates and many of them are on the campaign trail making their case ahead of thursday's events seen right here on fox. >> reporter: the days are dwindling as republican

candidates push to make headlines some getting tersed when asked about the elephants in the room, donald trump. >> maybe my whole life is a debate in a way but the fact is i'm not a debater and they are. but with that being said i look forward to it. we'll see what happens. >> reporter: former governor rick perry and john kasich took the opportunity to tell chris wallace their executive experience trumps other candidates. kasich said ohio is his first priority. perry says he best represents the party. >> i would like to thereabout and we just have to wait and see how all these polls work out and look as it relates to the polls i'm governor of ohio. i wasn't traveling around the country trying to make a name for myself. i was just trying to take care of ohio. >> i'll stand up for conservatives. nobody has a more socially conservative position. nobody has a better job creation record. nobody has a better record of

1:33 am
gentlemen, great to have you here. let's talk about this quick rise on behalf of donald trump, his surge in the polls because it has come at a bit of an expense of other republican hopefuls. >> i think first of all, part of it is indratiation. there's frustration that the game is rigged. trump gives americans straight talk about how to fix the country, reform our system, and open up our politics. i think that's ultimately what people are responding to. >> yeah. i think -- you know, we've been saying this for a year that if anyone watched political insiders last year we've been telling you this year was going to be chaos. we're headed to even more chaos. that's because we have an electorate out of touch with the
1:34 am
leadership of the country, the political class that has no grasp of what's going on out in the hinderlands. no sense that they are despised because of their failures and also because the place is so frankly corrupt and people believe that. no one speaks for them and then so often -- >> trump does. >> trump does. i think the question for him is, does he give a could her let narrative. he's setting off those bombs and as bernie sanders in his own way in the democratic party. >> while we're talking can we put the poll back up because i want to ask and talk about the numbers on that poll. so we have trump leading and we have scott walker who repeatedly on this show we talked about is the one candidate with one foot with the tea party and one foot with the establishment and he's hanging in. the next two are very interesting. jeb bush never moves. he stays at 14. >> the journal poll from 22 down
1:35 am
to 14. >> but the trend lines for jeb have not been good for the whole eight months he's been running. keep it up there. ben carson at 10% is very to me. he's been sitting there but consistent without spending any money. he hangs in in all digits because like trump he's outside the political establishment. >> that's an important point. >> that's very interesting because for the first time thursday we'll be hearing from presidential candidates debating on a platform that's obviously very familiar to career politicians. but you are going to hear from donald trump, ben carson, carly fiorina -- >> no she's not in the debate. >> she may not make it into the evening debate. we've never seen them on a political platform. how might thursday give them a chance to shine >> here's the thing. the american people are responding to the fact that as john and pat were saying, trump and carson to a lesser extent are not part of the political class, they are not the establishment, they are taking
1:36 am
it on. the question is are they literally and metaphorically for primetime. can they take on a cogent narrative what they would do to plot and provoke change in our country. that's the real question. that's what they will have to answer. >> here's the big question for conservatives. conservatives are equally split between trump and walker with about 18% backing each man. tea party supporters most favor ted cruz with trump and walker close behind. people want a conservative to lead their party. who it is going to be? who is the true conservative? >> we'll find out and what the definition of a conservative is. but also because, look, the real point that's not made in the politics of this, julie, is that this is taking place in an election where three quarters of americans basically think the country is in decline. where 60% of them believe their children's future will be worse than theirs, they got the
1:37 am
american dream. 89% of people think the system is rigged against them. no one yet had really articulated that as a large narrative which speaks to the question, if you're in the political class in one of those people, you have either been an accomplice or you have been an accessory. >> or complicit. >> or complicit by your silence and that has yet to be raised. >> let me repeat a conversation we had on friday that's telling about it. senator rand paul who is in that poll sinking, by the way, is complaining that trump is sucking up all the time, all the interviews, we're talking about him and doug made a great point which was for a year and a half -- >> they had a year and a half to talk the other prospective and real candidates and you know what? by being cautious, playing political games they made no impact. one other point quickly, julie, and we'll get to the democrats
1:38 am
in a second. we have a number of viewers who write in, communicate with us. i have one who said you know what? i'm angry. i like donald trump and i like bernie sanders. anger is generalized and people are looking for anti-systemic candidates. these are two people talking sense directly to the american people. >> anger drives people to the polls. leapt me ask you. let's talk about how republicans are viewing donald trump. depending on how his fellow republicans treat him he said he would switch gears and perhaps consider becoming a third-party candidate. whether that's all talk or not. nonetheless isn't that a death wish for the gop, do you think the republicans will dial it back a bit. if they anger trump god only knows what he's capable of. >> he said if the republican national committee treats him badly he'll go third-party. he knows these candidates will come after him and he relish when they attack him. >> on the debate platform,
1:39 am
absolutely people want to hear him debate other republicans and question their policies on immigration. >> what we saw last weekend with the scott walker thing where one of his fundraisers in a letter called trump a dumb dumb. that gave trump carte blanche now i can go after him. when you're a public official and you call the people you serve crazies that's not good. >> again it's a question of contrast. you're here and i'm here. you guys are there i'm here. whatever that definition gets for anyone. trump has a problem at the moment because outside of the support he's getting, his favorable is getting higher. his negatives are still high. >> the democratic race we have to get into that. the "new york times" reporting vice president joe biden is exploring a possible white house run. the fox news political insiders are coming right back and don't forget to chime in while you

however hard it is to secure a democratic nomination is however hard it is and we have no illusions. we never thought this would be easy. there's a lot of views in the democratic party, and, you know, we'll be prepared to handle whatever comes our way. >> hillary clinton's communication the director there saying the clinton camp isn't worried about vice president joe biden who is now exploring a possible run for the democratic nomination. the fox news political insiders are back. they say they are not worried but do you believe they really are not worried about a joe biden run. >> they are not worried about joe biden. joe biden helps hillary by splitting the anti-hillary vote. they worry about dionne warwick.
1:44 am
she doesn't want to leave obama. she wants to stay on the left. standers is a problem but the real problem is elizabeth warren. >> with polling not in hillary's favor these days there's sympathy for joe biden. he just lost his son. he expressed on his death bed he wanted his father to bring the biden morals into the white house. do you think he might get some sympathy vote? >> i don't think people get sympathy votes. i think what happened with joe biden was people saw him on the stage in a different way than they had ever seen him before. >> as a human being. >> as a human being. as a father. he handled himself, he and his family in that terrible time, he showed up in favorables. last week's quinnipiac poll, while hillary gets the lowest rating she's had in favorability he gets the best numbers he has had. she's viewed as she doesn't care
1:45 am
for people and is not honest or trustworthy or really a leader. he does much better. >> here's the latest quinnipiac poll. it shows 57% of voters find hillary untrusty. her private e-mail scandal obviously resonating with voters. >> and other things. >> only a 44 point difference. >> hillary had elected to be effectively anointed the democratic nominee without any problem. and if biden gets in i agree with john it would probably divide the anti-hillary vote. i don't think that he's going a serious rival to her. what it will do is create a huge contest. >> takes votes away from her. >> it takes votes away from the anti-hillary camp but the larger issue of attracting attention to a democratic race that she wanted no attention for, that will happen and there will be more scrutiny on emails and on the kind of issues that promoted those negative ratings on trust. >> let me tell you what will happen theory.
1:46 am
she's slowly being eaten alive. it will start affecting even inside the democratic party. >> hurt her between ral election numbers. >> general election numbers are already in the tank and it will get worse in terms of the people she needs told. doug you said something -- she looks like an annoyed person. >> i think she wants to be anointed rather than annoyed. >> she's annoyed having to go through this. >> is she working hard? >> i don't think so. >> what happened this week with the emails, with the ubs, where oh, my god the amount of money -- >> summarize what happened. >> she intervenes by the way in a treasury matter with the irs. >> as secretary of state. >> they get half a million dollars in contribution. >> whose they >> clinton foundation. they also get $37 million in loan guarantees. and bill clinton gets $1.3 million in speaking fees.
1:47 am
robert menendez was indicted for less than that. it's just outrageous that the justice department will not do what it needs to do. i said about biden on this set months ago that i knew that the conversation would happen and that i believe that it would be up to joe and jill. it would have an impact. but by the way, the point is when the democrats realize she's dead meat, that she's going to lose, it's going to cause a crisis. >> she's going lose in the general and that they are going to nominate a loser and so, what do you think? october, november of this year they are going wake up and look at these numbers and go hey. >> i want to take a look at the timing of this. it's no coincidence the day that the e maim document dump comes out she comes forward and releases tax information and come out and says she's in good health. >> her doctor said she's in good health. >> let's talk about the ftax

information. you have to make a ton of money to pay $44 million. they said they were broke when bill clinton left the white house. while we're trying to be ran the parent you just told us that was an outright lie you were never broke. >> to me the big issue in the release was the amount of money she got and the foundation got from financial service company. it's a concern that democratic primary voters had that she's bought and paid for by the rich and powerful. i know hillary clinton, i know her to be an independent person. but the perception. >> we don't know her to be poor, right? >> she did have financial challenges that she's more than overcome since she threat white house. but she's perceived, julie, as somebody who is a creature of wall street in a way that makes her vulnerable. >> let me go a step farther. what we have here with the clintons let's face it is they

sell their roles in government. when they are in there, we have johnny chung and all these people with a turnstile machine giving them money. when they are out of office they are selling themselves because she may get back into office. >> i have never seen any evidence of that. >> it's the perception. >> you can follow the money. i'll tell you one thing. >> then we go break. >> when you have been grubbing for money you never stop grubbing for money. >> you guys are being harsh. >> i'm so sorry. >> you defending hillary? that's a new hat for you. >> i call them as i see it. >> they keep lying and lying.
