ew in that contest who has taken on the donald and they have traded some pretty nasty barbs. he's going to be joining me with the uphill battle he faces to steal. hello, everyone. i'm dana perino along with geraldo rivera juan william, eric bolling, and kimberly guilfoyle. this is "the five." hillary clinton doesn't have a lot of competition in her bid for the democratic nomination. is that going to change? >> is there any chance you can challenge her? >> yes, there's a chance, but i've made up my mind about that. that's a family personal decision this i'm going to make sometime at the end of the summer. >> it's now august and the speculation about joe biden entering the race is picking up some steam. >> you said he's thinking about
2:01 pm
it right? >> he said he's thinking about it more importantly. >> would the president like to see that? would he support that? >> the president ultimately wants democratic voters to decide who they believe the nominee should be. the president certainly believes a spirited contest would be in the best interest of our party and the best interest of our party, but ultimately our country and our party are going to be best served by candidates deciding for themselves. >> what does the clinton camp think about the possibility of a biden run? >> i have a great deal of love for vice president biden, a lot of respect, so do the clintons everyone on the campaign and we're going to let him make his decision and otherwise stay out of it. >> we don't want to really talk about it. kimberly you love this story. i think you're into it. >> i am into it. i've been hearing a lot about this from many different reliable sources. i think he would be a fantastic
2:02 pm
candidate. i would love to see him get in the race because i don't think it should be a layup for hillary clinton. who has the best qualifications? i want to listen to everybody, and i want to hear what joe biden has to say. he's obviously served his country well. not saying i'm going you, joe, but i don't think he should retire and do the midnight swim. i think he should jump in. >> the story has been building but it has really been building since a "times" piece on sunday. it looks like it was a coordinated release of information. >> you think it was hillary releasing? >> i don't think hillary's team is organized enough to have pulled that off. >> one thing we can agree on is the democrats are kind of influx right now. hillary has the relaunch of her
2:03 pm
relaunch of her relaunch. joe biden might run. president obama apparently would be okay with a joe biden run. today we heard the ceo of starbucks is being asked to run as well. >> who floated that a barista? >> i'm not sure. what would be the most fun six months of your life would be joe biden versus donald trump and see how those two go at it. >> i might buy tickets for that. >> exactly. >> juan hillary clinton is not lighting the world on fire. she's been running for office for many years. it's almost like she's the incomein incumbent. she does come across as cold. joe biden comes across as warm. do you think it is being pushed more from the grass roots or somebody in the biden camp?
2:04 pm
>> i think it's being pushed by the republicans. >> the republicans don't pitch things to maureen dowd. >> never, never. let me tell you something. the numbers still indicate that hillary is i think -- more than 50% of democrats would choose her as their nominee for the democratic party. donald trump is 20 something. that gives you an idea. the thing about the joe biden moment is that joe biden is so loved by democrats, especially now after the death of his son and the key to the dowd column was the son had asked the father to get back into it to do it. axelrod says he's skeptical. >> nice setup. >> there is the other side of the equation which is what it takes to put a presidential candidate together against a
2:05 pm
formidable opponent. i'm a little skeptical about the bombshell of the weekend. >> would you advise him to run? >> i would not because i know what it takes to put a presidential campaign together and it is late in the game. i would hate to see him risk it all on a campaign that likely wouldn't succeed. >> that might make his team want to do it more. >> come on. joe biden is a punch line okay? the fact that hillary clinton is terrified of joe biden shows how weak her candidacy is. when biden heard the democrats were trying to draft him, oh i'm going to vietnam? this guy is a joke. he's not taken seriously. >> come on. >> let's look at his profile. he was against the bin laden raid. he was in charge of the stimulus. and he dropped the efff-bomb on
2:06 pm
national television. >> it seems to me you think he would be tougher to beat than hillary and you want hillary as a nominee. i hope that's why you're doing this. >> hillary and biden have a lot in common. hillary takes the private jet. he takes amtrak. she gets a $600 haircut. he's got hair plugs. there are some similarities there. i would like to see them debate each other. you would have to have a debate at 5:00 p.m. because primetime is way past both of their bedtimes. >> arguably vice president biden is in a better position to take over from hillary in terms of experience and capabilities and the fact that he actually is well liked and gets things done. >> did you mean take over from obama?
2:07 pm
>> yes. >> continue the third term. >> yes. >> the interesting thing is how bad of an idea joe biden was six months ago and how great it seems right now. everybody has a different opinion of joe biden right now. he wasn't going after hillary clinton. he wasn't going to be the one who was going to go after the first potential female president in america. but now that she's faltering and her numbers are sliding -- by the way, 50% approval when you only have yourself in the race and a socialist isn't that big of a deal when you talk about the other side. do the math. >> anyway that you get plus 50 you're doing good. >> and you're the only one running? >> she's not the only one running. don't forget here. there's a money contest going on. >> no doubt. that is the important part. by the way, we're going to get to the new hillary attack ads
2:08 pm
that are going to come out. she decided to spend $2 million because her campaign is faltering. >> no. >> she's under water in trustworthiness. she's under water in approval. she's got to turn this thing around a little bit. she doesn't have an opponent yet. >> she's raised so much money, but she wants to spend some of it. kimberly kimberly, i want to ask you about this. what ed henry was saying is campaigns will not admit they're nervous. my surprise is that she's actually having to still introduce herself. as eric said she launched her campaign then she relaunched it and relaunched it. >> we know who she is but in terms of in-depth identification of what she stands for, what her
2:09 pm
background is her upbringing there's been so much about clinton cash contributions, the in impropriety impropriety. now they want to go back and define the narrative themselves. it does show you they are worried. they are concerned because they're throwing cash at us already. >> these ads were planned awhile back. they weren't like last week we saw some new numbers and she's got a problem. >> but they're releasing them now. >> the second thing to say is you know what these ads talk about her mother. her mother was abandoned at 8 years old. where you guys are right is her image is kind of the entitled ice queen, right? >> right. >> the image they are working to
2:10 pm
hone here is she is a soft loving person, she's a loyal person to president obama, she's a grandmother, and her mother had to struggle to make it. she paid 40 million on tax. that's not her. she understands the problems of the middle class. >> the problem is every time she opens her mouth in a speech or answers very few questions, you realize she's not the person in those ads. she is the person you're talking about, the ice queen who has the coronation for the democratic party. >> bolling is right because every time she campaigns her numbers go down. that's why it is such a threat biden is such a threat because he will force her to get out on the campaign trail and do media and the numbers are going to go down. >> we're going to talk a little bit more about this subject later in the show but i want to get a last comment from bolling
2:11 pm
before we go. the clinton campaign is actually admitting they could lose primaries or caucuses to a socialist. they're worried about bernie sanders. they think they can lose a couple. >> that i don't buy. i think they're worried about joe biden a little bit. i don't think they're worried about bernie sanders. >> you should worry about the republican side. it is about rage in america, whether the bernie sanders or donald trump. what is donald trump? >> he is a capitalist. >> i love striking a nerve right before i'm supposed to tease. the first debate of 2016 is just days away. we have an update on the poll positions of the republican candidates. that's up next.

discussion. >> it was one poll. >> it's not one poll. there are several polls like that. there's no way he's going to win the hispanic vote. he's costing the republican party with hispanic voters who are so key, with their chances to win the white house. this thing he said about this weekend that we'll never have another black president because of president obama -- how insulting? that's crazy. no one he had to fire someone for racist tweets and postings. >> from 2007. >> i don't care when it was. >> it matters, juan. look, the latest polls the numbers are trump at 22%. the next closest walker 12.7%.

bush, 12.2%. there are two spots toward the bottom. the last two spots kasich 3.7. chris christie 3.2. rick perry at 2.7. there's an all out war there for the last two spots. either kasich or perry are going to be left off that stage. the reason donald trump is at 20% is because a little bit further down in real clear politics you go congressional approval ratings. 16% approval rating and 74% negative view of what's going on in congress. donald trump is the anti this is what's going on in d.c. >> kimberly how could anybody love anybody more than you? >> nice comeback.
2:19 pm
>> flowers and chocolates please. >> thank you. i think the most interesting thing i'm noticing in these polls -- by the way, i think the guy that's getting left out here is rick perry. i think kasich gets in but perry gets left out. perry was going to attack trump, so i think that's helpful for trump. perry is not going to insult him in that way. i notice in these polls that jeb bush is not getting hurt by trump. i wonder what you guys think about this. the establishment republican candidate is not the one who is losing support. it's the cruzs, it's to some extent the carsons. >> he's got 12%. >> what do you mean? >> jeb bush is at 12.2%. >> yeah but he's not losing support. that's what the polls indicate. >> he is saying trump has pulled from the other candidates and jeb has maintained his base of support. >> you don't think jeb bush was
2:20 pm
higher than 12.2% two weeks ago? >> all the stories are coming out that say, in fact jeb loves it because all of the kind of anti-establishment power that you've been talking about, eric is now just putting -- it drains the other candidates who might have been gaining a foothold and trump will eventually go away and there will be jeb. >> i don't know. i think jeb is coming off a little patrician in all of this. there are ways to attack trump. >> does he need to? >> i don't think he needs to right now. but on thursday he's going to have throw some punches. >> why would you say that? >> you don't think trump is going to go after jeb in the debates? >> i say, you, audience, make the decision. do you want the rational person or do you want eric?
2:21 pm
>> i don't know if it looks good if the jeb establishment frontrunner denigrates the republican base about donald trump. >> are you sure you want to compare jeb bush with a liberal? >> no no no no. republicans don't think that. i was saying i don't think that you want if you're either scott walker or jeb bush you don't want to get into a fight with donald trump. up next boys -- wait. sit in your places. milk and cookies. the girls run it now. go. >> we have about 20 seconds left. i'm ready to get this show on the road. i'm excited about the debates. the poll numbers move pretty quickly. i think trump will stay there, bush walker. others have a chance. i would really encourage people to watch the debate forum at 5:00 p.m. on thursday because there are some really great candidates and on the republican
2:22 pm
side you have choices. you have lots of people. that 5:00 one could be a little bit more telling about what could happen in the future after this primetime debate because some of those people are going to shine and others are going to drop out. >> i totally agree. in that 5:00 for sure one will end up in the top ten in a matter of time. that's why it's so important. people they are putting it on instead of our show. that's how important and good it is. it's taking our slot. i want to ask you about the strategy for the debate that was mentioned here. does jeb bush have to do anything to attack the other candidates? what do you think if you're advising him his strategy should be? >> i'm not for personal insults and attacks. i don't like that as a viewer. if you look at republican women, they don't typically like that from anybody. and it can come from anyone. but i also just think the most important thing is authenticity.
2:23 pm
if you dig in and ask people why do you like donald trump, it's because he's himself. he's just himself and people like that. i would say if you want to try to win the hearts and minds of republican voters in this debate, just try to be yourself and let the chips fall where they may. >> and trump is going to win the black vote. yes, he is. he's got juan's vote. >> obama has a 96% approval rating with african-americans. i don't think that's going to happen. >> let's get real. >> put michelle obama on the ticket. there you go. ahead, a hunter defends their big game kills after photos spark outrage. and a ufc fighter defends her title knocking out her opponent in seconds.
