"red eye" starts right now. >> welcome to "red eye." hello. i'm tom shillue. let's check in with tv's andy levey at the news deck. andy?
12:03 am
happy national psych -- psychic day do you too andy. let's welcome our guests. she's in town to see a broadway show. i just hope it is not our american cousin. republican strategist lisa boots. he beat cancer. what have you done? spokesman to four u.s. ambassadors. she is one of the hottest brooks since foster, farrah brooke. and sitting next to me is giant comedian ben kissle. okay captain obvious fire up them engines. hitchhiking is a dangerous game. sadly one robot learned that lesson the hard way. the child of canadian researchers hitch bought was born without the ability to move. but hitch wasn't about to let that disability stop him from
12:04 am
pursuing his dream of hitchhiking across the globe. the kind of strangers that allowed hitch to visit canada, germany and the netherlands. his globe trotting came to an end. these are graphic images. his limbs and head were torn off and cast aside. left for dead in the gutter. somehow even witnessing the worst humanity has to offer hitch has found hope. his tweet my trip must come to an end for now but my love for humans will never fade. thanks friends. that's beautiful isn't it? a robot with feelings? could it be? >> i don't think it is possible. i am so happy this robot was murdered in philadelphia. it is the stiff brotherly love and not the city of robot love. for everyone who lost their job score one for the good
12:05 am
guys. we have a victory on our hands. >> automation is killing the steal belt and everything. >> we finally got a little not blood on our hands but robot parts and that's kind of cool. >> farrah, welcome back to the show. >> thank you. >> are you concerned? what does it say about people? that's the question. >> it shows nobody is safe in america. we have a violence problem in this country. the most surprising poort -- part of the story is that the robot wasn't shot. >> he was torn limb from limb. >> do robot lives matter? >> i think all lives matter including robots. >> that could get you in trouble. you never know. >> i'll take the risk. >> rick, what is the answer to this? i think this was a set up for the united states of america. they had him walking around europe like he was all safe.
12:06 am
what they took him to philadelphia? they were asking for it. >> he was a foreign intel operator. i can't believe it took this long to slice him. i mean, seriously. look at all of the other cities he visited. boston and all of these other places allowed a foreign intel robot to come in and take pictures and capture information. we are america we should have had this guy immediately slaughtered from the moment he stepped on -- it is a foreign intelligence officer. >> it was taking pictures every 20 seconds or something. >> actually, lisa, why can't they catch the perpetrators. >> i think first and foremost we should have a moment of silence. this is huge. it is an incredibly sad day in america. you know, look, unfortunately he became a statistic. if you look at the top cities for homicide philadelphia is number five. hitch bought became a statistic. >> they made a mistake putting a robot where the fans throw
12:07 am
snowballs at santa claus. you are taking a risk. >> they are not the soft snowballs. >> they went after them. >> there are like nails in them. >> little batteries matter of fact. >> he is a robot. you would theng he knows the crime statistics. if you are supposed to be so smart, he is no ibm watson. >> do you think it has something to do with people put out of work and they are angry with this bot? >> they saw a robot walking down the street and it is one of those teenagers. >> i think it could have been a smart phd who said i don't want my picture taken. >> it is some anti-surveillance type. >> who knows if it is a drone ready to take off? we live in a world where people are experience -- are suspicious of cameras. i think a smart person took this out and we should congratulate them. >> it is national security. that's a good answer. >> meanwhile i'm told another robot in japan is also
12:08 am
hitching rides. can we see that? >> now that's the way to be a hitchhiking robot. >> that's the perfect drifter robot. was the man eating tomatoes? if you give that robot some peanut butter and you dip it in sugar this is what i have been eating for two weeks. i can't get enough of the stuff. that's my kind of robot and if anyone dares hurt that robot i'll come after you. >> i like tomatoes. do you have them with salt? >> no. >> are tomatoes fruit? >> technically they are. but you don't have to --
12:09 am
>> if you are running you should have fruit. i actually think it is a good thing. >> from hitch bot to hill bot hillary clinton has two new ads out before republicans can start attacking her. they will air in iowa and new hampshire on tuesday. here is the first one. >> now that was the wrong tape but i am hearing that hillary's poll numbers are going up because of that video. maybe she should look at it again. let me try this again. go. >> when i think about why i am doing this, i think about my mother dorothy. she was abandoned by her parents at the age of 8. she was sent from chicago to l.a. to live with grand parents who didn't want her. i think of the dorothys all over america who fight for their families and who never give up. that's why i am doing this.
12:10 am
that's why i have always done this for all of the dorothys. >> all of the dorothys. >> here is the second ad. >> after law school she could have gone to a big firm, but instead went to work for the children's defense fund. in arkansas she fought for school reform to change lives forever. then as first lady she helped get health care for eight million kids. then you probably know the rest. >> we wee do know. benghazi the private e-mail server. actually they don't mention that. >> the secretary of state who joined the cabinet of a man who defeated her because when your president calls you serve. and now a new title grandma. >> i believe when families are strong america is strong. it's your time. >> this is why we did the boss first and then hillary. they have a film crew and they
12:11 am
spent a lot of money on those things. there was no warmth at all. >> she is so phony. i mean that first ad she kept saying this is why i am doing this. because my mom was poor this is why i am doing this. is that the reaction to why she is collecting millions of dollars from all sorts of foreign government? i don't understand why the poor mom means this is why i am doing this. >> there is no connection. >> there is no connection whatsoever. my mom was poor so i will run for president. she is completely phony and cold and calculated. she has a lot of money and we will see a lot of these ads. they will keep doing these ads until one works. >> they are spending millions on these in new hampshire. >> maybe one that bill puts together will work and that's the one they will try to ride home. >> lisa, do you notice they only refer to obama in the video as a man who defeated her?
12:12 am
they didn't say his name. it was a man who defeated her. >> do we think she is related to hitch bot? >> maybe. it is the stress on the weird words. i am doing this because -- >> and because are you wearing a pink pant suit as opposed to a black one won't soften your image. if you look at the latest polls, this candidate cares about me. what she is trying to do is softener edge. >> because everybody has a mom. >> we don't all have a dorothy though. >> but she thinks we do. >> are we being hard on hillary? we had a guest on here. >> when i see all of this edgy pro family stuff -- sex sells. >> i think her mom had sex to
12:13 am
have her. that's implicit in the ad. >> i can't stop thinking about that. >> she is different from hitch bot. at no time would she be caught hanging out with the peasants of philadelphia. i don't know if the famous anti-war activist would agree so much with hillary's war vote though. she lost one dorothy right there. >> wait a minute. do you think she will lose any votes because of her -- are you talking about her support for -- absolutely. >> that's long forgotten. >> everything he did to make the presidential hurt. everything she does inevitably comes back to bite her. i would just say go with the ben kissle approach. smoke whatever is legal -- let's just say you want some colorado tobacco. do nothing and in 20 years you
12:14 am
may become president. >> works for biden. >> he may be hoping in. >> hillary is not worthy of iraq anymore. it is cool. >> all of those sins will be for given. >> he is the 17th republican to join the 2016 race but in our heart he is number one. joining us is the former governor of virginia jim gilmore. thank you for being here. >> good morning. how are you? >> good, good. i like that. good morning. so far governor, you seem like the kind of low key and very serious candidate. should i say one of the silver candidates running? what are you going to do to grab people's attention? >> i liked your sequence on the robot and then you saw hillary's ad. we may be seeing two robots there. you know what i am going to do
12:15 am
is talk about the country. i want to build up the economy. i want to get people back to work again. i want to try to protect the country from the danger it is in. i was told there was room for army intelligence and intelligence robots and i entered the race. >> governor obviously you have a lot of foreign policy experience and you have a lot of -- a lot to offer in terms of national security. are those the issues people are caring about this year? >> absolutely. that's the thing. i have been a governor of the state, but also i have a foreign policy background. my uva was in foreign policy. i was a governor during the 9/11 attack. i chaired the national commission on homeland security. i am an army intelligence agent and so i have the experience to talk about this. i think america is dog gone
12:16 am
concerned when you talk about isis and everything that has gone on in iran. i just think it is what the american people care about. i have the experience to deal with it. >> john was on our show. when you made your announcement he said this on the panel. he said the last time he held office you two didn't exist. do you think this disqualifies you as much as he does? >> social media is a good thing. i am out there trying to talk to people every day about it. he is right about that though. i am going to tell you that i think it is an important moment and i have the background experience to deal with it. that's the issue. what are we gonna do? we are just not gonna keep going in the same direction. we don't want to see ads like that and think that will be the future of the united states. we have to turn the country around and get people back to twork and get people employed. young people are not getting a
12:17 am
chance to have their careers started. the clinton obama people tell you that's just fine that everything is great in the economy. itnough for me. we have a lot to do. the danger we are seeing with russia and china the deterioration of the middle east isis iran, it is dangerous. i think that with the kind of background i've got i can turn things around and make the country better and safer and bring the country back. >> you are from virginia you and it is a big swing state. some say it is a must win state. ben kissle thipghts -- thinks you may be running. >> i have been the governor of virginia and i am not trying to get an honorary candidate. i want to be the president. i set policy and drove the issues and that's what i want to do. the presidency is an opportunity to get in here and do something good for the american people. i think they need it right now.
12:18 am
times are rough and that's why i want to be the president. >> would you describe yourself as a moderate republican? that's a dirty word with the republican party. i would describe you as a moderate, would you? >> well, i think of myself as a conservative. but, you know, i probably would differ from orthodoxy. i am not trying to be an orthodox guy. but i believe in the liberty of the american people and the rule of law and all of the stuff americans believe in. i want to try and do something about it and that's why i am in this thing. i can do something else, play golf but i want to help the country the way i always have. >> yeah. -- >> yeah, yeah, okay. >> one final question. you have said -- i was reading an interview on one of the mtv sites and you said the republican party desperately needs to evolve. what do you mean by evolve? where do they have to evolve?
12:19 am
>> if you look at the party and if you look at the 17 candidates or the 16 candidates -- i mean you have to feel like comedy is the issue. i have a right to get in that. this is a time when i think the party has to rededicate itself to the free enterprise system. we don't have a strong country right now. people know it. the military is not being flattered and it is being considered to be strong enough. and as a result of that our potential adversaries don't respect us and our allies are concerned about the direction we are going. it requires strong real leadership in the presidency. that's something i can provide. >> thank you governor. thanks for being with us. we'll keep our eye on you. our red eye. coming up, why too much compassion is a bad thing and don't forget to ask your doctor if recording "red eye"
12:23 am
on your last few flights you may have noticed more animals walking freely about the area plane and wonder did they loosen up the rules? they dbut probably not for everybody. there is another law called the air carrier access act which allows people to bring emotional support animals with them on flights. dogs cats, ducks and even pigs. whatever you need for emotional support. they ride for free and they get a seat. naturally many are abusing the law and they have been traveling with their sometimes exotic animals. many flight attendants say the
12:24 am
practice is getting out of hand and change had -- changes are necessary and more guidelines and stringent certification process isnesser is a. how about calling it all off? if you are so emotionally traj jill -- fragile you can't fly without a potbellied pig sit -- sitting next to you you have to stay home. sorry, not sorry. you have to show lack of compassion to another. that is everyone else on the flight. >> we are too compassionate. right or wrong? >> i think wrong. we are not compassionate enough. i love seeing animals on a flight. i would much rather sit next to a pig than a baby every day. >> this could cause problems though if you have to evacuate the plane. they are not trained. at least the seeing eye dog he sees the blind man off the
12:25 am
plane . >> they all ate each other. there are a bunch of pot bellied pigs on board then you are eating like a king. i think it is a wonderful idea. i love potbellied pigs. >> you can eat the pigs where they store them down below but these are emotional support animals. the woman next to me had the dog out and i'm sure it was an emotional pet. she was stroking it like she had problems. the whole flight the thing was out. i thought this pet is supposed to be under the seat, but i looked it up, and no, now if you have an emotional problem you can keep him out. >> i fly drunk and i don't have problems with dogs, cats, ferrets, pigs as possible. >> what is wrong with the panel? no animals on the plane. >> at least the pig is not going to try to talk to you.
12:26 am
nothing is worse than being on a plane and somebody trying to start a conversation. obviously people are abusing the system. it costs $95 to fly your pet -- $95 each way. >> way more than that. >> i thought it was 95. regard regardless, rule with an iron fist and they should crackdown on the nonsense. >> rick, something tells me you are pro-animal like the rest of them. there should be one rule, only dogs on the plane. seriously cats on a plane? it is like sneezing and allergic reaction. pigs on a plane? i'm sorry if you have a pig don't fly on the plane. stay home with the pig. dogs should totally be allowed. dogs are emotional support. and by the way when an airline stewardess complains i am on the opposite side. they have the easiest job of the the -- job in the world.
12:27 am
union scale. >> they want you to be safe. >> they are very upset. they are cracking down, but where are they cracking down? i read that the head of american airlines flight attendants unions said that any animal can get by besides a snake. meanwhile i read donald trump flew yesterday. >> good point. >> i knew something was coming there. i think you are all crazy. and dogs are the same as cats. especially the airline dogs. they are like furry -- they look like cats. >> i don't want little dogs. >> the the dogs are the ones they take on the plane. >> stewardesses need to be replaced by pigs. to say they are not emotionally supportive is ridiculous. i will be upset and slam down a pound of canadian bacon, i will feel great. >> apparently there are on-line doctors and you fill out a form and there you go. you can have your pet pig on the plane. >> of course they abuse the

money raised in the sale will go toward animal conservation efforts. welcome back. time to find out what we got wrong and what we may have missed. hi andy. >> hi, tom. ben, you said you were happy hitch bot was killed in the city of brotherly love. i heard they are changing the name to the city where robots go to die. rick you said hitch bought was a foreign intel operator. i don't know if i would go that far but it is clearly an illegal immigrant. >> illegal, yeah. >> tom you asked why they don't have pictures of hitch bought being murdered. >> there is video of guy doing it. >> so we can get to the guy?
12:35 am
>> to do it in an eagles journey which surprises nobody but the people who made the hitch bought robot say they are not pressing charges. >> it is humanitarian. >> they don't even care about threatio by the way some are trying to make amends. some started a kickstarter campaign to rebuild hitch bought. he raised over $34,000. so if you figure every good person in philly pitched in, that's about $5 each. peanut butter dipped in sugar in in -- in sugar? >> it has been a trying time. i thought about it the other day and i haven't stopped. >> i feel like therapy would be more helpful. >> probably, but much more expensive. >> when tom asked you if you liked tomatoes dipped in salt the correct answer is no, you little freak. >> you asked -- is that not what you asked? >> i lightly shake a little
12:36 am
salt over my tomato. >> so you just sit there and eat tomatoes? >> a nice farm tomato sliced. >> how about b ha lsalmic -- balsalmic vin vinegar? >> too acidic. >> how about the cheese? >> picky eater here. >> tom has rules for everything. hillary, you said hillary is so phony. to me she has the same problem with kevin specey. when kevin specey graves an acceptance speech he seems like he is acting. everything he does he leams like he -- he seems like he is acting. with hillary she could be speaking about her mother -- >> on a side note everybody
12:37 am
thinks kevin spacey is gay. >> definitely a side note. >> when hillary says when i think about why i am doing this i think about my mother dorothy. i don't believe her. i would if she said the reason i am doing this is i think of my naked lust for power. then that i would buy. lisa her campaign says the purpose of these ads is to make sure every knows who she really is which is important because she hasn't been in the public eye. >> that's true. nobody knows who she is. >> if she wants to shake things up she should wear a dress. >> i might vote for dorothy. >> she seems like a nice lady. i would totally connect with her. >> rick are you on board? do we need more gilmore? >> i didn't get enough.
12:38 am
i wanted to explore foreign policy. >> farrah is your guy now? >> who? >> farrah. haven't heard of him. >> lisa, does the gop need more candidates? enough? >> i don't libeling odd numbers so we should make it even. tom is running. he told me. >> tom is running? okay. >> just to make it even. >> i was going to ask you what you thought but then i realized i don't care. >> emotional support animals. i take an emotional support animal with me every time i fly. it is called xanax. >> tom farrah said she would rather sit next to a pig than a baby and he said this is a problem if you have to evacuate. pigs aren't trained.
12:39 am
but babies are? >> yeah. a mom can carry a baby out. these people are so emotional fragile they can't fly without the pig so i continue trust them to evacuate the plane properly. >> probably they shouldn't be on the plane in the first place. >> stay home. enough. >> you said it cost $95 to bring it on a plane but these people are getting notes saying they are for emotional support and then they get the fee waived. >> that's my point. it is expensive. thank you for proving my point. >> by the way, these doctors seem as trustworthy as the ones who give out medical marijuana prescriptions. >> and lastly you said the airline spokesperson said they allow any animal besides snakes which confused you because you heard donald trump flew yesterday and that's why he has his own private jet.
12:40 am
>> these doctors sound legit >> do they? >> it is the same if you have back pain and if you needy motional support from an animal. you get two notes and you are set. >> sounds great. >> i'm done. >> thank you andy. it is time to take a break. now here is what is coming up on the next kennedy. >> on the next kennedy it is comedian michael allen black on his netflix period.
12:44 am
he remembers the 80s and he is not happy about it. over at the daily beast he says his entire 80s childhood was a big lie. and his heros from the era have all been disgraced. williams writes that 1991 was the beginning of the down fall of the 80s. when paul rueben aka pee wee herman was arrested for exposing himself in an adult movie theater. he mentions bill cosby. i think he did something wrong recently. and hulk hogan of course who was caught on tape spewing racial slurs. i shudder to think what is next. do you shudder to think what is next? >> i do. i don't know what they were
12:45 am
drinking in the say thes -- >> he seems to have some problems lately. bill cosby has had a lot of gnaw fan gnaw begans. but there were a lot of people who weren't up to no good. >> best thing to come out of the 80s was me. >> when were you born? >> i am not going to say that. >> i graduated from high school in 1984. object yutsly they were heros like michael jay fox. he was alex p key ton and now he is an inspiration to us all. >> he is a good guy right? >> we don't know because he is sick. if he wasn't sick would he still be a good guy? >> he is no bill cosby.
12:46 am
>> the fonz has been perfect. >> he is a 70s guy. >> i don't identify him with the 70s. >> kirk cameron. >> kirk cameron? >> i have seen his movies. they are dreadful and worse than what cosby did. obviously that's a joke. >> the gnaw -- nostalga will be full of angst and anger. i don't know if he is married but bubba the love sponge that was watching him have sex with his wife, but he is the hulkster and he was lying to us this whole time. >> to tell you the truth it was ridiculous.
12:47 am
they stripped him of everything and wiped him clean of the website. that's not fair. >> it goes to show that you can't get away with anything anymore. anything you do will be caught on tape jie. that was bad though. >> orie hashed though. >> hating america? >> all of you are for hating america. we cleared her of the charges. >> we cleared it here on "red eye." it was a lot -- it was a lot of huffing and puffing. oh come on. she said i hated america. >> shoo looked at donut. >> do you think she went through it? >> yes, i do. >> the way they kicked him in

the hall of fame and it is like the wwe has a moral -- it is a moral compass for the company. it had a character who was an indentured servant who would get on all four's and pick up ones so there is no way hulk hogan is the worst thing that has happened coming from the wwe. i think linda mcman wants to make another senate run. >> they just published a quiz, which cable news host are you? to find out you answer a series of questions like in high school you were blank. what do you do at a cocktail party? and what is your favorite music. i took the quiz and let's see who i am. i guess it is accurate, right?

thing. if you put it on full power it would pummel you against the wall and kill you. you don't want it to go to full power. rick, would you use one of these things? >> how do you hit the snooze? >> that's the whole idea there is no snooze. you can't go back. the bed is up. >> you hit snooze and it comes back. there is this process you gradually get out of bed because you hit snooze. >> you can't hit snooze. this is all or nothing. i would never buy this bed. >> i never have a problem getting out of bed. i am not sure i would need something like this. i don't eep use an alarm. -- i don't even use an alarm. >> i think this gives a new mepping to waking up -- this gives a new meaning to waking up on the wrong side of the bed. look, this guy is my hero. it is hard to wake up in the morning. you obviously could not sleep through this. >> we need inventors.
12:55 am
we don't have old-fashioned guys like this they more. we talked about two robots, the drifter robot. apparently i am not human. the invention is awful and dare i say offensive? >> really? so you are against it because you would sleep through it? >> when i was in summer camp i fell asleep and rolled off. i am a big roller in bed. i can't stop doing it. i fell down 15 feet and fell asleep and stayed there in the floor. i am a heavy sleeper and i don't like to wake up early and you should only be up from midnight to 4:00 a.m. >> sounds like are you a candidate for a sleep study. >> and you are a candidate for the -- are you a candidate for the bo bottom bunk. >> i was so big i don't
