from those groups and the people who want to do something. the business owners who still haven't recovered their businesses -- >> apparently he is in critical, not stable condition. >> don't shoot at the cops. that's a simple lesson. you shoot at police officers wearing a vest that says police, they are going to shoot back. >> absolutely. here's another story that's outraged people. down in roebuck, alabama. a detective was beaten and pistol whipped until unconscious by an ex-felon. what's terrible about this story, is people have posted photos on facebook and social media and they are mocking him. the suspect, cunningham, disobeyed and hit the officer with his own gun while he was being apprehended. these things started popping up in social media. >> here's a difference on how things are reported. you have a white police officer

beaten by a 34-year-old, maybe not lifelong, but a criminal with a significant history who happens to be a black man. where's the reporting on the crime versus the color of skin? the media will report more -- they will report more on ferguson and the black lives matter movement than they will on a criminal who happens to be black beating a police officer because he is white. >> the president of the fraternal order of police saying he was there lifeless while people were standing there taking pictures, if the tables were turned and there was a suspect laying there, there would be rioting. >> the officer who was shot recently, and a resident got involved, the cop has been shot. that by the way in a primarily black neighborhood. this is not black versus white or white versus black. this is good versus bad, and we have to turn around as communities and start doing something about this.

caused gifford to set out the next season. in 1962, he returned to the game before retiring for good two years later. gifford was inducted into the pro football hall of fame in 1977. he was a broadcaster for multiple networks both during and after his playing days, including abc and cbs. in 1971 he was named the play by play man for monday night football, anchoring alongside howard cosell and don meredith. he spent 27 years. gifford married his third wife in 1986, they had two children, adding two sons and a daughter to his first marriage. he met her while they we together at abc's good morning america. he was caught in 1977 with a

a frantic rescue at sea after a sailboat catches fire off the coast of new jersey. black smoke billowing high above an ocean. yet a man, woman and their dog fleeing the ship on a life raft. coast guard arriving within 10 minutes and brought them to shore in ocean city, new jersey. they were not hurt. 46-foot sailboat eventually sank. the cause of the fire is under investigation. that's a bad weekend. kentucky school district says this school officer handcuffing this special needs kid does not violate policy. the p sued the school district and the officer for handcuffing the kids but after an independent investigation, they say he was in line with the restraint policy designed to keep students safe.

issue and now they're making some changes. it's not going to happen in the entire store. it's just going to happen in certain departments. for example, in the kids' bedding area, sign also no longer state for boys or girls. instead it will say kids' bedding. in the toy aisle they're removing reference to gender including the use of pink, blue, yellow or green paper. you'll likely see changes in the toy aisle, home department, entertainment department as well. in some areas like apparel, the signs will stay the same. guests have raised important questions about a handful of signs that offer product suggestions based on gender. and a couple of months ago someone tweeted a picture of a sign that said "building set" and below that it said "girls' building sets." that tweet received thousands of

stage. i think that a lot of people are giving her an extra look now that perhaps they didn't know who she was before. the elephant in the room has been a little surreal in that there's a ton of input. my twitter feed and facebook page, e-mail is clogged. a lot of it negative. some positive. and people thought that we were too tough at times. we came out. i looked at the whole debate last night and, you know, there was a lot of substance in that debate if you look at the whole thing, over two hours. >> no doubt. >> not just the first segment. >> you were questioning yourself. you feel as though a lot of the feedback was negative? >> no, no, i'm not questioning myself. i think we did the right thing. we asked tough questions. but i do want to acknowledge the feedback that we're getting. >> bret, honestly, people loved the fact that they weren't able

to just resort back to their talking points. different perspective and they were airtight. they did a remarkable job. let me ask you about carly fiorina. >> next time she might be on the main stage. >> right? we're talking about her. she definitely is experiencing a rise in support post that debate at 5:00 pm. this is her talking about it. >> we've certainly seen an uptick in financial support. we've seen an uptick in support generally and so it's very exciting. i would also remind you that at this time in previous presidential elections, the polls and pundits and the money said jimmy carter couldn't win, ronald reagan couldn't win, bill clinton couldn't win and barack obama couldn't win. so the truth is this race has just gotten started and game on. >> game on is right. according to that nbc news survey monkey poll, she is the winner. when asked who won the debate carly fiorina had it at 22% and under her was donald trump. >> i think you'll see more of

they would all pledge to support the republican nominee and not run as a third party. my one question i regret not asking, senator paul didn't raise their hand. all the other candidates said if donald trump is the nominee, we're going to support him. >> one of the interesting things to come out of the debate. >> you mentioned to me on radio that ted cruz came up to you on one of the break and said don't forget about me. i saw in this poll he went up 7 points, if you are to believe this nbc poll. can you tell us about that a little? >> he came up to us and said, you know, i would love to have more time here. so would everybody. we were trying to juggle real time, people in our ears, producers saying this person had too many as far as timing to
