demonstrations. no major incidents of violence this time. but water bottles and other debris were thrown at police in riot gear. several arrests were made after protesters refused to clear a road way. this has marked one year since the death of michael brown. he was a black teenager shot by a white police officer in fergus ferguson. rich, things have quieted down now. but it was a far different scenario earlier. what kind of problem did it pose for police and the community? >> now, absolutely, kelly. it is a much different scene right now than it was a short time ago here. this represents the dividing line between protesters are on the far side and police on this side and in a handful of times throughout the evening. they have been clashing at various points. different altercations, police skg them to not walk on the roadway, and protesters were

pushing thei inin ining the bar. at different times of the evening. they blobbed traffic and threw water bottles and they came through and arrested several people, and using mace in several cases, once as protesters walked down the street this way crossing to this side of the street, police intervened there. the vehicles came in, transport vehicles came in a number of cases. so, it would be moments and moments of not much going on. hours of it in fact. and it seemed as though the crowd was beginning to on disperse and then all of a sudden, the bottles and sticks came again. we have now for last hour or so, been in a point where the crowd is dwindling on both sides. the crowd and protesters side and it seems to be getting more so at this point, where you have a handful of police officers and folks left on the that side of the road. >> follow-up quickly.

st. louis county police chief said on and night that it seems to be many people want peace, but there's others that are intent on making sure that peace does the not happen. did you see any indication at all that the people would goat to a point where the police and community came together and started to work together to build a more peaceful community? >> well, you seen within the ranks of the protesters, you have seen times when there's been those that were far more in the way of instigating toward the police department and those looking to stop it and almost arguments in those ranks. those calling for them to get out of the street and go back and continue to peacefully protest on the side and stop throwing water bottles. we have seen in ferguson and we saw it in baltimore. when that was the case when there were people in the ranks

of the protesters that seemed to want to start a fight and others that wanted to make their stand and that that fight continues within them. that was very much the case here this evening. >> the struggle to find peace maintain it continues. and again, for our viewers that want to remind you, gunfire broke out there, a 18-year-old man was shot and critically wounded by police. a state of emergency was declared throughout st. louis county. >> there's too many people that work too hard, and i'm not talking about the police department, i'm talking about people in the community, they worked too hard for this to happen and be under mined. >> the state of emergency did not stop peep from staging a display of civil disobedience, doz dozens were arrested for blocking traffic near ferguson. the demonstrators say they want
