said the number of gun-related homicides dwarves deaths by terrorism. you say? >> they also chop heads off and it's totally absurd to compare the two. this is an act of an insane man. terrorism is different. there's a whole ideology behind it. this is going to take an awful lot of human ingenuity, meaning insanity. terrorism is not hard to figure out. terrorism is being driven by an extreme islamic hatred. there's a way to fight it, deal with it, organize it. the difference between investigating organized crime which i did a lot of and random crime.

back off. so the trick is get the guns out of the hands of the bad guys, put the guns in the hands of the good guys and by the way, the bad guys largely don't go register, so it didn't help you very much. could we do a better job of classifying mental illness? this guy gave us a lot of signals that maybe should have been reported in a database. >> he was told by his employer go see a doctor but he was never officially diagnosed. >> and the employer was probably afraid because of eeoc and everything else to call the police and say hey, this guy sounds kind of dangerous, it looks like he had a couple of fights. he was a violent guy. >> let me ask you about using words as weapons. hillary clinton yesterday in cleveland, ohio, decided to compare the gop republicans to terrorists. watch this. >> extreme views about women, we

this week we learned workers at a memphis va hospital abandoned paralyzed veterans leaving some to sit alone unattended for hours. one decorated vietnam veteran had to wait one year for medicine to arrive because someone changed his address to coo coo lane. wow. welcome to you both. you both have standing to talk about this issue. you both served, go to va. carl, you were wounded during is service. you've been in va. what's your experience been? does it leave you to agree or disagree with carson? >> i wasn't injured. i had some injuries. they diagnosed me with the wrong injury. veterans administration diagnosed a lot of people improperly. they're sending out letters now trying to compensate guns.

the entire administration is upside down beyond repair. >> we learned in the intro this week, 21% of slots for psychiatrists at the va are vacant. more than half of returning veterans claim ptsd. is there an excuse for that? >> there's no excuse for that. no one has been more critical. it's unacceptable. we have veterans waiting too long. we need to not make the problem worse when we talk about solutions. let's fix va. as a marine, we never ran from a fight. we stayed and fought for vete n veterans. to say we're going to close the va is a bad idea. i'm not a management consultant. i've never heard of idea that says we're going to make bad democracy better by doubling size and giving to another --
