that didn't stop staff from why he would appear in the first place even though that appears to be pretty darn obvious. here is ed henry. >> hillary clinton came here to minneapolis for the dnc summer meetings because she wants to stop the bleeding over the controversy. she's trying to get back on message about the middle class and trying to shift the focus away from the scandals. that's why yesterday you heard her on the campaign trail, attacking republicans, comparing them to terrorists. today it was her going after the gop front-runner donald trump, suggesting in her words the party of lincoln has become the party of trump, attacking him on immigration. and she is also trying to stave off this potential threat from vice president joe biden, trying to convince these dnc numbers that she doesn't need someone to come in and rescue the party. each time she tries to turn the page from the controversies, there's new information. you mentioned the speeches vol bill clinton. there's also new e-mails

obtained about fox news about huma abedin, one of her top aides and how she had all these intersecting responsibilities working at the state department, but also helping the clinton foundation, working for a private consulting company, tenao, all of this intersection now catching the eye of senator chuck grassley. so i asked hillary clinton at a news conference today. here was her response that got a bit defensive. >> let me answer one of your questions because i think that's what you are entitled to. >> now in fairness to hillary clinton, that was a more combative candidate, that might be something that some of her supporters, especially on the left are looking for. there's a big "the new york times" piece today suggesting that democrats all around the country are frustrated that clinton has not dealt more directly with this e-mail controversy. the clinton foundation issues as well has been play together much defense and has joked about it,

tried to joke it off by making that snap chat joke a couple of weeks ago, and then telling me last week in las vegas at another news conference about wiping a serve were a cloth. she's now trying to shift strategy because it's not just about the controversies. it's about the possible entry of joe biden who was not here in minneapolis. but the draft biden folks were here. telling democrats behind closed doors keep your powder dry because the vice president may get in this race very soon. tucker? >> thanks, ed. here now with reaction to all of this is the president of citizens united david bossy, from the hill newspaper fox news contributor doug schoen. welcome to all of you. >> thank you. >> doug, i want to start with you. >> sure. >> you have a long association with the clintons. you know them well. this seems almost unbelievable that bill clinton would even for a second entertain speaking requests from north korea and congo? and by the way i should say that the north korean request was forwarded by his brother-in-law. tony rodham, whose career is

never quite clear. this is like a joke. , it wasrently it's real. a mistake to consider them. i certainly believe that. i think most people would. that being said, they were vetted by the state department with a clear unambiguous no, which is the reaction that hillary clinton state department should have had. i'm glad they had it. >> so, dave, just to be clear, if i called the irs and said i'm thinking about not paying taxes for the next ten years or hiding some of my income that i get from robbing liquor stores and they say no, and i'm caught doing it, but i checked with law enforcement and they said it wasn't okay to commit this crime. who would even ask? it's so crazy and revealing. >> i cannot believe what he just said. but, look. he is correct. the state department didn't allow them. that's not the issue. the issue is bill clinton would do anything for money. and when it came to the congo it clearly states in the e-mail he wanted to hide the money,

$650,000 in the foundation and that's what this is all about. >> so ab, this is one snapshot into bill clinton's life during the four years his wife served as secretary of state. he did more than $48 million of for-profit speaking during that time. we don't know much about most of it. if you're the democrat supporting the only real candidate running, hillary clinton, you've got to be concerned that maybe more shoes are going to drop, no? >> really funny that you used that expression. because in my column about the clintons today i said, it's always raining shoes. >> it is. >> that's the one promise they give you is flying footwear. if you look at this, imagine they were just unveiled by the citizens united suit from yet another lawsuit. this is out of nowhere. sthnt this isn't platt river holding the server that may have been empty at the time.

doesn't have to do with benghazi that has to do with a criminal investigation. this is out of nowhere, another revelation of the overlap between the state department and the clinton's personal wealth. then at the same time, this very week you have the senate judiciary chairman, chuck grassley going after, focusing more closely on huma abedin, the long-time aide of hillary clinton who was able to work simultaneously in three places, raising funds for the clinton foundation while she was at a corporate advisory started by an ex-clinton staffer and at the state department all at the same time. this is a puree of conflicts of interest. >> oh, yeah. >> and if you're a democrat, this is really scary. >> i would think so. doug, i want to get back to a thought that hasn't gotten a lot of attention. the north korea gig was apparently set up by tony rodham. they're one of hillary clinton's two brothers. they're popping up in various suits.

and in the news every once in a while. what do these guys do for a living? any clue? >> i don't know. you'll have to ask them. i can't speak for their professional engagements such as they are. but that being said, i'm very glad that bill clinton did not take up either of those opportunities. but he wasn't going to launder them or hide them. going to go into the foundation presumably for good work. >> no, no, wait. hold on. hold on. no, hold on. just add facts here. >> decisions to take the money, to put money in a foundation is not -- >> we don't know that. the speech to the democratic republic of congo, one of the worst countries on earth was arranged by harry walker, the speaker's agency. and they said, and they're a for-profit business. they said whoa, no, i don't think you should do this. and the clinton people said we should talk about it. >> you clearly are wrong. >> but it's very important that we remember up until recently, they weren't going to tell us all of the donors in the foundation. that's why back two years ago it

was going to be okay to hide it in the foundation. >> glad they've told us and glad we know. >> but it's so little that we know. and every time we learn anything, it's shocking. hillary clinton's remark that republicans who oppose any kind of abortion at all under any circumstances are like isis. they're terrorists. she said this on purpose. it wasn't ad-libbed. i heard you say something so smart off the air. a minute ago. you said he was inspired by trump. explain what you meant by that. >> i think she is trump's rise. and everything he says goes. he doesn't take a, you know, a licking for anything, no matter how outrageous it is. she's also desperate, tucker, more important, to change the topic. she succeeded in doing that. we focused on how outrageous the comment was for several hours or half of a 24-hour cycle before going back to this kind of a mass of a press conference today

that she had trying to answer these questions again and deflect and becoming defensive. it did work. it was outrageous. it doesn't fly. it was over the line. i don't think democrats liked it. but she's really desperately trying to change the topic from the e-mails server. >> basically, doug schoen, if elizabeth warren had been the presumptive democratic nominee and not hillary clinton, i think it would have been a lot easier for democrats. how exactly did they buy her off? how did they convince her not the run? >> i don't think they bought her off. i think she made a decision not to run. which, tucker, given hillary's slide in the polls and biden's perspective run and bernie sander's rise, could be revisited as bobby kennedy revisit his decision in '68. >> yes, he did. thank you for joining us. >> thank you. >> doug schoen, ab stoddard, thanks a lot. >> you see my statements.

former president george w. bush traveling to louisiana and mississippi on friday ten years after hurricane katrina's devastation. he visited a school rebuilt with support from former first lady laura bush's foundation. mr. bush also attended an event honoring police and firefighters. he never mentioned his administration's response to katrina, which historians consider a low point of his presidency. the largest wildfire ever recorded in washington state is getting bigger. the flames spreading another 22 square miles, bringing the total to more than 470 square miles. the fire is just 12% contained. three firefighters have died. dozens of homes have been destroyed. firefighters are now concerned about high winds, which could make the blaze more difficult to fight. i'm robert gray. now back to "hannity." we have to rebuild the

infrastructure of the united states. we're spending money supporting countries that don't even like it. we're giving military weapons to can countries that flee as soon as a weapon. you know the great wall of china is 13,000 miles. this wall is 2000 or less, but you only need a thousand. so they could do 2,000 years ago, they could build the great wall of china, but they say how do you build a thousand mile? give me a break. so easy, and it will be great. people want to see real change, not obama change. but real change. really positive change. and you know what they want to see more than anything else? they want to see victory. we don't have victories anymore. this country doesn't have victories anymore. they're going see so many victories, they may get tired of winning that much. i don't know. it's possible they'll get tired winning that much. you'll see so many victories if i'm elected president. >> that was 2016 republican

front runner donald trump talking to the press earlier tonight before an event around boston. as we've seen, trump is never afraid to speak his mind. he did it again this week and made headlines for his comments about taxes. here's part of what he said. >> i would let people that are making hundreds of millions of dollars a year pay some tax. because right now they're paying very little tax, and i think it's outrageous. >> you would like to raise taxes on yourself? >> that's right. i'm okay with it. ready, willing. you've seen my statements. i do very well. i don't mind paying some taxes. the middle class is getting clobbered in this country. the middle class built this country, not the hedge fund guys. >> conservatives like trump by and large. but here he is calling for tax increases. what gives? joining me with reaction, fox business network charles gasparino and tammy bruce. welcome to you both. i'm kind of bewildered by this. you know trump really well. he doesn't have orthodox conservative views. here's another example. what's going on. >> he was never a conservative until ten minutes ago. i personally like donald a lot.

personally, shrink a great businessman. he hasn't spent a dime on the campaign, yet he is number one in the polls. maybe to fuel his jet, but still he's spent almost nothing. he doesn't have a tax plan. and what little we know about what he wants to do, he sounds a lot like hillary clinton. he wants to tax some rich people, wants to give the middle class people a tax cut. he hates hedge funds. i think the reason why he hates hedge funds, and i've heard this from others, is because they're all supporting jeb bush. what an easier way to get back at bush's supporters than to say hey, guy, i'm going to tax you. >> i wonder, tammy, getting bogged down in the details of trump's proposal series impossible because there aren't any. but i wonder if that's missing the point. the truth is small parts of our society are really prospering like they never have before, and huge parts are drowning or dying. the middle of the country is dying. isn't he speaking to that frustration? >> he's clearly running not as a conservative but as a populist.

and that's i think is becoming very apparent. these are messages that even elizabeth warren could send. >> right. >> the issue, though, genuine conservatism is about having everybody pay less tax. having there be more freedom. having it be about smaller government, right, not about kind of doing this 1% against everyone else again. so that's concerning. however after seven years of being punched in the face every day and a president who clearly seems to not like us, it's interesting to hear a man who is appealing i think to some very base feelings which are legitimate. but the answer is not playing the same game in a different way but in freeing up the tax dynamic. and a flat tax in general i think is a good idea as well. but he's not speaking to that. look, there are no details. but barack obama had no details. and the last conservative we had was george w. bush. >> barack obama had details. >> can i ask a question? >> medicare part d and he started the -- nationalized health care.

>> it's bad to crush the top 1% if they're the innovators, the entrepreneurs. but if they're people that have to be rich because they're close to power, maybe it's not a bad idea. >> go to upstate new york and you'll understand why his message is resonating differently. >> exactly, republican voters who are white working class people who have seen their, you know, generally their paychecks get smaller. i mean i think donald is brilliant. either he did it or someone sat down and said let's get five issues that we know that a big portion of the republican electorate who isn't rich, who don't come from wall street, who is not part of the entrepreneurial class, who is working class and what they feel most threatened by. immigration, the fact that these wall street fat cats are making money and you're not. there is a couple other, china. >> those are all real things. >> they're real things but are they at the top? is that's what is causing us economic hardship? >> i don't know. >> the problem with the economy post the financial crisis is

that you had a financial crisis and you had president obama looking to heap taxes and regulations that slowed down the economy. >> let me flip this around tammy. why should republican candidates feel morally bound to defend hedge funds? >> i think whenever you can argue it in that the government shouldn't be launching into this kind of position anyway. that's not the enemy. s they a shiny squirrel. that the enemy is a government that so gigantic, it's grown into its lounge chair and wants more pizza. >> what a repulsive image. >> his answer, let me finish, there has to be more government intervention, more taxes, more. this. >> right. >> where as the genuine answer and even a genuinely populist answer is we want infrastructure. >> back off. >> but we want you to back off. i think this is about appealing to certain people's emotions. but a lot of conservatives i know, if you deal with immigration properly, they'll almost give him a blank check to do anything else. >> that's true. >> really quick.

the debate over that issue resurfaced almost immediately this week after two journalists were shot and killed during a live broadcast. it's been a hot topic all through the year and for the 2016 presidential candidates. watch this. >> unless they want to erase the second amendment. that's what they want to do and i'm against it. if that's what they want to do, be honest about it and say this is what you want to do. otherwise, none of the laws they're pushing would be anything about it. >> it's not about the guns. it's about mental instability. you have people with great mental instability. >> i strongly believe we've got to have common sense reforms to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals, the violently unstable, domestic abusers and even terrorists who find it pretty easy in our country to get ahold of a weapon if they so choose. >> what i'm seeing in general, the problem i see as a governor is that we're not focusing enough on mental health. and all you hear now is let's have new laws, new laws, when we don't enforce the laws we have.

>> i do believe there is a lot of growing consensus out there that combat weapons should not be available for sale. >> well, joining me now with reaction to all of this, criminal defense attorney eric guster and fox news contributor. katie pavlich. welcome to you both. why are the politicians surrounded by armed guards always lecturing us about we have no right the defend ourselves. hillary clinton said just call 911. if someone came to her house armed do you think she would call 911? >> i think she would have some men with guns handling that business before she calls 911. the supreme court has ruled that the police have no obligation to protect you. so she is false on that point. but also, yes, they outsource their protection. and in the case of this week and in the tragedy that we saw, it's really important to point out that these politicians were calling for more gun control, more laws on citizens when they had no idea what the facts of the case were. and the reason that they do that and these emotional situations, because they have to have the conversation about gun control in an emotional state. because in a sober state, in a

sober situation, their debate about gun control doesn't hold water and none of their statistics about why they need more gun control hold up. they can only have the argument when there's a tragedy there. because otherwise they can't make their point. >> i think that's a wise point. eric, i'm as upset by these shootings as anybody in america. i want to take the argument seriously because i think it's a real argument. i want you to assess it as soberly as you can. is there a law you're aware of in the state of virginia that democrats are calling for that had it been passed would have prevented this tragedy this week? >> i don't know of any law that would have prevented this tragedy. this man had no criminal record, no criminal history. there was nothing. i heard what hillary clinton was saying about domestic abuser and those types of things. there are laws to prohibit domestic abusers to having gun. i'm in alabama today doing the show. we love our football and our guns. everyone has the right to have a firearm unless they fall into certain categories. and when democrats and other

people are trying to say, hey, keep the guns out of people, we need more gun control and using a tragedy. the worst part is them using a tragedy to say oh my gosh, we need to make stricter gun laws. it's not like this guy walked in with an uzi or some assault rifle and did this. this is a regular pistol that anyone could have gotten and he got it the legal way. it's a bad argument. >> that's exactly right. i don't want to be cynical, katie, but i'm starting to think this isn't really about protecting the public. if you were dead set on protecting the public, you would think deeply about how to keep guns out of the hands of crazy people. you wouldn't worry about me. you would worry about keeping schizophrenics from getting guns. >> right. >> this isn't about public safety. it's about social control, isn't it? >> i think it's really important to bring this up. and i'm glad that you did. bloomberg's every town for gun safety and against gun violence. >> that would be mike bloomberg who is surrounded by armed guards right now. >> exactly. who has also been questioned about will you give up your

security and he says no. his group were out this week jumping to conclusions about the situation. and the fact that that they try to take responsibility for the good work that the national shooting sports foundation has done to incentivize states to put mental health records into the federal background check system so the people with mental problems are caught in the system when they go through the fbi background check to prevent tragedies like we saw this week. then they do the hard work and actually having a solution and protecting the public and really hard data to prove it and they come in and say look how the background check system has been improved. this is due to our work at every town when it's not. it's actually the pro-gun people protecting the second amendment rights, improving the mental health check system. in this country. >> i'm glad you mentioned the 2nd amendment. number two in the bill of rights. eric, you're a lawyer. the supreme court ruled twice on on this in recent years, affirming the a second amendment, is in fact an individual right to keep and bear arms. short of repealing that amendment, none of these solutions really add up, do

they? shouldn't liberals be honest, they want to repeal the second amendment, why not say so. >> right. if they want to repeal it, just say that instead of trying to put all of the provisions to essentially keep guns out of law abiding people. and we have to make sure that we don't let these tragedies like this make us into an emotional state where oh my gosh, we have to do something about these guns. no. this is a fool who had a gun. i'm heart broken for this family. some people have tragedies like this that impact them. but we can't make a knee jerk reaction to say let's get rid of all of the guns, because let's stop everyone from having a gun because everyone can have a gun. every citizen can have a gun to protect their family from intruders. because the bad guys already have them. >> right. >> so good people need to have them too. >> i'll give up my guns when mike bloomberg gives up his. it's the public school debate. your kids ought to go to some crummy public school run by union members, but my kids go to

sidwell. this is a class debate to a large extent. people in the ivory tower dictating from on high to below what those people should do. >> and giving you false information. i do want to stress that the police have no legal obligation to, quote, protect you. they are the second line of defense, you are your first line of defense. and that is the way it's going to be every single time. >> it's going to take them ten minutes to get there anyway. you'd be dead. >> exactly. >> today is the tenth anniversary of katrina. first thing that happened, after the levees broke, the police left. people were on their own. those without guns became victims. those with guns didn't. it's that simple. a senior on trial for rape. verdict came in today. do you have a opinion on that? >> i saw the testimony, saw the young lady's testimony. this is what i expected. one thing about this case that we have to look at, we have to look at the statutory rape laws. this young man was essentially convicted of having sex with someone who was in the same school, within the same age range but there's too big of an age difference. throughout the united states we

course, on the campaign trail. just yesterday, she compared her republican opponents to terrorists, isis members when it comes to abortion. what is amazing that hillary clinton continues to support planned parenthood, even after those undercover videos released by the center for medical progress horrified the country. they showed high level employees of planned parenthood and the company stemexpress talking about selling baby parts. we're going to show them part of one of them. we've got to warn you, it's horrifying and stomach turning. if you have kids in the room, you may want to ask them to leave. here is part of it. >> looking for a specific. wow, i didn't even know. good for them. yeah, if you had cases which we've done a lot, we sometimes shift those back in its entirety. if you have impact cases, we sometimes ship those back to our lab in the entirety. tell the lab it's coming. >> so if we alter a process and we're able to obtain intact fetal cadavers, it's all just a

matter of a line item. >> what would keep your lab happy? what would make your lab happy? >> another 50 livers a week. >> what would make your lab happy? >> another 50 liver as week. >> oovrt another 50 livers a week. joining me now with reaction governor mike huckabee of arkansas. great to see you tonight. what do you make of hillary clinton's comments especially in light of her continued support of planned parenthood? >> well it's hard for me to begin to understand what hillary was thinking, although this was scripted. this was not an off-the cuff remark that she just accidentally blurted out. all of us have done this. this was scripted. she looked at her script. she intended to say this. this is what makes it so remarkable. tucker, she is talking about terrorists. i'll tell you what terrorists do. terrorists cut people's heads off and that's what they do in the planned parenthood clinics. if she wants to talk about protecting women, what about

protecting the women who thought they were going in for a procedure to remove a mass of tissue and in fact a baby with a heartbeat, arms, legs, toes and eyeballs was hacked to death and the parts sold. without that woman understanding that she had been exploited. she had been used and somebody had made money off of her grief. if that's hillary's definition of taking care of women, certainly hope i'm the one who gets an opportunity to stand on the stage and debate her about a year from now. >> this is such an emotional subject. whoa you said is so upsetting, it's almost hard to talk about. but i want to be as nonemotional and clinical as i can be and talk about the politics. hillary clinton's position is that there ought to be no restrictions of any kind on abortion up to the very end of the third term for the purposes of sex selection. whatever. she's against any kind of restriction on abortion. is that judging by the polls, your understanding of what the

polls of american public opinion are. is that a mainstream position, literally mainstream, in the center of what americans think? >> it isn't. but even if it was, it's immoral. this is one of those issues that we ought to forget about the politics. somebody ought to provide the kind of leadership to say, i don't care what the polls show. this is the mark of a barbarian society. this is not the actions of a civilized people. civilized people don't hack other people to death and then sell the parts because there's money to be made from it. and that's why i find it offensive when people say, let's see what the polls say. let's don't worry about what the polls say. let's say what right and wrong say. >> my point is, she's the extremist here. literally an extremist. >> absolutely. >> she has views that only a tiny percentage of people would have. i don't want to impugn anybody's

character, really, but how could you look at those videos and say i'm okay with that? >> she's admitted that she hasn't looked at the videos. and i think it's pretty evident that she couldn't look at the videos and continue to stand up at the podium and make the kind of flippant remarks that she did toward republicans and terrorism. the fact is, if she wants to talk about terrorism, and that is classic clinton misdirection, let's change the subject so we don't talk what hillary ought to be talking about, and that's releasing top secret information. but if she wants the talk about terrorists, explain the terrorists that killed four americans the night of benghazi on september 11th, 2012. those were real terrorists, and they killed real americans. and she needs to give us some better answers than she has given so far. >> really quickly, i want to get your take on something that sheriff clarke had from milwaukee, responding to questions about black lives matter. a group that hillary clinton recently met with. here's sheriff clarke's view of that group. >> let's take a lock at this

group, black lives matter, which i have renamed black lies matter, l-i-e-s. this is the hands up don't shoot. the whole thing is built on a lie. the whole premise is built on a lie. but it's a conglomeration of misfits. you have occupy movement. you have organized labor in on it now. you have criminals. you have black racialists. you have cop haters and anarchists have now formed together this bold movement, if you will. >> so if that's right, should democratic candidates even be meeting with this group? >> i don't think they should or if they do meet with them they ought to meet and say you can't go around and elevate one group of our citizens above another. the essence of america is we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all of us are created equal. all lives matter. i gott in a lot of trouble, got really criticized this week for saying what i just said. because supposedly, it's
