happy labor day, everybody. i'll see you on tuesday on fox business network. >> another media frenzy at trump trailer as the donald will not mound a third party campaign sounding off on everything including tom brady and kanye west. >> as far as jeb is concerned i watched hill open television this morning. it is a little bit sad. don't forget, he was supposed to win. he just doesn't have the energy. is the press digging into the charges and counter charges between trump and bush? >> susan ferrechio took him on
2:01 pm
and is joining the prime time debate. >> cnn was targeting you and did not want you on. >> hard to walk away from a conclusion i was being disadvantaged. that is how people felt. >> and now, the media, hillary clinton, the trump and sexist coverage. hillary clinton breaks her silence on msnbc. >> are you sorry? do you want to apologize to the american people for the choice you made? >> well, it wasn't the best choice and i certainly have said that. i will continue to say that. >> what did we learn from the interview with andrea mitchell? tom brady beats the nfl and the media are still tackling him and we will not let go of delfate gate. and the nasty debates in the 60s between william becomely and gore vidal. >> do you believe in inequality?
2:02 pm
>> anything complicates including him. >> did that begin the era of toxic television? i am howard kurtz and this is "media buzz." >> the media mob filled the lobby of trump tower and cable on high alert because truck signed a pledge he supports the republican nominee even if it is not him then it was familiar: the trump show. >> frankly, i felt that the absolute best way to win and to debate the democrats and very easy, i think, beat the democrats, no matter who it may be, whether it is hillary clinton or anyone else, i think maybe hillary clinton is going do have a very hard time, frankly, with what is happening getting to the starting gate.
2:03 pm
>> joining us is susan ferrechio and matt lewis from the daily caller, and mara liasson from national public radio of fox news contributor. why did the media treat what is a going candidate pledging to support the g.o.p. nominee as a huge story? >> he gets great ratings and everyone tunes in is the number one reason. this is not just any declaration but donald trump who did not say right off the bat whether he would become a third party candidate and if made that decision with his numbers it would mean certain victory with the democrats a very consequential announcement. >> does it mean that bret baier's lead off question, raise your hands if you will not run third party that trump thought was unfair, was relevant? >> absolutely, it was a great first question. normally i hate the raise your hand questions. it was a great first question and less than a month later we
2:04 pm
have a reversal so kudos. >> this event at trump tower, mara, quieted some credits who said the unthinkable, well, he might win the nomination. >> right now he is doing pretty great. he is winning by curvature of the earth in some polls. i think that one of the interesting things about the event which was classic trump from the start to finish, everything about him is best and greatest, and his only points are smaller in every way than he, he sounded more responsible and restrained and mature and poll inned. he refused to answer question of the topless women in times square. not appropriate he said. when did you ever say something was "not appropriate." >> never. >> and he what asked of the woman in tuck not giving marriages licenses and he said he didn't know nothing about something. when did he sever said he didn't know enough about something. >> i have seen him dial it down

2:06 pm
is that important to media types? >> that is the number one question: do the public care about how he answered the question is he a hustler or a big picture genius? i think after this interview, when you look at the comments from people and hear the reaction of the public, people are say he is right, he did fire off the gotcha questions, where we in the media, wait, where is the democrat and understanding of foreign policy we need. >> elevated during this cycle and he will join the question of the chn debate. he has been on half a dozen signs and this is what he does. he ands questions about that and not knowing about the kuds force is an indictment on someone who wants to be president of united states. >> according to us. the public said when you are in office you put your people in
2:07 pm
place, you get to know who the people are, that seems to be the reaction. >> he watches the shows and that is he gets his foreign policy. >> the criteria we would apply to other candidates that would hurt them like a sarah palin or someone else not knowing who the leader of the certain country is does not work for donald trump. look what he has done, insulting megyn kelly, john mccain and hispanics and nothing happened. he keeps on going up. the fact he does not know the name of the terrorists leaders why will that affect him? >> during the interview he kept on saying, you mean kurds and he said it? the confusion with cuts -- kurds does not make sense. >> what is the purpose of center right media conservative journalism? we saw when fox news asked donald trump tough questions, megyn kelly beat you and came under attack and fox news came under attack, but hugh is doing a similar thing rather than carrying the water for donald

trump he is vetting him hoping the republican mom knee is someone prepared to take on hillary clinton. that is a service. >> it is our job to ask questions and all too often in the last three months journalists have jumped to conclusions, this will hurt, this will kill him he will drop and some people and the pundits are learn that is not the case. i will take some time to play for you back-and-forth between donald trump and jeb bush. we will start with a bush against trump and trump's response and a trump ad against jeb both on the same program. >> partial birth abortion. >> i am pro choice in every respect. >> who you like remitting the united states in a daily with iran, with this regime? >> hillary clinton would do a good job. >> you heard jeb bush you are not a conservative, more democrats than republican and this is all personally.

2:10 pm
responsibility because it is the easiest thing in the world to do the food fight, well, trump said this and bush punched back and he did not punch back offensively but ads about real issues and changes of position and voters may or may not care. i think that got lost. >> it did. there are good journalists writing the things about this and when you talk about what gives the soundbite or the clips shown on tv, it is the food fight. i will say personally i think when you compare the two ads you have shown, what donald trump showed was actually dishonest and he is taking something that jeb bush is talking about immigrant families and he is using that to talk about illegal immigrant whose murder people. jeb bush shows that donald trump is flip glopper and that is my way, again --. >> the voters do not care, he said ronald reagan was a democrat.
2:11 pm
>> and and he doesn't have to be consistent. what jeb bush is doing is he is trying to take on trump and say, look, he is a closet lib rap, a flip-flopper. that is not really what voters care about, they care that donald trump seems strong and beholden to no one and against the establishment. >> the coverage should point that out and the coverage has and there is the first layer of coverage which is all about the food fight. i have seen many fact checking articles but what jeb bush has not done and we cannot cover it until he does is station on trumpisms, not just he insults people but he stands for something, including economic grievance, against illegal immigrants and hedge fund guys getting tax breaks. that is an important formula that has worked.
2:12 pm
if it is not the republican party jeb bush needs to stand up and say so. >> by the way, it is not like the willie hover ton ad used against bestocks because he allowed willie horton to go free but this is more about pronouncement of immigration. before a break, cnn in change the 308ing criteria and letting fiorina on the stage as i will talk to her later, getting criticism for caving to pressure and not sticking with the original criteria. >> what about the other candidates, should the criteria apply evenly if we are talking about the first presidential candidate, why cut corners for her and not everyone? >> the old criteria were wrong and they did the right thing i think. i was interest offed for "washington post" style section on the original gyps of the nickname "the donald," one of the first reporters to use it and it came from his then wife

but eliquis also had significantly less major bleeding than the standard treatment. knowing eliquis had both... turned around my thinking. don't stop eliquis unless your doctor tells you to. eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. don't take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. if you had a spinal injection while on eliquis call your doctor right away if you have tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness. while taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily... and it may take longer than usual for bleeding to stop. seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. eliquis treats dvt & pe blood clots. plus had less major bleeding. both made switching to eliquis right for me. ask your doctor if it's right for you.
