classes will resume tomorrow. and from extreme weather to bring you from out west. rescuers are searching for five people believed washed away by powerful flooding in utah overnight. eight people have confirmed to be dead so far. two cars packed with women and children were swept into a flood channel in utah. in the meantime, in northern california, look at this right here. it looks more like the gates of hell. two wildfires continue to rage there. 23,000 people have been evacuated. normally, we talk about evacuations in the hundreds. this time 23,000. so many homes there have been destroyed so far. this was a hazing ritual that led to this college student's death. now more than pi delta sy fraternity -- third degree murder charges in the death of freshman pledge michael dang. dang died during a ritual in the pocono mountains two years ago. he was forced to wear a

different candidates running against donald trump. but i see no organized difference at all. >> mitt romney has been called by dald trump, he's a nice guy and a loser. that creates a bitterness, don't you think? >> i don't think mitt has a bitter bone in his body. i've never heard him say that. it's like sports. everybody thinks you could have done better. it's natural. it's what you should expect. >> what about people who say we worked so hard to get the hispanic vote back, worked hard to get the female vote back. even though donald trump's numbers are high, it hurts the party for him to be the nominee. >> i don't think he will be the nominee. i'm not even convinced he's he'll gb to the ballot in iowa and new hampshire. >> with the number two guy -- >> i don't think it will stay. one of the real differences this year, iowa caucus is not until the first of february. before it was right after the new year. we have all of january to focus on this race.

just as people never do their christmas shopping early, between january 2nd and february 1st will be a real movement in this race and it's going to take chase. >> who are you keeping an eye on in. >> who should we keep an eye on in. >> it will be chris christie, i think jeb bush, i think marco rubio. it will probably be one of those groups that wins. >> stuart, tell me about the last season. you are a political guy, it's like sports but you believe sports is an important time for you to bond with your dad. that's what this book is about. >> when i was growing up in the south, a lot of the ways my dad and i bonded and spent time together, was going to college football games, particularly ole miss games. after the romney campaign in 2012, he had turned 95 and spent the 2013 season going to the ole miss games together. >> what did that do for you? >> it was wonderful. i think that a chance to take that time and to spend it with both my parents. my dad and i go to the games.

walked away unharmed and they made our s of the morning. over to you. 24 minutes after the hour. parents, if you've been having trouble getting your child to wake up on time for school, listen to this. a wisconsin elementary school posted this sleep chart on a facebook page and sparking mixed reaction. a 5-year-old would need to go to bed at 6:45 in the evening to wake up at 6:00 a.m. a 12-year-old would need to go to bed at 9:15 to wake up at 7:00 a.m. how much is enough sleep for your child. dr. travis stork joins us with more. good morning. thanks for being with us. >> good morning. thanks for having me. >> across the board, what number of hours do you think children need? >> it's difficult to put one number out there. people are surprised when the national sleep foundation recommends 3 to 5-year-olds get 11 to 13 hours a night. as adults, we don't think in terms of 13 hours. we think in terms of 5, 6 or 7.

it's just one of those things. when the guidelines came out, i liked it. you're sending a guide. you're basically saying, okay, parents, if your kids can ideally get this amount of sleep, they're probably going to do better in school, their brains are going to develop better. they're going to have more attention throughout the day. not be listless, fatigued. this isn't a law. this is just a guide. >> shoot for the moon, maybe you'll land on a star, right? trying to get 13, maybe you'll get 11 or 12 for the young ones. >> absolutely. >> what about the parents having a hard time getting kids to go to sleep or getting them up in the morning because of their schedules in the summer? >> every household is so very different. the most important thing is setting a consistent wake time and when you do that, your kids will get into a rhythm. you'll get into a rhythm. the other thing that i often see with parents, they'll get off rhythm on the weekends or the summers like you said.

black lives matter activist. he protested in the days following michael brown's death, even attending his funeral. photos from facebook show him in a hands-up don't shoot position. you can see this right here at one of those protests. the officer was killed by police when they say he refwused to drop his gun. he was wanted for gunning down this trooper, joseph ponder, after a routine traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase. our prayers go out to the officer's family. an out of control passenger forces pilots to ground a plane in indianapolis. you can see the police escorting a woman off the american airlines jet that was bound for chicago from miami. witnesses say she was disoriented, she was kicking and screaming. she bit another passenger. she then kissed a flight attendant and then punched her in the face. passengers held down that woman until the pilot was able to land

the plane. detained but ready to mingle. this is quite a story. a guantanamo bay prisoner accused of having close ties to osama bin laden has had a match.com account for three years and apparently some sort of internet access as well. a lawyer for this man says he maintains the dating profile and the inmate gets matches from women every single day even though he's open about his location at gitmo as a prisoner there. his account has been suspended. can you believe that? wow. faith under fire in washington state. a high school football coach and 20-year veteran of the u.s. marine corps is under investigation for praying with his players. joe kennedy has been praying on the 50 yard line after games for nearly a decade now. but he never asked the kids to join him. they do so voluntarily. he was warned he could potentially lose his job for doing that. and those are your headlines. i'll see you back here in a

following not only her convictions, which is protected under the first amendment, but also following the only specific law she had in front of her, which was the kentucky constitution, and the statutes of kentucky, yes, the supreme court made a very divided ruling. but the implementation of that ruling is really farfetched. and i think people are just forgetting that when the founders created our government, checks and balances were there to keep government from doing things rapidly, and in haste. and that's exactly what has happened. and there's great confusion all over the country about how do you implement this very ridiculously unconstitutional decision the court has made. >> and that's why it was so extraordinary that this judge out in kentucky -- in kentucky threw her in jail. >> well, it was what i call a criminalization of christianity. she had strong convictions, this violated her basic conviction.

people say well she should just step aside. people forget she was elected under a kentucky constitutional provision, voted on by 75% of the people, that clearly defined what marriage is. the confusion this has created -- and by the way, steve, she is one of hundreds of officials across the country who refuse to grant licenses, county clerks and others. most states make an accommodation. for some reason the governor of kentucky decided to play hardball with her and let her just, you know, go swinging at the end of the rope of the judge, and the judge, in one of the most amazing overreaches i've seen, actually put her in jail for six days, unbelievable. >> it is unbelievable. governor, what's the message by what she's gone through out in kentucky? what's the message to people of faith regarding this? >> well, i think people need to wake up and realize that the people of faith in this country are genuinely under attack. this is not about giving certain

house or the presidency. they've been so burned that they're willing to overlook a lot of kind of fuzzy areas and donald trump's comments, his old comments, and so what they want to do now is say, okay, what are the two issues we really care about. we care about immigration and we care about these trade deals that frankly sent a lot of our jobs overseas. we haven't seen a lot of benefit to the middle income folks and lower income folks in these trade deals. if he can handle those two issues and do them well, then maybe we can make progress in these areas. but i think a lot of folks are willing to kind of almost sideline some of these other issues to get it right on two big ones. that's where i think people are. i'm not endorsing anybody. i'm analyzing why he can get 20,000 people in a stadium on, you know, in the middle of september. >> on a monday night. >> never happened before. people in the establishment better understand, this is happening because people are hurting. they're not xenophobic, they're not bad people, they're not dumb as some of our conservatives

have intimated. these aren't dumb people. they're american patriots and they want this country turned around. scott walker could try to do this and maybe he could get a huge crowd. ted cruz has a lot of talent. carly does, ben does. but this magic has to be corralled into a series of policies that can clear-cut what the democrats are offering. we need some of this emotion meshed together with clear, and unequivocal policies that revive the american middle class. that's what i think we need. right now, he's the conduit for all of this frustration. and it's those two issues. >> speaking of crowds across the aisle, bernie sanders is bringing in bigger crowds by some accounts than hillary clinton. she's starting to change her m.o. her aides say she's going to bring more humor and heart. we're seeing that just a bit with the latest interview with mario lopez on "extra." >> he would be good but he's not eligible. under the constitution. >> oh. >> he has served his two terms. and i think the argument would be, as vice president, it would

not be possible for him to ever succeed to the position. at least that's what i've been told. so you know it has crossed my mind. >> they're talking about her husband. but we are seeing a lot different side of hillary clinton. but it seems very forced, doesn't it? >> up next, billy bush interviews hillary clinton. i like billy. i like mario lopez. a great guy. she's going to have to soften it, soften the edges. i think ultimately it's a tough -- it's a tough push for hillary at this point. and all these questions looming about the e-mail trail, and the deleting e-mails and servers. that's going to remain. bernie sanders crowds in manassas and liberty university. that inrememberty university speech, i hope the establishment in both parties watch what happened. trump should try to do the same thing, maybe go to the apollo theater. do a speech in enemy territory about bringing back the middle class. walker, cruz, rubio, the rest. go into so-called enemy territory and try to convince people who don't normally like you of your world view.
