confrontation at the reagan library tonight. one candidate told me that the way the host network is setting it up, like a rumble at the library. one of the interesting things to watch will be the dynamic between trump and fiorina. after his recent comments about her face, many think she'll take it directly to the donald. appearing with megyn kelly, she played down the rivalry. >> honestly, donald trump says all kinds of things. i don't really worry about what he says. i'm out there talking with voters every day. this isn't entertainment, although it's very entertaining to many people. these are actually serious times. >> fiorina needs a big night tonight, as does rand paul, lagging in the polls. he's expected to hit trump directly. pressing the theme as he did with megyn kelly last night that trump is not a real conservative.

>> donald trump was for stimulus plan. government stimulus plan. no conservative in america was for it. he was for obama care. no cons tich in america was for that either. the biggest thing i think really shows who donald trump is, when you look at private property rights, the conservative club for growth, the action fund picked up on that. a million dollar ad buy in iowa saying that trump supports eminent dough nan. that he's not a real conservative. they say he's the worst person on the republican side when it comes to economic principles. now it nerterms of of the polls donald trump still out in front. 27%. look at ben carson, hugely, from 6% to 23%. bush, bad news for him. down by half. now 6% from 13. folks? >> john roberts live in simi valley, california, where at 3:04 in the morning.

country. one of them is immigration. there's tremendous crime. there's tremendous drugs pouring across the border. tremendous, beyond going to chicago, going to new york, going to l.a. we have illegal immigrants that are treated better by far than our veterans. people are not silent. they're disgusted with incompetent politicians. they're disgusted with the people that are giving our country . this is a movement, we're going to make our country great again. believe me, we will make our country great again. >> that is rhetoric. we know those are slogans and that's his motivation. what i think he's capable of doing and i fully expect after the detailed expect, i would love to see him with the money in the va system, which i hear is plenty and hear his systems for gutting and weaving out and getting rid of those waiting rooms, the wait times and making it more efficient. a restructuring of the program,

a location, ability to go on their own, all the things discussed and debated here, that has to be the next step. another reason to watch tonight and another reason why a lot has to be done, this is the most telling. "the new york times" did a poland asked people have you made up their mind. 36% said it's too early: there's hope for the bottom half. >> something he did yesterday in his 15-minute speech on the iowa, he prepared a proposed a medicare-like system to expedite vets care. something else he did, he pledged he would never refer to the ayatollah as iran's supreme leader. not going to call him supreme leader. also in attendance were hundreds of veterans for a strong america. that vet group actually endorsed him there on the deck of the iowa. meanwhile, about a block away were some immigrants rights protesters. they were boo'ing, therm trying to shout him down. they booed during the pledge.

most of the lawyers did this a decade ago. this guy is relatively new and has fire in the bell toy get his message out. >> j.d., so everyone can understand the cost of gitmo. the estimated cost of holding them for 2014, $397 million. that's $2.6 million per detai e detainee. here's the big picture. the president wants to move these guys into america where conceivably if we're going to go by our laws, some could be walking free because they don't have the standard evidence needed in criminal cases. >> brian, that's exactly right. out of the 116 detainees, if they're moved to the united states, the judges will have the final say if they're locked up. not president obama. you know what, we don't have a lot of evidence to keep them. a lot of those 116 would walk out of prison, including bin laden's special assistant. there's not a lot of evidence to keep him. that doesn't mean he's not

another search for hikers there. >> a fast moving wildfire destroyed 233 homes near the sierra, nevada, foothills and thousands more at risk at this hour. rain today could give firefighters much-needed help. where is it going to rain? we have the forecast. maria? >> it's kind of like you need the rain across the west. when you get it, unfortunately, sometimes you see scenes with the flash flooding that turns deadly across the utah/arizona border. i want to show where there's active wildfires right now, including parts of california, parts of washington state, oregon, montana, idaho into parts of utah. we do need that rain and we're also going to be getting cooler temperatures. that's welcome news. over the next few days, this weekend, into early next week, we'll see a return to dry conditions out west and also the hot temperatures. that will be a concern yet again for that drought that's ongoing of course for years now across parts of the west, especially in california and now we're going to be looking at some rain.

this isn't going to be drought busting rain but looking at the radar, you can see we have rain moving from california and also parts of the rockies. temperaturewise, ahead of this storm, you're looking at temperatures that are above average in the plains into the 90s right now. across the northeast, you're heating up. temperatures forecast to reach the upper 80s in new york city. by the way, if you live in florida, watch out for heavy downpours. back inside to brian. a football fan and now the police are getting involved because of a brawl. we warned you this might be hard to watch. we'll warn you again. san francisco 49er fans are caught on camera beating a man in a minnesota vikings jersey after they played outside monday night's game in california. one person who posted the video said it started when the vikings fan started talking smack. you don't beat him up. you talk back. security intervened ande fight. police are investigating. a blind football player is getting a shot of a lifetime.

discovery potentially life saving and are calling for a change in blood pressure guidelines. dr. marc siegel of the medical "a" team is joining us right now. so there's this new study out that gives you a better number at what the optimal blood pressure should be, and it's a lot lower than what we used to think. >> this is a life saving study. i come on all the time here, steve, talking about studies. this is one of the most powerful ones i've ever seen. why? because we thought 140 systolic was okay for your higher number. what is systolic? blood pressure occurs when your heart sends a stream of blood out into your arteries. when it's pumping. the heart pumps, and blood shoots out of your arteries. when the heart is resting, in between pumps, that's the lower number. so the higher number is when it's pumping. the lower number is when it's resting. and we thought 140 was okay. it turns out in a high risk group that they looked at of over 9,000 people, over three years, they found that you got to get it as low as 120. and you know what? the results were so dramatic,

who failed to ever pass the exam will now be able to receive diplomas. david banks is the president and ceo of the eagle academy foundation which employs at-risk inner city young men to become academic achievers. so david, i guess this is totally the antithesis of what you do. >> absolutely. i mean we provide our young men with a rigorous curriculum, and making sure that we prepare them to pass the exam, pass their courses, and be prepared to move on to a great career. >> and in california, they basically say if you can understand eighth grade level work, and get 55 or over, you'll get your diploma. but these kids have had it tough already, why not make it a little easier for them. what's your thinking? >> i think the problem in california that i'm seeing is the fact that they want to suspend the exit exam. they think that the exam really doesn't align with the new common core. and that's fine. but to retro actively allow the students who have already gone through their high school experience, who failed the test, to just say we're going to wave

the test, the test doesn't mean anything, that seems a little outrageous. >> what's your graduation rate? >> over 85%. >> okay. so your theory, your theory on graduation is, okay, let's have a way to help these kids, is to demand more of these kids. >> absolutely. when we bring our students to school on saturdays, they've got to do an additional two to three hours a day after the school day. we're a network of traditional public schools. but you've got to have a rigorous coursework and establish really high standards. i believe in that. >> what do you think of this level of work and some of the standard exit exam questions? for example 60 miles per hour is the same rate as which of the following. "a," one mile per minute. "b," one mile per second. or "c," six miles per minute. or "d," 360 miles per second. does that seem like 12th grade level to you? >> no. that's absolutely not 12th grade. in some ways you don't have to go to school to figure that out. a mile per minute. >> of course "a." meanwhile here's another example of another question which i didn't memorize.

heroin has been -- is very lucrative, there is ample supply of heroin so it's very cheap. and a lot of the rural areas have gone in to using heroin. they were at one time using vicodin and oxycodone but because that's become more expensive, heroin has actually become cheaper. the question is, is how come there is so much heroin coming into the united states. the numbers will prove that the border is not secure for this to occur. >> so are people listening right now say another example, another interview where people talk about drug mules, and drug users, and drug suppliers, crossing the southern border. but you're overgeneralizing. what's your answer to people who think you're overgeneralizing or stereotyping? >> they decent know what's really going on on the border because they're listening to false facts, instead of the people on the ground, the boots in the field, that are addressing this problem on an everyday basis. >> does washington know --

you almost had to shoot him. he tried to stab you in the head. fast forward to now, this picture with the two of you hugging explain this because it has over 80,000 likes -- i'm sorry 225 likes, 88,000 shares on facebook. what's going on here in this photo? >> i've actually, i kept up with his family. they still live in the apartment complex. they've kept up with the family while he was locked up. and, i thought i saw him last tuesday night walking out of his apartment. i wasn't sure. then i saw his girlfriend come out. i said hey was that cory? she said yeah. i asked how long he was going to be gone for. she said he just went to mcdonald's. so i hung out and i waited for him, and we talked, you know, probably 15, 20 minutes or so. caught up. i learned that we actually went to high school together. oddly enough. and you know, we just put it behind us, you know, it really is -- it's not worth the energy to stay mad you know. i found that he's changed his life.

football is getting pretty ugly this season. the shocking moment a football helmet is turned into a weapon at a high school game. watch this. you can see as that guy picks the helmet off the other kid and bashes him in the head with it. this happened in lyndon, new jersey. the player who was attacked needed ten stitches. the player who ripped off the helmet was only flagged for a personal foul. police are now looking into that incident and that player may face charges. so we'll watch that story going forward. two would-be robbers caught on camera. the owner watching this whole thing unfold live on his phone. he was using a security app called canary. that monitored his apartment. the men rushed -- the man rushed home while he was watching that live feed. the burglars were then scared off by a neighbor. police are now using the images to try to hunt down those would-be robbers.

he was escorted out of school in handcuffs. a texas ninth grader arrested after bringing a homemade clock to school. the reason? he's accused of making a fake bomb. 14-year-old ahmed mohammed built the clock over the weekend to show his engineering teacher. but not everybody was impressed. at least three teachers thought it was a bomb and they called police. mohammed has not been charged. his family says they believe he was targeted because he's a muslim. a high speed race through a quiet beverly hills neighborhood causing a whole lot of outrage because the drivers may actually get away with it. watch this. wow well that ferrari. and then a porsche. they were caught on camera speeding down the street. both cars registered not in the united states. but in qatar. the speeding doesn't stop until the ferrari eventually starts to smoke. the driver denied it all to the

rights. also say that jeb bush and ben carson have put forward very good plans to reform the v.a. they aren't perfect. they still need to flesh out some details but i have to give them credit for doing that. >> a lot of candidates talk about stuff but they haven't put out any plans with specifics which is what you want to see. kieron who do you like best for commander in chief? >> cari fiorina. she has big-time executive experience. she was the ceo of hewlett-packard she dragged that 20th century company into the 21st century. which is exactly what has to be done with the v.a. it's an old model that needs to be modernized. she's the exact person to do that. she also has intelligence experience and i commander in chief needs intelligence experience. she served as the chairman of the cia's external advisory board which is a great piece of experience that will serve her well and no one is tougher on iran than carly fiorina. and let's face it the iranians killed 500 of our brothers and sisters in iraq and afghanistan and that's something that needs to be dealt with. and carly fiorina when you listen to her talk very
