several recent polls have shown hillary clinton losing ground with votesers in early voting states. but a new poll highlights her problem with a key voting group and that's women. according to the poll, clinton's support among women in her own party has dropped about 30 points since the summer started. meanwhile carly fiorina is hoping her debate performance this week whether help her gain momentum with female voters. so here now for a fair and balanced debate, a republican strategist who works for the young american found daks aatio former president of the young democrats of america. thanks for joining us. emily, i want to start with you. is car ly gaining with women an why? >> yeah, absolutely. i think women are looking for authentic candidates specifically conservative women.
11:10 am

many catholics and noncatholic as like. so why is he so popular in karl anderson has met with the pope several times and he joins us now. thank you so much. we know the pope is going to be arriving in cuba today. we've heard him talk in the past about scrapping the >>i >> scrapping the regime there. do you think he'll touch on politics during the trip? >> i think he will be in the approach to cuba. the statement he made before he left to the cuban people was very pastoral and i think he sees this as an opportunity for the church to grow and for the people of cuba to strengthen their faith. that will have fundamental f democracization. >> you haven't met but this is

the first visit to the u.s. there are a lot of firsts that are happening next week. i want you to tell me about what we can expect to see from him. >> i think one thing we'll expect is the unexpected. the pope is hard to put in a particular category. he goes across categories. i think he'll try to say something that all americans will take to heart. to try to put him in a political category isn't going to work this pope. and so politicians shouldn't try to do that. i think one of the important things is, of course, the first time the pope will address congress. it will be the first time that the pope will meet privately or with the speaker of the house. he'll meet with the president. but he'll meet with the republican leader in the congress, in a private meeting. that will be very important and historic as well. >> you mentioned we can't expect him necessarily to be a politician and we don't expect that of him. but he has weighed in on a number of issues that can be divisive.

and he is addressing congress, which we haven't seen. is it really possible for him to stay away from those hot bed topics that some catholics feel very passionate about? >> i think he'll address those certainly, and i think he should look at the message from the standpoint of all the cities and speeches he's going to be visiting. so part of the message will be in congress, at the white house, in philadelphia, families. in new york, at the united nations. i think we have to look at the visit as a whole and so, this one slice of the pie won't tell us the entire message. >> and you talked a lot about him working to grow the catholic church. he's done that by reaching out to people in the transgender community and he's also made that new rule about marriage annulment. what else can we expect from him while he's here to really grow the catholic church? >> well, i think catholics are very excited about this pope because, one, he's joyful. he has the joy of the gospel.

secondly, he's open. he's authentic. he has concern for the poor. he talks about mercy and compassion. and inclusion and being open to everybody. and so these are very important messages. they're very essential christian messages. i think when we look at those values he's talking about, people say, how about a little bit more of that in my life? how about a little bit more mercy and compassion and charity? >> we know you've met with him before but getting a glimpse of him is exciting. thank you so much for joining us and we look forward to seeing him next week. >> thanks very much. >> thank you. the keg has been tapped and the beer tapped is flowing. oktoberfest is officially begun. we're going to tell you how jere germany kicked off its famous party. hello, everybody. i'm uma pemmaraju.
