day and weekend and we have watched it unfold. and the festival of families is underway. some of the biggest acts in the world are here to entertain the masses. 500000 people expected in the benjamin franklin parkway. we can show you what is a sea of smiling faces and people holding their nation's banners and excitedly waiting for the pope to take the motorcade and can come around in the papal parade. and expected to go through the crowd in the fiat and transfer in the pope mobile and deputy up and down and back up to the stage. this man has a lot of energy. talk about a man on a mission. we have seen him do it all day long and spreading the message

stef no is here with me. she has spina bifida. and she has a rare condition and she joins me here in the studio. stephanie it is great to meety you. when i saw the coverage of saint patrick's cathedral will and he stopped and zeroed in on you. what an emotional moment. it was an emotional will moment. what was it like? >> it was so amazing. he came down the aisle and i started crying and i was in tears. i just couldn't believe it. it felt like he was right there with me. and all of those people clapping and clearing, it was just amazing. i was so blessed. >> it was incredible to see the pope on the left side of the

screen going into the parade and we are seeing movement and it begins with the emergency vehicles and you will see the pope entering the p raid. and they are standing poi and catching and stephanie, you were touched in a way that few kids were touched. you were blessed by the pope and this is not the first time you have met the pope. it is one thing to meet one in a life time. you have met two. >> i actually pope benedict in 208. and he originally blessed me for my back surgery and it was a difficult time in my life, after that i was so sick. and i wont breath. i was on a breathing tube for six months and i was prone on my

he right now, pope francis is going around logan's circle and making his way in city hall. there are 18000 people that signed up for that. most attended of the eight world meetings and that is doubled registration than in miowa lan. and there are more than 100 countries and the highest number of reg strants in united states, canada and mexico and pakistan and vietnam. this is incredible. last time this event happen was in 1994. saint john paul ii celebrated them. and this is one in the united states that no one will forget. they had to get tickets in order to mote. and all of the people on on the parkway are getting a free show

stephanie as the holy father walked down the aisle. i knew he would go over to her, he has a passion for special needs and handicapped which were and people. he's done this reportedly throughout his life and for parents and grand parents like me who have a child that is special needs, you can't imagine the overwhelming feeling of joy and pride in seeing that when the holy father goes out of his way to bless a child like that. i don't like to say this. but in society today, we don't show the level of respect for parents of special needs children that we should. as a matter of fact, i don't think we do the necessary medical research to help find

cures for problems like stephanie and my grandson who was born with a rare neurological disease. and when you see pope francis go over to her and greet the kids with down syndrome, it sends an extraordinary message. you can go to the white house and united nation and united states capitol, but my impression of all of the things that the holy father has deputy in the trip to the the united states, those kind gestures like he showed to stephanie and those children with down syndrome and other people that he reached out to with disabilities and handicaps that's what the character of pope francis is really about.

a responsibility morally to come to the united states and participate in the world conference of families. i talked to the person who headed it up in the vatican. a great friend mine, he and i worked together. he was in rome when i was a united states ambassador. he is a social justice profit. he put it together. and he was so proud and worked so hard to make it happen. this is a high priority for the holy father. and yes, of course, immigration and persecution of the christians and catholics is high on the agenda, but so are the families. the family when you think about it is the foundation of society. and if the family is in disarray

a nigerian family there addressing the pope. and boy, what a whirlwind day it has been for pope francis. the pontiff woke up in new york, but didn't stay long, departing for philadelphia around 8:30 this morning. the pope caught on camera hanging out in the cockpit during the flight. and then, there he goes, it's off to the cathedral basilica of saints peter and paul where he celebrated mass with oh, about 1,600 people. then after that the pope traveled to a seminary to greet about 100 men training to enter the priesthood. his holiness joined the group in singing "happy birthday" to archbishop charles chaput, then he moved on to philadelphia's

independence mall, delivering a speech on religious freedom and immigration at independence hall, the birthplace of this nation and modern democracy. and so it continues. we expected that the pope would be speaking some time about, oh, i don't know, an hour ago, and this performance is not over. i mean, the performances are many yet to come. jonathan, father morris, you know, you just talk about how busy this guy has been. i just went through this list of all the events. and let's not forget, this wasn't just a trip to the united states. right before this, he was in cuba and did a lot there. he certainly is leaving an impactful message to people around the world. what would you hope would be the greatest message that he leaves behind him when he heads back? >> just look at him. he's listening. that's hard for any of us at any time. he's doing that after that grueling schedule that you just said.

us, we only knew one grandparent. and i wonder, in what ways would life have been different if we had the older generation to help us grow up. rudy and i were blessed to become parents. to have the opportunity to guide our children and now our grandchildren, and even when it is a challenging as parents, as grandparents, we acquire a great many responsibilities, most welcome, some not. but one aspect we feel very strongly about is as grandparents, we can help support parents by countering some of the destructive

influences out in society. we can help teach the next generation what truly matters. our children were raised on or near native american reservations in arizona, which is a very different way and form than the way rudy and i grew up. among many native peoples, the word "grandfather" is often used in starting prayers. "grandfather" used in an exalted manner, chief, blessed, hallowed, supreme. that places him in a position of extreme importance in the minds of his people, who seek his

wisdom, so that they may live in peace and harmony with all who live on mother earth. the wisdom of grandparents can help to minimize in the lives of the young the many struggles that they have experienced. parents and grandparents must continually work hard to instill faith in their young family members. we try to be a good role model and teach object the importance of faith and how to help, cultivate, believe in our lord, jesus christ, guiding family members towards the great love of god. and how to grow in relationships with him. we try to help bring peace and harmony within our family. it is not as easy as it may
