jeb bush is hitting back hard at media after a reporter asked him to respond to the college massacre in oregon prompting president obama to renew the call for tighter gun control. here is the fuller context of what the former florida governor said and some are seizing on two words. >> it is very sad to see but i resist the notion and i had this challenge as governor. look, stuff were whats. this is always a crisis. the impulse is to do something and it is not necessary lit right thing. >> the president goes all in on gun safety for the second time in two days as jeb bush shrugs his shoulders. >> bush told us what he thinks this is the price of doing business, stuff happens, get used to it. >> the bush campaign is saying it is sad and beyond craven that

liberal democrats would dishonestly take governor bush's comments out of context. joining us is chris stirewalt and carol lee white house corporate for the "wall street journal", and joe trippi democratic strategist and fox news contributor. chris, is jeb bush right? this was a media distortion? >> yes and no. taken in a larger context, yes, and there were other comments outside of what we heard where he is being sympathetic and it was a mistake. >> i much ad it five times but it comes off as tone deaf. >> this is an issue for bush that is not just a problem for potential general election but in the primary because republicans are concerned about the persecution of christians. that is attached to this and the idea of martyrdom it is significant. bush should have been kinder.

congress among republicans. >> little support and the white house knew that and they knew they would not win on that. >> but what he was looking to do was specific, go after the assad regime's chemical weapons not try to change the civil war through airstrikes but the dynamics have shifted. we have islamic state taking over vast parts of syria, and russia now is moving in, there is failure of different aspects of the administration's strategy happening now around the same time. the resolution coverage has been consistent. the narrative is the president is being dragged into something he reluctantly doesn't want to do. you are seeing that continue. >> i don't see liberal commentators, joe, defending president obama. i see them criticizing the residence or changing the subject to bush's invasion of

and the shooter has not been identified, you do it then ... it is causing a problem. >> it is gross. here is the larger problem. nothing the president is proposing would have prevented this. the coverage and the discussion of all of this suggests that somehow this is is a bill or legislation that exists that the republicans have said we will not pass this legislation that would address this or would address sandy hook. the mistake the president makes and the press continues to make is to propose things that are related to guns and the regulation of them but not to the problem at hand and they are surprised when people say, no, why would we do that? >> there is no magic bullet. the reason for media fatigue is the president proposing action on background checks on limits on magazine ammunition yet everyone knows nothing will happen because congress is
