back behind the cameras super river behind us and charleston harbor. obviously with the intense moisture in some parts of the area they have gotten over 2 feet of rain over the last several days. too much for this city to handle. charleston is known as low country, and because of that, a lot of the water even from um north has funneled down this way. that is actually a major concern. you guys have probably seen the pictures in columbia, south carolina which is north of here. there is a fear in charleston now that that water will make its way back down and there will be more flash floods and more concerns about the potentially deadly danger. guys. >> thank you, joel. >> joel waldman in charleston, south carolina. a little girl missing for days miraculously found alive in ohio. >> hi, baby. hi, baby.

>> good morning to you and your family. if you are just waking up, welcome to "fox and friend first. >> we begin with devastating news. the 1,000 year flood, south carolina under water as relentless rains brings shoulder high water in some areas. >> residents not expected to see relief any time soon. 10 counties declaring states of emergency aenacting curfews and closing stretches of roads and highways. maria molina is life for us in one of the hardest hit areas. florence is between columbia and myrtle beach. we are in the milled of the state. the interstate was closed down

because of how bad the flash flooding got out here across the region. we have seen 12 inches of rain many seeing 24 inches of rain. truly a historic life threatening event out here. the water out there overwhelmed that lake a lot of it flowing down and rushing toward forest lake. behind me used to be a bridge. you can't see it any more because the water is so high entering homes and structures and cars submerged in water. another concern, too, is that we could see gusty winds. because the ground is so sat vated from recent days of heavy rain some of the trees have come down and power lines coming down. that will be part of the story that will continue to track the rain still coming down quite heavy in florence, south carolina as a band of continues to impact south carolina.

conditions should improve rain wise but 6 inches of rain will still be possible along coastal areas of south carolina. the band continues to pivot across the state. this is all due to a lot of tropical moisture from the atlantic coming in and interacting with an upper-level low. you have the perfect weather setup to see catastrophic floods over south carolina. we mentioned rain still coming down and gusting winds will be another concern. let's head over to you in new york. >> i was born right there in florence, south carolina so our prayers are with all of the folks. that catastrophic rainfall killing at least five people he across the state. officials urging people stay inside if you are not in danger of flooding as the national guard moves in. jonathan joins us live in columbia. >> good morning to you. standing on the banks you can

see the swool encreek raging over the bridge. the waters were over top of the bridge. you can see the toppled guardrails the flood waters also damaged multiple businesses nearby. the columbia fire department strung lines across flooded roads to allow teams to reach people who had become trapped in their vehicle. statewide hundreds of vehicles had to be rescued from cars. officials urged people to stay at home if at all possible. the flood waters had been affecting communities of all sizes in south carolina. this is the team in a small community 20 miles northwest of charleston weather crossing a portion of 78 near highway 26. here's the governor.

life jackets and an oil sheen on the water. they cannot confirm if the debris is from the cargo ship. >> the coast guard has been extremely focused on deploying as many as possible. th this includes a number of aircraft, water craft. >> it was sailing to puerto rico when it slammed into the bahamas. they sent a distress symbol. rescuers say there's a chance they escaped in the ship's boats the life boats. their families are trying to stay positive. >> the blame is on the hurricane not the captain. they are working on the crew. >> it is so support i have to be with people that are going through what we are.

charleston as you can see. i don't have my hood on. the rain has stopped now. it is expected to pick up sporadically through out the day today. local forecasters are saying things should dry outcome tuesday. the big deal you see the images two-miles north of here in columbia, south carolina. charleston is considered low country. the fear is there will be runoff from the rivers up there that make their way back down here. charleston is not out of the woods yet. cars making their way through the flooded streets. in charleston it is a main thoroughfare which is why you will see traffic. back over here this is a residential neighborhood. it is unclear if there is even power on this street or some of these houses are using generators. a lot of people evacuated. schools are closed and there's curfews in place which really is astonishing, heather and ainsley, is that just yesterday, in just that 24-hour period charleston received more rain

college students in philadelphia. a mysterious message online threatens a campus attack today. steve keel i is live from philadelphia with more. good morning, steve. >> reporter: one positive sign that the school kids around philly are kind tough and take this seriously, they're not going to stay in today. this nearly 8 hours before the threat said to be carried out. we're seeing kids up and out early around the campuses of penn and drexel. we're seeing more police and security but more concern for the college crowd in philadelphia. just a few days after the oregon college shooting, local universities and colleges sut out mass alerts passing on the notice that federal investigators learned of a threat on social media said to be carried out at a campus near philadelphia at 2:00 p.m. today. no specifics beyond the time and the phrase near philadelphia
