israeli soldier who shot and killed her attacker. in another hebron attacker, a soldier was stabbed. his attacker taken into custody. no word on both their conditions. in jerusalem, two attempted stabbings, one which which a palestinian tried to stab a soldier before they were shot and killed. they are happening with such frequency, raising concerns that today could be a prelude to even more violence to come this coming week. and there was more violence, as mentioned today, in ramallah. police fired back with tear gas and rubber bullets. there's been fight anything hebron and bethlehem. we saw it up close yesterday. this as the political distention between israeli and palestinian leaders continues.

israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is expected to meet with secretary of state john kerry this coming week in europe to talk about ways to quell the violence. in a phone call this week, kelly, secretary of state kerry warned palestinian authority president mahmoud abbas about inciting more violence. abbas reportedly told secretary of state kerry that he would try to quell and then reduce the overall tension. whether president abbas will be involved in the discussions is unclear. at this point, kelly, it seems very unlikely. >> john huddy reporting live from jerusalem. a lot of people are hoping they will stop the violence soon. thank you. mexican officials say they may be closing in on escaped mexican drug lord el chapo. he may have injured his face and leg escaping the mountains where

what is bernie doing? according to the polls, hillary won. however, in social media circles, bernie is on top. >> he is appealing to people on social media, millennials. and someone who said i'm not going to take your money because you're not going to have access to me for money. this guy wanted a meeting with bernie in return for the money. he would be renouncing the very campaign he is running. >> donald trump said the same thing. i don't want your money. >> he is taking it now. >> he won't turn down money that people send in. but his son said he should have secret service protection. now he wants tax payer money to pray for protection. look, i think when you get to a point when you're the nominee then, yes, of course. at this stage, it comes down to starting in december and january, people will be

troops in afghanistan into 2017. far past the 2016 withdrawal date the administration had initially set. but it is still only half the number of troops recommended by military leaders. major general bob scales is retired general and fox news analyst. general, always good to see you. glad you're with us to share your perspective. here we are 15 years at war in afghanistan. >> yeah. >> we are a war-weary nation. but we must exit afghanistan the right way. so my question is, is the president's decision to keep 5,500 american forces in afghanistan until 2017 the right course of action to end this war responsibly? >> well, kelly, i don't think he had any choice. the administration did the numbers. and they determined a small cost of keeping soldiers longer in afghanistan is worth the risk of leaving afghanistan too soon, as
1:33 pm
they learned in 2012. there are two other key issues. number one is the administration's view of the terrible performance of the afghans in kunduz city last month. the second thing is the sudden resurgence about nine months ago of isis, of all people, in afghanistan. intelligence suggest they are now presence in large numbers in seven provinces, one next to the capital city of kabul. all of these factors worked together, in my opinion, to induce the president to make the right decision. the real question is 5,500 enough. right now i think most military people say it is probably enough to prevent the collapse of afghanistan but not enough to make serious progress and improve the quality of the afghan early, kelly. >> you raise a point. that goes to my next question. he says he has concern about the
1:34 pm
number of troops and you have the concerns about the number of troops being sufficient to carrying out the task. >> right. >> you mentioned isis coming in. it is almost as if isis is trying to taunt the united states. i don't know if anyone has pointed that out. it is almost as though they are saying, i dare you. >> that is very, very interesting. because remember the long arm of isis begins in libya, swings all the way across the middle east, egypt, across syria, iraq, and now into afghanistan. and isis is there not because there's some new terrorist organization. they are there because they are bringing money. this is a terribly poor country, afghanistan. and afghanistan is walking in paying $500, $600, $700 per recruit to join isis. the second thing is they are terribly, terribly brutal. the taliban is nothing compared to what isis is doing in afghanistan.
1:35 pm
and the american command is worried that the long arm of isis will eventually spread into the capital city and break this very, very fragile military that the afghans have. >> general, i have to ask this question. how the u.s. is war weary at the top of this, how does this nation, how does it affect our support level of the troops who are in harm's way and the families that are making the sacrifice as well? >> well, first of all, i don't think america is weary of war. i think america is weary of watching war on television. less than one half of one percent is actually getting shot at. one thing to me that is sort of suggestive that the american people will support our effort in afghanistan is the affection that the american people have for their soldiers.
1:36 pm
that hasn't diminished in 13 years. that is encouraging for me. i come from the vietnam generation. we had to change out of your to clothes. i'm not sure, kelly, they are with the president's policy over the long time. >> general, always good to hear from you. &and to the men and women serve anything harm's way, our deepest gratitude. >> thank you, kelly. us airways making its final flight before merging with american airlines. that historic flight arriving in philadelphia this morning. the airlines are wrapping up the merger this weekend after almost two years of planning, creating the biggest domestic carrier in the country. brian yennis has all the details. hi, bryan. >> reporter: the last merge he was with continental and united.

bound to president obama's instinct for doing the wrong thing. to summarize, in 2009, the taliban took private bergdahl prisoner after he walked away from his post one night. last spring five years later, president obama announced his release in exchange for five high-ranking terrorists at guantanamo bay. within days, mr. obama presented bergdahl as a hero. his national security advisor, susan rice, said he served with honor and distinction. in a rose garden photo op, the president welcomed bergdahl's parents and looked on as beau's heavily bearded father said a prayer in arabic. it was all too strange. it signaled the start of a campaign to exonerate a man who had deserted his platoon. the army charged bergdahl with
