o'clock and at 5 o'clock p.m. eastern with i'm patty ann brown and this is the fox report. the war of words between two republican candidates, donald trump and jeb bush, escalating on the sunday talk shows. trump again going after jeb for defending his brother, former president george w bush and his handling of the 9/11 terror attacks. listen. >> look, look. jeb said we were safe with my brother. we were safe. the world trade center just fell down. i'm not plaming anybody.

>> bush also accusing truch of treating his campaign like a reality show. >> mr. trump talks about things as though he's still on the apprentice. literally talking about syria saying isis should take out asad and then russia should take out isis. this is just another example of the lack of seriousness. >> bush adding a prediction that despite trump's lead in the polls, his support will eventually fate. how are republicans reacting? >> well, at the moment, some of them are pretty busy. six are focusing on a strong voter group as they gather for presidential forum in plano, texas. they're talking christian values and religious freedom.

he was a little less eager to pass judgment on the front runner's intentions. while trump may not be in texas today he did defend himself on the air waves. >> i don't want jeb bush to say my brother can't be safe because september 11 was one of the worst days in the history of this country. i'm not thin skinned. if i did something wrong and you said i did something wrong, i can handle that and if the press is bad, okay. it's when people hit me when i didn't do anything wrong. then it's not a question of thin skin. i will fight back. >> and fighting back is something jeb bush is doing. his campaign releasing a two minute ad, blasting the billionaire's ability to be commander in chief. the piece has blurbs pointing to gaps. he's proud of his brother's leadership as president.

>> my brother responded to a crisis and he did it as you hope a president would do. united the country, organized our country and kept us safe. >> bush went on to say that trump is an actor playing the role of candidate for president. >> what reaction are we hearing on the democratic side? >> we're hearing from hillary clinton criticizing her republican counter part, donald trump. said he's an oversized personality, overstepping any appropriate boundaries. >> i'm going to continue to criticize him for going beyond the bonds of what is appropriate. >> that being said, bernie sanders is in -- he is staying away from personal attacks. he took on a topic saying that it needed to be expanded.

>> we will have to see. live in washington. thank you. danld trump and hillary clinton have at least two things in common. both lead in the polls and have high negative numbers in the polls. could we wind up with a trump clinton match-up. there is more on the 2016 president of the united states. >> investigating the 2012 benghazi attacks. and new fire from democrats and some republicans who argue the investigation is unfairly targeting the former secretary of state. he says he's just trying to get to the facts behind an attack that left four americans dead.

>> three days ago the benghazi committee received chris steven and this morning on "face the nation," congressman tray goudy reiterated. she is just one part of this investigation. gowdy said the ambassador's e-mails are much more interesting to him than clintons. >> while violence was going up in libya, why was our security profile going down? it wasn't even staying the same. it was going down. i want to know why certain things made it to our inbox but pleadings that you put in place for more security never bothered to make it to your inbox. i think that's a fair question.

political pressures have steered the investigation far off course. >> i think it's a sad day for all of us because we made a commitment to the families. the families came in with tears in their eyes and said please don't make this a political football. that's exactly what happened. >> it's not clear if we will hear anything new from hillary clinton, that appearance certainly could end up being the most important day of her presidential campaign. >> thank you. a major announcement from the pentagon today. u.s. military officials confirming that a coalition air strike in northwest syria has killed a top ranking al qaeda commander. the pentagon says a saudi national died in the air strike along with two other fighters. dod officials say he funneled money and fighters for the terror group.

right now israeli police are investigating a deadly shooting and stabbing spree. it marks just the latest incident in what's been a month's long outburst of violence in the west bank. the israeli government is responding with new security measures including the building of a barrier in eastern jerusalem. connor powell has the latest from our mideast newsroom. >> reporter: the bloodshed showing no signs of letting up here. at least one israeli is dead and more than a dozen injured after one attacker opened fire in the central bus station sunday night. police killing the assailant but also shooting a man from the african country of air tray ya who was mistaken for an attacker. introducing a series of new

that was amateur cell phone footage. you can hear the shots killing one man and injuring five others. 20,000 people said to be standing shoulder to shoulder in costume, some carrying fake weapons. another captured hundreds running for their lives running from the gunshots. >> we saw one person laying on the ground. >> we had probably eight or ten people that we let come in the barber shop. there was massive people trying to get in for cover. it was very scary. >> the fort myers police are

asking anybody with any video to contact them immediately. >> do we know anything more about the victims? >> yes, the victim is a 20-year-old football player at a junior college in miami. he consistently went to church, played the drugs and had no issues with gangs or drugs. the organizers are deeply saddened saying we take precautions in hiring security and police officers for our annual event. our prayers go out. again. the suspect remains at large. that was a charity event. >> so sad. brian, thank you so much. >> no problem. thank you. a tragic car accident kills four people in arizona. an suv plowed into a lake. three children were in the car along with their parents. two of the kids were killed. a 2-year-old boy is in critical

that we know of. the first that happened yesterday happened on the east side of awau hue. a 44-year-old man was about 100 yards from shore. two nearby kayakers rushed over to help him. one used a jump rope as a turnaquette. authorities saying he is in serious condition. >> they were hanging on by threads just above ankles. >> the second attack happened last night in the water off wi key key beach. a man in his early 30s was foot and he's in serious condition. surfers are still on high alert.

they come after he lost most of his leg after surfing on the north shore of awahu. >> i felt like a truck ran into me and kind of took me a second to realize what was going on. he kind of dragged me underwater. >> cook says that after all of it he plans to still surf one day with the help of a prosthetic leg. >> wow. i'm not sure i would do that. nationwide, how many shark bites have we seen this year? >> there's been a lot in the headlines. there's been 52 so far this year and that's one away from the five-year high that we saw in 2012 when we had 53 and it's only october here. that's for the one confirmed attack that we had yesterday. we're told that was a tiger shark, which experts call the

what you just showed from donald trump on the republican side. negative ratings of close to 60% going into the general election. >> very strange indeed. another national poll puts it in. and marco rubio in second place. to trump carson rubio and cruz. >> trump is still clearly the front runner and we need to discuss why he is the front runner. like four months ago, a huge majority of republicans that's a large portion.

number one, so honest that he was willing to st-- does trump there and work on words to try to shade what he says. it's refreshing. the only issue, will it wear off? high of appeal. >> all right. let's take a look at the polls. followed by carson and then rubio and fiorina. the same top four a different

order. and the same top four in nevada according to a cnn pole. do we have pat? what's your take on this? >> well, i think it shows that trump is further ahead in these than he is nationally. you know, the press has been trying to bury him all along. and just like they, you know, want to rest recolleurrect hill they can't stand not being able to do that. there's a real chance that we have to really consider that he will be the nominee for the republicans and she's going to be the nominee for the democrats and this creates quite an interesting situation. both have trust worthy problems although hers are much worse. as doug said they both have high negatives and they both are considered not caring about

people like individual voters and yet they are both seen as strong leaders. but, the advantage trump has over her is he is the outsider. >> and pat, let me just say about that, because i raise this a lot everywhere i go. and people say there's no room here for another outside r why would we not suspect that more odd things are yet to happen as we heat up? i remind people, ross perot did not start the larry king weekly escapade until february of 1992. by june he's in first place. so that was 25 years ago when the country was trampled. >> that was a period as john

republican national committee with a -- an overwhelming focus on trying to, as they admitted, drive down my poll numbers. >> all right. john, as mentioned, the house select committee is headed by trey gowdy of south carolina and he says look, this is about finding the facts. clinton was the secretary of state at the time so of course there's a focus on her. doug, what about it? >> this is an opening that hillary clinton desperately needed because there are a lot of questions that the american people and the committee want answered. what did the state department kn know? what did she know? how did she react? how did she deal with the information? those are still questions that despite all the hearings that have gone on remain yet to be fully answered. and i say that not as a partisan democrat because i am supporting and would like to see hillary clinton elected but i say that as an analyst trying to be fair.

there are questions about her e-mails which will come up in the context of libya. >> mrs. clinton keeps mentioning there were several other investigations. there were seven eyewitnesss who were never questioned by any of these other investigations. pat, do we know all we need to know about the attacks that killed these four americans? >> no we

then you had several incompetent house hearings including one by hall richards whose wife was a consultant on the security which found that nothing went wrong. who came up? and she was the architect of the cover-up story about the fake video that is the greatest lie in the history of american foreign policy. now, somebody needs to answer that question.

when will republicans shoot their own wounded snp conservative republicans shoot their own in the back. >> we're going to have to take a break. a lot more to come. political outsiders seem to be topping the latest polls. how long can they hold on and now that the democrats have had their first debate, our political when i went on to ancestry, i just put in the name of my parents and my grandparents. and as soon as i did that, literally it was like you're getting 7, 9, 10, 15 leaves that are just popping up all over the place. yeah, it was amazing. just with a little bit of information, you can take leaps and bounds. it's an awesome experience.

as the political world waits with baited breath and with the first democratic debate now in the rear view mirror, what does it mean for hillary clinton? our political insiders are back. john, your reaction to the debate. i know you feel they did not talk about the fbi investigation of hillary clinton.

>> i think that hillary clinton, when she puts her head down on a pillow at night. they're not a possible nominee. he didn't think there was anything there in the e-mails and this has angered the fbi. they're professionals. they're doing their job. what we are wondering, pat, doug, and i is, is politics going to come in above the fbi at the justice department and the white house to stifle a legitimate investigation? >> it's a good question.

is biden in the mix here? >> i still think he's in the mix. i don't understand all of this. there are no roadways anywhere. i'm so tire ed d.

>> it was, she won the debate. didn't change the race at all. didn't eliminate. it was very disappointing. i was hoping that jim would speak for people like myself who are upset and who was a fool on the air. >> we're running out of time. >> pat, let me get in here if i can. this was a chance for bernie sanders to breakthrough and he didn't. she was able to say on the e-mails she was transparent without anyone questioning her. she was able to say that benghazi was a republican arm of

the national committee. that was totally political. she's gotten a huge bump out of this. will biden get in? his opening has gotten much more narrow, his road to the nomination much more difficult. i think it's less likely today that it gets in today than it was a week ago. >> we have to take a break here. we have more coming up. the u.s. facing a number of challenges.

russia's growing military role is posing new challenges.

russia's air strikes in syria increasingly targeting u.s. backed rebels there. now a majority of americans believe our national security interests are at stake. doug and john, doug, what needs to happen in syria now? >> well, we need to much more effectively support the anti-assad rebels and we need to say you cannot operate with impunity in syria and indeed in the middle east because candidly, patti ann, we're losing. with economists had a cover of the russian and chinese leades s and that pretty accurately sums up what's happening.

we are in bad shape globally. >> those men you mentioned, they have measured obama and they see him as basically a piece of tissue paper in the oval office that they can just march right through. i hate to say it. it's too late. >> the only thing that obama has done is said pretty please. >> the same fox news poll shows only 29% of americans agree with president obama that russia is weak and desperate but 52% of americans believe that president obama is weak and indecisive. go for it.

the fantasy crap that is out in the white house and main street media, and let me just say, every time he's confronted by evil, he waves his white flag. >> and let me say, the more it deteriorates, the more it will help a trump-like candidate. the worse the mess is the worse they say i can't handle it. trump is mr. clean-up because he's independent and i solve every problem and i speak clearly. this helps him politically. >> and i'm tough.
