12:00 pm
before taking a nap high up in the branches in this public park. now, they're trying to get him or her down. thank you for your part of "the real story." have a great monday. here's shep. >> donald trump is blasting the media coverage of polls that show him trailing, ben carson in iowa. breaking news on the campaign trail. new numbers out today. we have them, and trump will probably not like them any better. also, why he is making fun of his rival, jeb bush, for, as trump put it, meeting with mommy and daddy. home viewers, ever get a small loan from your parents? when times are tough. like a million dollars? and the saudi prince who reportedly ordinary his household staff to strip naked be the pool. who doesn't do that. another saudi royal detained after investigators say somebody tried to put tons of drugs on his private jet. let's get to it.
12:01 pm
first from the fox news deck this monday afternoon. breaking news from donald trump. he is attacking ben carson for the very reason his rival popular, carson's calm demeanor. there's a poll out showing carson winning iowa, winning huge now. support us cite carson's polite personality. trump says that's not a good thing. >> carson is lower energy than bush. i don't get him. i saw him being interviewed. he's a nice guy. these chinese negotiator come in there. fear. fear. >> indeed. the attack cams after several hits to donald trump's campaign. a new poll shows ben carson leading in iowa at a level we have never seen. 32%. 14 points ahead of the donald. carson is the king of iowa, at least for now. and the third survey in a week shows donald trump dropping
12:02 pm
there. still dropping. trump blames -- wait for it -- the media. trump says he doesn't trust the pollsters. the polls show carson has a strong lead with iowa's christian conservatives. trump is also going after rival-jeb bush, who is trying to get out of the single digits in polls. the bush campaign announcing its cutting jobs and slashing paychecks. this weekend a strategy session with donors and family. >> bush has no money. with mommy and daddy, and they're working on their campaign. they're working. >> donald trump. the bush team described his weekend's session as a pep rally to revive the campaign. the fox top story and carl cameron is ong it for us live in washington. >> this meeting was planned months ago and was supposed to be a celebration, heading to the iowa caucus but that's not how it went. jeb bush used to say he would be campaigning with joy in his
12:03 pm
heart, but his slashing his payroll and re-organizing his campaign. evidently, obviously, clearly, ticked off at the way trump dominated the race and he is stuck in single digits. watch. >> if this election is about how we're going to fight to get nothing done, then i don't want any part of it. i got a lot of really cool thing is could do other than sit around, being miserable, listening to people demonize me, and me feeling compelled to demonize them. that's a joke. n want that. >> don't misunderstand that.hat. unless he can find a new way to excite voters bush won't stop criticizing trump and neither will the rest of the field, and there is a debate two days from now so bush and trump will probably be sanding face to face and nose to nose. >> speaking 0 the debate. donald trump seems to want to debate in an almost playground, whether presbyterian is better than another denomination? >> this is not the first time
12:04 pm
that trump and carson have sparred over religion. trump questioned carson's faith and refuse teed apologize, saying caron wasn't always a figure and whether he was a good relation figure. when carson pointed to his faith and sis one of the distinguishing differences is that was carson gives all credit to god. trump insists he washington wasn'ts dissing seventh dayed a ven advertising but carson wasn't buying. pit. hillary was right when she said the republicans are there trying to destroy each other. >> reporter: there are four polls in five days out of iowa that show that carson is up in many cases double digits, and particularly his support is strongest among christian conservatives. christians have differences with seventh dayed a ven 'tises. there's a variety of different
12:05 pm
traditions. the mowing note able being they call saturday their sabbath. trump denies he is trying to put a wedge here but christian conservatives hold sway in iowa. >> carl cameron, nice to see you, carl, thank you. david drucker, good to see you. devolves to, wow this way i worship god is so much cooler2[ñ and better and important than the way you worship god. if nothing else, realize house overstated and outdated this iowa beginning is. who does that's make sense to? >> well, look, i'm sure a lot of americans look at this and wonder what the heck is going. this is what happens when a campaign gets closer to voting. we're lease than 100 days to iowa, and candidates who think the might lose/ñl or run behind start to make moves and you see voters thinking more clearly about their choice. so you usually see a little bit of a shift from summer poll to fall polls. >> during the process, often the
12:06 pm
winnowing happens within one party. we were a week to week sort of thing last year but for the moment the two outsiderred are trump and carson. >> that's correct. and they've held sway through most of the campaign but i wouldn't be surprised to see things shook up even more, and let's talk about iowa for a second. as much as the winner of the caucuses over the past couple of presidential cycles hasn't done much, iowa can play a really important role this time, and that's about the winnowing. imagine donald trump, the whole premise of his candidacy so far has been about strength and about winning, and for no other reason, that's what trump talks about. i'm ahead in all the polls. what die need a pollster? i'm winning in the all the polls. he's no longer winning in all the polls and if he loses iowa it could puncture a hole in the balloon of his candidate say and it's a big problem because the whole premise of his campaigns destroyed. >> there was a time when
12:07 pm
candidates needed to seem in touch with the every guy, like every guy -- my father used to put $100 bill in aluminum foil in the mail when i was young and struggling with a new life and when that would coo come it was like manna from heaven. frump thump had a similar experiencer. >> not been easy for me. and i started off in brooklyn mitchell father gave me a small loan of a million dollars. i came into manhattan and i had to pay him back and pay him back with interest. >> true american story. >> it's tough when your big struggle is starting out in brooklyn. look, shep, i think that for a lot of candidates this would be a huge gaff. i think in this case donald trump will weather it without any gaff issues because a lot of his voters really like him, and it hasn't mattered this entire time that he flies around in his own plane and talks about his wealth. so this is just another part of that. >> if donald trump and ben carson are on center stage now,
12:08 pm
who is waiting next in the wings? does it feel like marco rubio is that guy now? >> i think it's rubio and cruz waiting next. on wednesday in the next debate, it's going to be rubio next to center stage, next to trump, not bush, and i think that people like me, who are following this thing i want to see what rubio does, what kind of organization he is building. i want to see what cruz maximizes what is a very good campaign but he has to make move in iowa and elsewhere where the air is taken up by trump and carson and let's see if rubio becomes the new lane for the more governing-mind republicans, essentially replacing jeb bush. >> joe biden talking about his relationship with hillary clinton. the vice-president told "60 minutes" the rumors about a strained relationship between the top democrats nothing but lies. volunteer biden says he is good friends with secretary clinton. they even had break fast
12:09 pm
together after she decided to run. >> said, hillary, if i rub it would be a great race between us. if i don't run, wish you the best of luck. best of luckñ the knee i'll give or 125% of my support. >> he is a better choice for the job. he rillet rated hi is not running because in his mind it's too late for him to get in and put a campaign togetheri wr to . jed henry is live in the d.c. bureau. i watched that "60 minutes" thing last night with an smh going, that whole story was opportunity? really, mr. vice-president? okay? >> seem to be floated out there, the suggestion he was going to get in, now he concluded he can't win. and that is in the end whïe5 joe biden didn't get in. who does he think is probably going to win? hillary clinton is celebrating her 68th birthday today, in the strongest position she has been in this entire campaign after the self-inflicted wounds. now you see her rising in the polls. given the strong debate
12:10 pm
performance, saturday night at the jefferson jackson dinner iowa, was there and hillary clinton, a lot of the supporters were holding up signs saying "i'm with her," trying toéikyaae bit perhaps, and say, look, let's turn out the vote, especially among women, and in fact here's the new tv ad today talking, what, about pay equity. >> do you think when you're t as much you'll beg! as if you were a male? >> this is one of the jobs where they have to pay you the same. i'm going to do everything i can to make sure every woman in every job gets paid thes@ts sam. >> reporter: inmer speech in iowa she said, know my critics are saying i'm exploiting the gender card. she says is if the is the gender card, deal me in she tries trying to turn it around and she might make history as the first female president. >> for the longest time her chief competitor didn't say much
12:11 pm
negative. >> it changed over the weekend. i was there and he all of a sudden went after not hillary but bill clinton, saying that -- suggesting the clintons have been for nafta and all the trade deals that were not good for the left and the country. he went after them as well on issues like same-sex marriage and suggesting hillary clinton was coming to that issue too late in terms of where his position is. he has been constantly liberal on all of these big issues, and in fact, on these latest trade deal, transpacific partnership that hillary clinton has flip-flopped and said she is against, he let her on that as well. listen. >> that agreement is not now, nor has it ever been, the gold standard of trade agreements.lóq did not support it yesterday, i do not support it today. and i will not support it tomorrow. >> you saw the reaction in that
12:12 pm
room. his rhetoric was being eaten up by iowa democrats. barack obama did something like that in 2007 at the same dinner. there's a big difference. that was an historic candidacy and it's hard to see whether bernie sanders can take the rhetoric and organization -- get the organizational support to beat hillary clinton. >> he is working on it. ed, thank you. is vladimir putin planning to cut america's internet connection? you heard about this. right? russia sunday reportedly lurking near some undersea cable that carry the world's information and trims of dollars in financial deals every day. cut those cables? my goodness. we're install trouble. -- we're all in trouble. but is that what is happening? where are these cables and what do they do? details coming up. important than your health.
