as passengers scramble down emergency slides trying to escape the inferno. how was it cleared for takeoff. >> this is not what you want to see before boarding a plane. dynamic airways jet burst into flames on the fort lauderdale runway. you can see the thick black smoke gushing as passengers escape on an emergency slide. they were taxiing when it suddenly caught fire. moments before another pilot at the airport spotted fuel leaking out of the left engine and alerted air traffic control. passengers describe absolute chaos as they scrambled to get off the burning plane. >> i was spleetly -- completely

asleep. when i woke up i heard screams and people crying. >> i heard a bump and i heard people screaming running to the front. what happened? i turn around and look in the window and see flames. >> emergency crews got to the burning plane in six minutes. all were evacuated on the emergency slides. >> 21 people were hurt in the fire. 19 had been business charged from the hospital. officials in fort lauderdale say they averted a major disaster. >> the two minute response time and treatment of the injured. >> the plane had a fuel leak near the left engine. it isn't clear why it was cleared to fly. the ntsb will investigate the whole ordeal. the airport was closed for nearly three hours but is back

up and running normal this morning. thank god it was not in the air. heather and ainsley. >> good point. patricia stark. >> another fox news alert. an attempted cop killer is dead after a shootout with police in southern kentucky. floyd ray cook eluded authorities before being hunted down in a ditch in kentuckyover night. once confronted he opened fire at the officers who then shot back leaving him dead. cook was wanted for shooting an officer in tennessee and firing at a kentucky trooper who tracked him down. >> two police officers shot in a gunfight with a rob presuspect. they got into a shootout with an 18-year-old accused of stealing money and guns from a home. one officer shot several times. now hospitalized in stable condition. the other shot in the chest was saved his bulletproof vest.
