they did that using remotely operated vehicle. in this case. curv 21. that was deployed yesterday afternoon from the apache and it is right now above the ocean floor at the wreck. what they will do with this. they have used it to verify it is the el faro. but what they will do next, looking for a basketball size piece of equipment known as the viage data recorder or black box on the ship. that has the last 12 or 24 hours of voice recordings from the bridge and important readouts stored. after it is recovered. the black box will give investigators a very chlor picture of what happened in the hours and minutes before the el faro went down. >> captain swoeny, can you tell us more about the see- called

black box. we know about it from a airplane. the pilot had head phones and recording all of that information. and if you find that blackxd bo you will hear what the pilots have to say. i don't have the image of that on a cargo ship. is the coptain hooked up to a radio and how much would be be recorded? >> the bdr is about the size of a basketball. it is encased in orange blastic. the international orange. and it is normally two parts of it. the part ha is recoverable usually found outside of the bridge above the bridge deck or after side on the bulkhead of the wall on the outside of the bridge. it is able to be retrieved in the event of a ship sinking. that has a closed loop and it

continually monitors the engine spode and weather what the weather instruments are saying and records the voice recordings on the bridge. what people are saying, the ship or what we are trying to do and deep water horizon. it would be available to find out what happened before. el faro same thing. >> it is interesting, we than the ship lost contact in the hours before it went down and there is a lot of questions about whether or not the engine was working and it was retrofitted for future sales. that will be interesting to find. i find it also from the ntsb in the the press release saying that the ship appears to be in an upright position in one
