leading the latest political polling according to the latest nbc/"wall street journal" carson stands at 29%. trump 23%, rubio 11%, ted ted cruz 10%, bush at 8%. the rest of the candidates are 3% or below. we can expect some of them to drop out soon. trump and carson believe america is in trouble. jeb bush sees it differently. while he realize the the economy is soft and danger overseas he thinks america is close to turning it around. they say our best days are behind us. let's be clear, i acknowledge the difficulties and challenges we face. but i reject that kind of thinking. i believe america's best days are not behind us but squarely in front of us. >> oh, yeah. >> if we elect the right leadership. >> talking points believes that america's potential is indeed enormous. however, there are many serious problems that are impotent congress simply

refuses to deal with. three examples ever after all these years the southern border with mexico still not secure that's a scandal and led to many social and economic problems not to mention security difficulties. problem number two, the economy. the obama administration has run up a staggering debt which will soon hit $20 trillion. in fact, mr. obama will add nearly as much debt to this country as all of the american presidents combined by the time he leaves office. an astounding legacy. that will damage the nation big time down the road. and all of the trillions of dollars the obama administration has spent on social justice and instituting a nanny state has led to even more poverty. problem number three. the jihad threat overseas beyond any doubt, isis has grown in power, and that american policies have failed in the middle east and afghanistan.

the new nuke deal with iran could be one of the worst foreign policy blunders of all time. it's speculation, i know that. however, like the debt, trouble down the road is almost guaranteed. so whomever the new president is, have l. have huge problems to deal with on every front. that american leader will have to get tough on isis, another jihadist also putin. and will also have to solve problems like the southern border and immigration in general. if the new president can accomplish those things and that's a huge if, america's potential might be unleashed. but it will take a strong, tough leader to do that especially with the inept congress. and that's the memo. now for the top story tonight, reaction. joining us from washington kirsten powers. are you closer to the jeb bush philosophy or donald trump philosophy? >> i guess i would say jeb bush because i don't think that it's -- i do think that our best days are ahead of us and that we have serious problems. buff the way that trump

talks about our country is not something that i recognize. >> but, if we have serious problems and they haven't been solved in, i don't know, 4 o0 years, that's the border, 40 years, all right. isn't it time to someone like trump who is not a politician, who doesn't do business as unusual, who makes very bold promises, that he almost has to fulfill or he is a laughing stock or is it better to go with a traditional guy like jeb bush who says, well, yeah, but we are still a great country. it's kind of a stump speech, is it not? >> first of all, i don't think that trump cares if he is a laughing stock. he is -- he is a laughing stock to a lot of people and he doesn't care. the other thing i would say is those aren't your only choices. you don't have to choose between donald trump and jeb bush. there are other people running who are offering a different kind of vision or different running different kind of campaigns marco rubio, for example. who i think, you know, are

reasonable alternatives the philosophy all comes down to did the obama administration damage the country to such an extent that it will take years to rebuild or is the damage, you know, shallow and a good leader coming in can turn it around quickly? which do you think? >> i don't think anything get turned around quickly. i wouldn't pin everything on barack obama. i think george bush did enormous damage to the country by getting us into the iraq war there is a lot that has to be untangled and a lot that has to be done. a lot of structural problems in our country. a lot of structure turley problems with the economy. it's not something that can be fixed overnight. hopefully we would be able to move the country in the right direction. >> what about the change of attitude among the population of america? 50% taking some kind of government entitlement program other than what they paid for social security and medicare.

what about that do 1950s anymore. should that be taken into account? >> as you know we disagree on this because i don't think it has anything to do with the can do mentality. i think we have an economy with not enough jobs. there are people who a, can't get a job and so they need help from the government and b there are people who are, woulding jobs and still need help from the government. >> government policies inhibited job creation and athens been proven. look, obamacare, sliced the number from 40 to 29. working average and a lot of small businesses. it restrained hiring. all the regulations on businesses and the high taxation, the highest in the world powers, the highest in the world on corporations have made -- have meant that corporations don't want to hire and expant. to say in this administration hasn't brutalized the country isn't s. kind of naive. >> well, i think it's a disagreement. the point is we had a major

impact segment tonight. bring in karl rove who is in new york city tonight. according to the latest polling only five republican candidates are above 3%. look at that only a. so, fiorina, kasich, huckabee, christie and paul are all below 3. would you advise them to drop out? >> look. entering the campaign is an intense personal decision. exiting the campaign is intense personal decision. actually, i think there are six candidates who are 4.8% or above in the real clear politics poll.

i would say this. there are two groups of people who are at risk here there are four candidates most at risk, lindsey graham, bobby jindal, rick santorum. >> they are at zero in this poll. >> right. >> now these below 5. >> yeah there are four of them. kasich, christie, these are fairly big name. >> huckabee, paul, and christie. >> all big names. >> the question is this. they are looking at their cards and saying to themselves do i have enough money to stay alive through the november debate and december debate and maybe get all the way to iowa or all the way to new hampshire? will i have enough money without going into debt? and can i hope that something will happen in this race that gives me a boost in november, december? and as a result. >> it's a money calculation. >> money calculation and momentum calculation. >> obviously don't have momentum if they are that low. >> let's be carolful about this. we have 16 candidates we started with 14 today there has never been a republican nomination battle going back to 18566 that had this many

forgotten war. we will get to that in a minute. when you read this poll, i am being unfair. there are spiritual people that don't align themselves with any faith. that's true there is a growing secularism in the democratic party that i think is reflected in their positions. do you agree? >> i do. and what i did was when i got the assignment i talked to three democrats today. and i said what do you think of this poll and what do you think of this? they said number one for most millennials they look at this poll and for the most part declare themselves democrats even if they are not. younger people do it. what are the two issues that matter most? pot? number one, legalized we want to do it and same sex marriage. that seems to be resonating on campuses even those that might lean conservative. the structure is in the church. they say to both things yeah i'm spiritual. i have got my value system but i don't need to go to the church every sunday because fundamentally i'm beginning to disagree i have a third opinion just my own. i see christians being slaughtered by muslims. i see she a and sunni wiping each other out.
