no political rant. talk about the media, maybe i'll respond. and also dvr the show in case you're not sitting around on sunday. we're back next sunday as we are every sunday with the latest buzz. the leading republican contenders there for the presidential race are taking the headlines by storm with dr. ben carson going on the offensive against media scrutiny of his life story. and donald trump taking a star turn on "saturday night live," as dozens of protesters make their voices heard just outside the studios. hello, everyone. welcome to america's news headquarters. >> meantime, senator marco rubio is taking on his critics, releasing nearly two years of credit card statements, response
9:01 am
to his questions about his personal spenlding bhiel he was a state lawmaker in that kristin fisher has the latest. what exactly is in the american express card statements? >> weshll, eric, not much that n hurt rubio. this is great news for his campaign. there's been so much speculation there would be something bad in these credit card statements. turns out, rubio only spent about $65,000 over two years on his republican party of florida american express card. that's far less than hiss successors. his campaign says, quote, these statements are more than ten years old and the only people who ask for them are the liberal media and political opponents. we're releasing them because marco has nothing to hide. the other thing everybody is talk being about is domd trump's performance on "saturday night live." he's getting mixed reviews but he took his critics cred-on. here is a clip. >> you're a racist? >> who the hell -- i knew this was going to happen. who is that? >> trump's a racist!
9:02 am
>> it's larry david. what are you doing, larry? >> i heard if i yelled that they'd give me $5,000. >> as a businessman, i can fully respect that. that's okay. >> no doubt there's a lot of material to work with as the republicans head into tuesday's debate. >> the group that put up the $5,000 said they will pay larry david jokes or no jokes. we'll see if he donates it to charity. on the democratic side, what are the candidates there doing today? >> bernie sanders and martin o'malley are campaigning in las vegas today. sanders has been going after clinton more than usual. today he chose to stress their similarities. >> well, the answer is yes and no. yes, we do agree on a number of issues and by the way on her worst day hillary clinton will
9:03 am
be an infinitely better candidate and president than the republican candidates on his best day. >> but we'll see if he sticks to that softened-down rhetoric when the democrats next debate saturday. >> kristin, thanks. well, eric, victims of the russian jetliner crash in egypt remembered today in a somber service at the famous st. isaac's cathedral in st. petersburg. the church bells tolling 224 times, one for each of the people who were lost. it comes as egyptian authorities reveal new information learned from the plane's cockpit voice recorder, a sound heard in the final second, one that french media reports was an explosion. conor powell joins us from our mideast bureau with the latest. >> reporter: arthel, nobody is saying with 100% certainty it was a bomb, but all the evidence is beginning to point in that direction. today a top egyptian
9:04 am
investigator said that the noise from a, quote, undetermined source was heard from the black box recording immediately before the aircraft was crashed. now, that sound likely a bomb according to aviation officials, and earlier in the week pentagon officials said that there was an undetected and sudden heat flash seconds before the plane crashed, another potential sort of piece of evidence leading towards a bomb. now, bomb egyptian and russian authorities are saying it's way too early to draw any concrete conclusions but so far there isn't really much in the way of other theaters out there in terms of supporting evidence. have a listen. >> there's only a certain number of explanations for why a plane would blow up, obviously, and the investigators have to rule out all the different options. and the more they find out, the forensics will help and then obviously the intelligence that is being collected. but it sounds more likely than not, given what has been stated
9:05 am
thus far. >> reporter: russia announcing friday it was suspending all flights to egypt, today it's saying it had flown some 11,000 people back from egypt to russia. as the investigation continues, is it a joint egyptian/russian investigation. however, the "new york times" reporting that the fbi is also lending a hand with forensic evidence. so that investigation continues now with some american help. but right now nobody a week after this crash is saying with 100% certainty, arthel, that it was a bomb, but that certainly what it looks like. >> conor powell, thank you very much. all the officials i've talked to, i think everybody is very much pointing toward the fact this was an isis-related attack with a bomb put on the airplane. the question is, how did the bomb get on the airplane? there's a lot of theory that it possibly could have been an inside job at the airport to put
9:06 am
the luggage in the hull of the aircraft. >> that was house homeland security chairman congressman mike mccakauccaul this morning g the possibility that the russian jet was downed by an isis bomb. if so, this would certainly open a new front in the threat capability of that terrorist group. ambassador john bolton formformer ambassador to the yuntded nations, senior fellow and fox news contributordoe oor joins u. ambassador, what does it mean if isis did take down this airliner? >> well, when the authorities reach a definitive conclusion that it was a troirierrorist at and also a definitive conclusion on who it was -- and i just pause here. i think it's likely it's isis. they've claimed responsibility. but i don't think at this point we've heard anything publicly that would require that we rule out the muslim brotherhood. obviously locked in a death struggle with egypt's military
9:07 am
government, or other possible terrorist groups. i think it's important to keep it open. but let's assume it's isis. i think it's the worst mistake isis has ever made because, for plenty of good reasons, domestic politics as well as international affairs, i think vladimir putin would respond very harshly with a strong military retaliation against some part of the isis network near its headquarters in syria. >> putin, of course, has had a lot of experience dealing with the radical islamic terrorists, che che che checheei chechians. this could be the death nail, predicted, of isis. putin has a spectacular track record of crushing terrorists, they write, suggesting that if it turns out the metro jet was bombed the terrorists can count on paying heavily. putin's cause should be to completely destroy the operation the same we he destroyed the
9:08 am
terrorists among the chechens. what do you think is 0 going on in putin's mind in dealing with the islamic state? >> i think he's taking advantage along with his military commanders the delay while the investigation goes on to plan out what their response will be. and i think at this point it's far too early to predict. it could be one massive retaliatory strike to prove the point and then move on to something else. it could be more sustained. we just don't know at the moment. but i think that a very strong response by russia would have an impact far beyond this one terrorist incident. i think it would help bolster the assad regime in syria, which is what russia's most recent intervention was intended to do there. i think a really effective retaliation against isis would stand in stharp contrast to the weak american response to isis over the past year. i think this would play into
9:09 am
putin's larger strategy of becoming the dominant external power many the middle east, replacing the united states. >> do you think that's possible? look today at the front page of the "new york times," says that the coalition against isis is almost basically falling apart, that some of our arab allies have just peeled away. >> well, the coalition was never that much to begin with, and i think what the saudis in particular are worried about is the chaos in yemen at their back door with houthi rebels backed by iran with another isis cell right there in what used to be yemen along with the headquarters of al qaeda in the arabian peninsula. i think they believe that's far more urgent from their perspective, although it is also an indication of the lack of effective american leadership to keep the coalition together. coalitions don't come together without a lot of diplomatic effort and they can fall apart when the leader of the coalition, in this case the obama administration, doesn't
9:10 am
pay adequate diplomatic attention to keeping it together. >> so finally, if indeed a bomb is finally found to be the kacae of this and putin takes action, how do you see this playing snout. >> well, as i say, i don't think we know whether it will be one strike or something more sustained than that. but i think putin will respond strongly, and i think it will be viewed and certainly he'll promote it as a symbol of russian strength, resolve, determination, and it will help him in his campaign to break egypt away from the united states, too, given that this happened as a result of a problem on egyptian territory. so i think, as i say, isis has made a bad mistake, if they are the culprits, and the russians will benefit. >> russians will benefit from this tragedy. ambassador john bolton's prediction and warning. thank you as always, ambassador. eric, meantime, some tough words from defense secretary ash carter. the pentagon chief raising the alarm on russia and china,
9:11 am
accusing moscow of endangering world order and warning about china's expanding influence and growing military might. garrett tenney is live with details. >> ash carter had strong word forz russia saying that they are endangering the current world order and as america's top concern involving security threats. this is at the reagan defense forum in california last night. the defense secretary slammed russia for its incursions in ukraine, loose talk about nuclear weapons and throwing gasoline on an already dangerous fire in syria. the u.s. is searching for ways now to deter russian aggression and protect u.s. allies while investing in defense technology on the ground, in the air, space and cyberspace as well. >> we do not seek a cold, let alone, a hot cold with russia. we do not seem to make russia an
9:12 am
enemy. but make no mistake, the united states will defend our interests and our allies, the principled international order and the positive future that it affords us all. >> carter's criticisms of russia were among the strongest he's made this public. he left open the possibility that russia's role in syria could evolve into one the u.s. can embrace. >> we will continue to cooperate when and where our and russia's interests align, and it's possible, just possible, we'll see russia may play a constructive role in resolving the civil war. >> the defense secretary just returned from an eight-day trip through asia, including the disputed south china sea where china continues building artificial islands and claiming them as sovereign lands. >> as a rising power, it's to be expected china will have growing ambitions and a modernizing military. but how china behaves will be
9:13 am
its true test to commitment to peace and security. >> the defense secretary also indicated the u.s. has been shifting its focus toward the asia pacific, in part by sending our best ships, weapons, and equipment to that region. arthel? >> garrett, thanks very much. well, almost everybody you know has a cell phone now, and those videos are common and widespre widespread. it's the hope one can solve a case in texas where a girl was run over in a car in houston caught on cell phone video. i want to warn you, of course, that the video is clearly disturbing. the 14-year-old's girl's mother is determined to work with police to track down whoever almost killed her daughter. will carr is live with the details on this from our bureau. hello, will. >> hey there, eric. well, this is a felony hit-and-run, quite terrifying video, and you said it. we want to repeat here that this
9:14 am
is quite disturbing video that you're about to see. this was outside of cohen middle school in south houston. moments before there's a fight going on outside the school. it's unclear if the 14-year-old was part of that fight. what you can see is a light-colored sedan running over hunter, lit al raly crushing her. her mom says the female driver ran over her daughter like a piece of foil. >> broken ribs, broken leg, broken hip, her liver is split in two. she has pins in her hips. she has pins in her legs. >> hunter remains in intense tiff care at a local hospital in south houston. also, her mother tells fox 26 that authorities know who the driver of that car was and that
9:15 am
she'll have to answer to a higher judge. we did speak to police in houston this morning. they say they have a $5,000 reward as part of their crime stommers program for any information that leads to an arrest. >> thankfully she lived. hopefully they get the person who did this. will, thank you. >> very disturbing. we're going to get back to this when we come back. we are just days away from the next republican presidential debate, and senators marco rubio and ted cruz are coming on strong in the polls. are establishment candidates now making their move on the political outside irs? we're going to discuss the stakes in the upcoming debate coming up next. and three teenagers of accused of plot out what authorities say was a mass shooting at two michigan schools. investigators say it was no idol threat. >> it appears that they definitely had access to firearms, and for purchase and access as well in general.
9:18 am
9:19 am
9:20 am
18-year-old were allegedly targeting a middle school and high school in argentine township just south of flint. police learned of the plot from a school resource officer. the teens had, quote, they said specific targets in mind, that they also had access to guns. and charged with convict firespirin commit first degree murder. i don't have any interest in being the vice press. it's not -- you don't run for vice president. >> how do you push back on some who say, maybe at some point but not right now. >> that's the argument the establishment in the republican party makes, marco, wait in line it's not your turn. this country can't have another four years like the last eight. i don't know what we're waiting for. >> that's senator marco rubio talking this morning. meantime, the latest fox news poll showing a surge of support for senator rubio and senator ted cruz. just ahead of tuesday's debate. they are tied in third place behind the political outsiders
9:21 am
dr. ben carson and donald trump. jamie weinstein is here, senior editor of "the daily caller" joining me to talk about all of this. good to see you. >> good to see you. >> what's working for rubio, what's working for cruz? >> i think in both cases they both run very good campaigns to date. cruz has kind of surprised in his fund-raising numbers. he's raised an unbelievable amount of money. people didn't imagine that. he's focused on iowa, the evangelicals and nonestablishment. he's run a good campaign. rubio is a natural politician. he inspires people and has run a good campaign. he hasn't raised as much as cruz but has spend what he he has raised well. >> what points do you think each of them will need to raise in fbn's debate tuesday? >> it's interesting because they see a coming clash i think between the two. cruz is kind of a bleakly attacking rubio, saying very nice things but then will put a
9:22 am
jab that he's a moderate, in in the moderate lane, which is not a really fair assessment. rubio has a 90-something percent score from a conservative action but he wants to paint rubio as the moderately and himself as the kuhn receiver tiff. i think rubio will have to stick to his point that he speak bz this new generational leadership, i can make this century as great as the last one. trust in me. and kind of this inspire the way he's inspiring in the debates. >> any pitfalls to watch out for in the debate? >> i think they just have to continue with their message and not get sidetracked with donald trump and other fights we're seeing within the republican party. so far, cruz especially has done very well avoiding kind of the donald trump pitfall. rubio has done a decent job but kind of traded exchanges with him. they've just got to continue to stake stick to their messages. >> that's whey wanted to know. they're going to kind of, cruz and rubio, you're this, you're that, you're a moderate, you're more conservative. but while they're doing that, do they have to make sure to
9:23 am
actually get messages out to the people, not just what this person is, which is why you don't want this person? >> both of them have dob a pretty good job of actually putting out policies. cruz recently put out a tax prann plan. rubio has been the most fluid person probably on foreign policy. what's interesting is this idea that cruz is painting rubio as an establishment figure, i think this is to rubio's advantage. he isn't an establishment figure. he actually bridges both lanes, may be the only candidakancandi bridges the divide. he may have the advantageous because of that. >> with those points on the table, would rubio of those two be the one with a better chance of becoming the nominee and beating hillary clinton? >> you know, i'm on record i think rubio is the most likely at this point to rise and become the nominee. that doesn't mean it's for sure. cruz is still there, but i think rubio has the attributes that might position him better going forward to win the nomination. >> if rubio, last question here,
9:24 am
is coming from let's say the business friendly establishment wing, this is an opportunity on the fox business network to speak about economy and how it would affect not only the people but business iz as well. >> sure. but again i would point out he doesn't turn off the establishment wing. but he is kind of bridging that establishmen establishment/nonestablishment divide. he's not scaring the business wing of the party like some think cruz did with the shutdown. but he as also from -- he was a tea party candidate in 2010. >> they both were. then cruz came in in 2012. >> i think the advantage to rubio is he bridges the divide where cruz at the moment doesn't quite bridge the divide. >> we'll keep watching and have you again. always good to have you on set. >> nice to see you. >> thanks. don't forget the next republican debate is coming up this tuesday november 10th on the fox business network. maria bartiromo and neil cavuto will moderate the 9:00 p.m. event along with gerard baker.
9:25 am
then head to fox business.com/channel finder by the way to find where fbn is on your system because you don't want to miss the debate. >> can't wait for that. there's a new wash warning about the transplant tourism. what research of researchers are saying about a potentially dangerous practice. what it means to our transplant system here at home. dr. ben carson in an eye-opening interview about faith, medicine and how his remarkable career in medicine has prepared him for the nation's biggest job. ing to kno. ing to kno. pinot noir, which means peanut of the night.

or abnormal bleeding. if you had a spinal injection while on eliquis call your doctor right away if you have tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness. while taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily... and it may take longer than usual for bleeding to stop. seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. eliquis treats dvt & pe blood clots. plus had less major bleeding. both made switching to eliquis right for me. ask your doctor if it's right for you. i'm arthel neville. time for "sunday hoiscall". >> joining us is marc siegel, the author of "the inner pulse: unlocking the secret code of
