where they'll have 36 fighter jets in action. finally, the nation decides tomorrow whether or not to continue a state of emergency which gives police the power to conduct searches without warrants. now, back to "hannity." welcome to "hannity." tonight president obama continues to face heavy criticism for his appalling response to the vicious terrorist attacks in paris. here's what he said yesterday. >> we have always understood that this would be a long-term campaign. there will be setbacks and there will be successes. the terrible events in paris were obviously a terrible and sickening setback. even as we grieve with our french friends, however, we can't lose sight that there has been progress being made. isil does not represent islam to the degree that anyone would equate the terrible actions that

took place in paris with the views of islam, those types of stereotypes are counterproductive, they're wr g wrong. jim, i just spent the last three questions answering that question. i don't know what more you want me to add. all right. this is another variation on the same question. let me try it once last time. >> here with reaction, how to make america great again, 2016 republican presidential candidate donald trump. my question is really simple. this is a president that said hours before this attack in paris that isis was contained. he referred to them as the jv team. he's talked about or administration officials have talked about overseas contingency operations and workplace violence and meanwhile, this keeps happening again and again, and he can't say radical islam. what do you -- and now he's going to take in 10,000 syrian refugees even though our

intelligence officials warn us that isis will infiltrate that population. how do you process this? >> i mean, personally, i don't think he was meant for this job, you want to know the truth. the temperament is wrong. i watched that disastrous news conference yesterday. it was insulting. he wasn't angry at the killers, the murderers, the animals that did this horrible thing. he was angry at reporters and some of the republicans, frankly. but he was angry at the reporters, and i just don't think -- it's not for him. unfortunately, we have to suffer with it. but this job is not for him. that was a terrible performance yesterday and an embarrassment to the country. >> the national intelligence -- the director of national intelligence, james clapper said isis, it's likely they'll infiltrate the refugee population. john kirby has said as much, the assistant fbi director, the fbi

director james comey, michael steinbeck, mike mccall said. and here's more people warning that isis will infiltrate the syrian population. here's what they said. >> the concern is in syria, the lack of our footprint on the ground in syria that the databases won't have the information we need. it's not that we won't have a lack of process, but a lack of information. >> that raises great concern as to being able to do a proper background check on individuals coming into the country. >> yes. >> we don't, obviously, put it past the likes of isil to infiltrate operatives among these refugees. >> we can only query against that which we have collected. and so if someone has never made a ripple in the pond in syria in a way that would get their identity or their interest reflected in our database, we can query our database till the cows come home, but nothing will show up because we have no record on that person.

>> there's some fear, some fear that some of these refugees may actually be posing as refugees but they might actually be al qaeda or isis terrorists trying to sneak into europe or the united states. what do you make of that? >> well, certainly that's a possibility. i mean, you can't dismiss that out of hand. >> mr. trump, if the president keeps insisting, as he does, to take in these syrian refugees, is he not gambling with the live of americans? if americans die, if what happens in paris happens here, does he not end up having blood on his hands for not listening to his own intelligence officials? >> totally. it's a total disaster. the people are going to come in. i talked to you about this two weeks ago where we talked about the migration, how so many of the people in the migration were strong young men. you look at them. i'm saying where are the women, where are the children? we are taking in people we have no idea who they are, no identification, they have no

papers. they're creating papers. making up papers. he doesn't even mention the word. he doesn't want to talk about radical islamic terrorism. he refuses to say the word. here's a man who refuses to say these three words. by the way, hillary clinton refuses to say the words. she's as bad as he is, although i'm not so sure about that. can anybody be worse than what we have right now? so you have people coming in, and i heard as of this morning they're already missing one or two people. they came in and they're gone, they're missing. so i think it's a way -- it could very well be the ultimate trojan horse. we're going to have to see. hopefully not. but thousands are coming in. and you mentioned 10,000. during the debate the other night, the democratic debate, they talked about 65,000. i've heard they want to take in 250,000. >> but not all from syria. 255,000 number's over three years, not all necessarily from syria, but we don't know where they're coming from. >> we have no idea where they're coming from. >> dianne feinstein, i'm hardly

her biggest supporter, but she chastised the president by saying isis isn't contained. i read the intelligence faithfully. isil is expanding. she's saying that. how does you're president get that wrong by saying that hours before the attack? how is that possible? >> well, not only that, if you look at gitmo, five people released the same day and they are sent back on a plane and they'll be fighting against us very soon. he released them the same day. you think that maybe, just maybe he could have waited or done it some other time. they shouldn't be released to start off with, but you look at what's happening, the way our country's being run in so many different ways, but this is now the hot topic. this is security. this is the ultimate problem because we need borders. now all of a sudden everybody saying mr. trump, i didn't agree with the wall. now all of a sudden everyone's agreeing with the wall, the real wall, not the toy wall.

plenty of people will come through the southern border. you know that and so do i. they'll be coming from the middle east. they'll be coming from places that it's not going to be a good situation. but people, sean, are missing. >> that's true. they have the one person you're talking about in new orleans in that specific case. i look at your poll numbers. and this week and last week, two of your biggest numbers, one over 40%, 38%. and i wonder if this message is resonating? daniel horowitz of conservative review, i'll put it up so our viewers can watch this, talk about the increase since 9/11. and the numbers of the people we are taking in from muslim countries. we're not at war with islam. but is there a clash of cultures if you grow up in a country under shariah law where women can't drive and must cover themselves and women can't go out in public without a male relative or four male eye witnesses are needed for rape.

is there a conflict of cultures that makes it very difficult in. >> there certainly seems to be. there certainly seems to be. >> how should we factor that in when we're accepting in -- and again i'll put those statistics up when you're talking. how should we factor that in when you're talking about people from these countries. how to buy into the culture they came from or want to assimilate here? >> look at what's happening in germany. merkel's taken in all of these people. they're having riots in the street, having tremendous crime. she's made a terrible mistake. she's gone from being a good and respected leader where the german people are beside themselves. they don't know what's happening. look at what she's done. and then other, you know, you talk about the gulf states. they're making a fortune. they won't take anybody. and i'm not sure, but i don't think they're putting up very much money either. you look at what's happening in terms of this migration and in terms of what's coming. we have no idea. will they assimilate? will they be able to assimilate? i don't know that they want to

assimilate. but yet we take everybody. we don't know where they come from, we don't know what their crime record is. it could be wonderful. it could be a disaster. i have a feeling that a lot of bad feelings will happen out of this. if you remember a long time ago when this first started, i said, look, i have a big heart. i have as big a heart as anybody. we should do maybe a safe zone or something over in syria and get everybody else involved and have a big safe zone. but if they come into this country, they're going out. if i win, they're going out. we can't take a chance. you know, if you take thousands of people, and again i hear it's going to be many more than what you're talking about right now. but if you take thousands of people, sean, all you need is a couple. you don't need 25, you don't need 100. look at the damage done in paris with just a few people. >> that's a good point. is it worth the risk? if one american dies is it worth the risk? my answer is no. we can't afford to gamble with people's lives. here's my next question.

the republicans in congress, both the house an the senate, they have enumerated powers, the power of the purse. would you urge them to use that power and defund the president's efforts to take in these syrian refugees? >> i certainly would. you know what's interesting, i was talking about it before. i'm a republican, i'm a conservative. nothing's happened since we took the senate. now we have the house, we have the senate. nothing's happened. it's the same exact story. in fact, in a certain way with all of its executive orders, obama is doing better. we take the senate, we have majorities, nothing happens happen. i'm almost more disappointed -- i'll take the word "almost" without i'm more disappointed in the republicans than the democrats. at least with democrats we know where they're coming in. the republicans have done nothing. look at the budget they just passed. they've done nothing. >> i'm not disappointed with the republicans than i am democrats.

a lot of news was made after you suggested that there might be mosques in america that need to be shut down. can you go into more detail? >> well, you're going to have to do something. they're coming out of -- some bad things are happening. a lot of them are happening in the mosque. you're going to have to do something. i'm not the only one saying this, other kurns scountries arg this, frankly. >> terroristic threats. if you see that there's plotting and planning and talk of jihad and terroristic threats that we think might be talked about in these places, if we can prove that, in that case you would shut them down. >> nobody wants to say this and nobody wants to shut down religious institutions or anything, but you understand it. a lot of people understand it. we're going to have no choice. there's absolutely no choice. some really bad things are happening and they're happening fast. i think they're happening a lot faster than anybody understands, too. certainly a lot faster than our president understands because he doesn't understand anything. he doesn't get it.

taken in so far, 96% have been muslim, only 3% have been christian. if there's no way to vet them and they do have these sympathies and our national intelligence director says isis will infiltrate. >> it's been that way for a long time. in syria you have the christians where their heads are being chopped off randomly and at will and you have the muslims, who i'm not saying they have a great life but not as bad as what the christians go through, eye been told by people who really understand what's been happening over the last number of years, the hardest thing you can do is be a christian in syria and come into the united states. one of the easiest places in the entire world to come into the united states from is syria, if you're a muslim. so if you're a christian, you can't get into the united states. if you're a muslim, it's one of the easiest ways to get into the united states from syria. i'll tell you what, there's

something going on out there that maybe you and i don't know about it. but it's becoming more and more obvious. as far as bernie sanders, first of all, he's not going to win. he gave it away when he gave up the e-mail situation. and probably she's protected, hillary's protected by the democrats so she's not going to have problems. she should have problems because everyone else has had big problems and they've done much less. but bernie sanders' quote that he blamed the paris attack on global warming. that was the beauty. >> that's what he said in the debate. >> i had an onbligation to watc the rest. during the debate he said that the paris attack is a, you know, having to do with global warming. the whole thing is crazy. the third guy shouldn't even be on the stage. he was the mayor of baltimore. you see how that worked out. he shouldn't even be on the stage. frankly, hillary with her attitude, she can't win the election. she's weak as can be on illegal immigration. she's going to lose the election especially if i run against her.

but she's going to lose the election. >> but they have been wrong so often. they said you get rid of mubarak even though they gave him money and f-16s and tanks, get rid of gadhafi, they said things would be better in the middle east. they've gotten far worse. the president miscalculated. they're not the jv team. they've been wrong on so many different issues so many times. senator jeff sessions has pointed out all these instances where we bring in immigrants from uzbek and kuwait and ghana and yemen and even the boston bomber refugees. all these people come in and we have been wrong so many times. they get here and commit acts of terror against us. we've been wrong in the past. i don't think americans can have confidence in the system of vetting. again, you can't ascertain what's in anybody's heart, can you? >> we have been wrong so much. don't forget for two years i've been telling you take the oil, hit the oil, bomb the oil, take away isis' wealth, do it, do it,

do it, they just started doing it after this horror show happened. they just started doing it. now all of a sudden people are saying mr. trump was right, donald trump was right, but now they're bombing, finally they're bombing the oil and taking away some of the wealth. but they also have a lot of money coming in through a crooked banking system. it's sending a lot of money to isis. we have to change that. nobody knows more about the banking system than me. we have a backward banking system. >> my final question for you, you're elected president. this is a huge problem. how quickly could you fix this problem, how quickly does the wall get built and you take control of it and give me the specific steps that you take and how fast do we get it done? >> first thing i'd do is get everybody together. because we don't want to do this by ourselves. this is a worldwide problem. i'd get everybody together, that includes russia, and i've been right about that, too, now all of a sudden putin's going wild with bombing isis. and that's a good thing not a bad thing.

say they are contained and even dianne feinstein says they're not contained, they're expanding. how could he be so wrong to say man-caused disaster, overseas contingencies, workplace violence? what is it about him? >> i think, to be honest, he's been marinated in a world all his life that thinks america is the problem and that if you remove america from the world scene, whatever happens is better than having america engaged with the world. >> what does that say that this man has been president for seven years? >> i think there's actually a lot of people, unfortunately, who agree with him. but the fact is that the oldest christian communities on earth have been entirely eraised sed this guy's watch because of failed states that he helped create. >> is it a battle of cultures? in other words a war of cultures? you look at europe and you look at their immigration issues and you look at america now, these immigration issues are here.

are we at a point where america's going to lose its identity and that we will be battling the same battles that europe is facing? >> i think a few years down the line. but i think the point that you put to donald trump is actually quite right. if you're a liberal and you're all about, you know, gay rights and transgender bathrooms and all the other things they care about, when you look at polls of the countries where these refugees are coming from, they are overwhelmingly opposed to homosexuality and to all the other issues that liberals care about. so for example, you have amsterdam, the most tolerant city in europe, has an epidemic of gay bashing. you have parts of paris where non-muslim women cannot walk about uncovered. >> is the timing for trump on immigration -- and he said just before bomb the living -- out of them. >> right, right. >> does this help him? >> oh, yeah.

>> big time. him and cruz. >> it's a horrible attack, but in a sense it plays to the trump view of the world, that these are serious times and they demand a serious response. >> a strong response. >> and a strong response. and what everyone feels about mr. hollande or putin, if you compare it to obama in turkey, the worst he could say about this, that people who go to a concert, go to a restaurant, go to a soccer match and they're blown apart and there are corpses in the streets of one of the beacons of western civilization, and obama said, oh, it's a setback, a setback. >> and he's angry at republicans. >> he's angry at republicans. hollande and putin at least have the language. we'll see if they follow through. major backlash over president obama's plan to welcome refugees into america.

this is a fox news alert. i'm kelly wright. good evening. two air france flights have been diverted to salt lake city and halifax due to a security issue. we're told the flights landed without further incident and the passengers are now deplaning. one of the air france flights was headed from los angeles to paris. that night was diverted to salt lake city. the other air france flight was headed from washington, d.c., to paris when it was diverted to halifax, nova scotia. we're continuing to follow the developments of this story and waiting for more information to come in, but obviously this heightened time of alert all

over the world because of what happened in paris on friday when isis claimed the attacks on so many innocent people killing 129 there, 352 wounded. 99 of those still in serious and critical condition. we're now seeing that there's a sense of heightened alertness all over the world particularly with air flights since that is something that terrorists have been wanting to target for so long. also unsettling news out of paris at this hour that a second attacker got away following last friday's carnage. a massive manhunt is now under way for that man who was caught on surveillance video at one of the six attack scenes. they're also still looking for salah abdelsalam who french police accidentally permitted to cross into belgium on saturday. one of his brothers blew himself up in paris. meanwhile, both france and russia are now unleashing a new wave of air strikes against isis targets in syria and raqqah to

be exact. coming just hours after the country's security service confirmed there for the first time that a homemade bomb caused a russian passenger plane to crash in egypt. all 224 people, you may recall, aboard the metrojet airbus leaving sharm al-sheikh bound for russia died in that particular downing of that plane. and isis claimed responsibility for that as well. russian president vladimir putin has vowed to have revenge for that. he said the tears will still be close and the sadness will still be close to the hearts of those living in russia, but they will not forget and they will track down those who are responsible for this. again, to recap what's going on at this hour, two air france flights have been diverted to salt lake city and halifax due to a security issue. we are told the flights landed without further incident and the passengers are deplaning.

one of the air france flights was headed from los angeles to paris and was diverted to salt lake city. the other air france flight was headed from washington to paris when it was diverted to halifax, nova scotia. on the line we have a terror expert who can talk to us right now. linda, tell me who i'm talking to. we have a former pilot we can talk to. come in and talk to us about what we can anticipate in this type of situation where we're seeing two planes being diverted? >> hi. well, what i wanted to say is that this doesn't necessarily mean that it is anything exceptionally risky. one of the things they're going to be doing right now is checking the passports and the paperwork of the passengers. and if they go back on these records and find anything at all out of order or anything in their record, what they're going to be doing is exercising extreme scrutiny at this point is what i would say. so it doesn't necessarily mean that there was a bomb threat.

it doesn't necessarily mean that they think there's something on the aircraft, but it could definitely mean that there might be something perhaps in one of the passenger's backgrounds that they want to check out a little more thoroughly. >> tell me what you're thinking as a pilot if you were flying those planes. what would you have done if you thought there was some sort of threat aboard that flight that might be coming from any number of reasons, perhaps a passenger, perhaps some sort of -- something that was suspicious? >> one of the things on a lot of pilot's minds right now, unfortunately, is vladimir putin coming out and saying that he believes now that the metrojet plane that was taken out two weeks ago, that he believes that that was a bomb. now, the egyptian government is still saying, hey, we want to hold out for final tests, but the russians are now saying that they believe there was tnt explosive residue found on some of the bodies and found on some of the suitcases and the luggage they found in the cargo compartment. that news just broke yesterday.

i do think that pilots will be highly aware. there's a lot of people still holding out hope that perhaps that was a mechanical accident. of course, we don't have the full report at this time. that's going to take months. but i think with the russian government coming out saying this, there's going to be on a lot of pilots' minds and they'll exercise extreme caution at this time. but i think for the most part pilots take this somewhat good natu naturedly. we thnd here in america that we have exceptional security. and they don't have much concerns at least flying domestically. >> that's something that would certainly be cause for some relief. but at this hour we still don't know the nature of the security threat. for those of you just joining us, i'm talking to kathleen banks, former pilot. there's news coming now that two planes have been diverted. they were air france planes. one was actually taking off from washington going to paris. it was diverted to nova scotia.

second plane was diverted to salt lake city. it was flying from los angeles. and kathleen, again you're saying that this is something that the public should be feeling good about because of the fact that we were able to respond quickly? >> yes. and i can also say that when the iraqi wars broke out, we had some similar things that right as we got close to war or whether there was tension in the war going on, all of a sudden we had a lot more flights of being grounded or flights being diverted because of fears of terrorism. so a lot of times what it is is it could essentially be something as simple as a paperwork where someone looked into the background of some of the passengers, maybe somebody made a phone call, that sort of thing. because there's so much extra scrutiny going on right now. i don't think that it's something that somebody should panic about or be afraid to fly especially here in the u.s. >> i don't think that's the case that people are panicking. certainly if our faa as well as our tsa are doing their jobs,

there would be no need to panic, especially if they're watching very closely to see what's going on and diverting these two planes because of a security question. we'll find out exactly what's going on once the information is made available. but as you mention, they're probably questioning those who are deplaning at this hour, is that right? >> i would think that right now that might be one of the major concerns is they're going to look over who is on board that aircraft, whether they got a phone call regarding somebody on the flight, whether they got a tipoff or did extra scrutiny on the passports or the backgrounds of the passengers, that alone would be reason for them -- and again, it could be something else, though, that has nothing to do with that flight, per se, being in any danger. it could be someone trying to get into france and that when they ran them intocomputer s they found something that snagged, no, this person isn't going to make it, thissy have some type of terrorist connection. >> what do you go through as a pilot when you realize that perhaps there's a question mark

about something and -- i don't want you to give away what you have to do. >> no, i have been in that situation where somebody thought it was funny on a box of tissues where they wrote "bomb on board." so when a person went to get a tissue, the next one they pulled out said, "bomb on board." and that gets your attention. pilots are trained for this, they're pretty cool. they generally plan for the worst but always assume and hope for the best. so i don't think the flight crews are probably experiencing too much tension about this. they know that most likely security's going to be -- >> we thank you for that information.

now, the passengers, that is. we'll be joined by sal langonia, an aviation expert. we're still waiting to get more information about what caused these two air france flights to be diverted obviously because of air france and what's unfolding in paris, france, many people would likely be concerned about a security issue as a result. and some sort of tear threat that could have happened. >> at this point, the idea that one of the planes was heading to paris certainly makes it suspect. but i think we can probably figure that almost anything that happens on board now that has any idea of disrupting the flight crew or the cabin crew will be looked upon with heightened scrutiny. and you may see even maybe a little overreaction if something minor happens on board. >> that makes perfectly good sense that there might be

overreaction particularly when it says air france. the pilots themselves could be very sensitive and super, superconcerned about what is going on in terms of their planes. coupled with the fact that isis has continued to take claim for what took place there in paris, france. 129 people killed in soft targets. certainly, air aviation is something isis tried to target before, taking credit for what took place with the russian metro jet plane that crashed. all 224 people aboard dying as result of that. that coming down over the sinai peninsula. so it makes good sense if something is going on that is questionable, you want to alert authorities. that is what happened with this flight. >> yes. and i think you know, it's that said, we should make sure we're
