apparently still hiding out surrounded by police in an apartment building. amy kellogg is live in paris with the very latest. good morning, latest. good morning, amy. >> hi heather and >> reporter: hi heather and ana. it is an active police raid. this could be the final showdown, the final standoff in terms of the hunt for the people who were behind the terrorist attacks here on friday. they had a violent response clearly expected to the police raids that started at 4:30 this morning. six people thought to have been originally holed up the apartment in the suburb of paris, the target is said to be believed to be abdelhamid abud the mastermind of the terrorist attacks friday.
2:01 am
abdeslam managed to get into belgium and and possibly back to froons. female suicide bomber blew herself up when police stormed the building. police have arrested three people. this is a commercial part of town, a primary school in the building, there are shops. inju. he looked like a special operations officer all suited in back with a mask on. five police officers have been injured in this raid which is still very much ongoing. although it has been quiet in terms of the gunfire and explosions for the last couple of hours. it has been really a horrifying night for the people in that neighborhood with explosions and

gunfire going on for an hour at a time. this is something people simply anywhere outside of a war zone would not be accustomed to. for the frefrp it will be a relief once this is over. but it is not over. there's a real danger, particularly to the police officers who are trying to dislodge, preferably alive, the last suspect who is hold up. last night there was also an alert there may have been a 9th person. there was originally 8 suspected of being the attackers. she spoke about a knife. he or she may also be in the building. they don't know exactly who is there and who may have died and if there were other people involved in the incredibly well coordinated series of attacks on friday. there have been reports all week iraqi officials believe 19 attackers were involved. if you take down nine then there

are 10 more. a lot of people just suspect there has to have been more people involved. abdelhamid abaaoud from brussel originally but said to have been in and out of syria since 2013 is someone who has been wanted by the united states and by the europeans. it would be incredible if he managed to slip back into france and be in that building under siege right now. that would say a lot about the ease of which some of these jihadists are moving. that straikes neafear into the hearts of parisians as it does in the hearts of why ever one when they see the terrorism spreading across europe and now the latest threats of course being in the united states. again, very serious ongoing raid well one of the targets that was involved in the attack on friday. it is not clear who is in the

flights from the u.s. to paris were diverted because of bomb threats. >> good morning to you. these threats come the same day russian officials confirm terrorist bomb the passenger claimed the crash in egypt more than two weeks ago. late last night two air france flights were diverted along with anonymous bomb threats from called in. the first flight heading from los angeles to paris with 400 crew and passengers on board. a passenger recording the moment everyone was evacuated. hours later another bomb threat forced an air france plane to make an emergency landing in halifax, nova scotia. dulles airport to paris had 298 people on board. both planes were searched and cleared. they are looking into whether the bomb threats were made by the same person. no arrests have been made.
2:06 am
the scares didn't stop there. four middle eastern passengers were pulled off of a spirit airlines plane at washing to international airport. a female passenger became suspicious of a man watching the news on his phone while the plane was taxiing. she alerted crew members grabbed her daughter and moved to the back of the plane. >> i am very thankful if there was an actual threat or if someone believed tlz an actual threat not out of paranoia but original belief i am fine with the if a kt that we stopped and made it here safely. >> the chicago plane went on home safely. that woman was saying if you see something, say something. that's a look at what was going on with those particular planes. >> kelly wright thank you so much for that. two minutes after the hour --

>> i think we are going to go to greg palkot who was standing by. you have mappaged to get about a block away from the scene. authorities moving you out of harm's way understandably for your safety and the safety of everyone on the ground in paris or outside of paris first and foremost. what dow to tell us now? >> we believe we are about a block and a half away, maybe if you are going to believe the police, the man responsible for all of the carnage in paris friday night. i am going to step aside let my camera zoom in on what we are seeing. what we are seeing is a line of police vans, that wall of vehicles about 7 of them strong end to end is basically guarding us or is between what could be another major operation that we are hearing about is set to go off or happening right now. the apartment building where it
2:08 am
is believed one ter rits is hold up is just down that street on the right-hand side. there's major boulevards here there's one block a shopping street after that and it's on the right side. to recap quickly, the scene here we have been here about an hour and a half. frankly, it has been pretty quiet here right now. i described it earlier it's the calm after the storm and maybe before the storm. because at 4:20 a.m. a suburban but urban area just outside of paris there was an hour long shootout with explosions, ak-47 fire, automatic weapons, stun grenades, you name it, there is a war in what was otherwise a fairly peaceful but bustling area on the outskirts of paris. the toll from that and it has been changing over the past hour or so, the terrorist is dead a
2:09 am
woman with a suicide vest killing herself and another is believed killed by a police sniper. on the other side five policemen were injured. it was a major shootout and the policemen were actually surprised the amount of fire going on at them around that building and had to back off. five suspected terrorists were detained. the one person we believe left there we don't know quite who he is but it is suspected possibly abdelhamid abaaoud, we and all of the rest of the media have been reporting is sitting at the capitol of the isis terror group the mastermind of the attacks. if it is true that he is here, right in paris it would be
2:10 am
incredible. we must caution, we do not know if that is correct or not. we could find out. yes, the man responsible for killing 129 people in paris could be sitting in an apartment building a block and a half from where we are standing right now. we will have to see. the later development we have been hearing from french media sometimes reliable anyway is that a second operation is underway. if that's the case, it must be a very quiet operation, because we frankly are not seeing or hearing anything. butt other interesting report, routers, police sources and others is that a possible new attack against paris was possib possibly thwarted by this raid. there are reports saying terrorists associated with isis were planning to attack an area that in english reads like defense. what it is is a business area on
2:11 am
the outskirts of paris on the western side. there's a lot of sky skrarps there. there's nonin the center of paris. a lot of corporate headquarters. frankly. i hate to be grim about this it would be equivalent of hitting oh you are wall street or for example it would be the equivalent for hitting the world trade center for these terrorists. there are reports a major new attack against paris could have been headed off by this raid. was this mastermind of friday night's raid also involved in that? could be. we are piecing it together right now. let me paint the scene now that we have gone through the toll and the operation. i don't know every city in america. if you know monew york it's kin of like queens. it is urban but not skyscrapers. oakland if you are in san francisco, los angeles. i could go on.
2:12 am
basically it's an area that right at this moment, what's the moment? right at 11:11 on a wednesday morning here in paris this would be bustling, there would be hoards of traffic, people chopping. it is the center of this area. no one is here. the people in the immediate buildings around the targeted apartment building have been evacuated. everyone wills told to stay inside. there's nothing moving except police vehicles. here police, special force -- they call them special force police. anti-terrorism i would believe and soldiers, too. in the last few shots we were looking at heavily armed soldiers now we are looking at police. >> greg, you mentioned it is a suburb like any suburb of any marge metropolitan area in the united states. we had walid fair res on

earlier. they are not learning the language or the culture, there's high unemployment. disenchantment there in the area. hark ens back to 2005 where there was the awful violence there and police cars were burning and the damage wausz unbelievable in that area as well. >> ann, i would describe this area as working class, as commercial working class. again it's not the chic its area in the world but it is a good place for a couple of terror suspects to fit in and not be seen. >> i want to mention what we are looking a right now. are these live pictures? had these are lye pictures from the scene. if you are watching with us you may have seen what appear to be
2:14 am
bomb technicians. you can see right there two individuals dressed in white. those would be i believe bomb technicians being called to the scene possibly heading there to hopefully they are able to get inside and -- >> following what they call an hour of war is what neighbors have called it bh there are multiple explosions going off and ak-47's and the one terrorist that is dead one of the two apparently was in some sort of suicide vest dead nated that and blew hur self up the other terrorist was killed by police. >> as a result of all of this the complete neighborhood, they are completely on lock down. the area has been have beening waited they have been taken to a safe location. all of the entire town being told to stay inside until the situation is resolved. once again we know at this point in terms of numbers if you want
2:15 am
to take a look at this. we have two people who were terrorists who were dead one of which was a woman as anna just said who blue herself up outside. another terrorist allegedly shot by a sniper. the mastermind of it all abdelhamid abaaoud is inside. there was believed there was another one. i believe we have waleed phares on the phone. he is one of our terrorism experts. are you there? >> yes. >> they believed abaaoud was in syria pulling the springs and giving the directions from there. he is indeed the mastermind behind these terrorist attacks that happened on friday the 13th killing 129 and injuring 350
2:16 am
others, but they believe he is in this apartment that has been surrounded by police and they have had this raid going on overnight. how significant is it if they are able to neutralize him and take him down for this entire war on terror? he's an operational leader but now significant is he? >> it is significant. any arrest is important especially inside paris. let me build on what greg palkot just said. very important. over the past five or six-hours we were wondering we were raising the issue, analysts discussing the matter why is it that this man and others including now the women, there was a whom who killed herself, it was a suicide, why did they not flee paris? why did they gather? is the answer now according to the assessment coming from france is most likely they wanted to perform another

operation inside paris. s in likely in line that they have pretempted. this is why they need to close. they would hope to arrest him. >> these guys are not afraid to die. they are not afraid to die and go to heaven and have all of these virgins and be a jihadi. is there a threat he will blow himself up, too or is he want to go stay alive planning the awful attacks. >> you can see on the screen the two men with the white uniforms the bomb specialists, of course. the standard technique of isis
2:18 am
is not to surrender. he is in operational leader. he cannot image he would go down as french ougauthorities. they may use gas or whatever. i don't know about that. >> this particular attack that happened on friday, friday the 13th was different in that we had eight assailants possibly nine. they announced we were looking for a nine-th last night and three different death squads it would appear coordinated at the same time. so is that what you believe will be the continued motortis op ran day so to speak of these terrorists? >> look at where they performed the attacks it is north close to the river all of the way up to

2:20 am
this. >> the comparison was right on. this was a mumbai number 2 or an improved mumbai because of the type of operation, because of the track they sent to multiple targets. mumbai was one target but they are multiple targets. government and private sectors around the world are viewed now to what is happening along with the second operation happening right now. >> i want to get your take on this, too. we have had house committee chairman michael mccall on fox and friends the last day or two mentioning there are open cases, investigations against isis in all 50 states. so of course our viewers are waking up this morning and feeling for our friends in france. what did the threats here at home. >> when we look at the screen we're at now and what happened in paris a few days ago we see the mode disoperandi of isis.
2:21 am
we see the video of isis including one which threatened washington, d.c. where i am right now. th that has been taken very seriously. the homeland security and congressional leaders have warned the american public isis is operational in all 50 states. the most important states. to issue is to mobilize and educate and inform the public. the public would make a big different. the public can itself perform if you see something, say something, that's the major ally in this campaign. >> all right. walid phares joining us on the phone. appreciate your expertise in situations like this. we will check back with you. >> greg palkot now is in

sandenie one block from where this is all escalating. what information do you have? >> some interesting information, anna and heather, if it is true the operation is over. our sky news team, our sister team in london also here along side us hasn't speak ento security officials on the scene and they have given them the word it is finished. there is no more operation going on in an active, proactive aggressive way. >> we don't have this confirmed with police. i am not saying 1 money percent that is true. the aggressive part. the attack part according to oo security force has said that it is over. as you noted about 10 minutes ago it is not over. hold on for one minute.
2:23 am
sky news updating that information. perhaps the aggressive part is over but the operation we cannot say is ore. the forensic teams are inside the building they are going into the building. one woman terror suspect has decimated h -- decimated hersel. another terror suspect was shot and killed by a police sniper. five other terror suspects were detained. it is oh you are belief there was one more individual inside. it was a hope perhaps of police who describe this operation as one aimed at possibly getting the mastermind of the paris attacks, abdelhamid abaaoud, that he might have been the one in there. but that -- we have to wait and
2:24 am
see what happens with that. we had to wait to see what happens with this operation. overall it appears that the confrontational aspect of this operation could be over. i want to couch that. again i am not going with that. i heard reports of that that now the forensic part of this operation could continue. there could be booby traps and other explosives inside but the tenor of the operation. a little more relaxed than what we saw an hour ago. pulling back from our earlier position about 2 blocks away also indicated a slight relaxati relaxation. >> we wanted to investigate on

what we are looking at. crowd of investigators police, soldiers and special ops it did grow. moments ago you can see a steady stream of the individuals, what was presumably be marching in to that particular apartment several of them i would say at least a dozen streamed inside including the forensic teams. i assumed some of those individuals and what we referred to earlier walid phares referred to some of the bomb technicians. a large number of the authorities there on the scene have entered what we believe to be the apartment. >> also there were hearings that 7 terror suspects have now been arrested. not just 5. that number has gong u -- gone up. want to let you know this raid happened as lawen forcement was

the confrontational aspect, the attack aspect of this operation and now one of the terrorists killed herself with a suicide vest. the concern is there could be more of the vests there or booby traps there. this building is being treated with a great deal of caution. to rundown the numbers for you at the moment, again, two terror suspects dead, one killed herself and another we believe killed by a police sniper. the latest we are getting which you have just reported seven terror suspects detained, several from that building. five policemen injured. that was in a massive fusillade

an attack that ran from 4:20 i am told about 7:30. that was a major part of the operation. i am not going to call it mop up. it is a very vulnerable a very particular situation right now at the building. according to aft, respected french news agency in their words the confrontational aspect of the operation is over. the big question is we have been reporting others have been reporting the target of this operation was the alleged mastermind which left 129 people dead in multiple terror attacks across paris. it is believed the man behind that is ab bell hamid abaaoud
