plans despite growing fears of a terror attack. kristin fisher is live in washington, d.c. with the nation on edge this morning. >> reporter: good morning. and for this nearly 50 million americans expected to travel over the thanksgiving holiday, it's hard not to at least think about the possibility of a paris-style terror attack happening here. and indeed, 56% of the people polled say they think it is very likely that islamic terrorists are try to launch an attack on u.s. soil soon. and terror is also the number one issue for voters. yesterday the secretary of homeland security urged americans not to change their plans over the thanksgiving holiday. >> we have no specific credible intelligence about a threat of the paris type directed at the homeland here. and so we want the american public to know that we're on the job, we're vigilant and we're continually reevaluating our security posture. >> case in point, this massive

burglary after receipt from amanda's atm card were found in their car. 16 people including several teenager shot overnight at a new orleans park. police say that about 500 people illegally gathered for a block party to film a music video when a dispute escalated into a shooting. witnesses say that several people had guns and then they opened fire on each other. no arrests have been made. all the victims are in stable condition. trump coming out on top again. a new fox poll shows that trump's lead widening, marco rubio and ted cruz threaten to take ben carson's number two spot. the neurosurgeon dropped five points in three weeks, the most out of any candidate. and another poll rubio beating hillary clinton by a wide margin in a hypothetical head to head match-up. this is the first time a poll has ever shown rubio beating the democratic frontrunner.

to extreme weather now. the midwest in the deep freeze, the first major snowstorm of the season bringing tons of snow and single digit temperatures to the region. nearly a foot a of snow fell around chicago and its suburbs. the white stuff downing trees there and more than 150 flights at the o'hare airport were canaca cancel canceled. maria has what is happening next. >> it will be a busy travel week for many americans. we have the thanksgiving holiday and it looks like the weather will be relatively quiet, so that is welcome you news across parts of the midwest and eastern u.s. for many of you, you're looking at some of the coldest temperatures that you've seen so far this season. you can see in atlanta you're right at the freezing mark at 32 degrees. you're at 30 in memphis. and we have the freeze warnings in effect all the way down to the gulf coast, some of those temperatures along the gulf coast quite chilly, as well. mobile, alabama currently 34 degrees out there. and taking a look at the radar, you see we still have lingering

all captured on video cameras. here is the shocking view of what happened. it all began with this man dragging an unconscious woman down the street. a good samaritan gets out to help the woman in distress. the man, peter gold, a fourth year medical student at tulane university. the other man lets go of the woman, pulls out a gun and demands money from gold. when gold says he doesn't have any, the man shoots him in the stomach, the gun man then tries to shoot gold again, aiming for his head. but the gun jams. the gunman tries again. but the gun jams again. eventually that man gets in a car and speeds away leaving gold bleeding on the sidewalk. >> the guy with the gun shoots the guy in the stomach. he attempted to shoot him it looked like in the face a couple

still not found by the way, the most wanted man so-called eighth attacker from the paris terrorist attacks, salah abdeslam, he was not one of those arrested overnight, but police will not confirm one report that he was in a bmw headed towards germany overnight. here in france, police are psyching more information from the france about one of the three suicide bombers at that soccer stadium a week ago friday. two in fact of the bombers are believed to have used a face passport to come in as a refugee from turkey into europe. and finally uk prime minister david cameron wrapping up a meeting with with french president hollande. they paid respects at that music hall where 89 mostly young people died in the carnage. he pledged solidarity with france in its fight against isis, in his word, we have shown our firm resolve and we will destroy this evil threat.

and also parts of the fufl coast where we currently have freeze washings in effect. birmingham, 28 degrees. you're at 34 in mobile, alabama. and 30 in macon, georgia. so again, very cold out there even across the southeastern u.s. but as far as snow, lingering snow across the drat lakes and parts of maine this morning, but in the southeast and the great plain, are you quiet this morning. and it's forecast to stay that way at least here for the next day or so. but across parts of the western u.s., that is where it will be busy. we have an incoming storm system forecast to bring snow across parts of the pacific northwest and cascades tonight and eventually that moves in to california and also into the northern rockies by the time we head into tuesday morning, where winter storm watches are in effect. it will be very busy for travel for the beginning of thanksgiving week. we'll keep a close watch on it. blustery winds are also forecast with this storm system.
