community policing a decade? >> it has across the country a decade. no justification for what the officer did. i have spoken to law enforcement neven though the kid had a combiechlt >> he had a knife and he was not threatening at all. he was walking away from the police. the other officers didn't shoot. you don't pump 15 other shots on a person on the ground. >> why does that happen? is that rage from the officer? >> it is it's good question and only answered if you find multiple complaints over the officer. what the police department is going to have to do is look at
10:08 am
his track record. >> most police never fire their weapon in a course of a career. >> they are well trained to defuse situations like this. if the kid was attacking the cop and felt threatened, they would use necessary force. you are trained to use necessary force but not kill. >> is more training the answer? >> training is always part of the answer. but if you have a officer and i believe in this case, there were issues regarding the officer going back over his career. the answer is regarding officers, psychological testing periodically if there is a troubling pattern. >> look at a story very much in the news over the weekend. the planned parenthood shootings in colorado springs. the suspect robert dear makes
10:09 am
first court appearance via video link and police are playing this one very close. we heard statements that the guy dear may have made but police are not releasing information about the murder weapon and sealing the warrants and not providing information on the weapon or a time line of events or the motive of the suspect. why such a tight lid on the security. >> they probably have information regarding the background on the individual that they are regular willing to give us. the investigation is ongoing. everyone has to stop finger pointing and start uniting it and not dividing it. no political people are bad but he is the bad guy. >> he was a loner and some what troubled, and yet there are people on both sides.
10:10 am
equation that are using as a political issue, i guess to make a point. >> they are. a police officer was killed and two other civilians were killed. this is not a political problem but an american problem. we'll find in the course of this investigation there was red flags. somebody sees or hears something and they don't say anything. it is high time we speak out. >> that is a point and bearing reminding when something like this comes up. they will step forward and i knew he was kind of odd and he threatened to do this in the past. these things can be prevented. >> they can be. it goes back to community policing. >> you have them walking the neighborhoods and interaccounting with people. they would know this guy and
10:11 am
know his behavior and do something about it before tragedy happens. >> and a new book revealing startling details. it is more than a million spent on a robot to get addressed. he joins us live, next. who wants to try? before earning enough cash back from bank of america

10:19 am
a belief they are unachievable. whether it is administration or new legislation. and identify some areas where there is a progress. the department of justice reducing the spending two-thirds. and there is tremendous amount of waste in the system. and identified regulations where the government is beyond the bounds. >> i like to talk to you, senator, you served as the lead of the largest youth camp. i think there are interesting p parallels. >> a lot of juveniles in both. >> and see the timing is important. we have a show down happening as far as keeping the government open and funded. how do you see the next several
10:20 am
weeks playingçó out and filing t in your report to make sure the american people get a better deal? >> key thing is oversight from congress and identify where is wasteful spending and get rid of it. you are taking last year's waste and jumping it in the next year. you are findingia areas. and government will not be efficient as a business and make it more transparent and outside groups and every american and media can see how the money is spent. and make sure that government works best when it's local. get things out of the federal government and get it back to the states. and see get it back to the states and get it more transparent. >> we'll continue to look through the book. it is it on line for the viewers

jeb bufrom our president:h you will not hear we are at war with radical islamic terrorism. it is the struggle that will determine the fate of the free world. the united states should not delay in leading a global coalition to take out isis with overwhelming force. their aim is our total destruction. we can't withdraw from this threat or negotiate with it. we have but one choice:

to defeat it. vo: right to rise usa is responsible for the content of this message. ok, wehere's dad. mom. the twins. aunt alice... you didn't tell me aunt alice was coming. of course. don't forget grandpa. can the test drive be over now? maybe just head back to the dealership? don't you want to meet my family? yep, totally. it's practically yours, but we still need your signature. hurry in for great deals all black friday weekend on select new volkswagen models during the sign- then-drive event.

it's gotten squarer. over the years. brighter. bigger. thinner. even curvier. but what's next? for all binge watchers. movie geeks. sports freaks. x1 from xfinity will change the way you experience tv. >> right now, first of six police officers on charge for the death of freddie ray. the officer in the top center is
10:25 am
charged with involuntarily manslaughter. and 25-year-old gray suffered a spinal injury. his death sparked riots across baltimore that we all remember. a lot of interesting pieces to this. the first big one is about the venue and whether or not the officer can get a fair trial. what do you think about that? >> remember, the test is not whether they have heard or formed an opinion. it is whether they can set it all aside and base a fair can impartial decision on what they hear inside of the courtroom. >> o.j. simpson said i was acquitted and we kept the venue in los angeles. the reverse with the rodney king defendants. they were acquitted. and they were convicted kwh the
10:26 am
venue was returned to los angeles. it cuts both ways. >> it is set up for an appeal. >> it is always in an appeal. >> this officer, when we learned that the officers were to be charged separately and not as a group how was he getting chosen to go first? >> it is a mystery and to me as a mistake. he had nothing to do with the arrest or putting freddie gray in the hand. there is considerable evidence that hey helped freddie gray. of all of the people to go first, it doesn't make a lot of sense. marry lanmosley whoxd is the prosecutor mishandled. claiming murder before she knew the facts. and for this porter gets charged
10:27 am
with a bunch of crimes. a lot of them. and what hurts mosley's case. the fatal spinal injury happen when gray stop up despite the leg restraints. that undermines mosby's case. >> i want to ask you about the officer. how in the trial impact what happens to the other officers? , does this set the precedent. if he is found not getting. would the others be found not guilty. >> it depends on what he said. who else is going to defend the officer than the officer himself?
10:28 am
but he may impliicate. >> would you want to be the first to tell your story. >> if i am william porter i would want to go first. i would say i didn't nothing wrong. my guess he is not going to point the finger of blame. my guess he will go with the medical examiner. but for the actions of freddie gray, he would will be alive today. >> what about the time line of all of this? and as far as finding justice and what does a resolution look like for this case and others charged? >> it is hard to say. it is such a powder key in this city. and anything can happen. a lot will depend on what will happen to william porter and the first trial. there will be six different
10:29 am
trials and they are some what different and it is really hard to say. >> it starts today. jon. >> american contractor allen gross speaking out after five long years in cuba prisan. our guest said it is a terrible precedent. and unlooking a mystery. and why there may be a hidden burial chamber of egyptian queen neph atiti. this is claira.

nev >> american allen gross speaking out for the first time about his imprisonment in cub a. he set up internet connections when he was arrested for allegedly spying in 2009. we followed his plight. this is what his wife told me about the prison conditions. >> i know his cell is tiny and he shares with two other. the lights are on 24 hours a day and a lot of times no water. things crawl nothing his food and it was difficult for him. >> it was a full year before his release. and gross said he first thought he would be freed in a matter of
10:34 am
a week or see. >> did you think in the early days, boy, the u.s. government will get me out of here in a week or see? >> i did after the two weeks. and then i said to myself. where are they? i figured. i didn't have any idea i would be there five years. i knew i was in trouble. >> and he has a great sense of humor. you saw that with the sprue with scott pelly. he was released and then shortly after that diplomatic relations were established between our two countries. and see rick, we are learning about the circumstances of allen gross's imprisonment and what took him out. what is notable to you about the process?
10:35 am
>> these are the types of things that happen and we don't want to appear and sound too callous. when you work overseas this is what happens. we want to be empathetic to families who haveñi family membs kept against their will. with the alep grossuation and bergdahl, we have seen the obama administration formalize the discussion about host amg. there is a presidential envoy for hostage affairs. this is an appointment at the state department and they have a full bureau of host amg affairs where they work on hostage affairs. this is dangerous. congress should step in and
10:36 am
crush this. >> why rick? >> there doesn't need to be i[pit says to syria and to cubad iran and hesbollah and isis. grab an american and negotiate with the state department. and tell them what you want and what promise to be changed. it is it a dangerous slippery slope that the administration doesn't seem to find a problem. >> allen gross and bergdahl are different situations. but to get the americans back home, a prisoner swap was used. we are hearing that from the iranians. if you want jason, we want x number of iranians back.
10:37 am
what will it take to get americans who are in prison back home? >> it means that the u.s. government is open for business when it comes to hostage swaps and deal making and having the special envoy for hostage affairs with a formal office in the state department is a dangerous idea. you are right. jason's case and allen's casexd and bergdahl case are all different. i worked on several. grace and mat whang they got in trouble with the qa ta ri government. they should hire ñinonu.s. government officials. there are expert organizations that know how to deal with this.
10:38 am
>> i am curious about the other option. we have talked to their wives on the show. she just wanted her loved one home. if that was my husband, i would give anything. and so if that is what it takes or a ransome. that's what you would like to do. if you are not the u.s. government you can't release the prisoners. what are the options? >> families having the flexibility may pay cansome. i think it is a bad idea. you can't prejudge what a family will do. they are not thinking of about what means for others. we get that. let's give them the flexibility to do what they do. hire the
10:39 am
proper experts free and clear of the policy that the u.s. government would make about a hostage ransom or prisoner swap. let individuals do what they want to do. by the way, they may pressure the government to make statements and to do certain things. it shouldn't be that the government is in charge. >> it doesn't feel like the family has a leverage. what do politics have to play in all of this? we have seen it involved in with the taliban. and releasing bergdahl and we wanted diplomatic relations and the u.s. government or this administration opened diplomatic relations from cuba. that's what they want in iran. we have seen the nuclear deal and department of reaches.
10:40 am
and see what do politics play in all of this? what does it mean for the families with loved ones overseas in prison? >> it is it less political and more policy changes. but the other governments want a change in the u.s. policy. and the u.s. will be pressured to do it. the media has a big role to plai here. certain individuals on the today show or fox the public gets out raged and politicians are moved by media or public outrage. the u.s. needs to resist the idea of formalizing and taking control. let the families and help the families. work with the fbi to do secret help. >> you think it is too late?
10:41 am
is it already too late at this point under this administration. >> such a good question and it is the first day in office for the new president. they should announce the hostage envoy, we are getting rid of the whole bureau in the state department and no longer formalize or negotiate to do prisoner swaps and stick to it. >> appreciate your expertise on this. >> thanks, jenna. >> it could solve a big mystery of the ancient world. researcherses in egypt on the verge of finding the tomb of nefertiti. they have scanned the walls of the tomb of king tut. but they came across a secret wall.
10:42 am
>> it is in this instance. behind the painted chamber west and north walls. it looks as if one of these may lead to a burial. in the painted decorations, and remains undisturbed. >> another clue to believe that nefertiti's tom might be be in the wall. that gold mask might have been originally made for a woman. fire in a homeowner's fireplace might have prevented a burglar. and amazon and the website. how to make faster deliveries

10:48 am
delivery. we do see a slow down in the brick and mortar stores. >> it looks like it. i guess there is a new hybrid drone that amazon unveiled but has hurdles to get cross? >> that's right. a new prototype was unveiled and could pick up the package and drop it in your backyard. the issue is faa and federal government not allowing use just yet. we have seen progress for individual drone user. but it is it still several years away. they are pushing ahead to bring in the drones in your neighborhood. >> as a pilot not crazy about it

from time to time. nothing like this. >> police say the 19-year-old man died of smoke inhalation and burns. well, immigrants are in this country illegally, should they be allowed to drive legally? a group of oregon thinks so and they're suing to overthrow a law that outlaws licenses for illegal immigrants. their main argument is that it hurts immigrants' chances of finding jobs. dan springer is live in portland with the latest. >> legal experts say this lawsuit is a long shot. two-thirds of oregon voters rejected the law giving licenses to illegal immigrants. it was a referendum on a law passed by the state legislature. the campaign against the driver's licenses they say was racist and aimed at hurting a powerless minority group, specifically illegals from mexico and central america. the other argument they're using is the state doesn't have hey legitimate reason for denying illegal immigrants to the ability to drive in oregon.
10:55 am
we spoke with an immigrant who's been driving in the u.s. without a license for 27 years. >> if it's i wi ae's legal to g driver's license, there's more opportunities to find a job as a driver. you know, to move around the city with confidence. >> but a vast majority of the country disagrees. 40 states require legal proof of residency before issuing a driver's license. in oregon, a blue state, 35 of 36 counties voted to prevent 9ñ oregonians for immigration reform led the effort. leaders say it wasn't about race but, rather, jobs, national security and m4oáwhat's right. >> there is no inherent right for somebody that's here illegally to be able to get a driver's license. that isn't a constitutional right. they don't deserve it because they made it here illegally. >> a recent study concluded illegal immigration costs
