page. we look forward to hearing from you on all the media about what you thought about the show today. we're back here next sunday as we are every sunday 11:00 and 5:00 eastern with the latest buzz. fox news alert. a false alarm. that is the word from french air authorities now trying to get to the bottom of a suspicious package on board a paris pif bound plane that had to be diverted midflight. hello, everyone. i'm arthel neville. >> hello, i'm eric shawn. investigators say it was cardboard, paper and a timer all found in one of the plane's lavatories by a passenger who says he noticed something that looked like a, quote, stop watch mounted on a box. it all happened aboard the air france boeing 777. investigators reportedly questioning six passengers on
9:01 am
board while the air france ceo calling what was found a fake bomb. paul tilzly is in johannesburg, south africa, with the latest on the story. hi, paul. >> reporter: eric, i've seen a picture of the dummy bomb and it looks real. there's a large clock on the top and wires going from what looks to be several sticks of explosives taped together. n analysts are already asking how could something that is such a fake bomb on board a european airliner make it on the plane from a supposedly sophisticated airport? is this a prank, or is this a dummy run by terrorists? the flight had come are from overnight to paris from ma rishs. one passenger reported aid suspicious package in a bathroom. police -- the pilots reported
9:02 am
asking for an emergency landing and 4 fwain passengers and 14 crew managed to use the emergency chutes to escape the airplane craft. no one was injured. a bomb disposal unit removed the package. six peeng passengers are being questioned. this was a french plane coming from a resort island popular with french tourists. the plane was en route to paris. the question analysts are asking now is, was this a stupid prank or a trial run by isis? targeting french interests again? because of france's interest in syria and their attacks there. the french national prosecutor is considering investigating what really happened today and why. it's serious, eric. >> it certainly is. paul, thank you so much. of course two air france flights from the u.s. to paris had bomb scares last month. thankfully kno thankfully nothing was found. now to another fox news alert here at home. democratic presidential

candidates bernie sanders and hillary clinton trying to move past a breach of her campaign's voter data. last night's debate in new hampshire instead focusing once again on national security. americans' height ped fears of terrorists and the economist. ed henry was there, live now from manchester, new hampshire. ed, i understand that some are questioning hillary's remarks on isis. >> reporter: that's right. good morning, arthel. it's interesting because hillary clinton made this direct charge against donald trump about isis. i'll get there in a second. she also claimed that our strategy now is in place to work, that with we are in a good place now in terms of the strategy with isis. that raised a lot of eyebrows, given president obama's struggles right now in trying to defeat isis. her staff is trying to clarify that clinton was referring to a u.n. resolution to try to seek a political resolution in syria.
9:04 am
but the fact of the matter is, in terms of isis strategy, there's obviously a long road to go. she also tried to go on offense by, as i mentioned, attacking donald trump and claiming that isis is now using videos of trump to recruit. donald trump fired back on "fox and friends." listen. >> mr. trump has a great capacity to use bluster andyfbñ bigotry to inflame people and to make them think there are easy answers to very complex questions. he is becoming isis' best recruiter. >> it turned out to be a very big pinocchio. turned out to be a lie. it's a total lie, ridiculous. she make it's up and she makes a lot of things up. >> on some of the sunday talk shows, clinton aides were pressed on whether the former secretary of state was referring to a specific video that isis is using to recruit off of donald trump's comments. they say she wasn't referring to
9:05 am
a specific video. she was talking about social media where the trump comments they claim are helping isis. >> so leading up to the debate, ed, there was a lot of hyperbole about how bernie and hillary were going to clash over the data breach but apparently that didn't really happen. >> reporter: it really kind of fizzled out. bernie sanders, he has been leading here in new hampshire, but has been struggling nationally against the democratic front-runner. there was a lot of talk the gloves would come off, bernie sanders mad the dnc cut him off to access to the voter database because of charges that his staff was in database as peeking into the clinton playbook instead of staying in the general area open to all democratic campaigns. he quickly tried to put all of this behind him last night. listen. >> does secretary clinton deserve an apology tonight? >> yes. i apologize. >> secretary clinton, do you
9:06 am
accept? >> not only do i apologize to secretary clinton and i hope we can work together on an independent investigation from day one, i want to apologize to my supporters. this is not the type of campaign that we run. >> reminiscent really of the first democratic debate back in las vegas where bernie sanders claimed he didn't care about your, quote, damn a m amn e-ma. some questioned whether that was good for sanders to take that off the table. also a sign that democrats seem to be coddling clinton in some of the cases. last night, a late saturday night debate, justs a few days before christmas. some of those miscues on national security, for example, may not get a lot of attention because people were not tuning in, arthel. >> so the last weekend before christmas. they're all shopping. ed henry, thank you. >> thank you. arthel, in a moment,

ambassador john bolton will analyze mrs. clinton's comments about isis. meanwhile, on the republican side, a new fox poll showing where the and dats stand following their debate. guess what? donald trump is leading by a larger margin that before. at the same time, the candidates there are taking off the gloves going at each other, especially from jeb bush. chr kristin fisher has more. >> not only did bush call trump a jerk. he said it was liberating to attack trump. he showed a more introspective side. >> i hate thad. >> you hated being a front-runner? >> yes. i feel better being back here. >> why did you hate being a front-runner? >> i always felt there would be a high expectation for me and i totally get it. >> because? >> because i have a brother that was president and a father that was president. that higher expectation was
9:08 am
important to realize. >> now trump's the clear front-runner in the republican primary but not so much in a hypothetical general matchup. according to a fox news poll out friday, clinton would now beat trump 49-38. a month ago trump was beating her 46-41. but among republican primary voters, trump has a 39% lead. his closest competitor ted cruz is 21 points behind. marco rubio in third with 11%. everyone else in single digits including carly fiorina. but today she said she was comfortable with her current standing. >> i'm perfectly happy with that position right now, honestly. because when i started this race i was 17 out of 16. the pollsters didn't even ask my name because so few people knew me. frankly, all the pundits and d.c. insiders never thought i'd be standing on the main debate stage. >> as for the rest of the republican field, ben carson and chris christie are in new
9:09 am
hampshire while ted cruz is continuing his swing through the south in alabama. eric? >> kristin, thanks so much. iz rile reportedly takes out one of its most vicious enemies, hezbollah says an israeli air strike killed -- after blasting a residential building in a -- that killed a policeman, a father and his two children. qatar was freed in a hezbollah prisoner exchange with israel in 2008. now back to the presidential race and hillary clinton's comments about isis at the debate last night. she claimed, quote, we now finally are where we need to be when it comes to fighting isis. she says the u.s. now has hey strategy and we should not send ground troops. democratic congress nam adam

shiver says the administration has not done nearly enough. >> the broad outlines of what the president wants to do, the right wynns, it's not going fast enough, the pace is not fast enough. i think we have to look for something to change the dynamic on the ground. for me, that would be in the form of a safe zone or buffer zone or no fly zone. something that can end the refugee flows, something to give space and time to train up forces to take on isis. >> the administration on top of isis or way behind? ambassador john bolton, fox news contributor, joins us as he does every sunday. ambassador, hillary says basically we have isis right where we want them. is that true? >> in her mind i think it's very dangerous to distinguish her position, whatever it is, from barack obama's. i think she wants to stay close to the president. think thai's where she is philosophically. i just think she sees political
9:11 am
hazard in laying out eye different course. that's not that different from what congressman schiff just said. he said we have to do more and be more effective. but the strategy of creating safe zones and training iraqis and syrian opposition forces to go after isis is what the president has been doing. that policy is the policy that's failing. so while people may look for differences among clinton and schiff and obama, it's basically the same policy and not going anywhere. >> mrs. clinton says we should not have ground forces. some special ops like we have now. that would play right into isis' propaganda, their view that the infidels are over there invading muslim lands. >> these are word games. we're worried about terrorist attacks as we've seen in paris, as we've seen in san bernardino, as we fear really across the united states and western europe. so worrying about how isis plays it in the media really is beside
9:12 am
the point. the fact is that isis is providing a territory where terrorists are being trained and indoctrinated and being sent out to the west. i think if you look at her comments and again congressman schiff's, there continues to be this artificial distinction between the terrorists over there, like isis and al qaeda, and the terrorists here. in fact, this is one spectrum of threat as long as people can communicate across broad distances, you can have an effect here directly from isis as these people are trained and come out of what used to be syria and iraq. so the longer isis can consolidate control over the territory it holdsor the greater the threat we face here. >> not over there. here. >> do you think that threat could have been prevented a few years ago if the president had taken more decisive action? chuck hagel had that stinging criticism in foreign policy saying the president lost criticism with the red line
9:13 am
comment. let's listen to a quote from the interview. he says, we don't have a policy and getting this from all of my colleagues from around the world, my counterparts are coming up to me at nato meetings and everywhere saying, what are you doing? where is this going? what does it mean when the world leaders saying, the white house has no idea? >> i think that's the common perception across europe. they've got their own problems, but they certainly don't see barack obama as a leader. i think it's remarkable. if you take the public statement that's have already been made of obama's three former defense secretaries, gates, panetta and now hagel, and lay them side by side, you have a stinging indictment of obama's defense policy. and it hasn't changed over an entire seven-year period and despite rhetoric about how efforts are being intensified against isis, actual operations on the ground have not changed that much either.
9:14 am
so, as long as hillary clinton ais prepared to say she's where we ought to be with respect to isis, i think she's tying herself to obama's policy and i think that's going to be a real problem for her. i think the people are dissatisfied with obama's policy in overwhelming numbers. >> the president has said that the u.s. can't have hundreds of casualties again from another war against isis so that's why he is following the course that he is. this of course -- >> 14 americans died on american soil because of the terrorist attack. we are suffering casualties now. the question is, are we going to suffer them here or worry about dweelting isis over there? >> that is the issue in the campaign. ambassador bolton, thank you. always good to see you. >> thank you, eric. >> arthel? a deadly crash on a major interstate leaving one woman dead and her passenger seriously jurisdiction. we'll tell you what happened. plus, there's a new war of words erupting between hillary clinton and donald trump. we'll have the heated back-and-forth. man, is it getting intense.

crashing into a greyhound bus. a second person in the car sustained serious injuries. 16 people on the bus had minor injuries. wisconsin, a shopping center is reopening there today after a man is shot in the middle of the mall. police say a dispute yesterday led to shots being fired. a 19-year-old was hit in the leg but is expected to recover. investigators are still looking for the shooter. hundreds of mourners gathering at memorial services this weekend for victims of the san bernardino terrorist attack. families of 27-year-old sierra clayborn, 52-year-old nicholas sigh saying find good-byes. will carr is with us. hi, will. >> hey there, eric. as the investigation continues into the radicalized terrorists responsible for 14 people being shot and killed, the community of sarn bernardino and the surrounding areas trying to
9:20 am
concentrate on honoring the victim soz this weekend three more were laid to rest, including sierra clayborn, 27 years old, described as an old soul. her family says she was ambitious and intelligent. then 52-year-old nicholas thalasinos, a jewish man who condemned radical islam and defended israel. on saturday, his pastor said farook threatened him just weeks before the shooting. his wife calling him a martyr. also michael wetzel, a loving husband and father of six was laid to rest. >> he loved that family. he loved those kids. he just was the epitome of a family man, a good man, a supportive human. oh, his faith was strong. their faith is strong. just good. good man. >> while the community was mourning, syed farook's family
9:21 am
including his mother moved possessions out of his apartment in redlands, california. that's the home where authorities say that farook and his wife tashfeen malik plotted and put together more than a dozen pipe bombs, also where they were 6-month-old baby who's now in state custody. looking ahead, the only person charged in connection with the terror attack enrique marquez is set to appear in federal court tomorrow where a judge will decide on bail. you may remember that marquez is the one who authorities say bought the ar-15s used in the shootings. fe's convicted of the most serious charge, eric, he could face up to 25 years in federal prison. >> will, the three victims of radical islamic terrorism right here at home. thank you. back to politics now. hillary clinton spending much of last night's democratic debate taking aim not at her rivals for the nomination but at gop front-runner donald trump who of course wasn't even on stage.
9:22 am
clinton taking a hard stance against some of trump's rhetoric, in particular his recent comments about temporarily banning foreign muslims from entering the u.s. >> he is becoming isis' best recruiter. they are going to people showing videos of donald trump insulting islam and muslims in order to recruit more radical jihadists. >> iliana johnson is here, the editor of the national review. hi. >> great to be with you. >> is hillary clinton on to something, or is this just typical debate discourse? >> well, i think you see a very clear strategy emerging from her. she's acting like a general election candidate focusing not on the democratic challengers for the nomination but on donald trump and specifically she's looking to tar the rest of the republican field with some of trump's most controversial comments. and her assumption really is that isis is not doing what it's
9:23 am
doing because of a particular ideology on the part of isis but in reaction to remarks or provocations from americans. >> well, we don't know what hillary clinton is really thinking when she said that. i imagine if she were here, someone on her team would possibly add to what you just said. we'll move on and play for you el yawn na, a sound bite from donald trump on fox and friends this morning with reaction to hillary's comments. >> it turned out to be a very big pinocchio, turned out to be a lie. it's a total lie. it's ridiculous. she makes it up, and she makes a lot of things up. >> so what's your reaction to donald trump's comments? >> well, it's a little bit ridiculous because hillary clinton wasn't saying that isis had done this. she was predicting isis would do this. but what i do find interesting is it hasn't behooved any of donald trump's challengers to get in arguments with him.
9:24 am
anybody who has have plunged in the polls. people who cozy up to him like ted cruz have done well. it will be interesting to see if attacking trump benefits hillary clinton or proves to be detrimental to her. >> it's one thing for trump's opponents, republican opponents, to attack him or try to counter attack him than hillary clinton doing it. hillary sees trump as the front-runner and she's looking ahead thinking this is is the guy she may be going head-to-head with. i want to call for a new fox news poll that is asking fshgs the election were held today, who would win? taking a look now, it says clinton at 49%, trump at 38%. so what do you make of those numbers and will they stick? >> i do think that donald trump probably would be a weak general election candidate. he has a very particular base
9:25 am
within the republican party, but i think that he would -- he is unlikely to be able to draw new people into the party going into a general election. i thieve that's probably a pretty accurate poll even though polls at this point aren't tremendously predictive. >> we've got about 45 seconds. last night as you well know bernie sanders apologized for accessing rilry clinton's voter data information. i want to ask you, what was his strategy? why didn't bernie call hillary or perhaps maybe send her a personal note? why did he make a public apology? >> you know, i'm a little puzzled as to what his strategy was. it was certainly exciting on friday to see sanders take on the dnc in the way that he did. so i am a little puzzled as to why he sort of backed down in the way that he did. not just in the debate but in the past couple of debates i
9:26 am
would have expected to see a little bit more fire from him in terms of attacking her. >> maybe in this particular instance he was trying to make sure his voters knew he wasn't up to no good and he is still a truthful candidate. perhaps. don't know. thank you so much. >> thanks very much. arthel, there's major news to talk about prostate cancer patients. coming up, we'll explain what type of treat researchers say is more effective than others. plus, we are going to look at starting a family if you are. we'll tell you which age doctors say is the best time for a woman to have a baby and why. s with this helzberg diamonds 1-carat diamond ring, now just $1,299. helzberg diamonds. here's to love.
