9:00 am
>> thanks for joining us. we'll see you back here in an hour. jon: "outnumbered" is next. andrea: this is "outnumbered." our fox news contributor is back with us, and megyn mccain. father jonathon morris. and you are outnumbered, father. >> i have four sisters and i feel very comfortable.
9:01 am
and besides, it's christmas eve. there are all these kids that line up and they are looking and waving at you. merry christmas to everybody. andrea: he's not back down on this eve. republican presidential candidate ted cruz take on the "washington post" and the mainstream media tweeting he calls a better idea for a cartoon. hillary clinton walking her attack dogs which bear the names of the washington post and "new york times." the cartoonist received she only did it because cruz featured his kids in an ad mocking hillary clinton and obamacare. but the "post" pulled the cartoon after cruz complained by
9:02 am
the in a tweet. don't mess with anybody's kids. all of us learned in kindergarten. don't hit little girls. it's not complicated. don't make fun of a 5-year-old and 7-year-old girl. >> i was so mad yesterday. andrea: your family has come under fire for year. you were mentioning your sister. but you have as well-being the daughter of a presidential candidate and long-time senator. what do you think with cruz hitting back with the cartoon? >> i think the cartoon was pinpoint on point where he should be. it's exhausting to have this double standard. this is nothing that would never have been done or said about hillary clinton's daughter or obama's daughters. andrea: taught sister jonathon,
9:03 am
some are saying this is a gift for ted cruz. a political gift from god at the holiday season. but if you know what seems to be lacking in politics? this level of decency and level of kindness. you see this on the right. the right seems to take it more than the left. there is a double standard. they don't go after the obama daughters or chelsea clinton but we saw them go after sarah palin's children and now cruz's children. >> i don't know about the right or left, i'll trust you on that one. but it's a different thing now than it was 100 years ago in politics. you would never get elected to the highest position of the land when you were doing crude, mean, nasty things, especially to the kids of your competitors. you wouldn't do that. we don't need that type of lack of decency and mobility. i think this is a great moment
9:04 am
for to us say enough. i barely know the names of president obama's daughters, and that's a good thing. we don't need to. they are children. andrea: harris, you are a journalist and you make on the fly decisions how to report the news and you are he monday the best. but you are also a mama bear to two beautiful little girls. what are your thoughts on how ted cruz responded? harris: he did it in a way through this twitter feed where he didn't from some to go through an editor. are they going to check that picture with their editor and hillary clinton? if they are going to get down and dirty, i'm curious to see how the punchback will be from the media. ted cruz has done something that involves adults and the media
9:05 am
that took a shot at him and it doesn't involve anything untoward. he calls it for the way he sees it. it was their end that started the nastiness. >> we saw it with the rolling stone publication. but they didn't apologize when they got something so egregious. this is a little bit different because the editor came out and said this is my bad. >> you are the editor and you didn't approve something that went through to publication? should the editor be paid in that case? but if this were done about the obama daughters or chelsea clinton or chelsea clinton's daughter and unborn baby, there would be protests everywhere. people would be freaking. >> ted cruz turned this into a happy circumstance. something i always said. when you get lemons, you make le
9:06 am
moan aid. >> he -- you make lemonade. >> he said let's raise a million dollars to combat this hypocritical left media and turn this into a good thing, and i applaud him for that. >> let's spike that lemonade. harris: did he take a page out of donald trump's book in terms of putting it back on the media and making them aware what looked to the rest of the world. it wasn't biased, it was really bad taste. if it wasn't just really bad taste it probably broke some rules about not putting children in places where the parents are not physically there. andrea: you don't see others in the media standing you have and saying that wasn't the greatest decisions. we have seen the media get outraged over cartoons before.
9:07 am
they will say we'll publish this one and not that one. they weigh in when it idea long- when it ideologically suit them. this time you are hearing crickets. >> people would be rioting in the streets if there was such an interpretation of obama's daughters. harris: republican presidential candidate dr. ben carson said he's about to make a major campaign shakeup. he told self media outlets that every job on his staff is quote on the table. the move follows a report that his campaign spent more money than it brought in october. >> i have concerns about everything. everything is on the table. we are constantly look at everything, looking to see if there are ways to improve things. if there are personnel changes that need to be made.
9:08 am
harris: then dr. carson tried to walk back those comments insisting he has full confidence in his senior advisors. what's going on here? you have been on a number of campaigns. you know how this works. >> when the staff becomes the story, someone hand me a fork. it's not good for ben carson. i know candidate think it's good to say i'm going to make some changes. the campaign is in hospice and this is not a good message. if there is real trouble and we have seen him struggle the last couple weeks with foreign policy and the abortion issue when he conflated pro-lifers with terrorists. >> and off messaging. >> you know what i love about dr. carson, and i know so many friends including my parent who love dr. carson?
9:09 am
he's a good guy. he comes across -- he's not going to try to knock his competition down and speak badly. he's a good guy. >> i don't think doing this is a good guy. do you know how hard campaign staffers work for you? and you are basically insinuating you are going to fire your entire staff coming into new year's? i think for me politically for a candidate, i think it's a lack of leadership and lack of organization and a lack of character on his part. i know everybody loves ben carson, but this is green rookie stuff. harris: behind the scenes what's going on if he comes back and says he needs to walk that back. andrea: it's even worse. too late. why say anything at all. now you have a story about the fact that you don't have confidence in your staff. these are the staff talking to the press.
9:10 am
these are your mouth pieces. then you walk it back and say just kidding? it's just -- it's a 24-hour news cycle that won't walk away. >> he's a good guy. but i don't necessarily want a good guy as president. i want a good guy to be my next door neighbor walk my dog. i want a competent guy in the white house. >> i don't want any good guy to be our president. but i want our president to be a good guy. i want him to have values and be able to speak his mind. ben carson is a good guy and it's a very good start. >> that's reflected in the polls as well. >> i have to interject. i feel weird debating with a priest. i'm sorry. but i have to say -- >> people are away from their families meet and potatoes
9:11 am
campaigning on the road for this man, and the way he's going to repay them is to say he's going to fire them a few days before christmas? i think it shows a lack of character. >> i think it's rookie. harris: you guys both have been on campaigns before. i questionnairing out what's in your head in public before you let your staff know. he had a conversation with the public. and how do we know? the follow-up from hip would suggest i didn't mean the senior advisors. those are the people that have to run the campaign through the end of the year. >> the buck stops with whoever is running the campaign. it's ultimately a reflect on you as a candidate. because you are the one that okayed it. if you can't manage the campaign how can you run the country. harris: it's like we are in the
9:12 am
hospital and we are the patient and would he do that to the nursing staff? >> ben carson for surgeon general. he's a good man and a smart doctor. >> think is the major leagues, got to beat hi are you. harris: you said you wanted an outsider. the nba weighed into the debate on guns. is this appropriate? and shouldn't fans be able to watch the game without ads about gun control? donald trump taking aim at hillary clinton warning her not to play the woman card. how nasty could this get, and could she suffer the same fate as trump's gop rivals? stay with us.

quote
9:17 am
have a name on it. >> someone put a bullet into the back of my 14-year-old's head. >> we don't have to live like this, we can all make a difference. andrea: that was shooting victims relatives and other basketball stars. they are trying to reach millions of fans during games tomorrow. the neighbor says the ads are in the political. but the organization that funded the ads is funded by mike bloomberg. seems pretty political to me. >> i would rather see this ad on christmas day rather than
9:18 am
another incontinence ad. it will be playing on christmas day, and you know what family members will be showing off on christmas day in their new rifles. their new firearms. sales of guns have gone up in the last month. right now the majority of we'll seeing this probably weren't agreeing. maybe it makes the neighbor feel good. a pat on the back. we are doing our part. >> they are doing their part, and thi this -- and this is agan violence. everybody is against gun violence. i gliewpt midwest, my far it always had a shotgun in his closet for hunting and for protecting the family. in the streets of the bronx where i live, i was with the father of two young guys telling
9:19 am
me, he owns a little grocery in the bronx. he said it's so hard knowing all around me, all my kids' friends have guns. how do i keep them safe? harris: i don't want to say i know what happened to each perpetrator in every piece of that ad. but i have to speak up as somebody who carries the stories on a regular basis is the people in those ads are the ones killing people. they want gaining retaliation. i would argue they would kill no matter what they had in their hands. where is that? i'm so sorry you lost your loved one. where is the mother saying i hope they get suspect?
9:20 am
>> let's be honest, the president -- mrs. clinton, others who were asked after san bernardino saying it's gun violence. that was really dumb. there will be violence whether there are guns in the street or not. but to say i lived in europe for many years. i lived in central america. the type of violence other countries, and the president talks about this a thought, and he's right. he's right that the type of violence that goes not united states on the streets -- i don't mean terrorism, i mean in chicago, new york, los angeles and other places is out of control come fired other countries. and to a big extent i believe it's because there is easy access to weapons that make it easy to kill and get away. harris: parallel that track with we are going to deal with mental illness and unemployment. anger, the drugs. can we run a parallel?
9:21 am
>> i'm not going to take an ad directed by spike lee seriously. these are tragic stories, but it's left-wing propaganda. >> it's not left-wing propaganda to have them say guns are bad. >> let me finish, father. this is left-wing propaganda when you have le bron james in a t-shirt making a political statement, wearing a t-shirt about hands up. >> that was against the police. that was terrible that he wore that. andrea: the nba has weighed into political issues is my point. to my point, the issue in chicago, put in the ad the root of the issue. root of the problem in chicago is black on black violence with illegal guns. these aren't legal guns that have passed federal background checks. >> when you can go to a gun show
9:22 am
and not go through a background check. when there is easy access the bad guys are going to use those guns. andrea: they are not getting the guns from gun shows. they are not. >> it may not be the origin by the means there are more guns on the streets. >> there are people in america who are scared right now that have the right to bear arms. >> i'm kind of neutral. do you have a le mown aid analogy? >> i think it all should be looked at. andrea: it doesn't help with it's just spike lee and the basketball players. you should join that ad. >> i'm happy to. andrea: black lives matter protesters shutting down the

mall of america and snarling access to the airport in minneapolis yesterday. activists are vowing to shut down chicago's magnificent mile on christmas eve. is this the best way to get their message across? donald trump throwing down the gauntlet and hillary clinton warning her to not even think about playing the war on women card. holds stronger than the leading paste all day... without the ooze. feel secure. be yourself. with stronger, clean sea-bond.

9:28 am
of black teenager laquan mcdonald. this after black lives matter shut down the mall of america and smarld traffic in minneapolis yesterday. they were protesting last month's fatal shooting of a man from minneapolis. reporter: we are seeing the protest organizers at the michigan avenue bridge. it's called the magnificent mile. with the unabashed goal of disrupting holiday shopping. they did this on black friday and called it a success. now they are calling it black christmas. you may notice a younger generation that seems to be he snroflg place of the leadership. you will see some of the old civil rights activists like
9:29 am
jesse jackson. but a lot of people in the black community are noting a new guard taking over. >> you have seen jesse jackson and the civil rights foundation have been at the forefront of the challenges that faced our community and they haven't create sad space for another generation. reporter: their top demands are the resignation of anita alvarez. and mayor rahm emanuel on the allegation that they sat on the video. the mayor is not up for another three years and a bill has been introduced that would provide for a recall. but that's that state level. on the moment there is nothing on the books to legally remove a sitting mayor in the city of chicago. harris: that's at the heart of
9:30 am
it, whether his recent apology will be enough to get him through this. >> on social media we see with politicians, it doesn't work. no one is thinking about, these poor store owners. how businesses are being affected. these are people who are victims. it's the busy season. or the police out there trying to keep the police. and it's the holiday season. i appreciate the right to protest. har report organizer leading in the this protest says the stoppage in the revenue is meant to get attention. >> but it will hurt business owners and merchants trying to make money during the holiday season. black lives matter is caught up
9:31 am
in the occupy wall street. they have a confrontation with hillary clinton where they can't tell her what they want from her in 20 minutes. >> this case in chicago is different than other black lives matter issues. it seems like the mayor sat on the video for political reasons. that's disgusting. >> and he's now vacationing in cuba. >> yes it will hurt shop owners on christmas eve. but i love to see democracy in action. they wouldn't do this, would emanuel be pressured to change in. >> step down? >> i don't know if he should step down. but he should say the truth. did he sit on this? if he did, then yes there should be consequences. >> it will be interesting to see if that state level recall mike
9:32 am
tobin reported on reaches the protesters. andrea: i don't know if the timing of this is going to be taken well. if you are trying to garner people your side, i'm not sure this is the right kinds of attention. the war of words between hillary clinton and donald trump is heating up. the democratic frontrunner used trump's controversial comments to rally women behind her candidate --candidacy. trump posted hillary, when you come plain about a penchant for sexism, who are you referring to. i have respect for women. be careful. we knee what he's referring to. it seems like a trump strategy when he went out there and said
9:33 am
obama blanked hillary clinton, beat her in a race. he's baiting her into a debate over sexism. she has been humiliated by her own husband. harris: my husband who is at npr, he says this is brilliant on his part politically because he has drawn her into the fight on the very issue that will polarize voters with regard to her. she is shedding in terms of who will back her. they feel polarized. is she warm and fuzzy enough, is she victim? is she the aggressor? where is she? are you going to play the victim? how are you going to lead the country as a victim. andrea: this amazing how this news cycle works. trump knows all this and he puts it out there brilliantly.
9:34 am
she says trump is in an isis video. trump says produce it and she can't it turns out her husband is in the video. they are calling him a fornicator. they are using his infidelity as a recruitment tool. >> i feel strongly both people will be the nominees for their parties. what i love about trump, he's all for equality. he will treat hillary clinton the same regardless of if she is a woman. andrea: when he said barack obama and the "s" word. his campaign is tough on her, enough to make her cry during that town hall.
9:35 am
playing the victim card that time didn't work. >> the left has to be very careful with this quote war on women because this isn't the same election it was in '08 or 2012. she is an entirely different woman with an entirely different husband. be careful with the messenger. it won't work this time around with her. andrea: her spokeswoman said women understand this kind of language is degrading. i retweeted, actually women understand there is nothing more humiliating than what bill clinton did to her. not on was she so kay with it, she bullied these women and the media is okay with that. >> we know the story and it's disgusting all of it. and i don't like the playing the female woman card that hillary
9:36 am
is doing. by think what trump is doing is going to get him in big trouble. he's going after so many minority groups of people whether it's hispanics or blacks that hillary clinton will be able to make advertisement a advertisement when it gets to the general election saying if you happen to be his andic, black, woman, this is not your guy. and i think -- andrea: father, that's not working. this week hillary clinton came out and tried to play the hispanic card. and she said i'm your grand mothered. hispanics said you are not with a hashtag. >> donald trump said i'm going to start being nice to people.
9:37 am
>> the country doesn't want that. come on, father. >> do you want a president doing that? do you want a president doing that? i think donald trump is smart enough to say, enough of the anger mean nasty stuff. >> on the flip side i find it unbelievably insulting that hillary clinton acts just because i share an anatomy with her, that's the only reason i go to the voting booth with her and my only issue is my ovaries. it has not hurt trump yet. i doubt it will change his style anytime soon. andrea his time in his annual holiday message to offer prayers for christians suffering at the hands of isis.

a lunch lady fired for giving a hungry student a free meal has gotten her job back. but many are asking why she was fired in the first place. i absolutely love my new york apartment, but the rent is outrageous. good thing geico offers affordable renters insurance. with great coverage it protects my personal belongings should they get damaged, stolen or destroyed. [doorbell] uh, excuse me. delivery. hey. lo mein, szechwan chicken, chopsticks, soy sauce and you got some fortune cookies. have a good one. ah, these small new york apartments... protect your belongings. let geico help you with renters insurance.

harris: president obama on this christmas eve is offering his prayers for christians being persecuted by the afterrages of the terror state army. the president said we join with people around the world in praying for god's protection for persecuted christians and those of other faiths as well as those brave men and women engaged in our military, diplomatic, and humanitarian efforts to alleviate their suffering.
9:43 am
if you could, lay it out, what are christians facing around the globe. >> from africa to the middle east. and other places, there are so many christians on the run. i think immediately of our brothers and sisters in syria. i was in syria about a year before the civil war began. it was under a dictatorship. they were controlled in a certain way by the dictatorship. but now they have all thread. many of those in syria fled from iraq. so these are two generations of families who have been fleeing -- i think of boko haram in nigeria. harris: they have plengd allegiance to isis. >> i love it when the president says let's pray for them.
9:44 am
almost a year ago i would say the international community stop isis and use force if necessary. get together, international community and stop them and use force if necessary. they haven't done it. >> so the pope is here not too long ago. and you saw self times the two men, the pope and president, their faces together. do you think that message will trial hope again? was that delivered personally? >> i don't know for sure. pope francis basically tried to find point of agreement. i think a lot of us would have said what about this, what about this. when he comes to a country he find point of agreement. but he's been talking about this for years now since he has been
9:45 am
elected. >> christians were treated better under the dictators, saddam hussein, moammar qaddafi before barack obama's arab spring. it's frustrating and maddening to listen to the president talk about syrianings are. i don't agree with him. i don't think he should have drawn that red lane and gone into syria. i think it's a travesty christians are being percent cute. i don't think it's the job of our founding fathers to articulate that america is the top cop to go in and save them. but if you really cared about thosings are, you would have stood up. >> in 016 we are going -- in 2016 we are going to need policy. if you want to help christians around the world. put some ground troops in syria.
9:46 am
we have the greatest military in the world. let's go after them. harris: you sounds like your dad. >> you are a mccain through and through. smoke them out, baby, come on! harris: a cafeteria worker got fired for giving a free lunch to a child who had no money and was hungry. but should she have been fired in the first place? what were they thinking? >> i think it's ridiculous. that's a ridiculous reason to fire somebody. heartburn! no one burns on my watch! try alka-seltzer heartburn reliefchews. they work fast and don't taste chalky. mmm...amazing. i have heartburn. alka-seltzer heartburn reliefchews. enjoy the relief.

andrea: an idaho school is offering a cafeteria worker her job back after she was fired for giving a free lunch to a child who had no money. the lunch was worth $1.70. >> my heart hurt. i truly loved my job.
9:51 am
but i can't say wouldn't do it again. andrea: the community rallied around her after she lost her job. the community racked up thousands of signatures. i can't even watch that sound on tape. my heart just breaks. >> a lot of people who work in cafeterias at schools do so for many years and they get to know the kids, and the kid know them in return. of course, the school had to offer her her job back. because if they didn't, they wore saying the right thing to do is let a child go hungry. would i rather oprah give her 0 other job because think woman is a hero in my mind. harris: that's hilarious.
9:52 am
this goes beyond -- both my parent were teachers in the classroom at one point. this woman is some of what an expert on what real hunger would look like. when she looked into that child's eyes it wasn't just from a heart space. she is also thinking that kid need some food because she has to perform today. give her some credit, she is an expert in her field of knowing what it's like to need that nutrient. i give her a lot of credit. andrea: shouldn't the appropriate thing be to look for an appropriate way to have some allocation set aside? >> it's great they are bringing it out in the news. but there are so many people around our great country who are in desperate need.
9:53 am
i see tonight bronx every day. there are people getting free stuff who don't need it and there is abuse. but there are people who need help. after this show i'm take out an older gentleman who has no family out to a christmas dinner before our liturgy tonight. when i called him getting ready web was so excited. i started crying to myself. more than just happiness for hip. how many people have i not thought of in the past. what this little tiny thing does for this gentleman. all the people who are in our lives who need somebody to be close to them. this woman did it and she did it in the right way. andrea: we are always buying for other people. but in my family we pool the money and give it to a family that needs it. it's a nice way to give back all year long. >> i can't watch this woman as
9:54 am
well without getting emotional. i don't know what's going on in our education system when a cafeteria woman is fired for giving a needy child $1.70 in food. andrea: do you say merry christmas or happy holidays? a surprising result of a new poll that shows who said what and where. harris: that reminds me of that movie "love actually." which do you prefer, merry christmas or happy holidays. a new poll shows which greeting people would like to hear based on where they live. it seems merry christmas is most popular in the midwest and the west. happy holidays in the east. and the deep south, the bible belt section of the south. and i'm from the south. we say merry christmas. that's why i don't buy into this. >> i'm against merry christmas.
9:59 am
happy holidays -- i think we should congratulate people for the holiday they are celebrating. merry christmas is merry christmas. happy hanukkah, whatever it happens to be. in the northeast whether there is a tremendous amount of diversity. people are afraid of offending. don't worry about offending. if somebody said to me father, happy hanukkah. andrea: i agree with you for the first time during the show. i wouldn't walk into a synagogue and say, merry christmas, everybody. >> christmas eve and christmas day i say merry christmas. other times i say happy holidays because it takes care of everything.
