good morning, everyone. it's sunday, december 27th. i'm in for ana kooiman. deadly tornados twisting through dallas. >> oh, man! large tornado! large tornado! >> those are storm chasers. this morning, we look at the destruction left behind. we're watching it for you. and the war of words between hillary clinton and donald trump. what was said in the latest front-runner feud as trump gets ready to speak here. a shocking new report out

about peyton manning and several other well-known athletes taking performance enhancing drugs. what are behind these allegations and why peyton is calling them garbage. "fox and friends" starts now. let's get straight to that fox news alert. tornadoes touching down in texas. at least eight people are dead after storms swept through the lone star state leaving homes and churches destroyed. thousands out in the cold. >> i go in the closet, run in the closet and my kids was asleep. everything is gone over here downstairs. >> the dallas-ft. worth area hit hard. several tornadoes hit there and in garland as well. >> garret is live. garret?

>> search and rescue teams have been working through the night to find those trapped in the debris. it was already dark when the tornado sirens started going off across north texas just before a series of tornadoes hit the area. >> and five seconds later, windows are breaking and i'm yelling at the family to get cover and we really had no warning. everybody seems to be okay. house is demolished. everything around us is demolished. >> one official described the scene as a war zone and you can see why. homes demolished, roofs ripped off, cars thrown onto their sides. neighborhoods covered in debris as well. and several churches in the area were badly damaged, also. at least eight people are dead. half of which were in their cars when they were hit by one of the tornadoes. the damage stretched over about a 40-mile long area south of dallas to the northeast of the city. in total, at least 18 people have been killed over the christmas holiday in the severe

storms hitting the south. back to y'all. >> garrett tenney, thanks. texas is still bracing for the worst and more storms are expected to tear through that state. >> thousands were trying to go home after the christmas holidays and airlines trying to fly around the storm stranding thousands around the country today. >> this made for messy travel conditions for millions. we have janice dean tracking the latest on the system. what do you have for snus? >> it's so sad. unfortunately, the risk is not over. people are urged to pay really close attention to your weather forecasters and we'll keep you up to date. but look at the temperatures. i mean, one of the things that you need for extreme weather for the tornadoes is the clash of

the two air masses and we've got that. look at the cold air moving southward from the north. it's 2 in rapid city. ahead of that, we have record warmth. so the potential for severe weather again today and then behind this, the cold air is leading to 12 to 18 inches of snow and blizzard conditions up towards the midwest. that's the last 24 hours. also, between that, a layer of ice, freezing rain and/or sleet across texas, oklahoma, up towards missouri. in the red that you see shaded there, that is a blizzard warning. parts of new mexico, texas, in towards kansas and then the purple through oklahoma. that is a freezing rain warning. so we have ice on the roadways. it is difficult f. not impossible, to travel in these areas and that extends up towards the great lakes and this system is on the move. so we're not done yet. monday into tuesday, we're going to be dealing with across the ohio valley, tennessee valley as

well as the northeast. there's your future radar, you can see the icy mix on monday. keep that in mind if you're traveling and pay attention to your local forecasters. this is lasting not only through today but tuesday. people are trying to get home from christmas. it's not worth it. stay where you are if you're told not to travel. >> that's what everybody is talking about. all of these weird weather conditions. here, record temperatures in the new york city area. we'll keep an eye on that. thank you very much, janice. in a message of terror, a new audio is surfacing appearing to be from the leader of isis. in the 24-minute clip, abu bakr al baghdadi says that isis is striving and russia is failing. this is despite the syrian oil facility teas and the death of isis leaders in the past weeks. baghdadi warns israel, isis is

coming. firefighters are finally getting control of a 1200 acre fire that exploded in southern california. the solimar fire is now 50% contained. hundreds of firefighters are trying to put out those flames. it should down 101 which is major artery leading from southern california to north in the ventura county area. it's now back open. it will be three days before the fire is fully contained. panicked shoppers after there was gunfire. >> no! >> oh! >> move! >> frightening. dekalb police say a group of teenagers had a scuffle near the food court, carrying guns, obviously. two shots were fired but no one

was injured, luckily. the police have no suspects in custody. and the washington redskins are going to the playoffs, beating the philadelphia eagles kurt cousins had a season high of 365 yards. that's a heck of a year. the eagles are now eliminated from the playoffs, making some of us very happy. all right. peyton manning -- i will not say anything negative about that man. he's a wonderful, class-act human being. >> you like all of that, good boy. >> yep. >> but a dark side, a new documentary alleging this exchange between charlie sly and mr. collins who were selling these performance enhancing

drugs. we would be sending ashley manning, his wife, like growth hormone and it would never be under his name but under her name. peyton manning is calling all of this garbage say. i mentioned the one guy sly. we don't know anything about these people. he's recanted and said, i was just making this up. it didn't happen. and let's face it, al jazeera is not known for documentaries. this is the first time i've heard that they've done a tell-all about nfl. >> consider the source. not known for documentaries and then one former employee who has now taken back his story but it wasn't just peyton manning. he called out justin keller of the jets, james harrison, clay

matthews. other athletes. >> there have been others who have broken fans' hearts and lied about this kind of thing repeatedly. peyton manning, though, is somebody who has had a sterling track record, we should point out. >> right. >> let me quickly say what he said. "the allegation that i would do something like that is complete garba garbage and is totally made up. it never happened. never. i really can't believe somebody would put something like this on the air." >> charlie sly is a pharmacist and worked at an anti-aging clinic. here's what he had to say about this. he was caught saying something to a british hurdler under cover. "the statements on any

recordings or communications that al jazeera plans to air is absolutely false and incorrect". >> we want to believe peyton manning. american wants to believe peyton manning. he's a great ambassador for the sport. donald trump not taking a break during the holiday, escalating his war of words with hillary clinton. latest tweet on saturday saying, "hillary clinton has announced that she's letting her husband out to campaign. but he's demonstrated a pen chant for sex i am. so inappropriate." this is a couple days after he said, warning, if you want to accuse me, hillary clinton, donald trump says, of sexism, she did in her recent comments about her. he said a shot across the bow.

scandal? >> it really hasn't changed. there are still a lot of problems and it's no surprise because the architects of the downfall of phoenix are there. they have yet to take action on the chief of the chief of staff there and he was at the center of the waiting list scandal. he lied to senator mccain. he lied on camera to the american public. he got involved in the urology scandal. they talked about what happened but didn't detail who was responsible and that was primarily him and chief of surgery dr. yale. >> i'd like to talk about dr. deering for a second. he's been on paid administrative leave for 15 months yet he pushed out whistleblowers.

how can it be that he's not fired? >> he was the only one not placed on administrative leave. >> right. >> i share your sentiments in that. >> but why? what is the reason? >> well, we're not sure. we have speculated that he may have received immunity for the waiting list scandal by cooperating with the original investigation. but beyond that, we don't understand, either, why someone who is engaged in prohibitive practice had a large involvement in things like the urology scandal and a year ago they knew he had committed against the whistleblowers. we cannot understand it. >> this comes after a report from the va about the urology clinic in phoenix which

experienced extreme staffing shortages that impacted thousands of patients. leaders did not have a plan to provide urological services. folks at the top not held accountable. the va secretary bob mcdonnell came in after the scandal. do you think he could be doing more? do you think he's doing a good job as head of the va? >> i don't know. the question is, what role has the white house played in this? rob neighbors was assigned the va problem in june 2014 and then earlier this year he was made chief of staff of the va. originally deputy secretary gibson appeared to be going out after whistleblowers and people who had done things not consistent with va policy and then the breaks were put on them. >> you talked about the chief of staff of phoenix.

>> blizzard conditions as well moving into the southern plains. >> here to sort it out for us is janice dean. janice, thanks for joining us. >> of course. 15 million people affected by this latest storm system and really it started on wednesday and continues through this weekend and into monday and tuesday. take a look at the last 24 hours. we've got a mix here, a potential for severe, hail and damaging winds and blizzard conditions and an ice storm for parts of oklahoma in towards kansas and missouri. you can see the cold side of the storm across the southwest, the very warm side of the storm. we were dealing with record-setting temperatures across the eastern seaboard and parts of the south these last few days across the christmas holiday. there's one of the computer models. we're expecting anywhere from 12 to 18 inches of snow and it will eventually end up towards the northeast and new england where

they could receive their most snowfall they have received so far this winter. so take a look at not only the snow but extreme flooding. unfortunately, we're going to be dealing with 6 to 8 inches, isolated amounts of a foot of rainfall over areas already saturated. so parts of the ozarcks, tennessee valley. yet again, into a weather pattern where they see a potential for flooding and flash flooding. there are your warnings. we have at least a dozen states under flash flood watches or warnings. a multifaceted storm. there's so much to talk about and so many people affected. people are trying to travel home but if you can't, stay put. >> so much more to come, huh? >> yeah. unfortunately, at least until tuesday. >> you'll be very busy. >> we'll be here. let's get to other stories making headlines. multiple european cities on alert after being warned of a possible attack ahead of the new

year. police in vienna, austria, stepping up security around that area. they received a warning of a gun or bomb attack. no plans yet to cancel any new year's events, however. back here in alabama, paramedics are terrified to see a woman pull a gun on them. a woman was complaining of dizziness, the paramedics arrived and she fired three shots inside of the rescue truck and steals the ambulance and decides to go on a joy ride before police finally arrested her. no one was injured, luckily, and police are not releasing her name. we do not understand why she did this. i would imagine she has some mental issues. i don't know. a florida father is begging a thief to return his late son's military uniform. someone stole his storage trailer out of a church parking lot where his boots and battle

fatigues were being kept safe. he was killed in july 2004, serving in iraq at the time. the trailer is the least important thing he wants back. >> god gave a gift and took it away. they can take the trailer. just let me have the military stuff. >> the trailer wasn't registered with the police department so police don't have any leads on that. a florida lawmaker is leaving this year's hottest gift for the kids. he took a spill on a hoverboard, his nephew's hoverboard. he's apparently in very good company. tons of videos are going viral this morning showing parents getting on the hoverboards but not for long. >> oh, boy. >> yeah. they are not -- >> let's jump on it. >> yeah, exactly.

and the front-runner feud between hillary clinton and donald trump is escalating and former president bill clinton will join his wife on the trail. could that end up helping trump more than clinton? here to debate it is adam goodman and democratic strategist steve lester. steve, let's start with you. the bottom line is, you hear a

lot of democrats saying bill clinton has been itching to get out there on the campaign trail and he will be a good asset, according to democrats. >> he definitely will be. he helped barack obama a lot in the 2012 campaign, helping him get re-elected. he's somebody who gets to focus the issues really well on behalf of the person who he's advocating for and takes a lot of the energy out of bernie sand de ers' campaign and back onto hillary's. >> adam, is he somebody that donald trump obviously believes that bill clinton has vulnerabilities and when hillary clinton threw that punch earlier this week basically saying that donald trump has been making sexist comments and donald trump warned her, i am going to be talking about bill clinton. does bill clinton also bring a lot of baggage? >> you have to look at history, both her history and bill's

history in 2008. bill tried to weigh in in a big way early on in her presidential campaign. the campaign did not make it to the finish line. he was very controversial and started to be more to the background. we have to look at her history. we live in a time where messenger and message count. after getting coaching from professionals on personality and persona, she seems to be turning to her own husband to give her a dose of that. i do agree, though, that one of the political factors, the biggest factor right now is the basin sensitivity. if bernie sanders were to actually win new hampshire, this might be a primary fight. >> i want to speak with you for a second, adam. we'll have donald trump on at the top of the 8:00 hour eastern time to talk about hillary clinton and a lot of other subjects. adam, let's talk about trey gowdy who is going on the campaign trail with marco rubio.

"i look forward to campaigning in iowa with him and introducing my good friend to voters across the state." he's saying that this is not an official endorsement but when you're out on the road in iowa with him, could this be a big endorsement when you have the chairman of the benghazi committee to warm up voters? >> first, americans have to get over the confusion between trey gowdy and kurt gowdy, the late great sportscaster. but i think it actually means something to mark at a time when he was losing momentum especially because of the attacks from cruz and others having to do with his involvement with the gang of eight. i think this is good. endorsements can be somewhat mitigated by bigger circumstances in campaigns. this is a good one going into iowa where the conservative laying is the primary way to

victory. >> steve, big picture, obviously marco rubio wants to win the republican nomination but the idea is he could potentially be a new face for the gop, marco rubio in a strong general election candidate if he's jumping in with the chairman of the benghazi committee, does that backfire with independent voters? >> i don't think so. i think he definitely would be one of the top two or three people that we would be worried about as far as folks on the republican side in the general election. the problem is, he's just so far off of the mark at this point. he would need something like jeb bush and chris christie both to bow out of the race and then he might be a threat to win iowa, to win the nomination. right now he doesn't seem like he's going to be able to make it. he's going to lose iowa, new hampshire and probably out by the end of super tuesday. >> we'll all be watching closely for the next republican debate, mid-january. thank you, adam and steve. >> thank you. the leader of isis resurfaces with a threat against the west but the state

that's how self-deception, level of self-deception the state department is accommodate. libya, syria, all the places we've done things. state department has failed. yemen, iraq, i mean, iran, it's altogether, it's all completely failing, so as a policy. so, baghdadi is not correct either in that, you know, he's talking about things he wants to do. pete, the most important thing we need to focus on here is not what baghdadi said, it's the fact that he said it. that tells me everything by the fact that we have not done what we need to do to both eradicate his personal message as well as eradicate him. to be effective, he have to go after the nanna control. the fact that we have our own state department working against us, actually adding to isis' meme by allowing them to continue to basically take up and say that they're winning, as well as the fact that, you know, we're actually not doing what we need to do, kill the guys we we

should killing. >> in the tape al baghdadi calls on saudi islamists to call on that regime. what are the indications that saudi arabia might be putting together? do you think he's taking on? >> it's clear that the issue in saudi arabia has been one of the issues, the foundations of violent extremism, violent islam from day one. so, clearly baghdadi's telegraphing trying to recruit people, trying to get people to do something. with that said, pete, the saudi arabia leadership is going in the right direction. proposed over a year and a half ago a arab neighbor created. the 34-member nation that the saudi is trying to put together is what we should be doing. the idea here is that we need to find the sunni element, sunni military elements to settle sunni areas of iraq. we don't do that, let the shia come in, let the iranians come no, we have not solved anything, we've created a second level of violence and chaos by the fact

that we actually added to the chaos, but it's a good idea. >> absolutely. there's been developments on the ground as well in iraq. they have made progress in ramadi, property vins, what do you see happening there and are implications for the turning of the tide in the fight against isis? >> well, i see, pete, i'm hopeful that ramadi becomes a turning point in that this is the place we pull everything together. i have great confidence in the pentagon and the department of joint chiefs, with that said, it's not up to us who win the war. it's up to the iraqis to figure out their future. we need to be helpful, help coach them, but as baghdadi said, he's trying to draw us in to having boots on the ground. we can do this with special operations and outorganize coalitions and those people on the ground, iraqis, saudis, and to do this boots on the ground for us. if we don't do that quickly,

guy was. it's an allegation. i know a lot of athletes at the end of their career use hdh, i'm just shocked that peyton's name is associated with something like that. we just to wait and see. time will tell. >> how do you make sense when players like peyton manning, sticking around longer and longer, wants to stay at the top of his game, again, it's an allegation, but how do you make sense? >> it's an allegation. obviously i was a player, i guess hanging around and sticking around for 17 years. and peyton manning was a friend of mine. i had chance to play in pro bowl, and people always say, you know, are athletes taking drugs and things of that nature. for me knowing i was playing throughout my career and allegations would get more information, that's where we should leave it. >> i want to bring in the doctor, there's obviously, as that report comes out. also this new movie "concussion" hitting theaters, will it make a difference, why is it important, do you think, to discuss this,

especially for youth, you know, young players out there who are getting concussions and there's a lot of parents are worried about this. >> you know, the kids are more susceptible obviously because their brain is younger and easily to get injured. when you look at the statistics, you know, in games, concussions is much higher in youth football than in high school and college and the pros. so, you want to protect them as they're going forward. so the movie is going to bring a lot more awareness to people who aren't necessarily nfl fans. i mean people who watch the nfl, everybody know's the hot topics, there's concussion protocols now. this is going to cause the moms that don't watch football with the fathers, you know, to say wait a minute, i'm the not sure if my kid should be doing this. >> on the parents who are watching today, let's go through the stats, youth football injuries per 1,000 athlete exposures, 2.38 will suffer concussions.

1.02 ankle sprain, .53 fractures. but in terms of concussions, youth football, one in 30, high school, 1 in 14 in college, 1 in 20 in the pros. you'll see concussions. you have an interesting idea which is, let's go back to old school for young people. >> well, i think so. because the brain is still developing. and i think you can still learn how to play football without the helmet. i think you can learn, you can play fast, you can learn proper technique of tackling, and you keep your head out. >> leather helmet. >> >> i don't know if it's a leather helmet, but what we have in the nfl for college and high school level. it needs to be where they go out there, play fast and learn the fundamental technique and take the head off the game. >> would you let your kids play? >> actually been it's an interesting question. i think based on the life lessons that aye learned, how the sport has changed my life, now with the technology and information out there, i would

allow my kids to play, but it'd have to be if there's a smarter way to play now have as a kid, i didn't play football, i grew up in germany, i didn't play organized football until my tenth grade year in high school. if i had some right now, i would let him play if he's properly taught. i think with the heads up program, i think the nfl and others are doing a better job of kicking their head out of the game. >> talk to parents directly watching right now. what do you think is the appropriate way for them to make these very personal decisions about whether to let their kids play football or whether or not, you know, how early they should be using helmets. >> i mean, i mean they need to know the statistics. i mean information is everything, and communication. so, one you have to know what the risks are. just like in surgery, you have to know what the risks are of surgery before you have surgery. all right. versus the benefit. there's a lot of benefits in playing football that we haven't spoken about, camaraderie, learning how to strategize right, offenses, defenses,

all these crazy weather issues. let's go over to janet, good morning. >> we talk about the travel delays, we're going to see a lot of those across much of the country. 18 million people affected by this next storm system, and it continues to be on the move, and of course we saw tornados yesterday. we're going to see the potential for severe storms again today, although the threat will diminish heading into monday and tuesday, but taking a look at the past 24 hours, so we've got not only the risk for severe weather, we've got flooding issues, four to eight inches of heavy rain across portions of the mississippi, the tennessee, and the ohio river valley. behind that, very cold air, so we're seeing 18 to 24 inches of snow behind this across the southwest, towards texas and then up towards the upper midwest. now when you talk about severe threat, today, one more day of hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornados, and that threat shifts eastward. so dallas, you're not quite in

there, but as we move toward shreveport and alexandria and little rock, towards new orleans, you could see the risk for strong storms. and then on monday, we'll see that shift again towards the east, so the florida panhandle, up towards alabama and mississippi. so again, it's going to be a trying day, unfortunately into monday and tuesday, as the storm continues to move eastward, so we're going to see the results of this across the ohio valley, the great lakes, the northeast, some areas of new england could receive 6 to 12 inches of snow. a big chunk of the country affected by this latest system, and of course we were talking about flight delays. we're going to talk about that right now. back to you. >> thanks very much. well yes, flights are delayed all across the country as many cancelled. what do you do if this happens to you? >> here with the answers to questions is our travel expert. >> good morning. >> good morning. thanks for having me. >> such a nightmare when your flight is cancelled and

especially the holidays, hoenl, back to families. >> it's a perfect storm this weekend. and the first thing you need to do, if your flight is cancelled is to look for the voucher code on the carrier's website. this will allow you to change your flight without incurring healthy or -- >> what? >> it's a number, it'll be on the home page or mobile app of your carrier's site or mobile app, and that is the first thing you should find. and you can then go ahead and rebook the flight on your own, but i also recommend simultaneously calling the carrier and getting online with a ticket or gate toogt see which of the three will get you rebooked the fastest. >> at the moment when you see cancelled, and the blood drops and you panic. get in line -- >> get on the phone. >> get on your mobile device, one of these three, you never know which one. >> and the faster people will get the seats. >> how do you get on a flight that's not three days later? we've got it figured out, but then you're stuck for three days.

pick up your kids, get back to work. >> if the weather issue is in the destination, you need to get to, i recommend looking at surrounding airports and seeing if there are flights into them. so for example, if you're fly into new york, newark, philadelphia, at least as close as possible, then hop in a taxi or take a train home. if the weather is in your outbound city, that may be a situation to consider alternate forms or use apps like exmedia to rent a car and get yourself home. >> what if your carrier, they don't have another delta flight, can you get a flight on another carrier? >> it's up to the discretion of the airline whether or not they will search for flights on an alternate carrier, the likelihood is stronger in they are part of the same alliance. for example, delta, airfrance, all part of the team. so it helps you as a passenger to know and ask the questions is another flight available. >> go ahead. there are no flights, i mean, you can't sit there at the

thank you for joining thus morning. there's been unfortunate incidents here in new york city where folks who were let out on lighter sentences, unfortunately went on to commit crimes. in fact there's a national stat that almost 76% of criminals who committed a crime within five years has committed another one. are we seeing something where criminals who shouldn't be let free are being let free? >> i think that's been going on for quite some time. hopefully we're going to see a change in this. finally trying to get new york to catch up to other states where if the criminal is deemed to be a threat to society, we don't have to release hem back into -- them back into society out there. >> but you're seeing a trend on the ground, even with prosecutors and the way the process is going, folks who maybe non-violent drug offenses or slightly violence offenses are being let go? >> i conversations with myself trying to dispute the fact that we're giving drug offenders drug treatment programs. who is that helping if you're giving a drug dealer a drug

program. it's their way of getting out of jail. >> back on the streets selling drugs to others. we have a stat we're going to throw u. americans up five -- prison population is substantial in the united states. 5% of the world's population in america, 25% of the world's prisoners, i mean, locking up in the united states. do you think some reforms in washington would let out the non-violent criminals is just going to make the problem worse? >> i don't know if it's going to make it worse, but i mean obviously we have to do something. one, i don't think a lot of countries are probably correctly stating their numbers. i don't believe that. but, to think about these diversion programs for people and think what happened with detective holder to somebody who has tornado rest and we're letting them back out. let's stop worrying about these criminals, and that's the problem, we're worrying more about the criminals rather than anybody else. it makes no sense. >> absolutely. it's the folks living freely who deal with the implications of

that. in october 6,000 prisoners released within i believe in new york city. knob-violent drug offenses, again. do we even non-violent drug offenses leading to other crimes. >> i take that term and i laugh at it, non-violent drug offender. if you're dealing with drugs, the robberies, the shootings, so much of it stems from drugs. and the whole thing is that everybody say non-violent drugs. it's very rare that you have somebody who's not connected to the crimes. >> a the love people feel like the war on drugs has not succeeded the way anyone wanted it to. is there another way to get at it? >> i think we have to be harsher. these people found loopholes, they're coming in and out of the jail system. there's no real worry to them. they're living in some areas that are not the nicest areas. they're not losing much by getting put into rikers island by being fed and clothed. they don't worry about it. >> it's harsher sentencing, some of the min pulls, you have small

>> this is that false sense of confidence. it's warm out, i don't need to worry about the flu. and the flu virus, yes, it's not quite as hearty during warmer temperatures. but because people are out and about, they are sick, they are out, they are infecting other people. and we are still early in the flu season. it can go as late as may. get your flu shot as the best form of prevention and practice good hand hygiene when out in public. >> yeah, use the disinfectant stuff. >> yeah. >> some of us say, we are going to eat more, the end of the year, i'm going to make a resolution. weight gain during the holidays is usually lost during the summer months, is that true? >> that is false. the problem is, people don't usually lose it. over the years that can accumulate. so you really want to keep it in moderation, i know it's hard, but stick to your exercise routine.

if you are going to the dinner, have a little something in your stomach so you don't go overboard when you get there. >> what about new year's eve, alcohol and we hear with hangovers, alcohol is not created equal. there are different hangovers, more of this, less of that. >> there is some truth to this. now that being said, any alcohol, if you have way too much of it, you will have a hangover. but certain ones are worse than others. the lighter colors, like vodka and gin, have less chemicals, fermentation by-products that can add to the hangovers. bourbon, whiskey, tequila, not great. the stuff you mix it, the carbonation, the bubbles. the carbonated mixers make you absorb alcohol more quickly. and have it on ice, the rocks, the ice tends to melt and it lu loses the alcohol. >> i'm no doctor, but i feel like hair of the dog technique is the best cure.

debris. a lot of families were at home celebrating christmas with wrapping paper still on the floor when a series of tornadoes hit the dallas metro area. a couple of the 11 tornadoes are seen in this picture. that's a preliminary count from the national weather service that could go up. folks there said twisters came out of nowhere. >> i looked out my window and saw the funnel around my house and then i just dove into the hallway. >> it sounded like a freight train coming through. just shocking, just heard everything just shaking, rattling and rolling. >> me and my family, we all got up under the stairwell and everything and trying to protect ourself. >> one official describes the scene as a war zone. cars that didn't get flipped over were pelted with debris. and homes that were not demolished had roofs torn off and windows broken. the damage stretched over 40 miles. at least eight people were killed in the storm. five of them were in their cars at this intersection when one of the tornadoes made a direct hit.

her words against her from that standpoint. she's got to be careful and fair. we all have to fight fairly and we have to fight for the good of the country, for the good of the people, for the good of everybody. but we have to fight fairly. and she's playing the woman's card. it's like, give me a break. i have had so many women come up to me, saying, you have to keep her out. she's just terrible. she's playing the woman's card left and right. and women are more upset about it than anybody else, including most men. >> you're looking ahead to the general election then. you're so far ahead in the gop nomination battle, you're ready to take hillary clinton head-on? >> no, i don't feel like i'm so far ahead. i could be in a baseball game and be ten runs up in the ninth inning and never feel so far up. i'm against very capable people and there were a lot and there still are a lot. i guess a number have dropped out. we were at 17 when this whole beautiful journey started. and it's simply been interesting

for me because i have never done it before. i'm self-funding my campaign as you know, ed, and it's, you know, it's been very interesting to me to see. i'm dealing against a lot of vir capable people, so i never consider it to be over. as yogi says, it's not over until it's over, right? >> mr. trump, you mentioned the second tweet, which we have for the viewers to read, you tweeted on saturday, hillary clinton announced she's letting her husband out to campaign but he's demonstrated a pension for sexism, so inappropriate. and a lot of conventional wisdom says bill clinton was popular against some. do you see a vulnerability there that many don't snow. >> the pension for sexism was exactly her words and i just turned them and thought it was fine. yeah, i think that bill clinton was, you know, turned out to be a liability against obama when they ran against each other in '08. but he was absolutely, you know,

you look at the whole campaign, it was a mess. and he said things that were very, very problematic and troublesome. so, you know, certainly bill clinton is not going to be the end-all in the campaign. he'll come under attack, not just from me, but come under attack from many other people, including -- bernie sanders, i watched him the other day during the debate, he practically rolled over. i've never seen a guy like this give up the e-mails. in the last half of the debate, he was praising hillary clinton. i don't know how you win like that but maybe he has a different way of campaigning. and i don't think it's going to be bernie sanders. personally, i would rather run against hillary. i actually would rather run against hillary than bernie sanders. i'm more prepared to run against hillary. i don't think bernie is going to win. i think he passed it up when he gave a pass on her e-mails. she's under the federal investigation.

i have a feeling that the investigation will not go anywhere because the democrats won't let it. >> i already know what the reaction is going to be, i think, the group called americans voice, an immigrant group, they are unhappy with the report that the department of homeland security is going on raids, basically deporting families who surge across the border. they say, in part, it's essentially due to you, they are blaming this on you or bringing you into the mix. you have doubled down, not surprisingly, and you say, yeah, this is part me. elaborate a little bit on this. >> well, we either have a country or we don't. and you have people, many, many millions of people, not only pouring into the country but people here. and a lot of bad things are happening and you've been seeing it with the crime and you have been seeing it with other. but we also, we don't talk about it economically, it's very bad. because they are taking jobs of americans. and we have to do something about it. but either we have a border, and i'm the one that said we have to have a border, we have to have a wall. it's got to be a great wall.

it's got to really stop people and stop drugs and stop all this other stuff that's coming in. if you look at what is going on with the drugs problem with the drugs poring through the southern border, new hampshire is plagued with heroin. it's a disaster what is going on. it's one of their big problems. every time i go to new hampshire, what they really want to talk about first on the list is the tremendous heroin problem they have. and, you know, we're going to have a wall and we'll have a border and we'll have a country again. very important. >> imfwramigration is very anim on the debates. the next one is on fox news, january 14, very early in the new year. you have been critical of rand paul at the bottom. the fbi has put out criteria and rand paul says he will not take part in a second tier debate. does the field need to be winnowed at this point. does fox and other networks have to whittle this down to a handful of candidates instead of

double dates, if you will. and if so, what do you think is the field, you and who else? >> i do think it will be whittled down. i agree with rand paul, i wouldn't want to do that. he's a united states senator and they call it all different names. they call it the child's page or children's page. lots of demeaning names. now, i guess some names come out of it but so far not much has come out of it. and it is very demeaning for a united states senator to be on a secondary stage when he was a front-runner at the beginning. i remember when i first entered the race, rand paul was close to leading the race. and now he's far from that. so i would say he's 100% right in not partaking. >> you think you need to winnow it. so what should the field? >> ideally it should be four or five. i don't want to name the candidates because that's inappropriate, but it should be down to four or five candidates and we should be able to speak for longer periods.

it was interesting in the last debate, they said, okay, you have 30 seconds to talk about the economy, right? well, you have 30 seconds to talk about illegal immigration, mr. trump. i said, wow, that's not much time. it would be better to -- i do like the shorter soundbytes, but it would be better if we could have a longer period of time to discuss these very important issues for our country. >> and where do you think you are in iowa right now? because ted cruz believes he's on a surge and that he might capture iowa and that would put more pressure on you to win new hampshire, where you'll be campaigning the next couple of days. >> right, i'm up in new hampshire where we are doing great. a poll just came out in iowa where i'm two points up if you saw yesterday. i think i'm doing well in iowa. i think we have a lot of people voting and caucusing that never did it before. and i think we've got a lot of -- all i know is every time i make a speech, we have crowds that are many, many, many times bigger than anybody else. i've been hearing the commentators, including your

network, where the question is, will the people come out and actually vote? i think they will but you don't know. look, i have a very good bond and relationship to the people of iowa. i've done great with the tea party. i've done really great with the evangelicals. you see the numbers. and ted and i are pretty close in terms of the polling, but i think we have a lot of people to go out. i hope to win iowa. it would be easy to say, oh, well, if i come in second or third that would be wonderful, but i don't want to say that. i would like to win iowa and then would like to win new hampshire with a very substantial lead. then in south carolina, we have likewise a very, very substantial lead. and i think we're going to do great in with the stc, but we'll see what happens. i can only say for sure, it's going to be interesting. >> it already has been. we want to ask you to stick around. i think you have agreed to do that. if you wouldn't mind, stay with us through the commercial break. we want to know what your new year's resolution is.

welcome back. we're back on the phone joined again by republican front-runner donald trump. before we get his new year's resolution, we're waiting to hear -- we have a couple quick additional follow-up questions. this week a knowing conservative trey goudy is heading to iowa with marco rubio. some people are surprised by that and whether or not an endorsement will come out with trey gowdy with senator rubio in

iowa. all of you are fighting hard for iowa. what is your reaction to gowdy going to iowa with marco rubio? >> well, i hope, i just read about that and hope he does a better job than he did frankly in the benghazi hearings because they were a total disaster. i have been seeing on twitter many people extremely angry about the whole thing because marco has been strong for amnesty and very weak at the border. and a lot of people are upset with trey gowdy for doing that. he said it's not an endorsement, but if he's going to be traveling around with him, he might as well say it's an endorsement. everybody was looking forward to something really productive and he didn't win with the hearings. it was a total not good for republicans and for the country. i mean, beyond republicans, it was very bad for the country. so i hope he does a lot better for marco than he did for the benghazi hearings because they were not good. that was not a pretty picture. >> what do you say to your

critics this week who were upset, back to the hillary clinton matter, that you used a vulgar term to describe what happened in her 2008 campaign and are blaming her for her husband's mistakes. why not let her run on her own? >> first of all, the term that i used was not about the term. it means to be beaten badly, schloged, she was schlonged by the president. that's what happened to her with obama. it's not a vulgar term, it means beaten badly. look it up. it means beaten very badly. that was a race that she was expected to win. she was going to be crowned, it was going to be automatic and obama came along. this time it could be bernie sanders. same thing came out, bill clinton came out, went wild for her. he was accused of being a racist by president obama. i'll never forget the look on his face, but he was accused of being a racist by president obama, which he's not, by the way. but i thought it was a very similar pattern.

now, i don't see bernie sanders as being obama, but you never know what is going to happen, whether it's the identical pattern. but the term i used was not a -- it's a term used around new york and used around a lot of places. >> i've never heard of it. so you enlightened me on the term schlonged, and i appreciate that. but i really would love to know what your new year's resolution is, if you have one, and i know you do. >> this is for pete. because pete's been very strong on the veterans. and i've watched him and he's really terrific on the subject, really understands the subject. i would like to help -- we always start with our family, and the bigger picture makes america great again, but to be more specific, we have to help the veterans. the veterans are being treated horribly. you saw the disaster yesterday in phoenix where it all sort of came to light where how bad it is. and if you remember a year ago, it all started really coming out how bad the veterans administration is. it started with phoenix where

a fox news alert, the death toll from the texas tornadoes now up to 11. garland police confirming a short time ago that eight people have died in that city alone. up from the original total of five. 600 buildings in all, 600, have been damaged. >> so sad. even more storms are expected to hit texas today. and all of this nasty weather comes ahead of a busy travel day as many americans travel home after christmas. >> it is such a busy time. janice dean is tracking all the latest on this deadly system. we still have today, monday and tuesday to get through. and the worst of the weather started wednesday. so almost a week's worth of severe storms. now, the threat for tornadoes diminishes over the next 24 hours. but behind this system, we've got inches, feet of snow. and the potential for flash flooding. that's something we have not really touched upon. four to six inches.

and over a dozen states under flash flood watches and/or warnings. look at the rainfall, four to six easily. some isolated amounts of 8 to 12 inches of rainfall. and the ground is already saturated. so flash flooding and rivers are going to continue to rise. then behind it we have got the cold air. the snow and the freezing rain and sleet. we actually have an ice storm warning still in effect for parts of oklahoma. the most dangerous weather you can travel in is ice. so people are urged to stay off the roadways. then it will continue really across the upper midwest and the great lakes into the northeast. we could receive 6 to 12, even 18 inches of snow. and blizzard conditions continue for the southwest into texas and oklahoma. so people are urged to be safe. >> so the next couple of days will be very dicy. >> of course, make sure you are contacting whoever you are traveling to and make sure that you are on top of the airlines. >> don't mess with ice. >> no, no. >> it will sneak up on you every

lost their dog. we're going to ask about the name. just in time for christmas an animal shelter nearly 200 miles away in michigan found him. to talk about this little christmas miracle are darren and their long lost dog rexon. what is that name about? >> his name was originally rex. however, the very first day i got him, he did something, and i went to kind of yell at him and it came out and just stuck. >> he's a little miracle, he is. a few years ago, three years ago, he's hang iing out in the house with doggie doors. you're looking at it. he makes his way over and that's the last time he was seen. tell us what happened? did you go out, go crazy? >> he was actually at a relative's house and he was out playing with their dog learning to go in and out the doggie door as he had done before. he went out one day and maybe

five or ten minutes later my wroer in law went out to look for him, for both of the puppies, and they were both nowhere to be found in the neighborhood or anything like that. we searched everywhere, even the dog shelters, thinking maybe they had been picked up and everything. and to no avail. >> darren, how long did you search for rexxn? >> we were at my brother's and they put out fliers, they put out -- for weeks. it had to be at least two months. it just became a little strenuous on everybody. we just did a lot. we tried to do as much as we could and it got to the point we hoped for the best. we were also expecting at the time my wife was basically nine months pregnant at the time. >> you had a lot to deal with. let's be honest, i hate to sound horrific this time of year but, i mean, i would have expected

the dog would probably have been hit by a car at this point, god knows what, he's gone. okay. let's fast forward three years later right around christmastime, what happens? >> actually, december 14, i was at work and i got an e-mail just saying that, hey, we found your dog, call this number. at first i read it and i was like, what? i kind of like hesitantly called the number. i think you found my dog. and the lady was like, okay, come and get him. i was like, well, i haven't seen him in three years and i live in columbus, ohio, and it kind of went from there. i was in tears boohooing because it seemed so unreal that we found him. and they went through the questions to verify it was the same, correct dog. >> he had a chip in him, right? >> yeah, he had a microchip, an akc microchip, that he was able

others, to get on top of this. all this nasty weather comes ahead of what will be obviously a very busy couple of days. airports, we're dealing with southern storms in particular particular that were delaying flights. but, janice dean, all of this is put into perspective when you have the loss of life we're seeing in texas right now. airport delays, important but not nearly as important as what we're seeing play out. >> this is the first light that we're seeing of these damaging storms across texas in and around the garland area, dallas, texas, the aerial footage is incredible and i've been doing this a long time but to continue to see the damage that we see from these storms, again, this is first light in rowlett, texas. it was dark and i saw some pictures of tremendous, huge tornadoes in the area. and the darkness was around and now the light comes up and we

see the damage and the national weather service is on scene and they're going to assess the damage. it looks like some of these homes were completely leveled. so they'll do an assessment and see how many tornadoes went through this area. several tornado warnings last night in and around this area including the dallas area and they continue to move to the north and east with winds in excess of 115 to 120 miles per hour but the destruction is tremendous. we've had loss of life and this is the situation that we've seen really for the last couple of days. we've had these december storms roll through and a lot of people say, well, it's wintertime. why are we seeing destructive tornadoes like this? it does happen in this region especially the fact that we've had record setting warm temperatures across the east coast. that combined with the polar cold that went through gave us these destructive, long lasting large wedge tornadoes that moved through this area and, i mean,

your heart goes out to these people, you know, you can't -- loss of life is awful and you can buy new things but to lose your loved ones which is what happened last night, a lot of people were on the roadways, people trying to get home for the holidays, get home from the holidays, and this is what is left of this poor neighborhood. it's heartbreaking. >> on some of the aerials there's severe flooding as well so you have the double whammy of the tornado and the destruction and then water from rain and some of the other aerials, not that very section, where there appeared to be severe flooding we've seen in other parts of the country that also obviously can be very dangerous. >> it's heartbreaking around this time of year. people are seeing each other and families are together and my heart breaks for these people. i've been doing this a long time but when i see destruction like this it is eye opening and it tells the story.

>> when you see this visual here on television, it's pretty shocking when you actually are there and you see it. as a correspondent i've covered it, you've covered it. you can't even describe it. it is just absolutely breathtaking -- breathtakingly horrible. >> and, janice, you see looking at these fphotos some homes completely obliterated, others totally intact. >> and that's what happens sometimes with these tornadoes. there's no rhyme or reason to them. you know, the best we can do as forecasters is tell you the general direction where they're going and to issue tornado watches and warnings. they were under a warning last night. the sirens were going off, and that's why we tell you to go to the lowest portion of your home, interior section closet or bathroom and, you know, unfortunately a lot of these tornadoes were rain wrapped and at night, so you didn't see them coming. now the one thing that i do take solace in is that when destruction happens like this, communities come together and

attack against italy. we hope to block others. firefighters back here at home finally gaining control of that 1,200 acre wildfire that exploded near a coastal california highway. it's being called the solimar fire north of los angeles. 60% contained near ventura county -- ventura, the city of -- nearly 600 firefighters are working to put out those flames. highway 101 and the pch, pacific coast highway, had to be shut down at different intervals but they have since reopened. those are major arteries. crews say it will be another three days before the fire is fully contained. and listen to this one. this is shocking. it's a new report and it links peyton manning, the beloved quarterback, along with other athletes to performance enhancing drugs. in an al jazeera documentary, which kind of brings some questions there, a pharmacist then employed at the anti-aging institute in indiana told an undercover reporter that manning was allegedly given human growth

because of all the things that she's talking to me about. she's mentioning texas. i turned her exact words against her. she has to be careful. it has to be fair and we all have to fight fairly. she's playing the woman's card and it's like, give me a break. certainly bill clinton is not going to be the end all in the campaign, and he'll come under attack not just from me. he'll be coming under attack from many other people. >> you can envision this becoming a pitched battle of heavy artillery eventually if it's the trumps against the clintons. you asked him whether the focus was a focus away from the gop field and toward the general election. >> he said, wait a second, i'm not looking beyond the gop nomination. he's being cautious. though he's far ahead in the polls, cnn has him up 39% to 18% over ted cruz, his closest rival nationally. a big gap there. he said, whoa, whoa, i'm not looking ahead to the general. he sounds like he's looking ahead to the general.

hillary clinton also took him on, to be fair, and said that he was being sexist in some of his comments. i was intrigued fox business network has the next republican debate. the world will be watching that one as this field perhaps winnows. donald trump just told us he wants to see this field shrunk. he wants to see less candidates on the stage as we get closer to voting. listen to this. >> i agree with rand paul. i wouldn't want to do that either. he's a united states senator and they call it all different names -- they call it the child's stage and the children's stage. ideally it should be down to four or five candidates. i don't want to name the candidates because i think that would be inappropriate but it should be down to four or five candidates and we should be able to speak for longer periods. >> it will be interesting to see how -- i have to believe natural attrition will lead to the stage getting smaller. >> we were expecting that a long time ago, they will run out of money but in the age of twitter and social media, some of the candidates can just keep

tweeting and keep going to their hard core supporters and stick around long enough to survive. a few have gotten out whether it's rick perry or bobby jindal. this field is pretty large and you can hear from the front-runner. >> and he did take on -- took fire on one of the candidates. we asked him about senator marco rubio, that trey gowdy is heading to iowa with him, not to endorse yet, but it looks like an endorsement. we asked what do you think of trey gowdy going to iowa with senator rubio? >> his hearings were a disaster. everyone was looking forward to something that would be really productive and he didn't win with those hearings. it was a total not good for republicans and for the country. i mean, beyond republicans, it was very bad for the country. i hope he does a lot better for marco than he did for the benghazi hearings because they were not good. that was not a pretty picture. >> well then. >> that's the one part of the interview he agreed with hillary clinton who thought the benghazi hearings were a disaster as well.

here. >> dan, you are on the ground in rowlett and we want you to be safe as well but when you talk about the weather there, the troubling weather, what are they saying on the ground locally about the potential for more tornadoes? has that been ruled out or is there still concern? >> as of last check that had moved more to the east. it's cold here in the 50s. we could still have a thunderstorm but not very likely for a tornado. off to the southeast of the area where it's still warm, that potential still exists. so we're always very aware of that. it's always safety first. and it's why we want people if they're not sure if they're in an area they don't feel comfortable in to get to one of the red cross shelters to get you inside, warm and fit. >> dan, americans across this country are waking up to these incredibly powerful images this morning, devastation. we know that oftentimes the reaction is always for americans to be galvanized, to want to do something about it. for folks in texas or across the
